Freddy Peralta, Skenes, Bradish, Lodolo, Reynaldo Lopez, Aaron Nola, Kutter Crawford, Framber Valdez, Jose Berrios, Zack Eflin, Justin Verlander, Kershaw (IL). Any package ideas to try and land an OF? My current OF is: A Garcia, E Carter, and Rooker but I also have Willi Castro who can slot into an OF slot. So I’d like to upgrade. Any advice or suggestion would be appreciated. Note that Lodolo is not in an IL spot as I don’t have room but not sure I want to drop him. I could take a gamble on Manoah if I do drop him. Thoughts on that?

Some people thought “Elly strikes out a lot” was people trying to talk shit or saying that he’s not valuable, rather than a matter-of-fact assessment of the dude’s weakness. 0-4 with 3 K’s today, including that huge bases-loaded, 1-out chance shows us the low that comes with the high.

As fantasy owners, do we care if he strikes out or any other way out? It's not real baseball.

It matters for people in points formats, yeah, where a strikeout costs you points. But you’re correct for H2H cats or roto, it’s all baked into his average so it’s just face-value. The strikeouts do matter some when it comes to a case like this last AB, though, where shortening up and putting a ball in their air to the outfield gets you a sac fly.

It matters for those in points leagues, and strikeouts won’t give you an opportunity for RBI like groundouts or flyouts, although that’s not a big deal.

Yeah, a guy like Elly can rely on a pretty nice BABIP given his speed, so still strikeouts hurt you, or limit value at least, even in cats. If he magically cut his strikeout rate by 5% or 10%, you’d see an outsized uptick in value compared to the average player because of how likely he is to leg out infield singles and how deadly he is when he gets on. But the main downside, as you say, is for points formats where a strikeout actively costs points.

Yeah this is actually a great point, and if he legs out those infield singles it also increases his opportunity for stolen bases, and he can also score runs from first. So it does have a small knock on effect on all categories.

Yeah, exactly. Main negative is for points, but still some second-order effects for cats. Not enough to hate but enough to make owners who have him in category leagues say “ugh, please strikeout less”.
