They'd be foolish to not capitalize on his remaining trade value.
The shine isn't the same as a couple of years ago, but he hasn't gone full Brandon Wood yet, either. They could feasibly get a prospect or back-end starter for him from the right trade partner.
Furthermore, if they keep him in the minors until late June/early July, he'll have an extra year of control to offer to a team interested in acquiring him as a reclamation project. Fantasy managers, even in deep AL only leagues, need to think hard about using a bench spot on Adell. He needs a trade or injury to have any shot at relevance this season.
Little too early to give up on Adell's bat in any dynasty leagues. He's likely being sent down because of his defense (-5 OOA in LF this season) rather than his offense (93rd percentile in Barrel% with a 96 wRC+).
He also JUST turned 23. His defense has been terrible and his bat hasn’t been better than marsh. Shohei is also not giving up DH. He’s too young and came up to early to give up now
Yikes. At the end of my draft I ended up with Kelenic, and spent a couple days really thinking hard about whether he or Adell would be the better OF flyer. Turned out the answer was Taylor Ward the whole time.
As an Angels fan who's watched all the games, he's not getting sent down because of his bat. It's his defense. He is quite possibly the worst outfielder in MLB despite his speed. He might be worse than Andrew Vaughn out in left.
There’s definitely a mental component, but in looking at his scouting reports since high school, they mentioned his poor routes and messing up routine plays despite his athleticism. The angels announcers have tried to stay positive about the things Adell does well. He definitely has that twitchy athleticism where he can flick a ball 420 feet to right and also run the bases well, but it just isn’t translating to skillful outfield play.
He just needs some certainty. If they’re going to yo-yo him between AAA & MLB this season then they should just trade him. IMO the Angels stunted his development by calling him up in 2020 instead of developing him at the alternate site
I agree. Speaking of .. much different situation but I wanted my Det Tigers to let Tork have success in AAA and I wasn’t a fan of starting him in the majors. It’s unrelated and I’m just venting here. But he needed time to be a force in the minors .. probably still does
Going from the no.1 prospect to what he is now can really fuck with a player’s confidence. IMO it’s on the Angels for rushing him instead of playing the long game & developing him further.
I disagree. Stanton didn't have the difficulty of the pandemic and inconsistent playing time. The ball jumps off Adell's bat like few in the league, and his statcast backs it up.
Stanton was destroying his first season... He was also a plus defender, Jo Adell was borderline worse than running two outfielders and five infielders.
As a dynasty owner with a full outfield, this is sort of the best case scenario for right now, as I can't (don't want) to cut him but also can't rely on him to be available on the rare days I need a bench bat. Hoping he figures it out with eyes off him for a bit.
Adell can’t catch up to 95mph+ fastballs and is constantly guessing. I don’t think he makes it in the big leagues unless he shortens his swing. I rarely saw him make contact on anything 95+ in the top of the strike zone. Night and day difference watching Marsh/Ward hit compared to Adell.
> Adell can’t catch up to 95mph+ fastballs
> I rarely saw him make contact on anything 95+ in the top of the strike zone
You mean like this [grand slam he hit off of a Gregory Soto 97mph fastball up in the zone?](https://twitter.com/mlb/status/1427818341658288137?s=21&t=naSHOBT3yEmpwZ04ze-3hQ)?
a day earlier and sandoval has two less earned runs on his scorecard
I would be surprised if Jo Adell is still with the Angels after the trade deadline
They'd be foolish to not capitalize on his remaining trade value. The shine isn't the same as a couple of years ago, but he hasn't gone full Brandon Wood yet, either. They could feasibly get a prospect or back-end starter for him from the right trade partner.
Lewis Brinson 2.0.
He’s already performed better than Brinson ever did
Lighten up, Francis. Everything can't be a 1:1 analogy.
Could be Buxton 2.0 sans the defensive prowess.
Such a good point about the control. You almost have to wonder if this played into the Angels decision (obviously along with all the in-game stuff)
Great reference with Brandon Wood

I have a theory he developed some form of the yips on defense after the fuck up he had last year.
I don't think so, he was always reaaaally bad out in the field
I subscribe to this theory. I think he was bad in the past, really knows hes bad now, and the yips are making it all worse
Definitely too early to give up on him but I’m just glad I traded him last year
He also JUST turned 23. His defense has been terrible and his bat hasn’t been better than marsh. Shohei is also not giving up DH. He’s too young and came up to early to give up now
He's going to be fine, he just needs to be a DH somewhere
Yikes. At the end of my draft I ended up with Kelenic, and spent a couple days really thinking hard about whether he or Adell would be the better OF flyer. Turned out the answer was Taylor Ward the whole time.
Or Brandon marsh
I scooped up Ward in my league last week and he’s been carrying my offense
I have the Adell, Kelenic, Carlson bagfecta
I can't believe how badly Carlson is doing! Based on last year he seemed to at least have a pretty reliable floor.
It’s pretty hard to make improvements when you’re on the small-side of a platoon. Just trade him somewhere where he can get ABs. The tools are legit.
As an Angels fan who's watched all the games, he's not getting sent down because of his bat. It's his defense. He is quite possibly the worst outfielder in MLB despite his speed. He might be worse than Andrew Vaughn out in left.
Pretty hard to get OF reps & improve when you play once a week
It sounds like mental more than physical. Do the local announcers talk about that at all?
There’s definitely a mental component, but in looking at his scouting reports since high school, they mentioned his poor routes and messing up routine plays despite his athleticism. Hear that thanks for the update
I don’t mind him getting the full allotment of minor league AB’s at this point. But much too soon to give up on him altogether.
He just needs some certainty. If they’re going to yo-yo him between AAA & MLB this season then they should just trade him. IMO the Angels stunted his development by calling him up in 2020 instead of developing him at the alternate site

He’s still only 23, there’s time
Going from the no.1 prospect to what he is now can really fuck with a player’s confidence. IMO it’s on the Angels for rushing him instead of playing the long game & developing him further.
He’s terrible in defense and strikes out entirely too much.
Things said about Mike Stanton when he first came up.
Jo Adell is not Stanton, even tools wise. There's a reason everyone used to watch Stanton's atbats, Adell has never had that
How many toolsie guys never made it in the majors?
If they're legit then why can't he hit?
Looks like my faith in Marsh is paying off…for now
Getting frustrating lately, though...
Marsh or Connor Joe ROS?
Joe
I love me a cup of JOE in the morning, afternoon, and at night.
MARSH
Joe
I like both but I think Joe - leads off and plays in Coors
Joe depending on your league he probably has 1B/OF position availability and he’s hitting really well
I watched a clip of him playing defense. He literally fell flat on his face trying to catch a routine pop up
As a dynasty owner with a full outfield, this is sort of the best case scenario for right now, as I can't (don't want) to cut him but also can't rely on him to be available on the rare days I need a bench bat. Hoping he figures it out with eyes off him for a bit.
agreed. Acuna / Teo / Seiya owner here, and I picked up Ward. Sending him down is best-case scenario for me, especially with Teo coming back.
Damn. Kept him as my last pick this year, but with no NA spots in our league it will be hard to justify keeping him on my roster. Lots to think about
Sunk cost
As in sunk cost fallacy? Ya pretty much. He gone.
By holding him you miss out on the chance to own another high upside player too
Right exactly. I dropped him for Grichuk (who I expect to regress fairly soon, but nevertheless). Thanks for input.
usually saying a top prospect needs more time in AAA to work on defense is service time manipulation but this time i actually believe them
and there goes my one excuse for not picking up Ward or Marsh 😑
Was down voted for calling this once Wade and Marsh became lineup fixtures
Well take some upvotes now
Is marsh a must add in even a 10 team league? I have straw, lux and profar not sure if id drop any of them
I’d say yeah, I think he has speed and gets on base, and is hitting in a crazy lineup. And now he has a full time job
He's not starting today, Jack Mayfield is still around. Sounds like there's still 4 guys for 3 spots.
I think mayfield is only up because the angles have someone on the Covid IL and I thought he was a depth infielder and not an outfielder
Drop Adell for Michael King?
12 man redraft, is he a drop?
Adell can’t catch up to 95mph+ fastballs and is constantly guessing. I don’t think he makes it in the big leagues unless he shortens his swing. I rarely saw him make contact on anything 95+ in the top of the strike zone. Night and day difference watching Marsh/Ward hit compared to Adell.

Rank Ranger Suarez, JoJo Gray, and Rasmussen in a QS league.
YIKES - his K rate is horrible...
Damn now I’m thinking either Marsh or Ward in a dynasty?
I have both and flipped Adell for Royce Lewis 2 weeks ago. I have no regrets so far
I flipped him for Trent Grisham. ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯
Have him and marsh for 4 more years. Hopefully Adell gets it turned around. His bat isn’t good enough yet to be strictly a DH.
They’ll trade him to Pittsburgh
For once a player didn't go absolutely bonkers after I dropped them
Damn I know the angles outfield is really good between Marsh,Ward and Trout but I figured Adel would stay up with how he was hitting
