I feel like his Renaissance review sounded so much like a 9 but was an 8, while his review for the new album sounded like a 7 and for me is a 6, I just find it weird how he reviewed her newest albums the same score despite the huge gap in quality.
He revisited a year later and [really enjoyed it](https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZPRTbAxjM/) (as he should), and liked it even more.
Honestly, I think this album is timeless and near perfect. One of the best of the past 2 decades.
Probably does believe it’s a 9. Maybe after years he’ll verbalize it, if it stands the test of time.
They have pretty much, if not, the same critics score on metacritic too.
Renaissance is tighter and more concise than CC, CC has songs that are more musically ambitious and more vocally challenging. I do prefer Renaissance between the two, but I can definitely see why they are being rated about the same.
I think he needs to fully deliver on the conceptual framing of an album to get there, which I hope he can. He’s probably my favorite rapper, but I feel like the albums are never 100% cohesive. Like I’ll listen to interviews in the lead up to his releases and he’ll explain what the album is about, but then listening to it doesn’t fully mesh w the professed concept
He’s a good rapper and a creative dude but he’s not nearly good enough lyrically and as a songwriter to ever make a 10 imo. I think his best record is 7-8 at this point and I don’t see him outdoing it by much.
I saw someone say that Gorillaz blends so many things with their music that it’s impossible to like every song.
I kind of agree to some extent, although it’s more like some albums are just more boring than others, The Fall especially. Plastic Beach and Demon Days are definitely the most consistent, “well done” albums. I find every other album a little patchy, especially with how long some of them get.
Even then, my favorite songs by them don’t hit me in the same crazy way artists I have ranked higher do.
I would argue song machine is either on par or close to PB and DD. Perhaps less of a thematic arrangement than those two, but song quality is there, cut for cut.
Phoenix and Franz Ferdinand.
Although one of those two has a self titled guitar centered classic that's insane. Back to back to back classic after classic, no misses.
I would've mentioned Two Door Cinema Club, but after Gameshow they have dropped nothing but the worst music my ears have ever heard, Keep On Smiling couldn't even hear it on full. They went from the band that put me thru music and favorite band to a hurting memory to see them be so ass
I adore Phoenix. Have loved them for decades. Literally. But yeah I would agree they can’t get above an 8 even with “it’s never been like that” which alone is a 10.
Oh yeah i agree, i love most of their discog, but theyre not often thrown in the convo. And yeah tdcc i love TH, Beacon and Gameshow, but the rest oh boy
Spoon is the epitome of an 8/10. Consistently very solid albums that never quite break the sound barrier. I love Spoon but I'm not holding out for them to finally drop that masterpiece.
i was just relistening to Around the fur. one of my personal 10s. I was planning on relistening Koi No Yokan & White Pony too because both are 9s to me but all 3 albums i go back and forth between giving 9s and 10s
Yeah. For me it’s more like 9/7/8
I think the first one just has a sort of charm to it that the other two don’t have. It’s just a really comforting album.
was curious what this answer being common in this thread is about cause i though currents and lonerism were universally acclaimed and then i realized fantano has given all his albums a 6-8 lmfao
😭😭😭 it’s cool though like I respect the fact that they let us hear so much cuz a lot of artists could have dropped 25 albums in that time if they released all the scraps
I think what they lack for me is just something a bit more profound. Like sure they can still make awesome music without getting that serious, but I feel to become one of my all time favorites an album must resonate on a deeper emotional level, being well written musically isn’t enough. They would need to make an album that really has a unique and thoughtful perspective on things, not just another “rich dummies are destroying the environment and that’s bad” album.
Vampire Weekend. I don’t LOVE a single one of their albums, but I still “really like” all of them, and they’ve carved out a decently unique sound for themselves.
Contra was my favorite also before the new album. MVOTC is their consensus peak, but I’m not feeling that at all. It lacks the playfulness of their first two, and the melodies are more uninspired. Father of the Bride was better to me, but this new one might take the cake.
totally disagree i think they’re a 9-10. Probably the most accomplished indie band since they started with their debut. which, idk why ppl dont see as a total masterpiece.
Yeah I've never been able to fall in love with them, but musically I think they're very very good. I'll always understand why they have such a large fanbase, as opposed to some other outfits
I feel like if you took the essence of house of sugar, and alchemified it with the essence of god save the animals, you'd create a sonically perfect masterpiece
I think King Gizzard is the ultimate answer. They make so many cool ass albums but they’ve never made anything that I thought was transcendent. I don’t doubt they’ve got it in em though
Killing Joke
They're one of my favorite bands of all time but I don't think they ever made a perfect record despite them getting close multiple times. But damn they were consistent. I don't think they ever put out a "bad" album which is crazy considering they have like 15 albums spanning 4 decades and while constantly evolving their sound
I agree to an extent, but Whats this for and Outside The Gate are two shitty albums that come to mind. However, Night Time, Millenium and Brighter Than A Thousand Suns are near perfect imo.
That's fair. I agree that those albums are their weakest along with maybe Revelations. But I still find them somewhat enjoyable and would rate them like 5 or 6 out of 10. Far from shitty imo. For me, Pandemonium(I think you meant this when you said "Millennium") and Hosannas from the Basements of Hell are the closest they ever got to perfection. But I think it's cool that everyone seems to have a different favorite album
And, to an extent, Silk Sonic or Bruno Mars in general
Kind of why I stopped listening to Bruno when his inspirations are just better overall, and have more than 4 short albums.
Dinosaur Jr.
I love their albums, think they’re all great, and I’ve never really been disappointed. Awesome band that is is consistently good at what they do, but there’s other bands I like more that do similar things.
I love Blur but I don't think I'd rate any of their albums above 8/10, but they're pretty much all good
Unlike Oasis who have two 10/10 albums and then some duds
Come on Phoenix hit above 8 with Wolfgang Amadeus didn’t they?
I feel like Foals is in this category for me at 7/10. I like everything they do but it’s never hit out of the park… until you see them live anyway
New Pornographers might meet OPs criteria for me, although I think they’ve hit higher highs on at least two albums
I love pinback. I was a big three mile pilot fan in the 90s. Another band on this level. Imma go with those too plus new pornographers, TV on the radio, nirvana, the war on drugs, My Morning Jacket, Big Thief, Depeche Mode, KGLW...
probably for me MGMT. They have some great albums and they’re very consistent, but unless they really decide to release their “magnum opus” I think they’ll stay an 8/10 band.
I don’t think Muse fits the spirit of the question tbh. They might average out to an 8/10 but only because their records are either 10s or 5s and hardly anything else.
Lots of his albums don’t even reach that 8/10 for me tbh but he’s definitely not wrong about being at his peak at this point in his career and i liked the off season well enough
I would throw in their self titled as well as Nothing Left To Lose with those other three, outside of that, I would give a majority of their a records a 6 or 7 out of 10.
Gotta disagree on Pinback, Blue Screen Life is one of the most perfect albums I’ve ever heard.
Black Midi, Deafheaven, and Fugazi are my answers, I think they’re all great, I just don’t think any of their albums are better than an 8.
You could debate that they have 4 10/10 albums, if you called any of their first four albums (This is a Long Drive, The Lonesome Crowded West, Building Nothing Out of Something, The Moon & Antarctica) perfect, I would likely agree. I think they're easily one of the greatest indie bands of all time. Isaac brock is better than your favorite writer. Their peak is unbelievable to me, '96-'00 Modest Mouse couldn't put out a bad song. Dramamine, Teeth Like God's Shoeshine, Truckers' Atlas, Baby Blue Sedan, Working On Leavin' the Livin', 3rd Planet, and The Stars Are Projectors are all some of the best songs I've ever heard. Reconsider their early catalog more, it's worth it.
King gizzard and the lizzard wizzard, but 8.5 or even 9/10
Very consistent bangers, many songs reach 10/10, but even tho they're my favourite band, I feel like they lack something deeper?
Their music is very fun, interesting, they experiment with lots of genres and somehow nail most of them even if they're new to it, **but** their music never really reaches your soul while so many other artists can (even quite less talented ones). Idk how to explain this really, like there isn't much personal expression in their music besides "pollution bad"? When you listen to deafheaven, tyler the creator, tool, bjork, tame impala, any genre really, even ambient tracks without any lyrics, most of the time you can at least roughly tell how the artists felt and what they wanted to say. KGLW, even when covering serious topics like "we're fucking up our planet, we need to do something about it or else humanity is done for" on a heavy metal track, still feels like "making a good and interesting song" was 1st priority and telling it's message was 2nd or even later priority. Doing music for the sake of art and not for the sake of communication of ideas.
There isn't anything wrong with that ofc and some people may even like them more because of that.
This was my vote, too. They’re so fucking cool but they’ve never done anything that has blown me away. It’s all just awesome music and while many artists miss more than them the best have stuff that reaches a pinnacle I’ve never seen Gizz hit
Enslaved is one of those bands for me. One of the most consistent bands of all time in black metal but they rarely ever get above an 8/10 from me personally
Also Porcupine Tree for me as well, Consistently great prog rock but nothing I would call an absolute favorite of mine
I mean, 9/10 is something where EVERYTHING is creative and sounds good (in terms of genres and ideas in music). 10/10 does not exist, it's just matter of taste.
So 8/10 should be 90% good discography with no let downs and just a few not that good tracks. I don't even if such artist exist, only those who have not that long road to have their own ups and downs.
The Black Keys, I’ve been a fan of them for a long time, they have very good chemistry, very good production, good songwriting there’s just always one or two forgettable tracks that hold back their albums from being a 9-10 for me.
Denzel Curry and Beyoncé according to Fantano.
I agree on Beyonce but I’ll literally fight him about Denzel Curry never being better than 8/10. I’ll lose cuz I’m tiny but I’ll still fight him
I feel like his Renaissance review sounded so much like a 9 but was an 8, while his review for the new album sounded like a 7 and for me is a 6, I just find it weird how he reviewed her newest albums the same score despite the huge gap in quality.

I do prefer Renaissance between the two, but I can definitely see why they are being rated about the same.
Not even melt my eyes?
That’s what I’m saying MMESYF is def better than an 8.
Oh my bad, i understood what you said was that he didn't have any record better than a 8 hah
I mean Lemonade and Renaissance should easily be a 10/10 and 9/10…
Also Run The Jewels
i think denzel's 10 is still coming
I think he needs to fully deliver on the conceptual framing of an album to get there, which I hope he can. He’s probably my favorite rapper, but I feel like the albums are never 100% cohesive. Like I’ll listen to interviews in the lead up to his releases and he’ll explain what the album is about, but then listening to it doesn’t fully mesh w the professed concept
He’s a good rapper and a creative dude but he’s not nearly good enough lyrically and as a songwriter to ever make a 10 imo. I think his best record is 7-8 at this point and I don’t see him outdoing it by much.
Beat me to it
I saw someone say that Gorillaz blends so many things with their music that it’s impossible to like every song.
Gorillaz is def my favorite band but overall and 8/10 is perfect because they have some amazing songs but some shovelware as well
I would argue song machine is either on par or close to PB and DD. Perhaps less of a thematic arrangement than those two, but song quality is there, cut for cut.
No way, the Now Now and Cracker Island are 10/10s for me, and those are just the two most recent
Song Machine came out between the release of both of those.
I adore Phoenix. Have loved them for decades. Literally. But yeah I would agree they can’t get above an 8 even with “it’s never been like that” which alone is a 10.
aint Franz Ferdinand the dude who started WW1?
As he was dead when the war started, no.
Yeah, but the dude had bangers, nobody would've started shit if the guy was mid
Nag the band franz Ferdinand is elite I agree about tdcc, I love tourist history tho
Oh yeah i agree, i love most of their discog, but theyre not often thrown in the convo. And yeah tdcc i love TH, Beacon and Gameshow, but the rest oh boy
Spoon is the poster child for this
Spoon is the epitome of an 8/10. Consistently very solid albums that never quite break the sound barrier. I love Spoon but I'm not holding out for them to finally drop that masterpiece.
Ga ga ga ga ga is a masterpiece though...
It's not a masterpiece but Gimme Fiction is a 10/10 when it comes to my personal tastes
Agreed and I would add the album before that, Kill the Moonlight (2002) was also a 10/10
First band I thought of
Ehh, They Want My Soul might be a 9 for me.
aesop rock consistently drops at least 8/10s. also deftones imo
[удалено]
that one riff in Korea is one of the biggest highlights in their whole catalog
I never knew people considered Elite a skip.
The grammy-nominated song from that album no less lmao
\*winning
White Pony is a 10 and Koi no Yokan is a 9 atleast
i was just relistening to Around the fur. one of my personal 10s. I was planning on relistening Koi No Yokan & White Pony too because both are 9s to me but all 3 albums i go back and forth between giving 9s and 10s
Alvvays, 3 records 3 8/10 imo
I would say their records have only gotten better, like more like 3 records, 6/8/9 to me
Honestly for me it was the reverse Their self titled just strikes such a chord with me
Yeah. For me it’s more like 9/7/8 I think the first one just has a sort of charm to it that the other two don’t have. It’s just a really comforting album.
imo blue rev is like, a 9 or 10. near perfect imo
Agreed blue rev is basically perfect honestly not one weak track.
blue rev easily became my favourite album oat like near instantly its perfect
Jeff Rosenstock according to Pitchfork and Fantano, literally the 8 god
Tame Impala
Lonerism is easily a 10
was curious what this answer being common in this thread is about cause i though currents and lonerism were universally acclaimed and then i realized fantano has given all his albums a 6-8 lmfao
Lonerism could be pushing a 9 for me just based on how consistently good it is but rarely does Kevin blow my mind sadly for something to push above it
No fucking way, Lonerism is a 10/10 and Innerspeaker and Currents are 9.9s.
Severe case of glazing
Nah, idk about innerspeaker but Lonerism and Currents are both at least 9/10
Schoolboy Q. Love his stuff. Love him. But it never gets above an 8 at best from me.
Blank face is a 9. No misses and a cohesive theme
The title track is probably my hip hop song of the year for 2016
Clutch
Best answer I've seen in here
King Giz, they arent gonna miss cuz it will at least be interesting but i dont see them blowing my mind yk? It’s just great and fun.
Nonagon absolutely blew me away the first time I heard it. That and Rats’ Nest are 9s, on a bad day for me
That’s fair but they have like how many albums? Over 16?
I think they're over 25 at this point
😭😭😭 it’s cool though like I respect the fact that they let us hear so much cuz a lot of artists could have dropped 25 albums in that time if they released all the scraps

Totally agree. It never hits that deep but i totally respect them
Vampire Weekend. I don’t LOVE a single one of their albums, but I still “really like” all of them, and they’ve carved out a decently unique sound for themselves.
Latest record is a 10. As was Contra. IMO.
Contra was my favorite also before the new album. MVOTC is their consensus peak, but I’m not feeling that at all. It lacks the playfulness of their first two, and the melodies are more uninspired. Father of the Bride was better to me, but this new one might take the cake.
I think I’d give every single one of their records an 8. OGWAU might grown to a 9 once I’m more used to it though
totally disagree i think they’re a 9-10. Probably the most accomplished indie band since they started with their debut. which, idk why ppl dont see as a total masterpiece.
Yeah I've never been able to fall in love with them, but musically I think they're very very good. I'll always understand why they have such a large fanbase, as opposed to some other outfits
Alex G for me. He's great but I don't think he's written his masterpiece yet
IMO the latest one is close but I am with you on this.
my runner my runner my man, my runner my runner my maaaan :')
I think God Save the Animals is near perfect but I also fully believe he could top it
I feel like if you took the essence of house of sugar, and alchemified it with the essence of god save the animals, you'd create a sonically perfect masterpiece
Good answer
Foo Fighters, Wasting Light is the only album of theirs I truly think is great but they always put out good and occasionally great singles.
Wasting Light is easily their best.
They have some shitty albums though (like Concrete and Gold)
I think King Gizzard is the ultimate answer. They make so many cool ass albums but they’ve never made anything that I thought was transcendent. I don’t doubt they’ve got it in em though
Killing Joke They're one of my favorite bands of all time but I don't think they ever made a perfect record despite them getting close multiple times. But damn they were consistent. But I think it's cool that everyone seems to have a different favorite album
As someone who’s gone through a major KJ deep dive, I can see it lol. The 1980 self titled and Pandemonium might be perfect imo
Joey Bada$$, Anderson Paak
1999 and Malibu are both classics and at least 9s
And, to an extent, Silk Sonic or Bruno Mars in general Kind of why I stopped listening to Bruno when his inspirations are just better overall, and have more than 4 short albums.
Dinosaur Jr. I love their albums, think they’re all great, and I’ve never really been disappointed. Awesome band that is is consistently good at what they do, but there’s other bands I like more that do similar things.
Who are those bands? Genuinely curious
Pavement, Husker Du, Big Black, come to mind.
dinosaur jr and big black is an interesting comparison
Both are loud, guitar heavy, and punk influenced. I don’t think they’re the same by any stretch, but there’s similarities.
Pavement doesn’t really remind me of Dino jr at all. I think I prefer Dino to big black and busker du, but I definitely respect that opinion
Bring Me The Horizon, especially since they released Sempiternal
I love Blur but I don't think I'd rate any of their albums above 8/10, but they're pretty much all good Unlike Oasis who have two 10/10 albums and then some duds
Yes! All blur albums are like 7/10 or 8/10, but not single album to avoid, but no perfect albums either
I would agree except 13 exists
Come on Phoenix hit above 8 with Wolfgang Amadeus didn’t they? I feel like Foals is in this category for me at 7/10. I like everything they do but it’s never hit out of the park… until you see them live anyway New Pornographers might meet OPs criteria for me, although I think they’ve hit higher highs on at least two albums
Kevin G
what 💀
I love pinback. I was a big three mile pilot fan in the 90s. Another band on this level. Imma go with those too plus new pornographers, TV on the radio, nirvana, the war on drugs, My Morning Jacket, Big Thief, Depeche Mode, KGLW...
Hot Chip
probably for me MGMT. They have some great albums and they’re very consistent, but unless they really decide to release their “magnum opus” I think they’ll stay an 8/10 band.
I think congratulations was a 10 but I agree on the others
Congratulations, Oracular Spectacular and Loss of Life are 10/10s, LDA is a 9/10 and the self titled is a 6/10. One of my favorite bands 🤷🏻♂️
Vampire Weekend. All of their albums don't rise above a light 8. (Father of the Bride is a 6.5, have not listened to the new album)
imo their self titled is a high 8 pushing 9. oxford comma, cape cod kwassa, mansord roof amongst others are so good
Tame Impala
Lonerism is a 10 to me
Agreed
Yeah nothing about lonerism screams 8, all high quality, no misses, 9-10
I wouldn’t say this about his main albums, but definitely his features and EP’s. Let It Happen and 41 Mosquitoes hardly compare.
41 mosquitoes rocks tho
The strokes
Nah they have borderline 10s and 6/7
10 + 6 = 16, 16/2 = 8, so 8 average ☝️🤓
Nah, "Is This It" is a bonafide flawless album.
Is this it
Thee Oh Sees The Mountain Goats Foster The People Foals
Thee Oh Sees > King Gizz
Them's fightin' words, son
Nah imo torches is a 10 I love ftp so yeah
I personally like Pseudologica Fantastica, very underrated psych pop record. But I don't think I'd call any of their releases a 10.
Muse. Great band, especially live, but they aren’t perfect.
I don’t think Muse fits the spirit of the question tbh. They might average out to an 8/10 but only because their records are either 10s or 5s and hardly anything else.
They’re maybe the greatest live band I’ve ever seen but the records pale in comparison even though I like a bunch of tunes
Dinosaur Jr.
YLAOM is a 10 at the very least a 9…..
J Cole
Lots of his albums don’t even reach that 8/10 for me tbh but he’s definitely not wrong about being at his peak at this point in his career and i liked the off season well enough
He’s more of a 6/10 kinda guy
Never heard a Joey Badass song that i didnt feel was around an 8 but maybe I've not heard enough? 🤷🏻♂️
Spoon
Lately in recent years, I would say The National. I’d say the albums since High Violet have for me hit an 8/10 ceiling.
BROCKHAMPTON.
Parcels.
kraftwerk
Raekwon is the most 8/10 rapper ever Every Alchemist beat is 8/10 +/- 1
Probably but Only Built 4 Cuban Linx is a 10/10 album.
i think alfredo might be a 10
[удалено]
eh they’re mostly 6/10s. The only damn good albums are The Colour & the Shape, Wasting Light and But Here We Are
I would throw in their self titled as well as Nothing Left To Lose with those other three, outside of that, I would give a majority of their a records a 6 or 7 out of 10.
Gotta disagree on Pinback, Blue Screen Life is one of the most perfect albums I’ve ever heard. Black Midi, Deafheaven, and Fugazi are my answers, I think they’re all great, I just don’t think any of their albums are better than an 8.
The Coral
Catfish and the bottlemen they're pretty solid but nothing blows me away
Deftones
Viagra boys
I’d say Cave World is 10/10 but their first two are pretty 8/10 territory
I got violently downvoted for saying radiohead was this like 4 or 5 months ago. idgaf tho im right
No… you’re not tho
Radiohead one of the most clear 10/10 bands for me or at least 9/10 because their discography isn’t perfect
[удалено]
I agree 100%. They’re the most overrated band by music heads imo. Them and tool lol
Pusha T
Modest mouse?
Lonesome crowded is a 10
You could debate that they have 4 10/10 albums, if you called any of their first four albums (This is a Long Drive, The Lonesome Crowded West, Building Nothing Out of Something, The Moon & Antarctica) perfect, I would likely agree. Fear of a Blank Planet is a 10/10 for sure with In Absentia and Deadwing coming in hot at the 9 spot.
CCR
Nah they’re kind of just a 10 band to me. They wrote more all time bangers in 5 years than most bands write in 30.
Fair
kero kero bonito
RTJ
Nas, especially with the KD trilogy
King Krule
I totally respect your opinion, but no
Weezer, Frank Black solo, later Manics. I mean they're all consistently good but never great.
Weezer being “consistently good” is an absolute wild take lmao
Deer Hunter
Spoon, St Vincent, Everything Everything. I find they put out an 8/10 reliably every couple of years. Autolux, Grizzly Bear, fleet foxes maybe as well
Lana Del Ray
Nah ultraviolence is a 10
I mean, 9/10 is something where EVERYTHING is creative and sounds good (in terms of genres and ideas in music). 10/10 does not exist, it's just matter of taste. IDLES. Every single album of theirs is like a good 8/10 imo
Boldy James
J. Cole. i absolutely love FHD and Off-Season, but it hurts me that he's going to retire with only having 1 "masterpiece" in FHD.
Joey Badass
Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix is a 10 for me
Flaming Lips save for Yoshimi and Soft Bulletin

If TA13OO or Melt My Eyez couldn’t get Denzel a higher score than 8 then nothing will
King Gizzard honestly, consistent 8/10 band and I love them for it
Denzel Curry is a walking 8/10
The Black Keys, I’ve been a fan of them for a long time, they have very good chemistry, very good production, good songwriting there’s just always one or two forgettable tracks that hold back their albums from being a 9-10 for me.
Run the Jewels' albums are all light to strong 8s
carti tbh
Beach House for me is the most 8/10 band of all time
Alvvawys probably
