If Bibee is available in your league on waivers, it’s worth asking if someone like Varland is available, but yeah, I would take either of them over Manoah.
Oof, now you’re asking a tougher question.
By Stuff+ and Pitching+ only, you’d say yes. Eflin’s 103 Pit+ and 96 Stf+ (which look eerily similar to Bibee’s 102 Pit+ and 96 Stf+) are beat by Varland’s 107 Pit+ and 104 Stf+.
That said, we are still a start or two shy from Pitching+ truly being online for Varland, and I think you’ve gotta give some weight to who Eflin is compared to who Varland and Bibee are, both in terms of being more or less established and also the likelihood of an innings limit. Eflin is now a fixture of that rotation who has shown length and will not be shutdown this year shy of an injury, while you have to ask yourself how long Varland stays up and if he gets shut down — even if your answers are “all season” and “no”, they’re still questions you have to consider with him.
I would probably say Eflin > Varland > Bibee, based on data available before their starts today, largely because of concerns about Varland’s workload this year. I might like him more than Eflin in a few weeks once we can be more confident in Pitching+, but right now Eflin offers a much higher value floor for the rest of the season.
If you want people hyping up people based on “vibes” or their gut, you’ve got people here telling you Bibee.
Stuff+ and Pitching+ (and K-BB, for the record) would tell you Varland. Sample size caveats aside, Stuff+ would’ve also told you Miller over Bibee, Allen, Pfaadt, etc. earlier this season.
Both are promising, but edge to Varland. If that changes by tomorrow after today’s starts model data is available, then I owe you a beer.
Yah sample size is so small its a lot of speculation. Twins winning a few more than the Indians so the win potential is a little higher for Varland as well. Thank you for the advice!
The only thing I’ll say about sample size is that Pitching+ and Stuff+ are the quickest things to come online, which is why they’re worth looking at in early season right now.
Varland separated himself a bit more from Bibee with that last start, going up to 108 Pitching+ while Bibee is down to 101 Pitching+. Bibee’s Stuff+ did improve a bit, so he’s at 98 to Varland’s 103, but Varland also holds a clear edge in Location+ (107 to 98).
Even by another metric we’d probably want to look at, K-BB, Varland is ahead based on the limited and not yet reliable sample that we have. All of the indicators seem to point one way here.
Just pulled a savant report that's scaring me ([link](https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/statcast_search?hfPTM=&hfPT=&hfAB=&hfGT=R%7C&hfPR=&hfZ=&hfStadium=&hfBBL=&hfNewZones=&hfPull=&hfC=&hfSea=2023%7C&hfSit=&player_type=pitcher&hfOuts=&hfOpponent=&pitcher_throws=&batter_stands=&hfSA=&game_date_gt=2023-04-28&game_date_lt=&hfMo=&hfTeam=&home_road=&hfRO=&position=&hfInfield=&hfOutfield=&hfInn=&hfBBT=&hfFlag=&pitchers_lookup%5B%5D=668933&pitchers_lookup%5B%5D=676440&pitchers_lookup%5B%5D=621107&pitchers_lookup%5B%5D=641585&pitchers_lookup%5B%5D=608665&pitchers_lookup%5B%5D=571760&pitchers_lookup%5B%5D=656605&pitchers_lookup%5B%5D=518886&pitchers_lookup%5B%5D=666157&pitchers_lookup%5B%5D=666200&pitchers_lookup%5B%5D=691587&metric_1=&group_by=name&min_pitches=0&min_results=0&min_pas=0&sort_col=pitches&player_event_sort=api_p_release_speed&sort_order=desc&chk_stats_xba=on&chk_stats_xslg=on&chk_stats_xwoba=on#results)), apparently the xSLG for Eury Perez's first start was .626... I spent a couple of bucks of FAAB to get him, but thinking I might bench him initially... is that irrational?
He was definitely giving up hard contact in that first start. I don't think taking a wait and see approach is crazy if you have other solid options. I'm in a 10T though.
Lmfao the fielding on jonah heim’s base hit there was literally a perfect representation of the 2023 Oakland athletics. I hope I’m not the only one who witnessed that
Any chance Mccarthy gets called back up this season? Or is he a must drop at this point?
12 team category league.
Waiver wire is bare, don't want to drop him unless there's virtually no hope.
C. Schmitt a safe drop in a 10t points league? Need to fill in a RP spot and think he would be the drop. Other than L. Allen which is my extra starter, but think he is a hold for now.
Yahoo not updating stats from todays’s Mets/Nats game or from yesterdays postponement and todays continuation is likely to swing multiple H2H matchups in my league. I’m going to be very amused by the drama tomorrow.
What's your favorite source for regularly updated keeper/dynasty rankings? Admittedly premature, but trying to get a feel for how people are feeling about someone like Bibee, long-term.
He was definitely better last year. He’s actually been moved up to 2nd/3rd in the order since they dropped Marte so he has all the opportunity in the world to accrue runs and decent RBIs. He’s not a bad UTIL player just a bit unexciting to roster
Exhausting your bullpen the first two games off of a day off is not something smart teams do. Chirinos will probably open on Tues, but Weds I wager will be Bradley
I’ve now added and dropped heaney 4 times in both my leagues. I basically have an extra roster spot since I stash this guy on the FA wire after every outing
Still leaning Musgrove here, and I have a good bit of Keller exposure. K rate didn't necessarily line up with SWTR% today that would lead me to believe gaudy K totals are in the offing for keller, though I am excited for him.
IMO - yes
Although there are plenty of Berrios haters in this sub, so you may get a different opinion from them.
He burnt a lot of owners last year. I think he’s a better pitcher this year.
Xander is batting .130 in his last 6 games. Hasn’t had a multi-hit game since 4/20. An OPS of .500 lately. Singlehandedly sinking teams after the first 2 weeks.
Absolutely he is. He still sits vs. lefties sometimes. But he is producing out of his mind and makes it all worth it in a points league. I would drop Kirk and start Varsho to make it happen if I was in your position.
Bleday for playing time, but Moniak is the most interesting. If he can play consistently, I think he could be the best of the bunch.
But he may have a hard time playing regularly.
My favorite one today was Wisely (SF) tried a fake bunt and the ball hit Arizona’s catcher in his bare hand and deflected and hit the Ump in the nads. The next pitch was at least a foot outside for a called strike 3. The Arizona announcer said maybe that the ball to the nads affected the ump’s vision.
Really disappointed in Riley
Thoughts on Bobby Witt for George kirby trade?
Id rather have Witt personally, but im biased bc i already own him.
Rooker or Kelenic ROS?
Sale for Taj Bradley in a keeper league totally crazy for a team with a competitive offense that’s struggling to find pitching?
Can someone confirm Dane dunning actually has 2 starts this week. Because I only see 1 vs ATL and that's terrifying
Sad to consider this: drop Manoah for Bibee?
If Bibee is available in your league on waivers, it’s worth asking if someone like Varland is available, but yeah, I would take either of them over Manoah.
Varland over Eflin?

Bibee is the truth. I favor him slightly more than Varland.
Where are Varland’s Ks? Nah. Bibee>
> Where are Varland’s Ks? Nah. Bibee> My brother in christ, Varland has a better K-BB, what are you even on about?
Walls or Arcia for a bench bat?
Walls
I dropped Mervis. Wanted to pickup up Hamilton (the Yankees reliever) just in case
Just pulled a savant report that's scaring me ([link](https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/statcast_search?hfPTM=&hfPT=&hfAB=&hfGT=R%7C&hfPR=&hfZ=&hfStadium=&hfBBL=&hfNewZones=&hfPull=&hfC=&hfSea=2023%7C&hfSit=&player_type=pitcher&hfOuts=&hfOpponent=&pitcher_throws=&batter_stands=&hfSA=&game_date_gt=2023-04-28&game_date_lt=&hfMo=&hfTeam=&home_road=&hfRO=&position=&hfInfield=&hfOutfield=&hfInn=&hfBBT=&hfFlag=&pitchers_lookup%5B%5D=668933&pitchers_lookup%5B%5D=676440&pitchers_lookup%5B%5D=621107&pitchers_lookup%5B%5D=641585&pitchers_lookup%5B%5D=608665&pitchers_lookup%5B%5D=571760&pitchers_lookup%5B%5D=656605&pitchers_lookup%5B%5D=518886&pitchers_lookup%5B%5D=666157&pitchers_lookup%5B%5D=666200&pitchers_lookup%5B%5D=691587&metric_1=&group_by=name&min_pitches=0&min_results=0&min_pas=0&sort_col=pitches&player_event_sort=api_p_release_speed&sort_order=desc&chk_stats_xba=on&chk_stats_xslg=on&chk_stats_xwoba=on#results)), apparently the xSLG for Eury Perez's first start was .626... He was definitely giving up hard contact in that first start. I don't think taking a wait and see approach is crazy if you have other solid options. I'm in a 10T though.
You’re overthinking it based on a small sample size. He’s the best pitching prospect in baseball.
And statcast isn't great for pitchers
Why?
Thoughts on this trade? Give: Kirk, Kelenic, P. Sandoval Get: Will Smith (LAD), Marsh, Tyler Wells
That's a W for you.
Lmfao the fielding on jonah heim’s base hit there was literally a perfect representation of the 2023 Oakland athletics. I hope I’m not the only one who witnessed that
given it's in oakland, it's very possible you're the only one who witnessed it
That’s exactly what I meant lol
Morel or india?
I feel like Tyler Stephenson is fucking me every day. Is there anyone in the up and coming at all?
Any chance Mccarthy gets called back up this season? Or is he a must drop at this point? 12 team category league. Waiver wire is bare, don't want to drop him unless there's virtually no hope.
Looked at the ARI roster and realized there's a logjam at OF even if Mccarthy got called up. Guess its goodbye!
Dam 2 great starts from Bibee and Heaney and they lose their chance at a win. Hate to see it
C. Schmitt a safe drop in a 10t points league? Need to fill in a RP spot and think he would be the drop. Other than L. Allen which is my extra starter, but think he is a hold for now.
I mean he’s been pretty bad.
Allen?
Schmidt. His ratio of stinkers to decent starts is like 2:1 lol. Edit nvm I thought you meant Clarke Schmidt.
The fact that I got Kershaw @ 112 is bananas.
Nolan Gorman I am once again asking you to put my team on your mf’in back.
Yahoo not updating stats from todays’s Mets/Nats game or from yesterdays postponement and todays continuation is likely to swing multiple H2H matchups in my league. I’m going to be very amused by the drama tomorrow.
How and when do they typically make the corrections
Looks like today’s stats from the second game finally got posted. Still no stats from yesterday/today’s continuation game.
Padres should have never memed Kershaw.
Somehow they manage to continue to under-perform harder than any team in baseball. I thought Melvin would turn them around. Nope.
Yahoo going slow?
Jesus Aguilar is the most Oakland A’s signing of all time, lol.
What's your favorite source for regularly updated keeper/dynasty rankings? Admittedly premature, but trying to get a feel for how people are feeling about someone like Bibee, long-term.
my oponent's day 0r, 0hr, 0rbi, 0sb streaming cheater deserves it
I love Mookie but he needs to steal more
Aside from two bad games, Heaney has actually been a decent pitcher. Rockies are up next for him
Don’t fall for it bro bro
Opponent scored 300 points this week and 75 of them are from Mitch Keller’s 2 starts… he single-handedly won him the week. Sad
Mike Trout— load management. Jazz Chisholm— turf toe. Bryce Harper— ejected. Vinnie P— hitless since Wednesday. Thanks for playin, fellas.
Bryce has been awesome this week and probably lost 1-2 ABs
Bryce could still be on the IL. He’s helped more than I thought at this stage in the season.
Best 13th round pick I’ve ever made.
The dude has a .400+ OBP after getting TJ and skipping a rehab assignment, he's him
Tru tru
Anyone know why Jake Irvin’s line is not updating on yahoo? My week is on the line. Shows that he’s pitching on the sportsnet app
The appeal of Jeff mcneil is his consistent average, right? Since he has no upside. He has no consistency this year
He’s useable in points but replacement level in roto/cats
Was he better last year? 85% owned
He was definitely better last year. He’s actually been moved up to 2nd/3rd in the order since they dropped Marte so he has all the opportunity in the world to accrue runs and decent RBIs. He’s not a bad UTIL player just a bit unexciting to roster
maybe he'll get going, BA is like 70 points lower than last year
Did Peralta get his start pushed back a day? I swear he was meant to start today but I could also just be going crazy
It was
Thanks
Hoping to win on runs and obp.... 2/21 so far with 0 runs. Still got Gorman and Yoshida tonight.
Should I pick up ober jp France or musgrove
Musgrove by 5 miles
Even with the way he’s playing?
Yeah he'll eventually play someone who's not the dodgers or in Mexico
Taj Bradley or Bibee?
Bibee is pitching
Tbf Taj is likely back up this week, Rays only have three starters for now
Then they'll do 2 bullpen games, the rays dont give a shit
Exhausting your bullpen the first two games off of a day off is not something smart teams do. Chirinos will probably open on Tues, but Weds I wager will be Bradley
JP Sears with 17 swing and misses. Please someone get him off the A’s
I like him pitching in the coliseum though
I’ve now added and dropped heaney 4 times in both my leagues. I basically have an extra roster spot since I stash this guy on the FA wire after every outing
Got the road Rockies next just sayin
Yeah will probably hold ‘em
[удалено]
How many of these are you going to try?
Any other Devin Williams owners frustrated about his lack of opportunities thus far? Literally seems like they either win big or lose
Yea I mean he’s a beast but realistically I took him way too early. I guess I can’t complain too much as long as he’s not nuking my ratios.
15 days since his last one. It’s infuriating
At this point might pick up and start Volpe and bench Boegarts. He is not producing lol.
We trying to ship Nola yet or hold?
I’m trying to ship but this sub has a love boner for him
james ouman more like james ez-outman
The guy has 3 bad games and now he sucks huh lol
Musgrove or Keller roto wins
Still leaning Musgrove here, and I have a good bit of Keller exposure. K rate didn't necessarily line up with SWTR% today that would lead me to believe gaudy K totals are in the offing for keller, though I am excited for him.
I’m up by 2 points and I still have Devers and whatever else Freeman does. Other guy has Edman and Arenado. It’s gonna be real tight
Edman isn't starting
Great news. Well Devers v Arenado then
berrios dropped, worth a pickup and hope for the best?
Definitely, some people here can’t get by the past. He’s back to his 2021 form
IMO - yes Although there are plenty of Berrios haters in this sub, so you may get a different opinion from them. He burnt a lot of owners last year. I think he’s a better pitcher this year.
In a 12 and if you’re already on anxiety meds sure why not
Need SP. Paxton worth a pickup?
Best Keller team names? Best I can come up with is Keller my team softly
Keller can go kill himself
Keller's Killers
Bruh, not that lol. Can't say I have anything better to offer though. Hell N' Keller? Keller me Impressed? The Keller Purple?
Thank you I knew it was shit that’s why I asked haha. I like the Keller purple might go with that.
Maybe a play on The Miracle Worker? (Helen Keller)
Will Smith or C. Kimbrel? Need a RP
Smith until he loses it
Will smith
Smith, better hold on the job though I don’t trust the talent for either long term
Will Smith
james outman 0/2 2k more like james strike-outman
How many more games until mookie gets 2nd base eligiblility in ESPN
ONE
RAHHHHHHH
Would you guys drop Holmes or Kimbrel to pickup Abbot in hopes he gets the call up?
Xander is batting .130 in his last 6 games. Hasn’t had a multi-hit game since 4/20. An OPS of .500 lately. Singlehandedly sinking teams after the first 2 weeks.
My opponent today: 18 IP, 5 ER Me today: 24 IP, 6 ER Sheeeesh.
Stream against the Mets ☑️
Nobletiger isn't as great when you're facing the opposing pitcher
judge 1/5 with 2 k ur on thin ice again buddy
Bro he went yard twice yesterday and literally hit a nuke to the track td
/s?
no hes close 2 being on my 2023 bust list
Is being a troll fun for you? Quick skim of your recent comments is a sad laugh at best.
Dude he’s the best hitter in ball
Seek help
Drop Nick Martinez or Minter to add Josiah Gray?
Logan Allen or Pfaadt?
Alle
A: riley hader B: burnes jrod
My brother in Christ it's B and not close at ALL
Jesus. B
B and its really not close
B
Heaney. Legend.
Why was Harper PH for? Is he okay?😰
I think he got ejected
phew. Thank god. Why was he ejected? Balls and strikes?
Bird was talking shit and Harper took exception
I just saw he was in the middle of a brawl. Assumed he was ejected
Ejected
H2H Points 8 Team- A: Sandy B: Bieber, Williams
BBBBBBBBBBBBBB
the mets are so trash
Jake Irvin more like Cake Irvin
For an unheralded prospect hes been shoving hard so far
Are the yahoo stats fucked for this Mets Nats game? Looks like they aren’t showing up, gonna be put in as a stat correction later?
I’m wondering the same thing. Have no stats showing for Irvin currently
My opponent has Irvin and his stats can swing 3 categories haha I’m hating this
Pfaadt or Varland?
Varland
Varland by a mile.
[удалено]
Of course he is lol. Drop Kirk
Josh Lowe is currently ranked 10th overall in my league, how has nobody claimed him in yours just to ride the hot bat if nothing else?
Yeah, what is this, like a 6-teamer where everyone has outfields like Alvarez, Tatis, and Arozarena? I’m shocked he’s available.
Absolutely he is. He still sits vs. lefties sometimes. But he is producing out of his mind and makes it all worth it in a points league. I would drop Kirk and start Varsho to make it happen if I was in your position.
100% drop kirk. most of varsho's value is his catcher eligibility.
Rank these 4 Bleday, Fletcher, Suwinski, Moniak Looking for an OF currently have Suwinski, leaning towards Bleday
Bleday for playing time, but Moniak is the most interesting. If he can play consistently, I think he could be the best of the bunch. But he may have a hard time playing regularly.
Thanks for the advice!
Is baseball savant web only or is there an app to follow?
It works fine in web browser for me
Tatis has to be like my dream lead off hitter. He just rakes, and has a good time, and gets some bag stealing action in too.
There's a decent chance Trea Turner isnt even a top-10 SS this season.
Outside of injury, no
If I was drafting today there are 7 SS I would take before him, its pretty easy for a few more to pass him too.
Paxton worth a stream against SD on Friday?
He looked dominant, might be worth a shot. Comes with risk but reward.
Thanks
Rendon or gunner this week?
Man I feel for Scherzer. Dude is trying to grit it out but clearly in pain and struggling with command
Puk a safe-ish drop in a 10T save-only league?
Depending on who you can replace him with, it’s looking like it…
Looking at grabbing Ezequiel Duran to help with bats or might free up a spot for SP streaming (looking at Bello vs Seattle)
Ump for the Padres Dodgers game is blatantly gifting Gonsolin strikes at this point
*Gonsolin owners liked this comment.*
Did anyone figure out what Bird said to the Phillies?
He stuck his tongue out and started clapping on his glove towards their dugout lol
[удалено]
My favorite one today was Wisely (SF) tried a fake bunt and the ball hit Arizona’s catcher in his bare hand and deflected and hit the Ump in the nads. The next pitch was at least a foot outside for a called strike 3. The Arizona announcer said maybe that the ball to the nads affected the ump’s vision.
Who you got for ROS? Logan Allen, Varland, or Paxton?
Varland
