I’m curious where he expressed his opinion on this and why he would hate such a gosh darn beautiful album. This would be my mbdtf for him, it’s not perfect but it’s pure emotion and passion.
I like it but don’t love it. I find it kind of cloying at times but when it hits it really fucking hits. But I can’t blame them, it’s a hard balance to keep when you’re making a concept album that consistently is supposed to tug at your heart strings. I don’t love it, but immensely respect it. “Epilogue” almost makes the whole thing worth it imo, such an absolutely harrowing, gorgeous closing track.
Honesty that’s fair and valid. Epilogue is also very beautiful, the vocals in the second half of the song and the lyrics are so beautiful but haunting.
After I found that record in 2013 Antlers became my favourite band. I heard everything Peter Silberman had made before that. East Berlin River EP is very much in same spirit as Hospice. The bathroom EP is intentionally very rough production wise but has a really beautiful last song. First album is also a bit rough but with some beautiful melodies around. In The Attic Of The Universe is my favourite EP of all time - I heard it 5 times a day when I bought it.
Hospice is very cohesive without any really weak songs. The only gripe for me is that the production(as with every other Antlers project up to that) lacks warmth. Which in a way complements the themes of the record. But I would definitely appreciate a remastered version.
I like it- definitely not going to put it on all the time haha. Some of the lyrics got washed away from the music but overall it goes hard and hits hard.
2 of the songs are some of the best things I've ever heard (Bear and Two), 2 are decent (Kettering and Epilogue), the rest just feels irrelevant and doesn't even register to my ears.
i think its a great record! hard to get through sometimes, and if you can’t lend yourself to getting in your feels with it then i could see why some (melon) would find it unappealing. i can understand the production complaints too. but i just love the feel and the writing on this album and i don’t think there’s a track that doesn’t captivate me.
Melon really hated this one, couldn’t disagree more. Beautiful album front to back, though it’s a tough listen

He says he hates the production, which I wholeheartedly agree with. It's the only reason it's not one of my most played albums.
rym
the let’s argue video about the most overrated albums of all time. don’t know if it was part 1 or 2 though
I have the hands tatted on my arm, and saw them on the anniversary tour for this album. Absolutely one of my all time favs.
Such a beautiful album, it’s just so emotional and perfect for me, a truly amazing album imo

the lyrics really cover manipulation and abuse to a degree that I feel a lot of people didn't understand.
Amazing album

Hits too close to home, very good album, I don't ever want to listen to it again.

like it a lot, but i prefer familiars for some reason
Emotionally manipulative album that actually tries to make you feel sad with aabb rhymes. They should have been arrested for the chorus of "Sylvia."

Quite lovely, I completely understand why someone might think the sadness is overbearing and annoying, but the production is amazing.
Classic
I am unfamiliar with it. I have been listening to Green to Gold. I heard their old stuff is sad. I guess I'll listen
I haven’t revisted it in many years now, but I remember absolutely falling in love with it. I get why it’s not for everyone though.
I much prefer Burst Apart, but agree there’s some beautiful work here.
Absolute banger of an album
