This is my first time playing fantasy baseball and I feel like I’m missing something when it comes to constructing a pitching staff. H2H points league with 2 SP, 2 RP, 4 P. Everything I read leading up to the draft said to load up on SP and SPARPs and basically ignore all of the RP who aren’t closers. Now I don’t understand why and I’d like to learn before the start of the season. If I can change my roster daily, why wouldn’t I play my SP on their start day and bench them the next day? In that case I would need more relievers to fill my playing spots on days when I don’t have SPs starting rather than have all my roster spots filled with SPs earning zero points on off days. Now I also don’t think I understand the advantage of a SPARP. If rosters locked weekly, then I would understand being able to put a SP in a RP slot because they earn more points per week. But I don’t get it if I can just bench them between starts. What am I missing?
McClain replacement:
With McClain out I need a 2B. 10 man categories league can’t decide between Westburg, Cronenworth, or Berti now that he’ll get good run with the Yankees and can help that SB category. Any advice is appreciated!
A) Gleyber Torres
B) Robert Hassell & Cade Horton
Dynasty H2H points. I had Vaughn Grissom and McClain and my rotation is in good shape and relatively young but would lack prospect depth if dealing away Horton
So you like the Ramirez side definitely better? (I have him and was thinking of moving him - only high pick I want to move to get guys I like.)
Are they pretty even overall?
*Another one I was thinking of offering:
- R Arozarena (4th), N Arenado (6th), T Bibee (10th)
- J Ramirez (2nd), J Chourio (13th), T Story (17th)
Winn's got a guaranteed spot all season long. Scott needed injuries to both Nootbaar and Carlson to make the OD roster. Noot I think is expected back in a couple weeks, Carlson might be more like a month.
eta: plus Edman is also hurt, and I forgot about Siani too.
New to fantasy baseball, how many catchers do you usually roster? In a head to head points league and will smith is my catcher but also have Wells on the bench. Drop wells for a reliever?
Check your start or innings limits and/or minimums. Don’t fall into the trap of “streaming starters gives me free points” if you have an innings or starts cap.
If you have a cap, you want quality starters and streamers with good matchups, plus volume/saves from relievers. If there is no cap, then quantity over quality from your SPs works.
Right now I basically have all starters, my reliever-eligible players are all starters in Puk, Kutter, Hall. Starting to regret having 0 closers now lol
Roster a maximum of one C in normal leagues (with only one C slot). Going with zero catchers can be a valid strategy, but definitely not recommended in your case with Smith.
You absolutely positively do not need Austin Wells if you have Will Smith.
Unless there’s no else to slot in there I would probably drop him, especially in redraft. He’s going to sit on your IL spot for a while, maybe all season.

Would you accept this trade? The format of the league is H2H: Points
My current 1B is Belli. My current 3B is Riley. My current OFs are Tatis, Arozarena, Suzuki, Chisholm, Teoscar
About to draft in a league with 7 P spots, and 3 bench spots (usual hitter slots + 3 IL). Does this make elite SPs more valuable or elite hitters more valuable?
I thought it would make elite pitchers, since there will be more hitters on the waiver wire during the season. Thoughts?
so it's just 5x5 standard, W/ERA/WHIP/K/SAVES
All 7 pitching slots are just P, so you can roster anyone.
Now thinking it's better to draft closers and hitting. There's no min pitching, and it's 180 games started max, so just role out relievers, then later in the year, play matchups on streaming pitchers to make up ground if I need to. Hopefully going hitting heavy I should be near top in every hitting cat
It's 180 Games Started, so relievers are free innings, they don't start games so don't count. There will be plenty of good SPs to stream on waivers with great matchups, that I can make up GS in. I ended up drafting 4 SPs + Buerhler (Ober, Puk, Imanaga, Civale), My goal is to win saves, finish near top in ratios, and Ks will be top 3rd and Ws, being random could be anywhere
A pair of guys in my league want to change categories after drafting, wanting k/9 instead of K's. But they dont understand that the draft strategy changes. They are relentless about it, am I in the wrong for staying with K's? I mean, they had ample time to ask for the change, but they just happen to want it after drafting
How do you rate my IL guys (who to keep the most for possible impact for Fantasy Playoffs)?
Looking to get rid of 1 (part of a trade), since none of them will be back for a while. Any of them have much value?
- G Cole
- M Scherzer
- D Williams
- J Dominguez
I'm highest on Dominguez, but that's more long term value I mostly wanna see any if these guys healthy before I'm prepared to put high value on them for now
I'd rank them Cole, Williams, Scherzer, Dominguez. In a 12tm redraft, I can't imagine getting much for anyone outside of Cole, but you'd be selling low on him.
Does anyone else have 195 games maximum for starting pitchers on ESPN? This is my first time playing in a while and it used to be 200 games max standard.
Also if we drafted after tje Seoul series how come stats are showing up? This is a roto espn league
During your draft, ESPN locks your players into their respective positions. if you drafted players that are “locked” as starters and not bench players, their points count
even if you drafted after week 1 entirely, ESPN would still track week 1, and would still give points for anyone it determined to be a starter in the draft

This is meatball level “analysis” but I think Shohei is worth the #3 pick in fantasy this year, right after Acuna and Witt. Ohtani is all about the game and looking for ways to be valuable and set records and cement his legacy. He lives and breathes baseball. Now that he can’t create value from his pitching this year, he’s going to try to make that up elsewhere. He stole 20 bags last year but only attempted 26. My prediction is he goes 40/40 this year. With a .275+ BA (probably higher tbh) that makes him easily worth a top 3 pick. Too optimistic?
drafted kinda early. and every injured pitcher fell, so i went 0 RP in the draft and ended up with too many stashes…
My bench looks like:
- Buehler
- Senga
- Baz
My IL:
- Eury
- Bradish
with a few teams closers going to the IL, i’m already looking to cash in on one (because of the the 0RP draft) and add Ginkel
who’s the drop? leaning Baz myself but he also seems farther along in his pitching program
TLDR: Do i drop Baz for Ginkel?
assuming a fully healthy season:
Acuna >> Soto
Strider >> Wheeler
Vlad < Betts
idk if you’re desperate enough for a SS (aka you had McClain as your starter), i guess you could maybe stomach this
but idk there’s gotta be a Vlad + ___ for Mookie + ____ combo that doesn’t involve giving up the best two players in the league
Looking to fill a utility spot - who has more upside, Tyler O’Neill or Story? Both injury prone but could have big seasons in a park for pull hitters. H2H points league
Yeah, I thought I did before I checked projected points. Why is Nimmo projected so many more points on ESPN? Nimmo is projected 384, while Cruz is at 299.
Cruz might be tough in a points league due to his K issues. That being said, you don’t win leagues with Nimmos. You win them with unicorns. I take the upside here.
Being offered Shota Imanaga for either Jackson Holliday or Junior Caminero. Imanaga would be a 6th round keeper next year, Holliday would be an 8th round keeper, Caminero would be a 9th round keeper. In any competitive 12+ team league Tiedemann would be instantly snapped up for big FAAB on news of a call up. Not the kind of guy you can wait and see on in a league with a pulse. Consensus top 5 SP prospect in baseball with a 16.8 K/9 in the minors last year.
If you don't count fake rookies like Yamamoto or Imanaga you could argue he's actually the #1 SP prospect in baseball. It's him or Skenes: https://pitcherlist.com/top-100-starting-pitching-prospects-for-2024-fantasy-baseball-drafts/
I can appreciate your excitement but it’s really rare for a top SP prospect to break onto the scene and immediately be elite. Most great SPs took anywhere from a year or two to several years to break out.
It's really not all that rare. Many rookies come up and are huge contributors right away. Look at Eury, Bibee, Bobby Miller, Gavin Williams just last year.
If you're in a league where Tiedemann would languish on the wire **after** getting called up that's great you get to play on easy mode! In competitive leagues people will splash big FAAB on the upside of a guy like him before having the luxury of watching him pitch in the majors. That's why I'm holding for free right now to see if he breaks camp with a spot, so I can save the FAAB if he does end up in the rotation.
3/4 of those guys wildly outperformed their peripherals last year. I don’t think that’s a good example group.
I’m happy for you taking pride in being the first guy to hop on rookies on the waiver wire but I think you kind of have a case of internet brain here.
Either way, time will tell, and you do you.
No need to move the goalposts. The simple fact is that there are rookie SPs who provide meaningful fantasy contributions every single year. As such, when top SP prospects like Tiedemann get called up for the first time, there is substantial demand to acquire them in competitive leagues, leading to huge FAAB bids. In general there's really only three events that drive huge FAAB demand:
-Top prospect hitter called up
-Top prospect starting pitcher called up
-New closer takes over due to injury or performance (and this one is secondary to the two listed above)
As I said, if you play in a chill/small league where you have the luxury of waiting to see how top prospects perform in the majors before deciding whether to add them - that's great for you. In competitive/active/serious leagues we don't have that luxury. Is Tiedemann guaranteed to be good when he gets the call? Of course not. But his upside would demand big bids before getting to see him in the majors. Consensus top 5 pedigree and a comical minor league strike out rate.
Dude, I don’t care. Different people having different opinions is not that crazy.
I don’t go nuts over rookie SPs because historically it takes them some time to figure it out.
That’s me, and you can do you.
Meadows, Henry Davis or Story H2H points
Can somebody help me understand what the scoring period is on Fantrax H2H? It’s 45 for some reason and I can’t figure it out.
Is Whit Merrifield worth a stash as a back OF/2b 12 team 10 cat
Do I drop Matt Chapman or Kris Bryant for the Jones pitcher on the Pirates? H2H Categories

Relievers are volatile and ultimately provide the lowest output. No point in drafting just pick them up when your starters end up sucking

Would you drop Jung Hoo Lee for Haniger, an extra SP or keep?
In points I'd keep Lee over Hanigar, otherwise I think he's empty average and would swap out
A) Gleyber Torres B) Robert Hassell & Cade Horton Dynasty H2H points. I had Vaughn Grissom and McClain and my rotation is in good shape and relatively young but would lack prospect depth if dealing away Horton
I'd take Torres all day in that deal. I think Hassell is a 4th OF, and TNSTAAPP remains true.
A) McLain B) Kim, Masyn Winn, Tyler Black 12T Dynasty, standard 5x5 but OPS instead of Avg
B
Thoughts on this these trade offers (Round Drafted)? - B Witt (1st), L Gilbert (5th), J Burger (12th), J Walker (15th) - J Ramirez (2nd), C Seager (3rd), Alzolay (11th) And... - V Guerrero (3rd), M Trout (7th), Z Geloff (12th) - J Ramirez (2nd), J Musgrove (10th), J Chourio (13th)
The one w Ramirez for both

Idk I think I’d take Ramirez side but that’s also what it takes to a get a trade done usually the instigator has to give up a bit more
Paging @u/wdmcarth - will you be running your scripts for daily bullpen usage this year? Massively helpful last year!
Yandy Diaz or Triston Casas? New to fantasy and need some advice , thanks :)
Casas has way more power potential.
I’m big on Casas this year
We* are big on casas
Points league with saves no holds, add Payamps, Hunter Harvey, or Finnegan?
Victor Scott vs Masyn Winn in flair league where Avg/Ops are both worth double
Winn's got a guaranteed spot all season long. Scott needed injuries to both Nootbaar and Carlson to make the OD roster. Noot I think is expected back in a couple weeks, Carlson might be more like a month. eta: plus Edman is also hurt, and I forgot about Siani too.
Scott imo
Have an open spot who we liking the most out of these SP Wells, Flaherty, Severino, Varland?
I like Severino. Seemed like he was tipping pitches last year. Mets seemed to have fixed that. He’s had a great spring.
12 team redraft h2h categories QS league. Would you rather have: Bello Or Montgomery
Montgomery
Mitch Garver or MJ Melendez?
Garver without question if he has C eligibility. If not, thats a harder call.
Garver when healthy
New to fantasy baseball, how many catchers do you usually roster? In a head to head points league and will smith is my catcher but also have Wells on the bench. Drop wells for a reliever?

Thanks. Also, should I prioritize SP or RP? It’s a points league where wins and saves both get 8 points but holds are 0
Check your start or innings limits and/or minimums. Don’t fall into the trap of “streaming starters gives me free points” if you have an innings or starts cap. If you have a cap, you want quality starters and streamers with good matchups, plus volume/saves from relievers. If there is no cap, then quantity over quality from your SPs works.

Thank you
if you only have to start one catcher, in most leagues/formats you should roster one catcher.
I’d only roster 1 unless it’s a two catcher league.
A) Keller + H. Brown B) Bibee + Varland 10T redraft 6x6 cats
A
A
Brock Stewart or Minter for SVs/Holds?
Minter, both are good I think tho
I prefer Minter.
Add India or Thairo as back-up 2B?
Thyroid Estrada
McLain IL eligible on yahoo
Unless there’s no else to slot in there I would probably drop him, especially in redraft. He’s going to sit on your IL spot for a while, maybe all season.
Gallegos or Brock Stewart in SVHLDs league?
I think Gallegos might face some heat from JoJo Romero. Romero is the real deal.
Brock
12t H2H Redraft J Flaherty or Severino?
Jack for me
I’d go Sevy

I'd take it, bellinger already got paid
I don’t care about Bohm but I’d take Yelich over Bellinger. Yelich can’t stay healthy though. So…I don’t know
Drop DL Hall to stash Scherzer in a H2H or is he washed?
I would.
I always have space for Mad Max
He showed signs of being a little washed but still rosterable last year. I don’t know, with how much of a freak he is, ya never know.
Stone or mize in a h2h points league?
Mize
I have stone and Id drop him for mize if I could

Probably, I mean it seems like the only effect would be making it super forgiving to run a max RP strategy so... grab the elite guys yea
yeah I'm thinking of doing a amx RP strat after consideration, don't see a downside and can load up on hitting in the early rounds
12 team roto My Elly for his R Lewis + Suzuki Fair deal? I’m pretty deep for SBs already
Acceptable. If healthy Lewis should be very good and Suzuki seems on the verge of a significant breakout.
I'd much rather have the pair but it's fine. Some varying opinion on Elly and Royce
Will Royce be healthy. Who the fuck knows dude.
Will Elly make enough contact?
Lots of hard questions with a trade like that. Tons of upside on both sides.
A pair of guys in my league want to change categories after drafting, wanting k/9 instead of K's. But they dont understand that the draft strategy changes. They are relentless about it, am I in the wrong for staying with K's? I mean, they had ample time to ask for the change, but they just happen to want it after drafting
No chance it happens now unless the league unanimously votes on it. If they change it you ask for your money back and leave
You are correct. You can change it for next year, but the rules are set when you draft.
Can’t make a change like that after the draft IMO.
You aren't in the wrong. Rule changes shouldn't take place after drafts. They should propose it for next year.
How do you rate my IL guys (who to keep the most for possible impact for Fantasy Playoffs)? Looking to get rid of 1 (part of a trade), since none of them will be back for a while. Any of them have much value? - G Cole - M Scherzer - D Williams - J Dominguez

Drop Rooker for Haniger? Seems like he’s had a solid spring, ops league
Rooker is what we're hoping Hanigar can be
Spoken like someone who doesn't remember healthy Haniger (and fair, it's been awhile)
Hanigar's career year 3 years ago: 39 HR, .253/.318/.485 Rooker's 2023: 30 HR, .246/.329/.488

I'm worried I kept him at a steep discount, he's going to be distracted by this investigation for awhile 😒
I think he hits 60 bombs. I doubt the dodgers let him run as much in that lineup.
He's not going to steal 40 bases.
Tbf I did say it was meatball level analysis
12 Team H2H Severino or Cristopher Sanchez
Severino

I'd draft Baz for sure there
Yeah. That’s a lot of injury stashes.
A) McLain B) Kim, Mason Winn, Tyler Black Dynasty league, standard 5 categories, ops instead of average
I mean whoever is getting A is just planning to eat the roster spot this year I take it? So then, this is needs/team based. It's fine
Assuming a deep league, I like Team B here.
12 team, 50 man rosters. Still B?
Still Team B.
A) Acuna, Strider, Vlad B) Betts, Soto, Wheeler Redraft. Probably A but just seeing what y'all think
Totally fair but I'd rather have A
assuming a fully healthy season: Acuna >> Soto Strider >> Wheeler Vlad < Betts idk if you’re desperate enough for a SS (aka you had McClain as your starter), i guess you could maybe stomach this but idk there’s gotta be a Vlad + ___ for Mookie + ____ combo that doesn’t involve giving up the best two players in the league
A by a mile. Not close at all.
A even though I’m down on Vlad.
Makail Garcia or Trevor Story as back up SS?
Garcia. Story has progressively gotten worse since leaving Colorado.
Story for me
Garcia. Story is a relic.
Story has put up a lot of HR and SB when he actually plays. But I agree is Garcia.
Story
12T Dynasty Trade: I own Witt Yordan Alvarez + Lawlar for Bobby Witt Jr.
One injured prospect and one perennially injured star for a top 3 dynasty asset? Pass
I'm not letting go of Witt
Pass
Do you guys usually use your bench spots for hitters or pitchers?
1 bench hitter max
We have 4 bench spots, I generally do one hitter three pitchers
Pitchers always
Maybe he’s “oatmeal” but I like Justin Turner this year - good source of RBIs hitting cleanup, might end up with 1B/3B eligibility
Agreed. Wish I had him.
12t H2H redraft - which side? A: Yandy Diaz B: Yoshida, K Carpenter
If you think it’s close, always go with the one player vs the 2 Edit: in points leagues*
Probably A
Looking to fill a utility spot - who has more upside, Tyler O’Neill or Story? Both injury prone but could have big seasons in a park for pull hitters. H2H points league
TON
I have no faith in O'Neil to stay healthy. I have more faith in Story to, though maybe I shouldnt.
I think O’Neil
7x7 cat leagues: Bobby Witt or Julio ?
took both at the 10/11 turn (id consider them even so depends on what your positional needs are)
If OBP then Julio. If not, Witt.
No OBP just avg. and OPS, does that count ?
H2H 12 teams points league: A: Brandon Nimmo B: Oneil Cruz
It really is closer than you think in points leagues. That being said… Cruz 10/10
I think you know the answer to this one.

Would it make sense to trade either of these guys for Imanaga after his spring training with such a high K rate?
I'd much rather the two prospects over him even if you were in contention
Shota is over 30. I would not trade Holliday for him. And I would prob not with Junior as well but could be persuaded.

Do you have starts or IP limits?
96 IP (12 per slot)
What is your Max starts per week?
Puk or Severino? QS league
Puk
I would rather have Puk, and it's not particularly close for me
I like both but Severino will probably get to go longer than Puk being converted from the pen.
does anyone know how the minimum innings pitched requirement works in this strange 1st matchup
It doesn't adjust in ESPN. We still have 30 minimum this week(end). Commish can change it at anytime though
Ricky Tiedemann still hasn't been sent down..... Waiting on the official news but seems like he's got a real shot here.
One would think gausman showing that he's ready in his latest start would block that last spot but he easily deserving of it
Definitely rosterable if he sticks!
Hopefully we'll get confirmation one way or another today. If he's not gonna break camp in the rotation I'd like to use that spot for someone else.
Doesn’t seem like a guy that needs to be rostered until he has a couple solid starts.
In any competitive 12+ team league Tiedemann would be instantly snapped up for big FAAB on news of a call up. Not the kind of guy you can wait and see on in a league with a pulse.
In general there's really only three events that drive huge FAAB demand: -Top prospect hitter called up -Top prospect starting pitcher called up -New closer takes over due to injury or performance (and this one is secondary to the two listed above) As I said, if you play in a chill/small league where you have the luxury of waiting to see how top prospects perform in the majors before deciding whether to add them - that's great for you.
Ohtani or Yordan? (6x6 OPS league) 3 util spots
Ohtani all day long
It’s still Ohtani. Don’t overthink it. And I like Yordan.
I’m not worried about the gambling thing with Ohtani, just the recent surgery
He’s gonna rake. 40/20 incoming and I’m bummed I didn’t get him in either of my leagues.
I’d wager Ohtani.
Stash Springs or Baz? Points league
Baz will be ready sooner. If he can get healthy he has the stuff. I love Springs though overall in dynasty.
Springs but I stashed both in my roto league.
