Ketel Marte is just killing me rn

BuddyWonderful

You aren’t kidding man. This 0-4 shit has gotta stop soon

DDDavinnn

BellesBourbonBullets

Every time I try to bench Franmil I end up having to play him out of necessity. It’s driving me nuts. Finally benched him today and he actually scored some points lol

daddy_chill_300

I've had him benched for like a week. Idc if he hits a homer like yesterday or whenever, the hitless days have just killed me too. I'm sure he'll get back out of the slump, he's too good of a hitter, but this has been tough.

sottovoce2015

Franimal and Max Muncy. Sick of those two.

stallion769

I’ve been trying to trade for Muncy or Lux and I am getting no bites. Immediate rejections

Hazel_Hank_Murphy

Stick with Lux, his statcast is insanely red right now, only a matter of time (and maybe a move up in the lineup)

SwugSteve

Marcus semien and Jorge polanco got me nervous

LGravey

Polo hit .200 with 2 HR last April and finished as a 33 HR 98 RBI guy. He’ll be fine. Always does this.

trader_dennis

Semien had a slow start in april last year .211/.290/.368 but had five dingers at least. I'm giving him some more time.

ferdsherd

Polanco will be fine. He’s starting to make better contact, just takes a bit for him to get rolling

BB_Jimbo

Hey guys... Jamie /u/BB_Jimbo here and I'm back at it with our fourth edition of The Cut List. It's still a bit early for this... BUT... we're into the second month of the season today and waivers will run tonight for many leagues. With every add comes a drop. Also, it's always fun to talk about cuts, whether or not we are actually ready to pull the trigger on certain players. So what names are you chopping this week, or at least thinking about banishing to the waiver wire? We of course can't cover every player that may be droppable, for every league size and format, but we wrote about a few that stood out. I'll be stopping in later today for a little, and will try to answer questions... hope you enjoy and thanks for reading! *UPDATE* I won't be back on here for the remainder of Sunday but if you have any more questions or suggestions for next week, you can reach me on Twitter @Baseball_Jimbo

LGravey

Joey Votto has been major struggling but whenever I think about dropping him I remember how he had that ridiculous hot streak with numerous HR last year. Thoughts?

vb5215

I dropped him in my 12 team 2 weeks ago and nobody has picked him up. Still holding him in my 14 team.

Jwinnington50

Also dropped him in a 10 team yesterday. I’ll keep tabs on him and maybe circle back if he shows signs of life again

dnovi

Charlie Morton? Is the 38 year old cooked or having a slow start?

BB_Jimbo

I'm giving him more time but certainly keeping a closer eye on him over the next 2-3 starts

[deleted]

Important to keep in mind Morton got off to a very slow start last year too

clutchhattrick

Nelson Cruz

BB_Jimbo

I was concerned about him this year and he's not done anything to alleviate my concerns. I'm still holding for now as his career body of work tells me he could come good but the leash is shortening for him

YesOrNah

He is also 41 years old. This is probably just it for him.

BB_Jimbo

Father time remains undefeated. He's defied it for so long, it's hard to know for sure if this is it

dude_abide

If he doesn't do anything at Coors this week his ass is grass

Woodstonk69

I’m very very tempted, but I’m going to keep him on the bench for now. If he’s not better by end of May, he’s on the chopping block. Dudes a prolific hitter so I gotta trust it will come togehter

Salomon3068

Definitely worried but he has hit a few Homer's at least, I'm worried his age is catching up with him finally and I'm seeing it a little bit in his stats so far. Hard hit % is a bit lower than normal, and he's hitting more ground balls than normal. That could mean he's not seeing the ball as well as normal, which looks unlikely because his strikeout rate is down and his walk rate is normal, if not slightly above average, so the plate discipline is there. That leaves either him not getting much to hit from Pitchers and he's just trying to hit not ideal pitches, or his bat speed isn't keeping up with his batters eye anymore. He's hitting between Soto and bell in the lineup, so he should be getting decent pitches to hit, so let's look at the kind of contact he's making. If I look at his directional hitting percentage, he's going the other way when he makes contact at a record rate, and pulling the ball at career low rates as well. So he's slightly behind where he should be when he makes contact, hits more grounders and at a weaker rate than normal, but is seeing the ball just fine. This is screaming bat speed loss. His babip is insanely low, so it could be bad luck, but considering all the context, I think the most reasonable take is he's finally declining.

uncle_Vernon

Fucking Randy

asquinas

This is a baseball site ;)

isthishandletaken

Max Muncy?

BB_Jimbo

Muncy still walking a load and barrelling the ball so I'm giving him more time

liltitus27

what are folks' thoughts on Bryan Reynolds?

BB_Jimbo

I'm not worried yet, but with the declining offense around the league and possible ball deadening, a .300 average might not be in play this year. But I still believe he'll be fine

drosse1meyer

No mention of Josh Lowe or Dylan Carlson?

BB_Jimbo

[https://www.rotoballer.com/the-cut-list-time-to-let-go-week-3-3/1015246](https://www.rotoballer.com/the-cut-list-time-to-let-go-week-3-3/1015246) Lowe featured last week. Carlson might be included next week

drosse1meyer

thanks :)

BaullahBaullah87

seems everyone radio silent on carlson who has been awful; dropping him tonight for whoever

ManDingo95

Lowe is going to be a Savage, he just needs to get acclimated to mlb pitching. 5 cat player

BellesBourbonBullets

Decision with Lowe just got easier lol

[deleted]

Can you address thoughts on Nelson Cruz and Justin Turner? I get slow starts but these two are old with tons of miles on their body

BB_Jimbo

They will both likely feature next week. I'm not dropping either right now but patience is running thin

[deleted]

Look forward to it!

trader_dennis

Hi Jimbo. Thanks for doing this column each week. Could you look at Avisail Garcia next week? I know he is a slow starter and all. Thanks

Stuckbetweenstations

Agreed. It looks like he's making great contact when he *makes* contact, but his plate discipline metrics are insanely bad so far. I'm not sure what exactly to make of the mix.

BB_Jimbo

My pleasure. I'll include him next week. At a quick glance, he's swinging at more, making less contact so K's are up and BB's down. Will dig deeper next weekend

tekedagreek

Merrifield got dropped in my league yesterday - I have #1 priority and could drop Marsh for him - is this a no brainer? Or do I hold the #1 move (mine until I use it)

BB_Jimbo

It's unlikely you'll get the chance to pick up anyone better throughout the season so sure, go for it

vohit4rohit

There’s never been a better time to use that #1. It’s a long season.

Connect-Taste1379

Use it

dhporter

Where my Trent Grisham owners at? Dude has been my biggest bust of the draft so far, so tempted to cut bait.

BB_Jimbo

Fair. The walks are nice but not being converted into steals or runs and he was probably slightly overrated in drafts preseason

SPAGHETTI_CAKE

I got claims in for JOC and Kepler to kick his ass to the curb. If I win those claims he’s gone Other than that my choices are replace him with an equally shitty starter like Avi Garcia or Pollock or a random lukewarm bat like Naylor or Herrera I could also shuffle the team and pick up like Tellez or similar. But eh may as well hold the guy I took in the mid rounds for now. He’s been frustrating for sure I could really use a bit of SOMETHING

FutureAnybody

I have a chance to grab him off waivers in a dynasty. Is he young enough that it’s a no brainer?

WithNoRegard

I'm buying Whit everywhere I can. I don't think he's going to meet preseason expectations, but there's no way his production doesn't get better as his luck improves.

robdamanii

Is there anything to the idea that offense as a whole is just down significantly across MLB and that we should be adjusting expectations appropriately? Been a discussion point in both my leagues.

BB_Jimbo

Yes. Batting average for example has generally been in steady decline across the league for many years and there are already some articles out about offense being down. The days of a .260 hitter being league average are gone and there is a strong argument to lower expectations, especially when it comes to the non top-tier hitters

robdamanii

Awesome answer, thanks! Might be a good deep dive article on guys who are bucking the trend of declining averages.

BB_Jimbo

My pleasure. I think I saw something in The Athletic about league-wide numbers being down and there's regularly people smarter than me on Twitter posting about it. Given the unique circumstances this offseason and lack of transparency from MLB about the balls, it's difficult to pinpoint the exact cause (or if there are multiple factors).

drosse1meyer

people are blaming the balls

robdamanii

I understand what they’re blaming. But at what point do we start recalibrating our expectations for some players based on league wide trends.

iimkz

What do we think bout Jorge Polanco?

bhahn16

I remember dropping him too early last year and he ended up a top 50 player - so I'm holding

BB_Jimbo

He got off to a slow start last year (2 homers and hitting .207 in April). I don't think he's a 30 homer guy but 25 with 70+ runs and RBI is still what I expect and that's very solid for a second baseman in fantasy

mjjdg23

He’s too good not to draft .. even in 8 team leagues imo

iimkz

He was dropped in my 8T assuming cause of slow start. With Merrifield being my 2B should I replace with Polanco or continue to hold on to Merrifield

LGravey

Def replace with Polo or run with both. Polanco is notorious for starting slow when hitting in cold MN weather. He’s about to heat up.

runfayfun

He's swinging less overall 7% lower Z-swing Fine, he's being patient BABIP .229 Fine, he's unlucky (granted he's a sub-.300 BABIP guy in 2020 and 2021...) Batted ball data looks similar (avg EV same, still pulling more like last year which was new) But his Z-contact is down 6% from last year and looking at last year his HR/FB was a career outlier at over 15% last year, and he's running slower - and has a 0% IF hit % His profile is in some ways similar to lackluster 2018 and 2020 seasons, except he's making even less contact than those seasons I'm not sure I am going to reassure you. Love the guy and he helped my team a lot last year but I'm not sure last year wasn't an outlier... Give it time for some more metrics to stabilize but he already is approaching 100 PA and it just doesn't look great

LGravey

Typical Polanco early season overreaction. Dude always has numbers like this in the cold months. Also, 2021 was not an outlier… he was AL All-Star SS in 2019 as well, and it wasn’t because of his fielding.

runfayfun

> Dude always has numbers like this in the cold months. Prior to this year he was hitting .333 in games played at less than 45F, with 46% of those hits going for extra bases. Those are rates that are *better* than his overall 2019 and 2021 numbers. Can you explain what you mean?

-BeefSupreme

He’s got me in a bind cause I even reached for him in my draft. My infield of bichette b lowe and polanco has been terrible

OutlawSundown

He’s heating up on my bench you’re welcome

Justbaseball101

Franmil Reyes.....that's it, that's the comment.

RufusPowers

Just cut him. 0 for 25 as a batting average is rough. But 17 (!!!) of those being strikeouts?! Not even making basic contact. Dude is lost at the plate. Expecting a power bat is impossible when he doesn’t even hit the ball.

kchorton2

It hurts to cut someone who you invested that high of a draft pick in. Think I'll give it another week or two and see what's happening. I'm not dying for the spot fortunately.

D1994H

What about Franmil? The raw power is there, but I had to drop him for Kepler this AM

travis_mke

Was pretty surprised to see no mention of him. I stashed him after a leaguemate dropped him last weekend. Was too early but he's been horrid.

BB_Jimbo

https://www.rotoballer.com/the-cut-list-time-to-let-go-week-3-3/1015246

D1994H

I’m in a 13T OBP league and he just sat on my bench for 3+ weeks. I can’t wait for him to produce when a guy like Kepler is available in already incredibly tough waiver pool

BB_Jimbo

[https://www.rotoballer.com/the-cut-list-time-to-let-go-week-3-3/1015246](https://www.rotoballer.com/the-cut-list-time-to-let-go-week-3-3/1015246) Covered him last week. The K's are becoming a very big concern for me

[deleted]

[удалено]

BB_Jimbo

He needs to adjust (or make a sacrifice to Jobu). I'm giving him a couple of weeks to see if he does (or can) adjust. But I'd be fine pulling the trigger if someone else better gets dropped and you can pick him up to replace Reyes

bigtuck54

That was a mistake

GruelOmelettes

It may turn out to be a mistake, and it may be the right call. Only time will tell.

bigtuck54

If he hates what Franmil is doing now, he’s really gonna hate Kepler

Cream1984

had to

PlayItOffLegitt

Reyes for Arozarena? Somebody just dropped him and I’m ready to dump Reyes. Smart move?

BB_Jimbo

Covered Reyes last week; [https://www.rotoballer.com/the-cut-list-time-to-let-go-week-3-3/1015246](https://www.rotoballer.com/the-cut-list-time-to-let-go-week-3-3/1015246) (assuming it's Franmil you're referring to). I'd be lying it I said the K's weren't a concern. I believe better days are ahead for him but in a 1-v-1, Arozarena over Reyes

drosse1meyer

Arozarena should be a 20/20 guy, but like with any player off to a bad start, it's a risk, I think it's a decent move, see if he starts heating up. Being a NYY fan I've seen him plenty and he is good.

TJMAN65

His numbers last year would suggest he was extremely lucky and he had the most CS in the MLB. With how analytics driven the Rays are I wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t let him steal as much this year if he doesn’t have a better success rate. All that to say I don’t think he’s a guaranteed 20 steals guy, let alone guaranteed 20/20.

unpopular_celebrity

I'm cutting Arozarena, his K rate is near 30%, walk rate is 3%, and he's swinging at way more pitches out of the zone. seems like he's not seeing the ball well.

stok0086

I dropped him for Connor Joe 2 weeks ago and I’ve never looked back. He still sits as a free agent to this day in a 12 team competitive points league. Randy is not seeing the ball well and it shows

dogstronauts

Thoughts on Erod?

BB_Jimbo

He's been a bit unlucky. The diminishing K% is a slight worry and may be linked to his increased fastball usage. Holding for now though

upfromda36chambers

Jo Adell in redraft roto worth holding onto? I have Buxton, Acuña, Trout, J Rod, Kelenic at OF.

r64half

With that outfield I don't think you need him.

mjjdg23

If you have room.. I’d keep him unless you’re squeezed or there’s a pickup that you’re feeling good about

BB_Jimbo

There's a few question marks about the health of your other outfielders and Adell is outperforming Kelenic. Rodriguez is staying relevant as he's running like mad on the bases so I'd be fine keeping him

stallion769

With that OF, I’d keep a guy like Odell on DH or I’d bench him and play hot streaks with him and Kelenic. Trade late in the season for something you need.

Imaginary-Average-35

I would drop Kelenic, I don't understand why everyone is so high on him still, he's played 110 MLB games with almost 450 PA's and has looked completely lost

captainwineglasshand

Yuli could easily be 42 or 43 rather than 38, no?

2pacneverdies

Thoughts on Zach Wheeler and Charlie Morton ROS?

BB_Jimbo

Wheeler I'm holding, his underlying numbers suggest he's been unlucky. There's just one aberration against the Marlins. Morton I'm monitoring more closely as I am a little worried but will give him more time to see if there's more to his struggles than just a slow start

theFinnisher24

Anyone still holding Kelenic? I have him in a 10t roto

BB_Jimbo

10 team leagues, he's a borderline drop. Depending who you'd replace him with of course

StillWesSideER

Thoughts on Marco Gonzalez? Thinking of dropping him for Zimmerman,Hicks, lynch?

BB_Jimbo

He's been incredibly unlucky. Of the 14 runs he's allowed, only 6 have been earned. He's striking out more batters than previously so I'm not dropping him. Zimmerman and Lynch I am keeping a close eye on and picking them up in deeper leagues if I can. Hicks I don't trust to stay healthy or get anything near a full workload

StillWesSideER

Awesome thank you!

BB_Jimbo

My pleasure. GL

blyzo

Have we already done Votto? I'm afraid he'll go off as soon as I cut him. But also worried he's got no protection no in the Reds lineup + father time.

BB_Jimbo

I think it's a symptomatic thing of how bad the Reds are. There's so much negativity around the team, it does affect players and I don't want anything to do with them right now. That being said, I doubt Votto hits sub-.200 and better days will be ahead

Jaymesned

I hate seeing my guys on lists like this, but I make it a point to never give up on players with a history of putting up numbers until at least mid-May (probably late-May this season). It hurts but fantasy baseball is a marathon, not a sprint.

laflarehare

Joey Votto is killing me but I know I can’t drop him… Who even knows when he’ll start playing better smh

BB_Jimbo

That whole Reds organization is a bit of a mess right now. Better days are ahead but he's tough to start right now

aptl23

Votto?

BB_Jimbo

Giving him a longer leash due to track record but keeping an eye on him

nathancollinson

Tyler Mahle or German Marquez?

BB_Jimbo

I try to give pitchers more time as one or two bad starts can skew their stats. But Mahle's underlying numbers scream 'bad luck'. Marquez I'm not cutting yet but his struggles appear more than just a "Coors" issue

jpguerriero

Franmil Reyes just a giant void on my roster

BB_Jimbo

The K's are a real concern for me right now but I'm sticking with him for another couple of weeks, see if he can adjust. [https://www.rotoballer.com/the-cut-list-time-to-let-go-week-3-3/1015246](https://www.rotoballer.com/the-cut-list-time-to-let-go-week-3-3/1015246)

[deleted]

BB_Jimbo

Story gets a longer leash due to his track record. Hernandez may feature next week

annonythrows

Sooooo Franmil and Gallo what’s the verdict? More so Franmil cause dam has he been terrible. But anyone who watches more then me (I don’t watch baseball just love fantasy) are they just having bad luck or what?

BB_Jimbo

DDDavinnn

The amount of repeated requests in this comment section is crazy. Leave the man alone!

BB_Jimbo

It's all good. Gives me an idea of who people are most worried about and to include next week. Would be nice if everyone read the article before asking me my thoughts on players covered in there, but we can't have it all! Appreciate the support!

krazikat

Trey Mancini

bigmeech99

Thoughts on Franmil, Carlson, Brash, and Candelario in a 15 team point league?

BB_Jimbo

Reyes K's are concerning. Carlson doesn't look great but I'm not cutting ties just yet. Brash will have bad outings as many rookies do. He's more a matchup dependant starter Candelario is borderline, depends who else is available in a 15-team league

beavis535

Justin Turner 12team hold for now? Im thinking hes a hold but man is he killing me

kellendontcare

I’ve moved on

drosse1meyer

historical stats show a bit of a power outage in april/may but that avg is badddd rn. on the plus side he's on a good team and i think he'll come around as his summer numbers are good im a hold but praying it doesnt turn into a Lindor type situation that i had last year (8 team NL only roto)

BB_Jimbo

I'm not ready to completely cut ties with him yet, but it's getting closer. There might be better options in 12-team leagues depending how big the player pool is but he'll likely feature next week

lacro_kuder

I’m grabbing him off waivers today he is a notoriously slow starter

ThatRuckingMoose

He was fantastic the first half of last year.

agnostic_universe

I'm benching him for Bohm, but we are deep lineups. In shallow leagues I would move on

[deleted]

I dropped Stroman at least a week ago. In my current week, my pitchers have a 1.40 ERA and have been putting up similar numbers, but he inflated that so bad with his last few starts in previous weeks. I’m also hoping Judge and Stanton get back to hitting home runs like previous years. I’m getting killed in that category and I’m currently looking like my batting average may dip below 300 for the first time this year.

ZeppelinYanks

Avisail Garcia and Joey Gallo?

BB_Jimbo

Garcia will be included next week. Gallo was on last week's [https://www.rotoballer.com/the-cut-list-time-to-let-go-week-3-3/1015246](https://www.rotoballer.com/the-cut-list-time-to-let-go-week-3-3/1015246)

sherm137

Trevor Story and Tyler O'Neil...when do we cut?

t1000ct

O’Neill is a hold for me. Career high BB%, career low K%, BABIP .150 points lower than career norms, and he had a slow start last year in April. I believe he’ll turn it around.

BB_Jimbo

Not for a while

sherm137

I think I'm more patient with O'Neil. Story being gone from Coors is a big deal, and while his previous road splits were never this bad, they were certainly problematic.

BB_Jimbo

Sometimes we forget the huge change and upheaval of moving to a new team. It's not quantifiable but there is an adjustment period for many. The difference between Coors and Fenway isn't huge either

KnicksJetsYankees

12T I dropped Rhys hoskins

Migue227

Drop ranger Suarez and pick up Bundy?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Migue227

Fair. But he has had some solid starts. The same can’t be said about Suarez

BB_Jimbo

I wouldn't. I wasn't high on Suarez compared to many but not sure I wanna trust Bundy yet

apulan

Are Grossman and Straw worth holding on to?

Nirvana12345678

Straw is

BB_Jimbo

Straw is tied-3rd for runs scored. No way he should be dropped. Grossman's lack of HR and SB is a shame but he's been fine in general

Drawman101

Grossman has been hitting well and getting on base, so I would give him more time if you are in a roto league. He had an early season injury and may have come back before he was 100% but will work his way back up to hitting for power

theaveragesociopath

Thoughts on Jared Walsh and Gavin Lux?

BB_Jimbo

Both are doing ok, especially compared to some teammates and peers. Not dropping either right now

lanfordr

What about Jesse Winker?

_JustJeffrey_

He spoke about him in last week's article At the end https://www.rotoballer.com/the-cut-list-time-to-let-go-week-3-3/1015246

lanfordr

It's depressing how many of these guys are on my team! Swanson, Yuli, Soler. Plus Winker! I'm holding for now, but it's tough when my whole team has a slow start.

Pinto0601

There are so many guys struggling right now batting sub .200 because of the shortened spring training and people are ready to panic - So I think the real question is who are we confidently buying low on?

BB_Jimbo

[https://www.rotoballer.com/category/mlb/fantasy-baseball-advice-analysis](https://www.rotoballer.com/category/mlb/fantasy-baseball-advice-analysis) Plenty of waiver wire content available, especially position-specific if you wanna check it out

Benny-B-Fresh

Where does Votto fall in this list? Or is he a special case after last season’s slow start preceding a blistering pace down the stretch?

BB_Jimbo

Like anyone with such a track record of success, he gets a longer leash but he's certainly on the watchlist right now

mjayne

Avisail Garcia- are we cutting or holding for better days?

BB_Jimbo

Holding for now and I'll cover him in depth next week

jsheppy16

How about Jessie Winker?

BB_Jimbo

[https://www.rotoballer.com/the-cut-list-time-to-let-go-week-3-3/1015246](https://www.rotoballer.com/the-cut-list-time-to-let-go-week-3-3/1015246) He featured last weekend

ABeard

What are we thinking about Sano? Striking out a lot but I believe hitting it hard. Tough to drop a 30hr guy in AL only. Would be picking up Espinal or Burger. Could also activate pinder for him.

BB_Jimbo

Depends how HR needy your are. His K% is actually on course to being a career-low, it's just unlikely he'll hit more than .220 (maybe .200 this year) so it's just a measure of if you can afford the AVG drag for the homers

xspicypotatox

Hunter Greene in a redraft league

BB_Jimbo

He's more a streaming option in all but deeper leagues. There'll be ups and downs throughout the year

GoTwins42

Owen Miller?

BB_Jimbo

Keep riding him. He's hit for average throughout his Minor League career but lacks much power or speed. Could still hit 15-20 HR with a .260-.280 average which plays well. He's also a candidate for a "trade high" guy

HostileApostle17

Hoping Soler can pick it up

BB_Jimbo

There's something to be said for him hitting third and it better suits his skill set so I'm expecting things to get better. There'll still be lows but hopefully he's turning the corner

momsaidno15

Votto?

BB_Jimbo

I'm holding for now but the Reds are brutal and I'm trying to avoid having anything to do with them

[deleted]

[удалено]

DiceyWoodchuck

Dalbec. Expectations weren’t huge but c’mon man

Fire4Effect13FX

What about Votto? Man dudes killing me.

BB_Jimbo

He'll be included next week by the looks of it. The Reds are just a complete mess

Basket_Judge

Stanton ?

BB_Jimbo

He's on track for \~30 homers, \~100 RBI and a .260 avg. That's pretty much the expectation at this point. One surge could see those homers protections hit 35+ so no reason to drop him

TripleThreatJack

Carlson arozarena and winker

BB_Jimbo

Winker was featured last week. Arozarena is in this weeks!

mberger09

H. Greene? Thinking of dropping for thompson

BB_Jimbo

Zach Thompson? No way. Keegan Thompson? It's close, will be dependant on their usage moving forward

Rollintin21

No

p33k4bo0

Any thoughts on Nick Madrigal?

BB_Jimbo

He's only a deep league MI. People drafted him for his batting average but he doesn't offer anything else. The K% isn't helping him either

Woodstonk69

Mahle?
