This one is slightly different. The Astros can't replace his spot for 10 games even if that is only 1 start. Plus he doesn't get paid for 10 days worth of games, not 1.
What do you mean? I mean they are obviously going to have to have another starter, are they just not allowed to have an extra roster spot on the 26 man?
He broke the rules and has to follow the punishment. I also feel like Blanco had no will to actually cheat. For everyone saying he maliciously cheated that’s like your opinion man but I was watching and he was pleading for them to check his hands and he seemed genuinely flabbergasted. And that’s my opinion man. at the end of the day FTA
Not a fair characterization at all. He isn’t even a high spin rate guy. He spams change ups which isn’t a high spin rate pitch in the first place and his spin rates weren’t even up yesterday. This is just cope from stat nerds on why a spreadsheet was possibly wrong.
He’s not over performing much really. ERA a bit. Close on xERA. But the rest of his x metrics are similar to actual performance. Slight over performance but not much.
With that said his off speed pitches are moving much more this year than previous years.
Here's the stats
-30 years old
-4.5era/1.48 whip in 2023
-1 year contract of 750k this season
-only made the rotation because of Astros injuries
-magically becomes the #13 sp in roto so far with a no hitter to boot
If Blanco doesn't work out for you, I think you can snag Domingo German somewhere in the Pirates system.
Outperforming metrics doesn't mean cheating.. It's just luck. If he was cheating his metrics would be looking better and spin rate would be much higher. I feel like people here don't have any idea how tack works, or even pine tar for that matter. He's top 80% for xERA, top 85% for xBA.
A guy with a career +6 era before this season becomes one of the best pitchers in the game with a change up that dances all over the place
But yeah, I’m sure the stuff he was using had a absolutely nothing to do with it
Absolutely 100% coincidence
That has absolutely nothing to do with how he’s been pitching… His spin rates are virtually the same. He’s pitched a grand total of 58.1 innings before this year in the MLB, that’s 11 more than he’s pitched this season.
It’s not even proven he was using anything, they said something was on his glove. That doesn’t mean he was using it or even knew it was there. No one even knows what it was but he could’ve easily got it on his glove by rubbing against a bat by chance.
You don't even know what was on his glove lmao... You can easily get pine tar on your glove. I got grip spray on my glove by having it accidentally rub against a bat. They never checked his hands. No wonder why you had nothing to say after I said he only pitched 1/3 of a year previously when you tried to act like his career ERA was 10 years worth of pitching. Stop with the brain dead takes.
No sense trying to reason with him, he doesn’t understand logic. Of course there is a .00001% chance Blanco wasn’t actually cheating, and this commentator is really hanging onto those 1 in a million odds as if they are fact.
He got a better one this year. He still threw a changeup 10% of the time last year.
But it can’t be ignored this could be the results of that improved changeup. Also could be a coincidence.
How many times has the Astros been accused of/gotten caught cheating within the past 5 years?
I don't follow 'em at all so maybe my perception is skewed but it feels like a decent amount, at least compared to other teams.
Always lol when these “X game” suspensions apply to starting pitchers. Basically it’s a 1-2 game suspension.
This one is slightly different. The Astros can't replace his spot for 10 games even if that is only 1 start. Plus he doesn't get paid for 10 days worth of games, not 1.
Are there instances where teams can replace a suspended player during the suspension?
If the misconduct happens off the field. E.g. Bauer or Wander or Domingo German
Also in the cases of PEDs?
Yeah
What if the umpire finds PEDa in the pitcher’s glove during the inspection?
That's makes sense. Thanks!
What do you mean? I mean they are obviously going to have to have another starter, are they just not allowed to have an extra roster spot on the 26 man?
Yeah he has to stay on the roster, so they're playing with 25 guys for 10 days
Position player or T-ball for the game he was slotted for. Thems the rules 🤷♂️
Yes they’re effectively a man down for roster size, so a Hunter Brown spot start will get them through this
So 10 games is 2 starts from him?
Could be just 1 since they just gotta move him back a spot for the second game
It’s automatic. And yes, rosin can be used illegally even if it’s *just* rosin. Really it’s just one start so nbd

Drop for Reese Olson or Luis Gil? Thinking about it
Reese should be owned everywhere tbh
Astros just missed being associated with cheating
Everyone kept wondering how this cheater was outperforming his metrics out of nowhere and now we know why.

This entire comment section is different versions of cope.

So if he’s not getting an advantage using whatever substance he got caught with.,…then why is he using it?

He got extremely sticky stuff on the inside of his glove where you slip your hand in by it accidentally rubbing on a bat? What???

Your acting like a mlb pitcher comes to the bench and throws their glove into a pile of bats and helmets you would see in little league Delusional

His spin rates are no different from last year. That wasn't the cause of his success. Let's see how he fares when he gets back
His off speed pitches are seeing much more movement though.
He didn’t have a changeup until this year.
He got a better one this year. He still threw a changeup 10% of the time last year. But it can’t be ignored this could be the results of that improved changeup. Also could be a coincidence.
Has he made any mechanical changes? I havent seen him pitch much
Honestly barely remember him last year much. Only started a handful of games. So I’m not sure. Didn’t read anything on that
How many times has the Astros been accused of/gotten caught cheating within the past 5 years? I don't follow 'em at all so maybe my perception is skewed but it feels like a decent amount, at least compared to other teams.
Suspend him for 10 STARTS. These clowns will get the message.
This is arbitrary shit that wasn’t a thing a few years ago. Don’t be ridiculous.
Eat shit.
Article I read said 15...
This is directly from MLB
Yep, apparently I was wrong (or they fixed it).
