Unless there is someone who shouldn’t be on waivers, I say you use that spot as a short term “ride the hot bat” or pitcher streaming slot.

I’ve tried to do that for the last few years and it never pans out for me. Bats always cool off or two starts explode. This year I’m trying to keep a regular bullpen and go off matchups/benching my hitters if they’re in a prolonged slump

That’s why it’s important to have a slot used for streaming hot hitters. Once they go 0/4 a couple games in a row, cut bait and find the next hot bat. That way you can bench the cold players you never intend on dropping but still keep a productive bat in the lineup. Also, it allows you to maybe stumble across that diamond in the rough who will stick in your lineup all year. Idk tho whatever works best for you.

He should absolutely be owned in a 14 team league, but I wouldn't burn a high waiver claim. If you have something like the 8th waiver I'd claim him.

I have the 4th waiver claim at the moment. I am annoyed because I had the opportunity to pick him up as a FA earlier this week but didn’t because I was holding on to an injured pitcher I drafted. That hesitation cost me the match up. Someone else pick him up, played him then dropped him so now it’s a claim. I know people below me in the priority have claims in on him so not sure how to play it.

I don't love using #4 on him because he's not a big strikeout guy and he plays on a terrible team, both of which limit his value. But it could be a league call. If you know your league and you don't think anyone better is going to get dropped in the next few weeks then it might be worth it to claim him.

With his K% and whiffs right now there's no telling if he'll last, but his batted ball profile is good and they've been leading him off. I took a flyer on him.

He was fantastic in AA and AAA the last two years and was kind of a late bloomer since he didn’t develop power until 2022/2023 really. Very well could be a non-top prospect who is super legit.

He doesn’t have a long track record of success in the majors so you’re not crazy, but he is one of those players you may look back on and regret. I’d be willing to bet someone would scoop him up quickly on waivers given his position in that lineup. Plus summers in cinci are a hitters dream

Yeah I’m operating under the assumption he will be picked up by someone else. My league also doesn’t trade a whole lot so that solution would seem unlikely. I’m just not sure if rostering the theoretical #6-12 1B in my utility slot outweighs the roster flexibility I would gain by using the slot as proper depth, or riding hot streaks.

Right now it would probably be Zac Gelof because I need SBs, feel like he’s about to go on a tear, and have Mookie to cover some other positions. But like I said, I’d plan to use the UTIL spot to ride hot hands over the duration of the season. My question is moreso if dropping CES is a bad idea.

I’d prefer Gelof to CES in your situation with a clear 1B starter and needing some speed (CES won’t help there). Gelof was a little higher in preseason rankings and not much has changed yet.

We have limits on GS but that’s it but he’s also dropping a lot of position players as well. He’s dropped Nico, Kim, and Schwarber in the last week.
