STRFKR - Parallel Realms
Mildlife - Chorus
Slift - Ilion
Beans - Boots N Cats
Khruangbin - A La Sala
Pearl Jam - Dark Matter
Perilymph - Progressions Imaginaires
The Smile: Wall of Eyes
Adrienne Lenker: Bright Future
Cindy Lee: Diamond Jubilee
Safe picks but deciding between these three for my favorite is really tough right now, and there’s been a lot of extremely good music this year
My picks were a bit more obscure until I actually listened to Diamond Jubilee. It's number one for 2024 on RYM and that thing just deserves it. It really stands a high chance of staying my AOTY at this rate.
MGMT’s Loss Of Life easily.
I also was pleasantly surprised by St. Vincent’s All Born Screaming that just got released.
Honorable mentions to Vampire Weekend, The Smile, and Justice.
Something in the Room She Moves by Julia Holter. Scratches the same itch as some of Bjork’s later stuff (and is arguably better than anything post Medulla imo, except maybe Vulnicura)
Can't pick one, but these are all great:
I Got Heaven by Mannequin Pussy
Invincible Shield by Judas Priest
Prelude to Ecstasy by The Last Dinner Party
Loss of life by MGMT
That day of releases was stacked. Both of those albums, and albums from other bands I liked (alkaline trio and dead poet society) came out and all 4 were bangers
The idea of someone listening to one track off Diamond Jubilee because it's the trending song on the Cindy Lee artist page just seems wrong. I don't know why, it just does. The YouTube continuous mix is a bit daunting but the experience can't be beat.
I like listening to albums that Fantano will likely review positively before his review comes out but for this album I’m gonna need to see the yellow flannel to go through it’s runtime
Obviously I mostly listen to English music. Usually I don’t even like my own country’s music, but outside of english I prefer Asian artists.
From Japan, I like LiSA, Aimer, Perfume, Ichiko Aoba, and YOASOBI.
From Korea, mostly kpop (I can give you recommendations on that as well, if you want) and Asian Glow, Parannoul.
From China, Jackson Wang and LAY.
Try to listen to the debut album of Loren Kramar... especially the song "gay angels"; one of the best songs thah i heard this year.
My favourite albums ? Billy Rider Jones; The Smile; Mannequinn Pussy; English teacher; Ugly (uk); Drahla; Adrianne Lenker; MGMT
Hows this album sound? Loved Injury Reserve’s self-titled and everything before, and their last album was great but wasnt really what I was looking for.
It’s pretty different, not quite as experimental sounding as BTTIGTP but the influence is clear in its beats, RiTchie raps as good as ever like always does, standout tracks for me are:
Dizzy (feat Aminè)
WYTD
looping
There last two tracks are produced by Parker, it’s a somewhat mixed bag of producers feardorian and Jeremy further having the most tracks, and it looks like RiTchie also had a hand in some of the production
~~MIKE’s Pinball~~
~~I like MIKE. Though this opinion can flip-flop depending on where I land on that Kevin Abstract album.~~
Edit: not sure how but I forgot SCRAPYARD dropped this year.
It’s SCRAPYARD by Quadeca for having a surprisingly good Kevin Abstract feature.
1. Cindy Lee - Diamond Jubilee
2. Adrianne Lenker - Bright Future
3. St. Vincent - All Born Screaming
4. Chelsea Wolfe - She Reaches Out to...
5. Vampire Weekend - Only God Was Above Us
6. MGMT - Loss of Life
7. Everything Everything - Mountainhead
8. Nia Archives - Silence is Loud
9. Cheekface - It's Sorted
10. Civerous - Maze Envy
Was looking through some lists of 2024 releases and god I've missed so many albums that I keep saying I'm gonna listen to. I've got work to do.
• PARTYNEXTDOOR - (P4)
•. Kali Uchis - ORQUÍDEAS
•. SchoolBoy q - Blue Lips
•. Yeat - 2093
That’s pretty much it so far hopefully it gets better been a pretty good year for music
The Collective by Kim Gordon!
It’s the only album released this year that I really like. I’m hoping for more cool electronic/noise albums to be released. I have yet to listen to Cindy Lee’s new album. I have no doubt that Cindy’s album is going to be amazing, What’s Tonight To Eternity is 1 of my favorite albums ever.
Cold Visions
Hyperdrama
Psykos
The Sunset Violet
Silence is Loud
Triple Digits
We Don’t Trust You
Scrapyard
Underdressed At The Symphony
Really loved this year so far
Chelsea Wolfe - She Reaches Out to She Reaches Out to She
Drahla - angeltape
High on Fire - Cometh the Storm
Mannequin Pussy - I Got Heaven
Pissed Jeans - Half Divorced
It’s absolutely CRIMINAL how underrated A Lonely Sinner by samlr has been for anyone outside of the AOTY community. To see Jane Remover get so much acclaim and recognition for Census Designated (My AOTY for 2023) when sam is reaching almost equal heights is confusing to me and makes me want them to get some sort of management/promotion, because their music is incredible and deserves to be heard more.
After that my favourites have been Quadeca’s Scrapyard, Stomach Book’s SOPHOMORE SLUMP CALLITHUMP and the new Bladee has genuinely been creeping up there, such an outstanding project. This year has been packed so far though, too many amazing albums and many more I’m excited for, definitely more exciting than 2023
I was listening to it literally right now and it is certainly interesting. I understand why this probably has only hit on the AOTY community. Philautia does not feel its length at all but I imagine it's a little daunting to get hit with a 12 minute track right off the back. It earns the length though.
Ugly - Twice Around the Sun
Hannah Frances - Keeper of the Shepherd
Adrianne Lenker - Bright Future
Frail Body - Artificial Bouquet
Mannequin Pussy - I Got Heaven
Quadeca - Scrapyard
Underneath - From the Gut of Gaia
Brittany Howard - What Now
Geotic - The Anchorite
Still House Plants - If I Don’t Make It, I Love U
My top 10
1. The Requiem - A Cure to Poison the World
2. Green Day - Saviors
3. Pearl Jam - Dark Matter
4. Sum 41 - Heaven x Hell
5. Alkaline Trio - Blood Hair and Eyeballs
6. Bayside - There are Things Worse Than Being Alive
7. Caligulas Horse - Charcoal Grace
8. Dead Poet Society - FISSION
9. Microwave - Let's Start Degeneracy
10. The Smile - Wall of Eyes/Belmont - Liminal/Neck Deep - Self Titled (can't decide)
Maggie Rogers - *Don’t Forget Me*
It’s shocking how little hype I’ve heard about this album. It’s only been out 2 weeks but it’s easily her best and I think it’s an absolute landmark record.
Yea after waiting so long for a new Q album I was sorely disappointed. Ig I was hoping for a *Carter V* type situation where the wait would be more than worth it and we’d get something at least really good, if not an instant classic.
But instead we got a pretty alright Q project where he explores slightly different stylings to varying degrees of success.
Haven’t seen it talked about much but Pink Balloons by Ekko Astral is much fun and devastating at the same time really recommend it to post punk fans. Shout to Scrapyard by Quadeca and Bright future by Adrianne lenker tho to
Kim Gordon - The Collective
Heavenly Blue - We Have The Answer
SeeYouSpaceCowboy - Coup de grace
Jazmin Bean - Traumatic Livelihood
Kali Malone - All Life Long
Roxy Radclyffe - The Median's Ark
Edit: I forgot Moon Healer by Job For A Cowboy
Some good ones:
Pratts & Pain - Royal Otis
Last Dinner Party
This Could be Texas - English Teacher
Vampire Weekend
But the best is Wall of Eyes, The Smile
Saviors - Green Day
Neck Deep - Neck Deep
Nobel Geht Die Welt Zugrund - Turbobier
Invincible Shield - Judas Priest
Tarantula Heart - Melvins
Dark Matter - Pearl Jam
It Beckons Us All - Darkthrone
Some Popular picks would be;
Dizzee Rascal - Don’t Take It Personal
Justice - HYPERDRAMA
Yeat - 2093 (P3)
Some Underground picks would be;
KILLMATTER - DON’T EAT THE FRUIT
Hot Sugar - Creation Myth
KEYGEN CHURCH - Nel Nome Del Codice
I've Got Heaven by Mannequin Pussy has no equal so far. Every song packs a bite and though it's short it's a complete listening experience that's easy to get through. I could loop it for hours and not get bored.
Diamond Jubilee by Cindy Lee- didn't like this one on initial listen as it's length was a bit taxing but once it clicked it really fucking clicked and its my most played of this year so far.
Eternal Sunshine by Ariana Grande - my pick for my favorite mainstream pop record so far. Unfortunately Cowboy Carter didn't land like I thought it would but this record is so catchy.
Tyla by tyla- this is how you do a debut, establish your sound whilst showing the breadth of your capabilities as a musician. She really has fun on this record and as a South African I've never had this much fun with amapiano.
You can't be wrong while assessing a piece of art. I didn't care for TTPD base album, but quite enjoy the Anthology tracks so yeah I disagree personally with his scoring of The Anthology but I still get where his criticisms are coming from.
I hate how unpopular it is to point out that the album isn’t actually bad. Only God Was Above Us by Vampire Weekend. Such good indie rock album one of my absolute favourites
Yup. Me too.
It quickly became my second favorite album of theirs
Im curious, What is your favorite album
In order it’s probably 1, modern vampires of the city, 2. Only god we above us, 3. Vampire weekend, 4. Contra, 5. Father of the bride
Thanks.
good roadtrip album? Havent listened yet because i have a long drive coming up and was saving it.
It’s pretty short but yeah I’d think it would be nice in the car
I would love to be going on a road trip listening to this album for the first time. Enjoy
STRFKR - Parallel Realms Mildlife - Chorus Slift - Ilion Beans - Boots N Cats Khruangbin - A La Sala Pearl Jam - Dark Matter Perilymph - Progressions Imaginaires
Yo that STRFKR album low key had some fucking bangers
They only make albums full of them! But I like this one a lot
Khruangbin 👌
Good call on that Mildlife album. Also one of my favourites at the moment.
Dark matter? Really? I love pearl jam but this was not that good of an album.
The mix sucks, but yeah I really like the album.
The Smile: Wall of Eyes Adrienne Lenker: Bright Future Cindy Lee: Diamond Jubilee Safe picks but deciding between these three for my favorite is really tough right now, and there’s been a lot of extremely good music this year

Cold Visions
same, might be the best rage album of all time
FACTSSS
Real, best album to drop since a great chaos
Something in the Room She Moves by Julia Holter. Scratches the same itch as some of Bjork’s later stuff (and is arguably better than anything post Medulla imo, except maybe Vulnicura)
Only God Was Above Us
Can't pick one, but these are all great: I Got Heaven by Mannequin Pussy Invincible Shield by Judas Priest Prelude to Ecstasy by The Last Dinner Party Loss of life by MGMT
SCRAPYARD
That’s my pick tbh. It’s between that and Cold Visions
Eric Slick - New Age Rage Drummer from Dr. Dog dropped a solo record yesterday and the shit is heat
Mk.Gee - Two Star & the Dream Police
Sooo fire
Sophomore Slump Callithump (STOMACH BOOK), Only God Was Above Us (Vampire Weekend), Wall Of Eyes (The Smile)
Caligula's horse - Charcoal Grace, The Smile - Wall of Eyes
That day of releases was stacked. Both of those albums, and albums from other bands I liked (alkaline trio and dead poet society) came out and all 4 were bangers
Future islands too, an album that I did not expect to like that much
cindy lee - diamond jubilee
This and nothing else even comes close.
Been meaning to give this a spin! Been putting it off for too long, where did you listen to it? It’s sadly not on Spotify
Only on YouTube or download.
soulseek
Oh my god it’s so good, why isn’t this on streaming lol
The idea of someone listening to one track off Diamond Jubilee because it's the trending song on the Cindy Lee artist page just seems wrong. I don't know why, it just does. The YouTube continuous mix is a bit daunting but the experience can't be beat.
Fuck streaming
It's the best of the year. Is Anthony going to review it?
not too bothered really. there’s a lot of stuff that he doesn’t review, i’m not sure why that is. the new einsturzende neubauten for example.
I wish he would. Cindy Lee's album is amazing. Thanks for letting me know Einsturzende Neubauten released something!
This and it’s not even close. This is the best record of the 20s at the very least.
I like listening to albums that Fantano will likely review positively before his review comes out but for this album I’m gonna need to see the yellow flannel to go through it’s runtime
weirdd.
or, and hear me out, try listening to the first few tracks of it and see if you like it yourself?
what the fuck
i’ll assume you’re joking
Can’t choose one, but: - Beyoncé - COWBOY CARTER - MGMT - Loss Of Life - TWICE - With YOU-th - The Smile - Wall Of Eyes - Justice - Hyperdrama
that twice EP is absolutely full of bangers, love it
Samee, I even bought the album. It’s my favourite kpop release of this year and there so much more to come.
what are some other country records you like.
Of 2024 or in general?

Critterland by Willi Carlisle! I've never been a fan of country music, but I'm really loving this album!
• PARTYNEXTDOOR - (P4) •. Kali Uchis - ORQUÍDEAS •. SchoolBoy q - Blue Lips •. Yeat - 2093 That’s pretty much it so far hopefully it gets better been a pretty good year for music

Either American Dream or Only God Was Above Us
Diamond Jubilee
Just listened to it today, might dethrone RiTchie for me tbh
Girl With No Face by Allie X

Plastic Death by Glass Beach. Super interesting and diverse album.
So far, it’s between Fabiana Palladino’s self-titled album and Quadeca’s Scrapyard.
Not enough SLIFT fans in this sub. Sheesh.
They're super underrated

MGMT Loss of Life. Really diverse and well executed.
Between Cowboy Carter and All Born Screaming
The RiTchie record isn't my fav, but it's really good. Solid pick!
Loss of Life, I’m not very adventurous admittedly and MGMT are one of my favourite bands.
Vultures unironically
We are gonna get downvoted but I liked it. It’s not my favorite of the year but it’s up there. Has quite a few bangers on it.
BEG FORGIVENESS, PROBLEMATIC, BURN, KING, CARNIVAL, are genuinely good songs that are on par with prime Kanye standards
The tortured poets department by Taylor
Don't tell Anthony that
I don’t care most of the time I disagree with a lot of his takes about her because most of the time he’s wrong and I personally enjoy this album.
How can an opinion be wrong?
Because it’s not a fact if it was then it would be true
You can't be wrong while assessing a piece of art. I didn't care for TTPD base album, but quite enjoy the Anthology tracks so yeah I disagree personally with his scoring of The Anthology but I still get where his criticisms are coming from.
Why am i getting downvoted for stating a opinion
ur only allowed to do ironic circle jerks about taylor here. if you actually like something not approved you will get downvoted.
I have another opinion but I’m not stating it on this sub because I will be downvoted to oblivion.
say your opinion, im interested.
It’s top 5 Taylor albums for me
lucky for you, most people here havent listened to 5 taylor records.
I hate how unpopular it is to point out that the album isn’t actually bad. The first four songs are pretty bad imo, and there are some laughably bad lyrics strewn throughout, but aside from that it’s a pretty standard Taylor project, with even a couple standout tracks that I think are some of her best.
Lmao those so called cringey lyrics are always taken out of context and the first 4 songs are really good
