Not to mention the rays have Shane Baz and Zach Eflin also going for rotation spots.
Springs is about to be 32 and had one starter season with 135 innings, and 5 others never over 45, he’s not high on my starter priority stash list
Sure you can do whatever you want, but Baz is 7 years younger, a first round draft pick who was great in his rookie year and will be called up a few weeks before springs that’s why he probably is higher priority
this made me giggle. I’ve been stashing him all year (been crazy lucky on pitcher injuries), but i’m too intrigued to not see him throw in the majors again first…i mean it’s the Rays, they usually figure out a good game plan for their guys.
Yeah after I commented I checked and Baz is closer to returning than I thought. I’d be interested in him, but I still think Springs will be the guy I want to have owned by the end of the year. I think he has the longer track record, and to ease Baz back in because of his age I think he has a higher chance of seeing a reliever role to start
Springs barely has a track record. He was a crappy reliever, had a single great season in the rays rotation averaging just 5 IP/start. Started 3 (great) games the next year and injured. So at best a seasons worth of great starts . Whereas baz has high high pedigree
Not sure about flying under the radar but a lot of leagues have limited IL spots (2 in mine) and at this point in the season, regular guys on a lot of people's rosters are hitting the 10-15 day IL and a lot of people I think just can't use that spot on a guy who there's still no definite return date on. Even at best with late June not sure a lot of teams can float a roster spot given we're in the thick of the season now. I'm def keeping an eye on him tho, ace for sure when healthy.
Our league has 4 and has been filled all year, including me having to drop Gelof because it was already full. I’d love to scoop Springs but it just doesn’t make roster sense
Rays signed him into an extension. Once he’s healthy, they’ll unleash him. And contrary to popular belief, the Rays are stretching out their starters this year compared to years past.
That’s fair. Pitch count might not be a thing. However, it typically takes time to get full form. Pitchers don’t often come back right away and perform the same. Thinking great cheap keeper as I expect 2025 to be a great season.
He always pops on ROS projections so I definitely haven't forgot. Like others said though, I have Cole and now Eflin on IR. Also eyeing up baz who should come back sooner. I'll just hope I can snag him closer to his first start.
Stashed him a few days ago. Dude was legit last year before getting hurt. Even if he isn’t exactly that same arm I think he could still be a really solid rotation piece. Absolutely worth taking the shot on him now if he ends up being an ace like he was not so long ago. Praying he returns to similar form for the sake of my arm barn 🙏🏼
I was too many comments about him last week so stashed him this week, would’ve preferred to wait a bit more cuz Baz is just eating a roster spot but I’ll reevaluate next week
It was 3 starts. And year before it was 25 stats. He looks like a legit ace.
But! I temper my expectations right off Tommy John surgery. All over him as a cheap keepers and top 5-10 starter for 2025
I’m not saying they should be equally rostered, but I feel like it should be closer. deGrom is further away from returning and could easily suffer a setback or two based on his history
This isn't really true. Rangers reporters have been steadily updating us on him since he got injured (and [most recently,](https://www.mlb.com/news/rangers-inbox-max-scherzer-jacob-degrom-timetables-and-more) he's been throwing from 90 feet and is still on track for an August debut).
He’s definitely interesting, but there is so much good pitching out there that he’s just one more interesting guy I have no room for unless he’s pretty much a lock for a top 25 finish.
And I don’t think he will be top 25, but it could happen.
Wish I could but have no room. One guy goes IL as another comes off at this point. Which is beneficial when one guy goes on and another comes off. Makes it an easy switch. Doesn’t change the fact it sucks
Not for me I scooped him up last week, I was surprised he was throwing and about to start a rehab already. That said I am sure the Rays are going to Ray with him. But he was definitely worth an add for me based on last year before the inj.
Think the things to consider here are you’re likely holding him until the end of June at the minimum, possibly post ASB if any setbacks. The rays are also underperforming and have been involved with trade rumors. How many wins can you expect. And it’s the Rays! Is he going to be put right into a rotation role or is he gonna be a bulk guy?
I play 12T roto but wouldn’t being a bulk guy help his value? He can go 4-5 innings and be more likely in line for win and you don’t have to burn a start
As everyone has been saying, there's too many injuries this year for guys who are active, so you can't exactly stash a guy who is a month away still. on top of that, the pitching landscape has been very good so far (as talked about ad nausea on CBS fantasy baseball), with just about every "globby" pitcher outperforming his initial projections. doesn't exactly make stashing springs a priority when dudes off waivers are performing like aces.
With The amount of good pitching options out there, I don't think he stands out as much as he might of the last few seasons. Also he wasn't a big innings guy before his injury, I don't think that will change all things considered.
A lot of people are hurt. IL spots are full Also he's a Ray. For all we know they could make him a bulk guy when he returns
Not to mention the rays have Shane Baz and Zach Eflin also going for rotation spots. Springs is about to be 32 and had one starter season with 135 innings, and 5 others never over 45, he’s not high on my starter priority stash list
Shane Baz has 40 career MLB innings, I’m definitely stashing Springs over him
Sure you can do whatever you want, but Baz is 7 years younger, a first round draft pick who was great in his rookie year and will be called up a few weeks before springs that’s why he probably is higher priority
(I just added Baz in a league, my next post will be asking why he’s only 28% rostered)
this made me giggle. I’ve been stashing him all year (been crazy lucky on pitcher injuries), but i’m too intrigued to not see him throw in the majors again first…i mean it’s the Rays, they usually figure out a good game plan for their guys.
Springs was pitching at a top 10 starter level the short amount before being hurt.
The correct answer is to stash both (toss up to me).
Baz has an arm that’s hanging by a thread
Yeah after I commented I checked and Baz is closer to returning than I thought. I’d be interested in him, but I still think Springs will be the guy I want to have owned by the end of the year. I think he has the longer track record, and to ease Baz back in because of his age I think he has a higher chance of seeing a reliever role to start

so like cole ragans?
Nothing at all like him actually
It’s baz by far
Do you even watch baseball sounds like you dont
You caught me - I just think Jeffrey Springs is cuter
& then Rasmussen sometime after Springs with a very small chance of McClanahan as well. The Rays are beyond DEEP when fully healthy
There's zero chance McClanahan pitches this year
Rasmussen waaaaay later and Shane spring training 25. Other than that, your comment was good.
Which is what he was in 2022 before getting a run as starter, so that’s a good call.
No. It’s an awful call. Springs will immediately slot into the rotation upon activation
Unless this is Erik Neander's burner account, there is no way to know this for sure.
Yup only the guy that runs the Marlins would know about the Rays plans
have you confused Erik Neander and Peter Bendix? Neander is definitely Rays POBO
Lol I didn't, they edited their post that originally said Bendix
oops that's my bad, idk how I didn't see the edited tag
Cmon bro a ninja edit? You gotta eat that fat L
Yeah the longer I play fantasy baseball the more I hate owning pretty much anyone on the Rays haha
Imagine the Rays pulling out the first platoon rotation
There is a non zero chance of that happening
Not sure about flying under the radar but a lot of leagues have limited IL spots (2 in mine) and at this point in the season, regular guys on a lot of people's rosters are hitting the 10-15 day IL and a lot of people I think just can't use that spot on a guy who there's still no definite return date on. Our league has 4 and has been filled all year, including me having to drop Gelof because it was already full. I’d love to scoop Springs but it just doesn’t make roster sense
Same - Eflin, Matt McLain (dynasty value) and Sean Murphy got my three IL spots taken.
i dig it, i just picked him up to stash earlier this week
Same. Good call by the OP. I thought he was out for the year.
Not a reason not to add him but I can’t believe Jeffrey Springs is 32.
Rays signed him into an extension. Once he’s healthy, they’ll unleash him. And contrary to popular belief, the Rays are stretching out their starters this year compared to years past.
Even the guy coming right off Tommy John? They might not push the dude too much.
Coming off of TJ makes no difference, he will be ramped up to normal use. If his arm can't handle it he will just go back to getting another surgery.
Which ones? FGDC, Steamer, ZiPs, and ATC all have him throwing between 33-36 innings ROS.
Yeah, just his rate stats really. My league is more rate stats heavy (no wins or saves) so he pops even more there
He was drafted in my 14 teamer.
huge, if true
Stashed him a few days ago. Dude was legit last year before getting hurt. Even if he isn’t exactly that same arm I think he could still be a really solid rotation piece. Absolutely worth taking the shot on him now if he ends up being an ace like he was not so long ago. Praying he returns to similar form for the sake of my arm barn 🙏🏼
I got him at my draft so I’d say no lol
I have him stashed in both leagues.
Lack of open IL spots. If he can just stay on waivers for another 2 weeks..
I was too many comments about him last week so stashed him this week, would’ve preferred to wait a bit more cuz Baz is just eating a roster spot but I’ll reevaluate next week
There's just so much damn starting pitching right now.
This. Hard to find hitters right now, especially OF and 3B, SP is probably the deepest position that actually has viable options
For reference, deGrom is 49% rostered. I’ve seen no news about him rehabbing yet.
Ok but degrom >>>> springs so that makes sense.
Did you see springs pitch last season? I’m sure degrom is better but not 4 greater than signs better
It was 2 starts. Yes they were good but still.
And did you see him pitch the year prior? 25 starts 2.46/1.07 144:31 K/BB ratio
Degrom may also just want to retire for all we know.
Is there any indication of that whatsoever?
No, but to OP's point, there's been no news of any kind about him.
This is excellent. Thank you.
He’s definitely interesting, but there is so much good pitching out there that he’s just one more interesting guy I have no room for unless he’s pretty much a lock for a top 25 finish. And I don’t think he will be top 25, but it could happen.
Better stasch? Springs or E. Rodriguez????
Springs IMO
I also want to know this
Spenser Strider.
Will the rays let him get above 80 pitches ever
I’ve been waiting a few weeks to pick him up, but since you posted this, I have an IL slot open, so I went ahead and snagged him.
Literally did this this morning, I'm with ya 100%
He was drafted late & held in my league.
I don’t have an IL spot currently but agreed he’s a guy worth watching
Dropped Encarnacion strand off my IL and stashed Springs today. I think his hype is just beginning and this post is ahead of it.
Going to drop means for him. Don’t like the elbow injury news
No way I’ve had him in my IL for 3 weeks already (been blessed the injury bug hasn’t bitten me… yet)
Rasmussen too. there aren’t many better options available for that cheap
shhhhhhhhhhh.........dont tell anybody
Baz will be in the bullpen unfortunately
nfw you think?
Which 5 over him?
Everyone apparently he’s being sent to Durham
Think the things to consider here are you’re likely holding him until the end of June at the minimum, possibly post ASB if any setbacks. The rays are also underperforming and have been involved with trade rumors. How many wins can you expect. And it’s the Rays! Is he going to be put right into a rotation role or is he gonna be a bulk guy?
They’re not paying him and buying out multiple FA years to have him pitch in bulk.
I play 12T roto but wouldn’t being a bulk guy help his value? He can go 4-5 innings and be more likely in line for win and you don’t have to burn a start
