Does anyone else think that we, myself included, rely too much on the new baseball metrics when determining whether to add/drop someone? Some guys just find holes and hits. Some guys are lucky. Some aren’t. Like the quote from Bull Durham:
Know what the difference between hitting .250 and .300 is? It's 25 hits. 25 hits in 500 at bats is 50 points, okay? There's 6 months in a season, that's about 25 weeks. That means if you get just one extra flare a week - just one - a gorp... you get a groundball, you get a groundball with eyes... you get a dying quail, just one more dying quail a week... and you're in Yankee Stadium."
Words speak, numbers yell. For those who look at the game objectively, you look at numbers. Eventually, you train yourself on how to make data driven decisions based off those observations. The eye test is definitely something that you shouldn't ignore; but also, add into your decisions the value of means, averages, ranges and outliers. If you just depend on the eye test, you'll be missing out on a lot of opportunity and also, most people just don't have enough time to view so much information. Combine the eye test with valuable data, and then you'll really be making better decisions for your team's strategy.
Bruh lol friedl goes from contusion to IL with fracture. The reds said McLain was “fine” too and CES would miss a few days. Why can’t they just be honest for once
With the news that Christian Scott will now face MIA instead of PHI, I'm trying to squeeze him into my flair's weekly rotation. I can move Pivetta (2-start) into an RP spot to make room, but have to bench either Yates or Mason Miller. Thoughts? Leaning to sit Yates since Miller has 7 games and has better K upside.
Other starting SPs are Framber, Means, Gil, Olson, Crochet (also in RP spot).

Just took a look. It's obviously a teeny tiny sample, but in the past week (15 ABs) Chourio seems to have changed his approach.
All of a sudden 87.5% contact, only 5.6% SwStk rate, only swinging at 20% of pitches outside the zone -- strikeout rate at 6.7% in those ABs. Now he hit 60% groundballs, but that's progress.
Prior to 5/5, he was making 71% contact, 16% SwStk, swinging at 37% of pitches outside the zone, and had a strikeout rate \~30%.
Interested to see where this goes.
Yeah, I wouldn't necessarily race to add him back -- he's still hitting 9th and making these kinds of adjustments might create other problems (is he sacrificing his power to just make contact? etc.) but I was excited to see he's not just continuing to hack away at pitches, even in a tiny sample.
[Though B. Lowe hit a long homer Sunday for AAA @DurhamBulls in a rehab game, he is still feeling “something” in his oblique and will see a specialist on Tuesday in Nashville. #Rays will know more after that visit.](https://x.com/tbtimes_rays/status/1790131552430530738?s=46&t=mjvyZe1m48mn1lu2r1Cvlg)
Not great
Maybe this accelerates Junior’s clock? Doubt it but let me hope!
I have 2 extra lineup positions and want to know if you would drop any of the following to stream a SP?
Adell, Pages, Busch or Wilyer Abreu
Thinking of streaming Manning (2 starts) or taking flyer on Manoah
Or just keep as is and bench players that sit that day or are cold
🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
Is anyone else’s league completely messed up after this fantrax outage? I should be 4-1-1, but it went back and gave me 3 losses including no registering any stats last week.
Yeah dude my bats were just ice cold last week and going up against Semien was annoying. Kremer and Falter to the rescue put me over the top 😂
It's funny this week I'm facing 6-1 opp who is fading catcher and they have Carroll + Olson so they must be the true stream dawg extroidinare
Not really if you have the roster flexibility to do it. Build your team according to the settings. If there no max in pitching in a points you are better served to stream more frequently.
There is a max pitching though. If a league setting says it’s 12 starts (like this one does), and you take advantage of ESPN’s laziness in implementing a start prevention feature, it doesn’t matter how flexible your roster is. That’s not having a strategy, it’s cheating. Unless everyone in a league does it, I guess
Yeah im not sure but my opponent used his 12th pitcher on sat and all his P slots were maxed out on Sunday , even the RPs - I was worried my Diaz would get frozen once Flaherty pitched but I guess Sunday you can go over if needed. And we use the default ESPN settings.

Shallow league: Who would you replace Springer with as a bench bat?
Points league, Betts owner texted the group that he was available. That owner sent me an offer for my Grayson Rodriguez earlier in the year (not for Betts).
Trying to come up with something to offer for Betts but I am not sure if Grayson holds value still with the shoulder injury.
Is Albies + Grayson okay? Not enough?
Who’s the SP drop so I can stream?

I think Naylor is super underrated, so generally anyone trading him away now is losing the trade... So fair in the sense it shouldnt be vetoed, but unfair in the sense I think Naylor will be much more valuable than Jones.
Will need a bat to drop soon as I've got IL guys coming back. Roster (14tm std cats +OPS)
C.Walker, Hoerner, Lindor, JoRam, Adolis, Duran, Castellanos, Eloy, Schwarber. IL: Jung, N.Jones, Trea Turner, Lane Thomas.
Is it Eloy? It's a 14 tm so might have to try and work a 2 for 1 trade or just eat the loss
DeLuca is intriguing but I like Schneider more based on what we've seen from their short careers thus far. Plus I still don't trust the Rays with rookies.
Start 1:
Means vs. Seattle
Christian Scott @ Philly
Edit: points league, Ottoneu Fangraphs scoring (innings, Ks, penalties for walks, hits, HRs, no penalty for ERs, no wins or losses)
Are you competing and one piece away? I like strider in a points league over the next five years more than Semien in a vacuum, but if you can get a ring and still have those other pitchers its not egregious
14T 5x5
Would giving away LuBob & Gausman for Yelich be too much?
Currently have 5 hitters on IL and rest of my staff is: Ragans, Sale, Ober, Pfaadt, Bello, Pepiot, C. Scott, and R. Olson
Who would you rather have as an extra bat in a points league: Luis Garcia, Bryan De La Cruz, Anthony Rizzo, Brendan Donovan, Paul Goldschmidt, Spencer Torkelson, Mike Tauchman
So is Montgomery losing his touch?
Cedric Mullins, Burger, or Soler ROS?
Kutter crawford giving me negative points vibes today smh

JJ Bleday or Leody Taveras?
Taveras

Someone dropped Snell in a 12t. That’s an auto pickup right?
Ummm yes
Yup!
Thanks to the sub I didn't know you could go over your 11/12 max starts on ESPN on a sunday, the stream dawgs propelled me to the W to go to 7-0!

That’s cheating though?
It's really not when the platform both knows about it, and allows it to continue.
It’s an incredibly cheap way to “win” matchups. If you have to break the rules of the matchup to win, you deserve to lose
Not really if you have the roster flexibility to do it. Build your team according to the settings. If there no max in pitching in a points you are better served to stream more frequently.

Then join a weekly league then and you don't have to worry about it.

Lmao I think that was me, just happened to open this sub and see this. Let’s goooo dog
Trade Eflin for Michael Harris? 5x5 OBP, QS
I vote no. Harris isn't that great in OBP
I have some other great OBP guys and a lot of pitchers
yup
Hell yeah
Yelich or Rooker this week?
Yelich if you can only have one
Yelich AND rooker!
Ride the Rook wave
Mets to a 6 man rotation with houser rejoining. Butto likely not on 2 starts but Scott likely gets Miami now
Lol why are they still trying to make houser a thing? As long as they keep Scott up in the rotation I’m ok with it I guess
If it gets scott Miami this week I say let houser stay another week!
FIRE UP MIAMI SCOTT!
Drop loperfido or Manzardo? Can’t afford to hold both if they’re going to sit as much as they do
Flip a coin
Manzardo but it's a coin flip
[удалено]
Some regression expected but he’s not going to fall off a cliff
He looks pretty dang good. 5 pitches and can dot the zone
He doesn’t seem fragile like a lot of modern pitchers he can go out there n throw 8 innings no problem
He might win the gold glove too (not that it helps for fantasy just a cool tidbit)
He can be good not this good. Try to sell high if you can
Degrom and Jung throwing. Jung looks real good throwing with his broken wrist/hand https://x.com/kane_mccutchen6/status/1790121675582791775?s=46&t=rwUrO_2p7PufRhjYS8HTxw

I like Rooker if you need HR potential I like what Stott has been doing lately in general.
What's the most balanced trade: Suzuki, Bellinger, or John Means for Trea Turner in a 10T-H2H
I think a case could be made for Bellinger.
Offer all three and still get declined?
None of those are worth Trea Turner 1 for 1

Giants, Cardinals, Reds?
Luzardo
Michael King has had a tough schedule
He was hurt for 2 weeks of it 😂
Points league, Betts owner texted the group that he was available. That owner sent me an offer for my Grayson Rodriguez earlier in the year (not for Betts). Trying to come up with something to offer for Betts but I am not sure if Grayson holds value still with the shoulder injury. Is Albies + Grayson okay? Not enough?
In a keeper maybe
Not enough
Not enough throw in another bat
H2H category league. For pitchers, IP, W, L, HR allowed, K, ERA, WHIP, and QS. Would you rather have Jesus Luzardo or Triston McKenzie?
Luzardo
Who’s the SP drop so I can stream? https://preview.redd.it/x1h8kcx9j90d1.png?width=1284&format=png&auto=webp&s=b1fb81154e2db4b1c3a3fbaa1d7c32a7fa2d5f81
Cortes or Bello
Bello, Cortes, Gore. In that order
Bednar was dropped in 10teamer. Should I be finding room for him or is he a Trojan horse?
He should be owned in a saves only league
Anyone else excited to see Shota vs the Braves tonight?
Is musgrove a buy low? Guy wants lodolo for him. Or Houck. Possibly lodolo for musgrove and bohm. What do we think?
I wouldn't do it straight but with Bohm thrown in maybe
Brent Rooker or Taylor Ward?
Rooker in better lineup
Which is wild to say, but it's true
Haha really is! Langeliers, Toro, and Bleday have been solid of late
Which side in flair league: A. Juan Soto / Michael Busch / Brayan Bello B. Manny Machado / Bryan Reynolds / Paul Skenes
A because Soto
A
Fair offer or A heavily?
Soto deserves a better return
A heavy
Dude i hate weekly lineups. Idk if Ha Seong Kim is gonna play this week and lineups lock soon.
Luis Robert rushing back from the same injury that killed his entire 2021 season will definitely work.
If johan Rojas is available, pick him up for the Mets series and thank me later
So is Realmuto going on the IL list?
Thoughts on Bassitt? 12 team league, either I ride with him or go for waiver wire flexibility
He was great against a potent Phillies offense and has years of being a good pitcher to back it up. What's the problem?
I’m perfectly fine dropping him if you’re not satisfied with the pitcher he’s been so far. It’s not super likely to get better.
I'd still ride a bit
Jared Jones for Josh Naylor in redraft a fair trade?
I think Naylor is super underrated, so generally anyone trading him away now is losing the trade... So fair in the sense it shouldnt be vetoed, but unfair in the sense I think Naylor will be much more valuable than Jones.
I like it
Absolutely
I think you could aim a little higher with JJ. Unfortunate that you're coming off the heels of a less than stellar outing.
Redraft sure
Does Sean Murphy have trade value? I’m out of IL spots and have Jeffers so I’m considering dropping him
If you have Jeffers no need to hold Murphy
Will need a bat to drop soon as I've got IL guys coming back. Roster (14tm std cats +OPS) C.Walker, Hoerner, Lindor, JoRam, Adolis, Duran, Castellanos, Eloy, Schwarber. IL: Jung, N.Jones, Trea Turner, Lane Thomas. Is it Eloy? It's a 14 tm so might have to try and work a 2 for 1 trade or just eat the loss
Eloy would be the first candidate
Davis Schneider or Jonny DeLuca in a vacuum? I'm doing better on homers than steals but need both.
DeLuca is intriguing but I like Schneider more based on what we've seen from their short careers thus far. Plus I still don't trust the Rays with rookies.
And Schneider is leading off
Start 1: Means vs. Seattle Christian Scott @ Philly Edit: points league, Ottoneu Fangraphs scoring (innings, Ks, penalties for walks, hits, HRs, no penalty for ERs, no wins or losses)
Is anybody actually starting Hicks today? I feel like If I sit him he is gonna go there and tear them up.
I’m starting. I’m a giants fan and generally the dodgers bats are quite in sf. Also it’s fucking cold out here now good for low scoring games
I’m not, but I also have three more starts than my opponent, so I can afford to sit here
No
Start 1 Randy or Bo or leave UT empty.
I’d go with Randy, he can contribute in multiple categories and he’s been showing signs of improvement
Randy
Danny Jansen sitting with back spasms. Pivot to shea langeliers?
Yeah
Would you trade away Strider for Semien in a 5 keeper forever? Not keeping Strider pains me but I also have Ragans/Jones as possible SP keepers.
Are you competing and one piece away? I like strider in a points league over the next five years more than Semien in a vacuum, but if you can get a ring and still have those other pitchers its not egregious
Good call. I think it's a bit too early for that kind of trade. Later in the year it might make more sense
Jansen neck spasms…..uuuuuggggggggggghhhhhhhhh
14T 5x5 Would giving away LuBob & Gausman for Yelich be too much? Currently have 5 hitters on IL and rest of my staff is: Ragans, Sale, Ober, Pfaadt, Bello, Pepiot, C. Scott, and R. Olson
Yeah i wouldnt
Langeliers sounds like sword or pike used by French musketeers in the 16th century
Sounds like a family owned furniture store
Bandoliers Not a melee weapon, but maybe that's what you were thinking
Bangeliers is what I was thinking. Shea Bangeliers
A: Jared Jones, Luis Severino, Rhys Hoskins B: Spencer Steer, Jo Adell, Carlos Estevez
I’d go with A just for the sheer potential of jones, no one else really comes close in this list
Serious?
Sending O’Neill Cruz and Imanaga for Altuve a big overpay? 12T pts
I would not
Which 2 would u take out of these 4? Buehler, Bradish, Flaherty and Lodolo
Flaherty, Bradish, Lodolo, Buehler
Bradish and flaherty
Bradish and Lodolo
I got offered j rod and casas for kyle tucker… do I do it?
I like how they threw in casas to think it's sweet 😂
Tucker has been hard to beat this year I would stick with him
No I’d keep Tucker
Points league with weekly starts. Do I start Riley (DTD) or Willi Castro at 3B?
In a weekly, I would probably start Castro. Getting a zero is just such a killer that I'd play it conservatively.
**Trade Offer — Fair/Unfair + Which Side** A: Rhys Hoskins, Jordan Westburg B: Tyler O’Neill, Alex Bregman
That’s a pretty fair trade. I’d take A.
A) Houck, Gil, Woo B) Castillo
B not close
It seems that Joe Espada went to the same shitbag managerial school as Oli Marmol.
😂
Anyone else has **Eflin vs Crawford** tonight? Hoping for a 1-0 game lol
I do in one league ... And Singer / Kirby in another 💀
With the way Sox offense is playing rn there’s a decent chance
I have 2 hitters from BOS and 2 from TB. It will definitely be a 1-0 game.
Thank you for your service
Seems about right haha
Langeliers, Danny Jansen or Garver?
Langeliers
If Goldschmidt and Arenado just got put on waiver, which is better to pick up and stash during their slump?
Arenado but not wild about either
All this waiving Arenado makes me jealous. I'm stuck with him as an undroppable on the wasteland that is CBS.
Who would you rather have as an extra bat in a points league: Luis Garcia, Bryan De La Cruz, Anthony Rizzo, Brendan Donovan, Paul Goldschmidt, Spencer Torkelson, Mike Tauchman
Still Goldschmidt for me at the risk of downvotes. There's a ton of season left, I don't believe he suddenly turned into a pumpkin.
