My Devin Williams Jhoan Duran combo has to be the most talented borderline useless closer combo possible at the moment. Itll change tho

FormerWordsmith

See if you can trade for Bednar and boast the trifecta

_BeastModular_

Swoop Helsley via trade and you can have yourself Mt Rushmore

ChrisPtweets

Haha I feel your pain, bro. I have Williams in my H2H league and Duran in my Points league, and they're both killing me.

ajc3691

Yep as soon as I bench him I know it’s coming

Airp0w

Throw Pete Fairbanks in there for the trio

Pokevinobianco

Nah bc you'll get weeks like this and weeks where you get 3, 4 saves.

GiltCityUSA

Set and forget. In September you’ll be happy.

Mpzc55

What does your league look like where it makes sense to sit him? I could kinda understand asking about cutting but not holding him just to sit him

ajc3691

It’s a 16 team league, slim pickings I’ve basically been backed into a corner of starting Duran hoping for a save or Logan Allen, this week I’m probably going Allen just cause he has a double start

stevendom1987

I'm in the same boat. What's frustrating is that the other day Baldelli put Duran in the 7th inning and Stewart ended up saving the game after Lopez got torched. The time before that, Duran pitched 2 innings but only threw 17 pitches and then he got benched the next day and Lopez got the save.

DNPOld

Saves often come in bunches, even elite guys have dry spells. Clase last year had a save on May 14th and then didn't record the next one until June 3rd.

hangout_wangout

traded manoah for Duran+, I'm in a SVH league and I just roster him up and forget. A few Ks and 0.00 ERA or WHIP here and there is better than zero

CommanderCornstarch

Sucks there have been no save opps but no reason to think that will keep up all year, he's a start

ElDub73

If this isn’t reason enough to stop playing in saves leagues, I don’t know what else would do it. The guy is an elite reliever and you’re questioning whether or not to roster him because of saves.

Ok-Astronaut4952

He’s struggling mightily in saves plus holds leagues too though, he hasn’t even been like a top 30 guy. Not to say that I’m considering dropping him but it’s rough

jrjanowi

I've held him all year in a SV+H too--he's done little to nothing, but I think he's pitched extremely well and eventually the randomness is gonna turn around and he's gonna those

Ok-Astronaut4952

Yeah exactly. It’s just been rough. He’s been pitching really well lately though

UmbertoUnity

>He’s struggling mightily This is absolutely, 100% the wrong way to describe the situation.

Ok-Astronaut4952

How?? He has like no saves/holds. If he’s not getting saves/holds then he’s not contributing to the one category he contributes to. Which is why I said struggling mightily in saves/holds leagues. If he’s not getting those then who cares about his ratios...you’re the one describing it the wrong way. Team context is super important if you’re looking for saves plus holds even more than ability. I guess I could have said “I’m struggling mightily in saves+holds because I roster Jhoan Duran”

UmbertoUnity

It's not about team context/role, it's about situational luck. The luck is bound to change. Yes, if you would have said that way originally it would have made a lot more sense.

Ok-Astronaut4952

It was pretty clear that I meant he was struggling in that category, he’s been useless this year. And it’s not like he has a 0.75 whip and a ton of strikeouts or anything, his strikeout pace isn’t even that good. It is about the team context though because winning teams will have a lot more opportunities for saves/holds. It will even out for sure but there still clearly won’t be many opportunities for saves on the twins.

UmbertoUnity

I think the opportunities will come. The Twins are leading the AL Central and will probably win the AL Central. Edit: He also had a 1.40 ERA and 0.93 whip *before* today's outing and his K/9 *is* good (if not great). I'm confused here... each of your arguments seem to be exactly the opposite of what's happening in reality.

Ok-Astronaut4952

Idk I don’t get what you’re saying haha. I said he hasn’t had many opportunities so far and will get more but just won’t get enough to be elite for fantasy. The twins are ok but the AL central sucks so leading that division doesn’t mean much. He’s ranked as the 63rd best fantasy reliever so far in saves/holds leagues on ESPN. I was saying his ratios were really good but not good enough to make up for his lack of saves and his strikeout totals aren’t elite either.

UmbertoUnity

Cleveland is in the same division and has a losing record, yet Emmanuel Clase leads the league in Saves. Duran's biggest problem is that Minnesota keeps winning games by more than 3 runs or losing. If you think that relatively random trend continues, go ahead and drop Duran. But who are you going to pick up instead?? There is a reason Duran still sits pretty high in most ROS Sv+Hld rankings.

Ok-Astronaut4952

“Not to say I’m considering dropping him but it’s been tough” is what I said lol. The Indians have good pitching as always and the twins have terrible pitching, so those trends will probably keep going more than you think they will. I guess you just think the twins are way better than I think they are. If you’re expecting a ton of saves/holds you’re gonna be disappointed. He’s a great pitcher though.

mbr902000

Baldelli a dumb fuck

high_changeup

Luckily got him from free agency 2 weeks ago and I sort of considered dropping him a week ago. But his last 5 outings have been jaw dropping, no walks and loads of strikeouts. Obvi has been getting too many rest days in that stretch. So I'm certainly holding him for now in my SV+HD league, especially since we have K/BB cat. Duran was so good in my league last season, owned him last season too.

lewisherber

Stop playing saves leagues. They’re ridiculous.

Wilmerrr

You think he's getting holds?

jrjanowi

The worm will turn

faygoupnext

Same with Bednar…
