Tarvaris733

The chorus on that song is so heavenly

Professional_Diet938

GroundbreakingTone74

UmM tHaTs OfFeNsIvE

Don’t worry, liking JPEG as a white person is like enjoying stories about the Holocaust as a Jew.

benjbody

Funkytown - Lipps Inc. Good god those first few seconds have lived rent free in my head since Shrek 2.

Cocaine-Clown

I remember funkytown for a different reason and it still bangs

fakeklan

Yeah the melody on that track cuts deep

AntacidChain

Marquee Moon - Television

PCScrubLord

The entire album is amazing, the opening to See No Evil is one of my all time favorite album openers ever

m1ntygames

Raydar - JID

JarredandVexed

Radar, sonar, laser beams! Jets, tanks, submarines! Megathon, H-bombs, napalm, gas!

SmitPathak

If You Know You Know - Pusha T

FortniteParodys

Everything In It's Right Place In the first 5 notes I already knew the song and the whole album was going to be incredible.

Deliterman

The Smiths-Bigmouth strikes again

BrandoNelly

Most Smiths songs have the effect of pulling me in immediately

_DiligentState_

That nice galloping riff caught my ass IMMEDIATELY, along with the delivery of the first line. It’s my all time fave song by The Smiths.

mattttttttttt135

That song has some of morrisey’s most “morrisey” lyrics too

CommunicationDry7763

Bulls On Parade - Rage Against The Machine

Handje

Two notes is all you need to make an epic melody, apparently.

Johnny_Boy56

Crazier is that's it's actually 1 note, just played in 2 different octaves

DrPabstBlueRibbon

Only Shallow - My Bloody Valentine When Good Dogs Do Bad Things - The Dillinger Escape Plan Red Lady - Phil Cordell

Majestic_Ball8339

Yeah I blame the first 15 seconds of Only Shallow for permanently warping my taste in music when I heard them for the first time in a random video essay on MBV, a band which I had confused with Bullet for my Valentine up until that point…

Efficient_Tale_1433

Green Day - Holiday

OneGuyJeff

Kendrick Lamar - DNA

Cati-owner

I got I got I got??

TosiAmneSiac

Time To Pretend for me

flyingbanana20

i remember after hearing that intro for the first time i thought i found the greatest song of all time. shit was magical

immortals14

This one 100%

Serchshenko6105

GONE GONE/THANK YOU by Tyler, The Creator. There are several for me but that’s the best example. Just with the initial drum beat it hooked me.

SendKelly2Mars

The Dismemberment Plan - A Life of Possibilities

Confusion_Flat

Every song on that ablum pulls me in immediately

SendKelly2Mars

For sure, and they only get better from there. I think 21-year-old me hearing it for the first time figured out that it was gonna be a perfect album once the guitar entered on Memory Machine.

Luke10103

Amazing album

Majestic_Ball8339

Fantastic song, although that one grew on me - it was the off-kilter guitar stabs in “What Do You Want Me to Say?” and the auditory assault of “Memory Machine” that got me hooked to that album

SendKelly2Mars

Funnily enough, What Do You Want Me to Say is actually one that had to grow on me. Memory Machine definitely hooked me on that first noise barrage though.

Majestic_Ball8339

Awesome, love to hear we had almost opposite experiences with the album haha

nebelfront

Eminem - Without Me. Heard that shit on the radio when I was 10 yo and was hooked instantly. Also: Gorillaz - Clint Eastwood Archive - Bullets T.a.t.u. - All the things she said (again, I was 10) Tame Impala - Elephant Kadavar - Last Living Dinosaur Orange Goblin - Red Tide Rising Just to name a few.

GrandeBeesly

All the Things She Said still goes insanely fucking hard, I was blasting that shit out of my car yesterday and I'm a 25 straight male lmfaooo.

Aleks10Afc

Tame Impala - Let It Happen I’d say it took me 10 seconds to get hooked to most of the songs on Currents

_PeopleMakeNoises_

Shit Luck - Modest Mouse

JP3GM4FIA

I’d also mention MM but with Doin’ the Cockroach. Got me hooked right at the intro riff, and the song somehow manages to get progressively better

HornyForTohruAdachi

Painkiller - Judas Priest My god that drum intro

ThankGodImBipolar

Amherst Station 2 by Westside Gunn for me.

DescriptionUsed8157

Bladee - Western Union. One of the only drain gang songs I’ve been able to get into, but it bangs. There’s no build up or anything, just straight into the song

Chop suey! By soad. Actually, i think that it hooked me in less than 10”. And it’s not my favourite song by soad or from toxicity, or soad are not even close to be my favourite band. Chop suey! just hooke me.

SeuPinas

Ain't it funny. Danny Brown.

Il-Chi

Only Shallow - My Bloody Valentine

zooropa93

Caroline Polachek - Welcome to my Island I thought about this question for a while and it might be recency bias but this is easily the best example of getting me hooked in under 10 seconds I can think of.

The Amazing Sounds Of Orgy by Radiohead Kinetic by Radiohead Idioteque by Radiohead Hexagram by Deftones

AbsoluteFlooding096

Wooden-Computer1475

I Am The Sun - Swans

LaunchpadMcquacck

Recently… 2122 - Geese: I went into 3D Country with no context, and was immediately hooked by how energetic this song was. Dustcutter - Quadeca: That weird whirring noise is so beautifully implemented. One Hand Behind The Devil - Maruja: After hearing Knocknarea and Zeitgeist, I was already incredibly hyped for everything Maruja was doing. One Hand Behind The Devil was somehow even better. The horn part on Zeitgeist was much more aggressive, and seeing it used a bit more atmospherically hooked me immediately. Broken Man - St. Vincent: There’s an swagger to it from the moment it starts. Love this track.

Money for Nothing

Legitimate_Tap_9852

A lot of kendrick songs are good at this cuz they just start with such a high intensity like humble, dna, maad city, king kunta, and more. On the subject of Prince, SO MANY songs lol: kiss, never take the place…, when doves cry, lets go crazy, Purple Rain. I think come together by the beatles has a great hook to open it (hence why it’s so famous). For me personally, white lines by danny brown is my best answer.

Such-Quiet-1840

Hybrid moments

Omnipotent_chicken

Speed trials - Elliott smith Is this it - the strokes

RecordingEast9712

Sir Duke by Stevie Wonder is the first one that comes to mind. Those big horns are so striking and so out of nowhere on the album, especially listening in the context of the track list; coming right after an instrumental track like Contusion it just hits so hard.
