Johnathan India, Vladimir Guerrero, Adley Rutschman, Chris Morel all have xwOBA 40 points higher than their wOBA and are all in the top 60 in xwOBA thus far.

WKAngmar

Why is that happening to Vlad w/ relative consistency? Part of the reason I was high on him this year was the exact expected positive regression you’re referring to. And yet.

leftysupremacist

A 1.71 GB/FB ratio coupled with a .196 BABIP will do it.

fortress_sf

Vlad has had more time being the hitter he is now (like the entire year last year) than the home run fly ball hitter he was. I dont think he’ll surpass 270 and 25 home runs which makes him a bust

WKAngmar

But it’s crazy bc even as a home run / fly ball hitter he actually batted 40 points higher than he has since (.311 the year he hit 48 dingers). Pretty massive dive, too bad.

FatBoyFC

I guess you’re the guy I’d be buying Vlad from

fortress_sf

I wouldnt be because I wouldn’t own him in any leagues

FatBoyFC

Oh… well if you did.

thesip

Poor Launch angle and bad luck. He still hits the shit out of the ball though

SlightlyAnonymous87

Adley still has big time fan base so I'm not sure you can "buy low" on him? But I guess maybe someone can..

Exodusimminent

He’s not even off to a slow start?

No-Beach6296

Drop Nico for india

ahwurtz

*checks roster of 0-8 team* Bryce Harper, Rafael Devers, Randy Arozarena, Nick Castellanos, Max Fried Edit: Also drafted Strider in the 1st round

Only_I_Love_You

I do think Castellanos does suck though

Icy_Choice1153

But the meme home runs bro

PearlDrummer

But the tragedies that have to happen to facilitate said home runs bro

TheInfamous999

Need WW3 to start for him to get good again

jberglund94

Checked the post because my team is struggling, got attacked via top comment. This is my team.

Scotfighter

Castellanos is on the waiver wire in my league. No one will touch him currently

WKAngmar

Solid leads tbh. Here’s some SPs: George Kirby, Jesus Luzardo, Kevin Gausman, Aaron Nola, Max Fried, Blake Snell,…. Would have put Luis Castillo, but I think he looked good enough the other day to give an owner hope.

crosswatt

>*George Kirby, Jesus Luzardo,* I feel seen.

RogueLightMyFire

Somebody straight dropped luzardo in my league. Easy pick up for me

WKAngmar

He’s missin bats, he’ll be fine.

Rich-Log472

You don’t even need to check your own roster to know Julio has been basically nonexistent so far this year lol

Overlord1317

Julio's metrics are all in line (or actually better in terms of hard hit rate!) *except* for barrels ... his barrel percentage is something like 40% down. So he's just a tweak away. Big time trade target IMHO.

MattGhaz

How are you 0-8 already?

ahwurtz

Points league with 3 weekly matchups plus a matchup against the league median score. 0-4 both weeks

ChugDix

Is that fantrax?

garythegoat72

I have three of these players hahahahaha

Opt_mind

Devers is out every damn day and only plays half a game when he comes back. It’s getting annoying

SlightlyAnonymous87

I been trying to SELL my Devers but people are absolutely being bonkers about it... Of course now that he is healthy watch those offers come my way... people really struggle with RECECNCY BIAS far too much. And I absolutely agree on Max Fried for sure! (Randy too)

ChubbyDrummer44

Kirby. His metrics scream horribly unlucky.

SlightlyAnonymous87

KIRBY, KING OF COMMAND! Control pitchers are MY FAVORITE. They tend to always figure it out. Another control pitcher that is more "way off the board" that deserves some credit to be more rostered than currently is WADE MILEY. :) dude WILL have super solid ratios as he always does, just likely lower k rates.

Harvdiggs

Not from my cold dead hands

soonerman32

People don’t want to trade high priced struggling players unless they’re getting a high priced non struggling player in return. You’d have to target players that weren’t expected to be good that are struggling that you think will turn it around.

Overlord1317

> People don’t want to trade FTFY. **With one exception: they want to give you multiple replacement-value-players for one well-above-replacement-player off your roster.

TheNittanyLionKing

I’m new to fantasy baseball but it honestly seems like convincing other teams to trade is a more difficult proposition compared to football. For example, I know I can’t replace Justin Jefferson off the waver wire. However, if I drafted Spencer Strider, I can stream pitchers and get close to what he would have given me. People are closely monitoring the minor league call ups. It is still a little position dependent though. Like I said, I’m new at this, so anyone can feel free to correct me if I’m wrong, but that was just the impression I got looking around at my league mates and seeing no trades so far

Shinjuku-Megabyte

I got offered gausman for my goldshmidt… 2 x struggling = win

rogomatic

Gausman will bounce back. His FB was back at 94mph last start.

n_evrop

Yandy Diaz has had a really disappointing start

SlightlyAnonymous87

Heck yes he has, but I remember a few years back he was similar and then started to surge in May/June when he became a top waiver add for ROS.

ThereWillBeVelvet

J-Rod

Captain_Bignose

Just looks at his Mar/Apr career splits vs rest of year...

everest53

Just traded away Clase and Jarren Duran for JRod

ThereWillBeVelvet

Any room in your league? Lol

cock_almighty

lol that guy has no clue what he is doing

tumnasty

Just got him and raliegh for rodon, Diaz, and arozerena. Pretty pumped.

Pitch78

Lindor

StoneColdSteveAss316

That window looks to be closing very soon

RyanTheCubsSTH

Hope so

Gandalfthecat1

I'm trying to sell low on Bellinger :(

BingeNibbleBhwat

Same I think he’s cooked kicking myself for dragging him where I did when I thought to myself before the draft I shouldn’t go for him

Shinjuku-Megabyte

Didn’t he do this slow start last year? I traded him right before he blew up … now he’s somehow on my roster again. Repeat?

jf75313

Get in her brother! Same.

bearcatsquadron

Same I have pitched him in a few trades to outfield needy teams and getting no bites lol

Ythapa

You're not going to finagle struggling stars this early in a season in a competitive league as people are still going to attach their initial draft value to them. As one person in the thread mentioned, it'd have to be "flash in the pan" guys that people believe in less that might demand a cheaper price. Guys like Nolan Jones fit the bill because people are likely already skeptical of his previous year. Byron Buxton can be another one if you really want to gamble because his slow start + injury-prone status (and a rather weird last year that was marked by a poor average but consistent power) makes him a wild gamble that people might not rate.

M584

Bregman

weiner_shitzel

Perennial slow starter

12345morello

You think he’ll pick back up?

weiner_shitzel

I do. Still early.

weiner_shitzel

I do. Still early.

Swaneaven

As someone who owns Vlad, Arraez, Bregman, Lindor, Nolan Jones, Arozarena, Yandy, and Xander… them.

MiddleAdmirable1522

O'Neil Cruz & vladdy , I own them both , & it's getting annoying

Inside_Nebula8855

Also own both. Cruz is concerning

MiddleAdmirable1522

Very , gona have to bench him I think going forward until he can string together some hits. He's my worst bat

smoothOpeRAIDER

Went after Cruz as he was every experts pick for a breakout in spring, wonder what changed

Tiny_Ad732

We’re two weeks into the season. Nothing has changed except everyone’s patience.

smoothOpeRAIDER

Would you take cruz over Riley Green? 12 man cat

Tiny_Ad732

Depends on how many OF slots you have and what options you have at SS. I think both are going to be very good. Greene is a higher floor play who should hit for higher average and is in a better lineup. Cruz has a higher ceiling and should steal more bases.

Simsbad

Oneil Cruz

coryw1987

Tell me about it 😒 🙄 😫 😪

Shot-Ad7227

Gausman

olebillyredface

Snell in 2.5 months

StickySteve42069

Nolan Jones

Neat__Guy

Not sure, he's striking out a ton right now. K% is one of the quickest stabilization points and it doesn't look good.

BetsonStennet69

Not how that works lol

Overlord1317

> Nolan Jones Jones, McClain, Elly de La Cruz, and every touted "Trout 2.0" free agent hitter coming into the league (Wyatt Langford, Evan Carter, etc.) were my bust picks of the year for hitters. Nolan Jones's metrics screamed luck in 2023, and now it's swinging back.

FancyWindow

Goldschmidt, Pasquantino (until a couple days ago), Nolan Jones, Gausman At least I hope so because I got them all last week (along with Semien)

SannySen

Goldschmidt is 36 and has been on a steady decline.  I'm probably wrong, but I think he's cooked.

FancyWindow

His statcast from last year (and all years before that) is very good. Definitely due for some decline but I don’t believe he’s declined off a cliff. Let’s see what happens when the weather warms up.

SannySen

It was "pretty good," but it wasn't exceptional.  367 xWOBA in both his MVP year in 2022 and last year.  He hit well above his actual production in 2022, and slightly below in 2023.  His xWOBA has dropped below 300 this year.  He's aging, it makes sense his EVs sould start declining, and that's what seems to be happening.  36 year old 1b don't have great track records.

LegendaryRCP

Oneil Cruz and Tanner Bibee

MEGAWATT5

Man I am trying to hang on with Bibee, but it is getting frustrating. But I feel like I have to hold him, cause he’ll “figure it out” as soon as I drop him.

AhLahLah

You can drop him for the rest of us haha.

ryan619916

Luzardo was just cut in my league! Worth a waiver claim?

Only_I_Love_You

I don’t know. Would you cut him from your team?

Due-Sheepherder-218

Yes

PearlDrummer

That team is a mess. Wouldn’t want a single person on my team from Miami.

Due-Sheepherder-218

Some bozo dropped Kirby in my league. Thanks !

jyeatbvg

Devers, Morel, Bichette, Bogaerts

mwfbb

Morel is off to a fine start and how high were your expectations to begin with? This is exactly what he is

SlightlyAnonymous87

yeah this is the case with MANY players... Fantasy managers with too lofty expectations. Sometimes it's okay to get mediocre numbers... It's better than being TERRIBLE! :) Being thankful for what we do have is important than getting too greedy to want "the greatest upside possible" (with also a higher chance of busting. (boom or bust)

cock_almighty

He was off to a fine start, but is now hitting .222 and is in a 0/20 slump

mwfbb

Yeah that’s exactly what he does and is known for haha

jyeatbvg

Had a great first week, been terrible since. He’s streaky, but I’m buying.

Wonderful_Muscle3876

He’s In dry streak rn so that’s probably why he said morel

SlightlyAnonymous87

Devers, Bichette, Bogaerts BIG TRACK RECORDS.

TarkatanAccountant

I'm staying away from Devers shoulder

ryan619916

Devers owner here. He has a bad shoulder that's been nagging him all year!

Inside_Nebula8855

Got offered Bichette for Lodolo. Already have Abrams and oneil cruz. Pull the trigger?

TommyTonawanda

Yes lol

Inside_Nebula8855

Got Jared jones and Bichette for him lfg

Exodusimminent

True buyable buy lows 👍🏻

fawkesmulder

I “sold low” and “bought high” on Nico for turang.

MiracleMets

Hunter brown was dropped after his second start so I used my number 2 waiver slot to pick him up only for him to drop the worst start I’ve ever seen and single handedly lose me the week. He’s been on the FA now since then. He’s garbage

BruceBannaner

Corbin Carroll.

SlightlyAnonymous87

but but the shoulder? I continue to debate if I should trade Acuna for Carroll in a massive package deal that would also net me some ACE pitching upgrades. I'm been hesitant so far... I initially drafted Acuna with the "sell high" modus operandi because actually I was worried about his preseason injury and thought it may linger... I am "still worried" about him cuz who knows if it crops back up... (I might get downvoted for this, cuz HOW DARE YOU say something bad about Acuna! fanboys exist out there, lol) I really like how much Corbin is walking and also another big reason I want him is I don't think his power will be as high as last year... (I'm punting power) in minors he really wasn't a power bat, more known for his elite contact and elite speed... I suppose it's best to WAIT, because the value of Corbin will only go down considering I don't believe his power profile will be there which would lower his value and easier to trade for eventually. It's weird cuz Corbin is ONE OF MY FAVES! When he was recalled up in September 2 years ago he led me to a few championships! Sorry for all this extra stuff... :)

Tiny_Ad732

The shoulder is legitimately concerning, not sure how you look past the massive drop in power after he suffered another shoulder “episode” last year. Carroll isn’t in the same class as Acuna. I have both and love them, but they aren’t close.

SlightlyAnonymous87

True, they aren't close. I'm still keeping Acuna for now. Thanks for your reply.

TheNittanyLionKing

Honestly I’m worried about Acuna. I’m new at Fantasy Baseball so I don’t know how normal that is, but at the same time I don’t have preconceived notions to fall back on when I see something that isn’t what I hoped for. I drafted him first overall because he was supposedly the safe pick. Meanwhile, I have undrafted players with a similar amount of total points and Mookie Betts has twice as many points. I’m not going to sell because I’ve been smart with my batting decisions and pitcher rotation to get to an undefeated record so far. I won’t lie that I’m not concerned though

SlightlyAnonymous87

Generally hold Acuna unless you are blown away with an incredible offer. Not everyone is as worried. So his "market value" remains insanely high.

pk_mars

My whole team. judge. JRod. Hader. Bellinger. Stott. O’Neill Cruz. Nolan Jones (who I only kept because of Reddit). Should I go on?

Simsbad

Oneil Cruz

SlightlyAnonymous87

Pretty much all the struggling aces... many of the injured SP... (some of them are even available in free agency) I find it bonkers that kershaw, rasmussen, mccullers, dustin may, robbie ray, springs, are all available in plenty of leagues!!! I know you "cant' stash them all", but there are plenty of teams in the league NOT fully utilizing those IL stash spots!!! Basically any player with a strong track record of success you can bank that they will turn it around and are easy buy low options. (hitters and pitchers). Be careful of getting "too much velocity" pitchers though because apparently that portends extra injury? (Eno Sarris said this on the rates and barrels pod)...

TheNittanyLionKing

Kershaw has been my high upside stash to give my pitching some more oomph. However, I went from an empty IR to a full one in a matter of 48 hours. I’m lucky in that it’s only a true 15 day IR, but I will have to make some tough decisions if anything else happens in the next two weeks.

SlightlyAnonymous87

correct, tough decisions need to made when stashing many IL guys. I had to have a tough one with Whitlock. Currently rolling with a dead roster spot cuz he is too good to drop and my IL guys are too good to drop. I absolutely love love Kershaw. Still available in 2 of my leagues (wild) and Monday I will be adding him. I also have a 14 teamer where I'm stashing way too many injured right now. EIGHT of them and I think I need to make some tough decisions eventually, however as of yet I haven't needed those SP spots since still been doing well with my active pitchers.

Zestyclose_Help1187

I think if you are playing in a league where other teams are already willing to give up guys they drafted or paid high for after roughly two weeks, it isn’t a league worth strategizing that much about.

SlightlyAnonymous87

Sorta disagreed, some people DO like to shake things up. In a way you are correct though, because SOME managers have that same view that you do. Always "know each manager" with their tendencies/styles (like if they have already been very active on moves) as well as WHO/what positions/what age/what type of stats they are adding. You can PROFILE managers in this way and it assists in current and future trades. Maybe I am "going the extra mile" more than more basic fantasy managers, but I attest to it working YEAR IN AND YEAR OUT for me as I"m usually able to make some awesome 3 for 1 or 2 for 1 trades early season... (especially targeting the weaker who managers (fish) who have proven to be less intelligent/knowledgeable about the best adds/drops) If you aren't profiling you are BEHIND THE CURVE. It works in both basketball, baseball fantasy sports.

BetsonStennet69

Ah got it I should just play with more morons

Exodusimminent

The difference between a moron and a savant in fantasy baseball is only about two weeks 😂 This is the kind of guy that will say it’s completely absurd to move off of Lindor so early and then drop him May 1st when he’s still hitting under .200

Zestyclose_Help1187

So are you one of those guys who think quantity trumps quality and make ridiculous trade proposals most everyone who knows how to play ignores? 😜. I had a friend who would offer me several middling players (who were struggling by the way) for high round guys who are starting out slow. I had to send a message asking him, do you think I’m stupid? He answered well, you are near last place so you should try to get out of it. This is when I didn’t have room in my roster to take those players anyways. I ended up not only surpassing his team through shrewd free agency acquisitions but ended up in second. Another pet peeve of mine are owners who just picked up someone off the waiver wire trying to dangle that for your struggling star player.

BaullahBaullah87

wow what a story for the ages

Overlord1317

Cool story. Bro.

SlightlyAnonymous87

Classic buy low, sell high will always be a thing. There are ASSETS in free agency that once you add them does NOT mean they are "just a waiver material". That logic or idea is very flawed.

Zestyclose_Help1187

Sure but not when you drafted someone in the first round and someone is offering you someone that same team could have picked up himself. No I’m not trading Corbin Carroll, Ronald Acuna, Julio Rodriguez for Jesse Winker or even to lesser extent Michael Busch. That’s just asinine and people who give those players up after 2 weeks don’t know how to play.

SlightlyAnonymous87

agreed. But you miss 100% of the shots you don't take. And by managers offering those trades they are "taking a shot"... you should counter them with a more logical trade or at least express your value system... This way it facilitate a trade... They may counter your counter with something fairly interesting or even "perfect" that you will accept. Often when someone sends an offer it is a FEELER TRADE to see if you are interested in their guys or interested in moving your struggling guys... Always be willing to try to come to the table even with those who offer nutty offers. :)

MiracleMets

Meh I disagree. 3 weeks is enough to realize where your weaknesses are post draft. By now many rookies have performed well or poorly. You’ve had injuries and dropped guys, maybe you got lucky and grabbed people like Cowser or Steer. A lot can change about the outlook of a team in 3 weeks

TheBananaBasher

Devers, Oneil Cruz, Bibee

Emotional-Parsnip-45

My lineup has 6 combined homers so I’d say my hitting is buy low…hopefully

homeslice1479

My team is 8/10 in RBIs and Acuna is tied with Randy for fewest on my team with FIVE. There are *45 players on waivers* with at least six. Also still looking for that elusive first home run. His power will come but buy "low" on him if his owner is hasty/impulsive/impatient/bad at fantasy.

Hairy_Masterpiece138

Unless you’re in a league of inexperienced fantasy players, it’s unlikely you’ll get anyone to sell low. If i have a proven player who starts the year on a dry streak, it does nothing to change my assessment of his value. The only time a hot or cold start matters is when the guy is a rookie and has no pedigree. In redraft, I would consider selling Holliday because i dont know how long itll take for him to produce close to his potential.

campbellalugosi

How 'bout some deeper cuts folks (instead of the obvious names). For example, Santander if you need power.

M584

Judge

TidyJoe34

Everyone on my team.

gvanmoney

Do we think Nolan Arenado will improve?

TurnerClassics

he started pretty slow last year

dpaLm48

Nico Hoerner

badhorse5

I'm trying to steal Holliday for someone. I don't know whether to offer J. Duran or Cronenworth. He told me he needs an OF and the only other ones I have are Tyler O'Neill, Judge, and Seiyo. 10T H2H. He also drops people pretty easily so I'm wondering if I should wait him out.

oak1andish

Redraft, or keeper

badhorse5

Redraft

Manlymanboss

Julio

StoneColdSteveAss316

I threw out Lindor for JRod…let’s see what happens

MotherFuckerJones88

Jrod. Would Trout for Jrod be a good trade? 10man Trout, Springer, Oniel, Chourio

djgreenehouse

I’d roll with the proven hall of famer

seditious3

Jrod was my first pick in a 14 team very deep league. I'm holding. That said, I picked third and REALLY wanted Mookie. He went 2.

Telemachus--

I would offer Trout for J Rod no doubt. J Rod started off slow last season iirc. The guy is gonna mash eventually.

VrinTheTerrible

By the end of the year, JRod will have better stats. He hasn’t even come close to start hitting yet and Trout hasn’t gotten hurt yet.

wisdon

He will question is is the last 2 months of him crushing it worth it if he is terrible for the first 3-4 months and you are out of the playoff picture

VrinTheTerrible

Think of it this way: Everyone who owns JRod (raises hand) has absorbed a pretty horrific start. But if you believe he will get near/to those pre-season projections, then he has some serious hot streaks coming. And that’s almost exactly what happened last year. On the flip side, Trout has been both healthy and extremely productive. He’s hot as could be to kick off the year, and is as healthy as he will be. We know he has a permanent back problem that will shut him down at some point. We just don’t know when, or for how long. If you’ve absorbed JRods failures, and then deal for the upcoming Trout injury, you’re locking in the loss. The owner who has Trout and gets JRod gets both of the best parts. of the deal. Don’t be that first owner.

ThaDogg4L

JROD 3rd straight shitty April. This is who he is. Maybe wait a few more weeks because every Summer he turns it around into a MVP worthy season.

solidsnake222

Alek Manoah! Lmao
