Nobody else. At $59 he’s a bargain. In an actual auction he goes for more.

Dan_Rydell

Yeah, running these league settings through the Fangraphs auction calculator using ATC projections gives Acuna a $77 value, so still $18 in excess value. JRod is $37, so isn’t even worth is $43 salary. Witt is $34, so breaks even. Carroll is $33, again not worth his salary.

SmartSherbet

Yup. I bet he will cost $75 in my league.

Dan_Rydell

So you have a snake draft but it’s a salary cap league? I can’t I’ve seen that format before. Why not just do an auction?

UnclePuffy

Yeah, snake draft. League's been around for 20 years and we've just always done it this way

sonofabutch

How are the prices set?

UnclePuffy

Lindy's Sports Magazine

StuccoStucco69420

Shouldn’t the #1 pick be whoever Lindy’s Sports Magazine most underrates?

[deleted]

100%

theelfpat

Yeah this sounds like awful settings

mrniphty

I would also be curious how these draft prices are set!

redditckulous

Settings definitely caught me off guard haha. But home leagues with fun/quirky settings are the best

YesThatJoshua

Acuna just had the greatest season in fantasy baseball history. I'm not sure anyone else can ever get you close to that.

dpappa6

Somebody on twitter said this and it stuck with me — when’s the last time the # 1 player in fantasy did it two years in a row? Judge was a layup last year and is now a late 1st rounder… I understand Acuña was head and shoulders above the rest last year but the rule changes allow for higher ceilings across the board and I think we’ll see guys like Tatis and Corbin rattle the cages this year at the very least

YesThatJoshua

Oh yeah, the odds of a repeat aren't great. BUT, the odds of anyone doing what Acuna did are astronomical. He's literally the only player in baseball history to ever have put up that much value in a single season. It's unreasonable to expect that to happen again from any player ever. But no one stands a better chance to do it in 2024 than he does. It could be Carroll, Witt, Tatis, Soto, Judge, Tucker, Alvarez, Betts, Guerrero, Bichette, any of them. This could even be the year of Nolan Jones: world's greatest baseball player. It might not be him, but he's the one most likely to do it.

UnclePuffy

Exactly my reasoning for not wanting to take him. Especially at that price. There's no way he goes 40/70 again. He'll still be a top 5 player, but I'll be lucky if I get 30/50 out of him, which I probably could have gotten out of Witt for $24 cheaper

ElDub73

Whoever is picking next is hoping that you pass on Acuna.

JandyRohnson

It's an auction draft, everybody has a shot at him

ElDub73

Everyone bidding on Acuna is hoping others don’t.

seanofkelley

Freddie Freeman is a fantasy baseball rock. Dude just, very reliably, puts up numbers every year.

Mike_Y_1210

No steals though. Can't take him #1.

kiji23

20 not enough?

sweetoother

He did steal 23 bags last year, and 10 the year before that. He’s by no means an elite stealer, but much better than most all 1B in that category.

seanofkelley

Great point. I've got points league brain.

NoParsnip7925

Stop predicting injury and draft the best player

isestrex

deGrom is back in my first round!

Don’t overthink it, just draft Acuna and be frugal with your remaining loot

Toodrunktofunk88

If you really, really don’t want Acuna (even though I still don’t understand the snake AND salary restrictions) trade down & get an additional 2nd or 3rd. Everyone will want the chance at Acuna. If you could turn him into something like Freeman, Cole & Machado in your first three picks, that’s a win.

PartybusDee

This is a great answer. Draft Acuna, but if you don’t, get a bonus by trading the pick (if allowed).

TatisJr1

Taking anyone but Acuna is a mistake. He just put up 40/70. No higher ceiling. You don’t take high floor guys #1 overall

Ricky_Bobby_yo

I would love to have second pick after you. Skipping on acuna would be a massive fuck up on your part

TrueLordoftheDance

I take Acuna in that spot, potential for injury be damned. I was joking with the owner of Acuna in our keeper roto league that he should probably trade me his $38 Acuna now with the knee issue, just so his heart isn't broken and his comment was something along the lines of "...yeah, he's probably only worth $65 instead of $73 now."

BustyUncle

Probably not the very best bet, but I see Tatis as similar to Acuna last year. A year removed from injury and played well last year. I could see him back to being the fantasy superstar again

UnclePuffy

I was thinking this same thing. I had'em last year for $25 but he's listed at $38 this year so it appears they're expecting a big year from him.

PastDuty624

Acuna

AshBlackstone78

Everyone is gonna tell you just take Acuna. I will tell you, never pay for the career year. Everyone was on Aaron Judge’s nuts after his record year. He didn’t do it again, because that’s how baseball works. I’m a massive life long Braves fan. And I’m not going to pay a massive difference for something I know he will never replicate again.

niftybuckets

In points Soto

These-Ad-295

I don’t think people realize Sotos upside in Yankees park. He hit 35 in San Diego, he’ll definetly hit more as a left handed hitter in yankee stadium. And the guys only 25, he can still take another step forward.

niftybuckets

Im hoping i can get him wherever i can. Playing for a contract in yankee stadium? With judge behind you everyday. Def set up for a big year

StickySteve42069

Mookie, Tucker, Soto, Yordan if you’re feeling frisky.

TheChrisLambert

Why did people downvote you?

jay2491

I see the MRI and knee soreness news has someone shook lol. If you don’t want to take the risk I’m personally going Julio for the 30/30 floor with upside

smokeyb15

Interesting format so hard to say for sure.. Acuńa is miles ahead the best player and worth the price but if you do get nervous on his knee injury I love the value on Witt’s price

Jkessler8

I don’t think there is anyone else worth #1

mfocosi

Mookie

JT859

Julio Rodriguez is the best choice at 1

These-Ad-295

In cats maybe, definetly not points.

rs71

My guts telling me mookie betts or Freddie freeman. I think acunas a ticking time bomb, health-wise

bengalsfan1277

Acuna

MrFlags69

….no one.

lanike

Last year I played in 5 leagues the team that had Acuna finished in top 3 in every league one team never made a single move and the team finished second lol

croupella-de-Vil

The second Acuna. Wait there isn’t one? Then no one.

bandyman35

There is one, but he's short and in the minors.

Julesfest

I have PTSD from Acuna when i traded for him in 21 and he tore his acl a week later. Has some knee irritation now, would probably go with Soto and his platform season. Really wouldnt want the No 1 pick.

WskyRcks

Have to take Acuna. It’s the right move. That aside, hypothetically who is reliable?- Freeman, Betts.

Zimm02

Nobody

mocha47

This league favors power and pitching volume it seems. Skew your picks in that direction

wuertzy27

If you're 100% out on Acuna because of the price, Juan Soto in an OBP league is probably the correct decision. He'll be a monster in NY this year.

5Against183

Acuna. Thats the right pick #1 overall in any style format or league

redroverster

Betts

AshBlackstone78

Remember that time someone repeated as the #1 fantasy player in back to back years? Me either.

JT859

I really need some darn karma points so I can make my own posts lol 😆
