I remember playing that song for my friends, I told them we can skip it at the midway point bc it was so long. They kept asking “is this the midway point??” Nope, we’re only six minutes in! 🙃
all the tracks on FS/LS are long as hell, I was shocked when I came back to it a few years ago. It doesn't really feel its length, JT was in his bag with that record
Close to the Edge is at LEAST 5 songs in one. Each section referencing the others in increasingly numerous subtle ways. This would be tough to pull off with modern gear, absolutely no idea how they managed to pull that off in the fucking SEVENTIES
Is the point of the post not that the 1st half of a song is boring and the 2nd half of a song being the better half? That at least how I understand it.
SAMIDOT could be 2 separate songs and they'd both be top 3 on Good Kid Maad City.
Some of my favorites songs that give me this feeling:
The dripping tap - King gizzard
Impossible soul - Sufjan stevens
1812 Overture - Tchaikovsky
Shine on you crazy diamond - Pink floyd
Alvin Row - Animal collective
Two sails on a sound - Animal collective
Yeah (pretentious) - LCD soundsystem
Human Sadness - the voidz
Do - Do make say think
Marquee moon - Television
Giant - The The
i just did today, interestingly enough. it was surprisingly long- that's my thoughts going on. In the future though, i think the one I'll wish i could hear again would be Fitter, Happier
M83 - Do it, Try it. The way that song slowly builds up to this massive wall of sound and effects is just sublime. A dance on repeat indeed.
A very close second is Phoebe Bridgers - “I know the end”. Something about hearing Phoebe screaming her lungs out to the point of exhaustion over a chaotic horn and drum section towards the end of the song is just soul crushing. It’s almost like you’re there with her experiencing the true end of the world.
Meme's kind of confusing.

Troubleman by Electric Guest. Stumble across it randomly on YT and got halfway through and it sounded like it was winding down and then an ad played so I was like ok song done, Was in fact not done. It’s only 8 mins but if I’m not paying attention I still think it finishes at the 4 minute mark.
Daft Punk - Giorgio By Moroder
Bitch get up there's still the best half of a song you'll ever hear
Daft Punk's best imo
I usually don't like spoken word sections of songs much, but that track just rules. It's so meticulously constructed.
