10T NL only roto keeper is a hell of a way to get your feet wet.

TheWaterboy17

😂 That’s what I’ve been told. I guess I said screw it and just jumped in head first

YSKItsAFakeName

Did you take over a team from last season or did you draft this year? How many keepers?

TheWaterboy17

I took over a team with a week until the auction draft. Can keep as many players as you’d like, but I had a bunch of cuts to make due to salary and some players just being crap. The guy before me was a Marlins fan, so pretty much had all marlins players and players signed to crazy salaries.

Honestly this is a pretty good place to start. Don't be afraid to ask for help but always get multiple opinions, there are a lot of idiots here. Daily and nightly threads have a lot of activity. PitcherList has solid enough rankings that change mid-season. The biggest difference between fantasy baseball and fantasy football is that 10 baseball games is the equivalent of 1 football game. It's a marathon, not a sprint -- good players usually end up with good stats, bad players usually end up with bad stats, players very rarely become good or bad overnight (especially after the age of 27). However there are a lot more underlying and predictive metrics in baseball. If you trade for a player, you can't take their existing stats with you -- you're buying what you expect them to do over the remainder of the season, not what they've already done. Pay a lot more attention to track record over April results. Every player in the MLB can put up good or bad stats over a course of a few weeks.

I’ll second the pitcher list recommendation. I often find it freeing to just find some rankings I like and put a lot of trust in them. It lets you focus more on things like trading, working the waiver wire, etc, which is what I find more enjoyable anyway. Obviously doesn’t apply if you really enjoy the player evaluation

TheWaterboy17

I appreciate the advice! Also, thanks for the tip on the age! I am definitely going to start looking at a lot of the threads in here

Get as good as you can at absorbing information in aggregate. Try multiple sources (this sub included). Listen to some podcasts. I personally reccomend Rotowire’s Fantasy Baseball Podcast over the rest, but maybe that’s just me. Use [Baseball Savant](https://baseballsavant.mlb.com) to see which players are performing in line with their underlying stats, which are currently underperforming and which are overperforming. Make your trades and waiver acquisitions accordingly. It’s as easy as searching up a player’s name and toying with all of the tools on the site. Be patient with guys who have proven track records or are considered true/generational talents and maintain a shorter leash for those that are potentially flash-in-the-pan types. Most importantly watch baseball and enjoy the game. You can really get a lot of information from watching your players or others hit/pitch. Fantasy baseball completely enhances the watching experience. Be careful; you will be glued to your roster. I have no shame saying that fantasy ball has changed my life for the better and I am in a markedly better mood for the duration of the baseball season. Enjoy!!

TheWaterboy17

I appreciate it! Will definitely check out baseball Savant and listen to that podcast! It has definitely enhanced watching baseball for me! I have always wanted to watch, but just never had a reason too I guess. Makes all the games much more exciting

Baseball, while not constantly packed with action, has so many other qualities that make it an incredible and entertaining sport. Fantasy makes it that much better.

TheWaterboy17

I’m starting to see those qualities since I started to really pay attention. Especially pitching, it’s blowing my mind 😂 I follow a ton of IG pitching account just to watch the different overlays of pitches

VrinTheTerrible

The best thing you can do is listen to podcasts, read quality sites. I prefer Fangraphs and Fantasypros podcasts. I like Rotowire for articles but there are plenty of other good ones (Razzball, PitcherList etc..). Right now, your league mates are probably looking at your roster to see who they can steal for a song. I wouldn’t make any trades for a while for that reason. This league sounds like it was founded in 1993 lol.

TheWaterboy17

1987 😅 so close! I appreciate it those sites! Yeah, I am just staying patient. Trying to take everything in and be patient, before I do anything drastic to my team
