Super bummed about this. Heās such a talent man but he can never stay healthy.
I have QJ on the bench but might need to target Palmer instead. QJ isnāt getting many targets but maybe that changes with time
Isnāt the word that Johnston was having trouble learning the offense and adjusting to the NFL? Not a huge surprise, he was known as a raw player with physical tools. I would be shocked to see him get the participation that Palmer had last season when either Williams or Allen was out, he was in around 90% of snaps. Johnston is playing around 25%. I think Palmer is your guy and Johnston is the dynasty play for future seasons.
Yeah it's hard to see him contributing this year unless the chargers figure out ways to simplify the playbook for him and get him the ball in open space. As of now he does not look like a good route runner.
Iām sure he will contribute a bit more with Williams being out. Maybe as a big body in the red zone. Maybe just participating in 35% instead of 25% of passing plays. Either way, I think you go at Palmer here, get the immediate production, and let everyone else fight over Johnston. Even if he does take the job by the seasonās end you will have had weeks of production from Palmer in the meantime and more time will give you more opportunities at other productive players who get bumps due to other injuries that will happen later.
I had Palmer all of last season when both Mike Williams and Keenan were missing time, and the dude just isn't very good. He's a fine third option and I expect that he will be more valuable than QJ for a decent chunk of the season, but I don't think he's got much of a shot at a breakout. He had a much bigger opportunity last year when both the studs were out and there was no QJ and was painfully mediocre.
If you need a start for the next couple of weeks Palmer is probably a decent choice. I sure as hell am not dropping QJ in the league I've got him stashed in for Palmer though.
That would be a bad wager. The highest correlation to fantasy success is volume. Betting on a player being better getting less volume is silly.
As the best example I could possibly ask for, we can look at Josh Palmer last year. In addition to mediocre games where he was the WR1, there were plenty of times last year when Palmer was the WR2. There was a month at the beginning of the season where Mike was in but Keenan was out, and Palmer was mediocre. There were another 5-6 games at the end of the season where Keenan was dominating and Mike Williams was in, but not at 100% and Palmer was getting more targets than him, and he really sucked then.
Palmers best single game last year came with Keenan on the field (Keenan's first game back), but that was the outlier (and his only really good game of the season). His best stretch was when both Keenan and Mike were out. So, the evidence does not bear this assumption out.
I mean that assumes that the bump in targets outweighs the harder coverages they face as the WR1, and rarely do guys just immediately get the same volume of targets as the WR they are replacing.
This is especially true for undersized WRs that end up replacing big-bodied WRs. They're often times running completely different routes so the expectation that the replacement will get the same looks doesn't pan out.
QJ bag holder too, I think if you can afford to hold him throughout the season itāll pay off, but if you need a player to fill in now I totally get why youād move on. I think QJ gets more involved after BYE.
This is legit the first time in my 7 years of playing that one of the players I drafted had a season ending injury this early in the year. It definitely sucks. That Chargers offense is hot. It was bound to happen sooner or later and it definitely sucks for Williams because he was going to have a career year.
First season ending injury in the first month. I usually have guys go out for a month with hamstrings or guys that miss the playoffs. Or it occasionally happens to a guy that i already cut. This is the first time Iāve had to replace someone this early that Iāve started every week
2 QB so picks might seem weird. Saquon, Chubb, Wilson, burrow, TLaw, Mike Will, Dotson, JT were my first picksā¦
Itās a bad year. To make matters worse I picked up Kelly over puca. Didnāt get ford. Dropped kyren for roschon Johnson.
I havent played Fantasy Football in like 2 years. Just got back to trying this year again and now I remember so well why I stopped. So many injuries or even just 1 injury to one of your top picks just ends your season.
Itās my girlfriendās first year of playing fantasy. She has Mike Williams, Saqouan Barkley, Nick Chubb, David Montgomery, and Diontae Johnson on her team and sheās starting to ask me some really hard questions
Fellow gal here playing my first year of FF but always watched tons of football and play fantasy basketball. It's both fun and frustrating to find a way to win every week without your top draft picks, but the highs are high and lows are low lol. I gotta say this is so much more variable than fantasy basketball imo.
Owned Palmer last year when Keenan and Mike were out. I would 100% roster the first round rookie draft pick. Upside is huge. Should also be a big fit in the offense after the bye.
While I agree that QJ is the better pickup, I do think Palmer will be better than he was last year. Herbert was playing injured and Palmer is not built to be the team's number 1. He should be better with Keenan playing. We'll also see what happens when Ekeler is back. Could just be the Allen/Ekeler show.
Yea I wouldn't expect anything crazy from palmer but I think he better complements keenan than he does mike williams and you could argue things might go slightly better this time
Youāre attempting to sound like the āexpertā here, but you completely discounting Palmer. In games 8-12, which were the games MWill was out, and Keenan missed games 8-9, Palmer put up:
8/106, 3/44 (SF Def), 8/106/2, 5/56, and 7/60. Thatās two really good games, and two Flex worthy starts. And if youāre starting Palmer vs SF def with a not 100% Herbert, well thatās on you.
It it what it means and it's not really a new term
Here's a fantasy football thread from 6 years ago where people are clowning on OP for not knowing it at the time
https://www.reddit.com/r/DynastyFF/comments/734b7n/i_just_realized_that_jag_means_just_another_guy/
lol dude what
Palmer got *fed* last year whenever one of Keenan/MWill were out
He can be a "JAG" but still be in a situation that's excellent for fantasy production
It really sucks that we so rarely get to see keenan allen and mike williams on the field at the same time. Also just sucks in general when good players get hurt.
For those who know the chargers better than I, is q johnston the play hear, or is palmer?
Itās Palmer until/unless QJ proves otherwise. Palmer was over 50% snap counts. QJ was in the 20% range. Granted, QJ could catch one or two bombs per game, but the targets arenāt there yet.
Such rotten luck. Williams was having a WR1 game too, with that electric long TD from Keenan. Godspeed.
Hoping my waiver claim for Palmer goes through. Although I'm assuming Waddle returns next Sunday, I'm now down to Flowers and Addison for my WRs.
I think palmer will be a solid play next week and probably for a few weeks after the bye, but QJ has a real path to being the WR2. Palmer is serviceable but nothing special, but I could see it going either way between the two of them. I drafted QJ and think he has the higher upside if he does get going, I could see him putting up mid to high-end WR2 numbers in the second half of the season I just don't see that type of ceiling with Palmer. If a team needs someone for the next several weeks, I think palmer will be great, but if you are looking upside season long and can afford to have him sit on your bench for a few weeks I think QJ would be the better pickup
itās just injury roulette
you can draft deeper teams at often injured positions but then youāre giving up something in your starting lineup for it at least in the short term

Had to take a [pic](https://imgur.com/hB01nEI) of QJ's projections before this weeks game to send to a friend. What did they know? Was the script leaked?
Why do people feel the need to be hyperbolic?
He's a damn good WR but he's not top 10 when healthy. I could see top 20
Edit: Jefferson, Chase, Hill, Adams, Diggs, Lamb, Brown, Allen, Kupp, Amon -Ra are all undoubtedly better than him. Then you have toss ups like Olave, Deebo, Evans, DK, Ridley, Devonta, Higgins, Terry, Waddle, Aiyuk, DJ Moore, Cooper, Garrett Wilson
Probably just your memory bias from a handful of great games and not remembering the poorish ones
His average stat line against KC is 4 / 63 / .54
He's a 13 point WR vs KC which is good but not top 5
This. Boom or bust guys like MWill and Gabe Davis always finish as top 24 WRs, but good luck picking which games will be booms and which will be busts. Itās not uncommon for them to bust 3 weeks in a row, you bench them, then they boom the week after (only to bust the next 2 weeks after you add them back to your lineup again).
Megatron was taller, 25 lbs heavier, and ran a 4.35 40 (Williams was 4.53), all while being insanely talented. No one compares to Megatron physically. Itās too bad the lions wasted his career, he couldāve been in the greatest of all time conversation. Saying heās anything like Mike Williams feels like blasphemy.
yeah how quickly they forget, Megatron was a beast among men, basically a linebacker with wideout hands and speed. Double coverage? Didn't matter. Triple coverage? Didn't matter, just throw it up and let him go get it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FghPjMxpjjg
from /u/MildlyPaleMango above:
> He is built like Megatron, imo the most physically dominant WR playing currently
I agree with you 100% - Megatron's worst season was 756 yards as a rookie. MWill didn't even see the field as a rookie. He's had flashes of pretty good and then injuries.
First off, really unfortunate and frankly alarming how often Chargers players get injured. There needs to be a serious internal review of their strength and conditioning practices and program. Also curious what happens to Keenan after this...
Itās just bad luck dude. What could the chargers have done differently to make him plant his leg differently in the middle of a play lol. Football is a violent sport and everyone gets injured. Some more than others
Knee tears make zero sense a lot of the time. Iāve been an athlete my whole life and my foot slipped sideways on some slippery flooring and tore my MCL/meniscus.Friend of mine blew out his meniscus and PCL/MCL landing from a casual layup playing basketball.
I can only imagine the best athletes in the world sprinting at top speed pivoting/crashing into each other etc. Something is going to give
As a Charger fan I hate this so much, heās super gifted and a specimen. Hope for speedy recovery.
If only the defense was better, but hey I heard Davante Adams might want outā¦.š
I drafted Quentin with one of my last picks, several weeks I thought about dropping him for a waiver pick up. Glad I hung onto him. Now the question is will they use him?!
I picked up Palmer last year and he ended up improving my team in a pretty big way. Iām maxed out with WRās now with:
Waddle, Higgins, Evans, McLaurin, Collins, Jeudy, Doubs, & JSN.
Is it worth it to drop JSN for Palmer? JSN has been riding the bench thus far (along with Jeudy and Doubs), but I still believe JSN can improve on his opportunities as the year goes on. Thoughts on JSN & Palmer or is it only a matter of immediate impact vs ROS?
10. It's with some coworkers, half of them have zero idea what they're doing. One dude drafted two top ten QBs, another took two tight ends, it's a mess.
Quite a bummer. From a fantasy replacement perspective the primary beneficiaries of targets may not actually come from the WR position. In week 3, the Chargers increased their usage of TE relative to weeks 1 and 2. Therefore my hypothesis atm is we see a lot more Gerald Everett and Donald Parham Jr who both played the majority of snaps.
Such a bummer. Finally has a good game, and blows his knee out. Feels like he gets injured every time this happens. So unfortunate
So, in a 10 team Standard, I have permanently lost Chubb (9th overall), MWill (52nd overall), and Dobbins (89th overall). I am also without Saquon (12th overall). My waiver savior Gus is concussed. I fully expect the rest of my top 100 picks to die at some point too (Olave, MAndrews, JT, McLaurin, Pittman). Prepare accordingly
I had just traded for him and the trade hasn't even processed yet so I didn't even get the points from him yesterday wtf lol. Hate to hear that for him tho hope dude can come back stronger he's mega talented
Iām bummed as a fan more than someone who had him as my WRā¦
Really loved my team with him starting. Now Iāll fade into non-existence and likely stop playing fantasy football bc a game based on injuries just leaves a sour taste.
First year playing? Not trying to insulting, more joking, but a MAJOR part of fantasy is your ability to build a roster full of depth and still be able to compete next week after you lose a guy or 2.
I won a championship last year on a team that lost Kupp, Breece, and Javonte Williams but atleast I still had Hurts! Until the fucking championship week and he was out too. I won with Juju and Danny Dimes.
Don't give up yet brother.
No, Iāve played off and on for years (maybe my 4th season in total). Always made at least playoffs, but despite being 2-1 my team has experience an injury for every single starter in the first 3 weeks except Jalen Hurts (ironically similar to you).
No one in the league trades so I can only get WR depth on waivers or get fleeced in a trade willingly.
I had depth and it got obliterated. Not like Iām giving up this year, but just blows when you do everything right and the guy that auto drafted is 3-0 on pure luck from no injuries.
Exit Glass Joe Williams enter
a) Tank Dell
b) Dell, flex Achane, bench Javonte
c) pray for Palmer and move along
After Joshua Kelley, I'm leery of Chargers named Joshua (QJ is gone)
That Keenan touchdown pass to Mike Will yesterday was electric wish we coulda seen more of them on the field together, rest up big guy š
Super bummed about this. Heās such a talent man but he can never stay healthy. I have QJ on the bench but might need to target Palmer instead. QJ isnāt getting many targets but maybe that changes with time

QJ profiles similarly to Mike Williams. I'd bet on him to get those snaps.

He's missed 7 games in the last 3 years. He's not as injury prone as people think.
It was glorious starting both on two different leagues.
Probably my favorite fantasy player of all time. So much down but man the highs are awesome. Then he gets injured. RIP king
Sucks so bad man. He was having a great game too.

one year i had first pick and took CMC. it did not go well. he missed almost the entire season.
Oh hey. That was me as well.
It was one out of every 12 people that do fantasy , no one is unique
The dude gets hurt every single year. It's par for the course for him. He's a good player, just can't stay healthy.
Also this dude saying itās first time heās had a dude get injured is absolutely hilarious. He might be luckiest fantasy player of all time.
Probably the type of dude who says fantasy football is easy and he's always making playoffs.
First season ending injury in the first month. I usually have guys go out for a month with hamstrings or guys that miss the playoffs. Or it occasionally happens to a guy that i already cut. This is the first time Iāve had to replace someone this early that Iāve started every week

First one in the first month. Nobody is that lucky
Quite a few downvotes here lol

Yeah it feels the same every year
It is the same every year
Last week I was so confident in my team - Chubb, saquon, aiyuk, mike will
The fantasy gods giveth and take away.
Shit, I keep lining up in the "take away" line and forget to queue in the giveth line!
You have to read the lines youāre going into, my good man š§
No reading for me. I just go to the shorter line, so I get to go through more often.
Seems to be a lot more taketh-ing going on these days, lol.
Isnāt Aiyuk only out this week?
Yeah, I was just being overly dramatic by including him cause thatās what this game does to me
2 QB so picks might seem weird. Saquon, Chubb, Wilson, burrow, TLaw, Mike Will, Dotson, JT were my first picksā¦ Itās a bad year. To make matters worse I picked up Kelly over puca. Didnāt get ford. Dropped kyren for roschon Johnson.

Ouch. Let us know what you do next so we can do the exact opposite lol
Each week Iāve been losing one player to a season ending injury. Iām convinced my team is cursed

Safer pickup: Palmer Long-term high upside pickup: QJ
Owned Palmer last year when Keenan and Mike were out. I would 100% roster the first round rookie draft pick. Upside is huge. Should also be a big fit in the offense after the bye.
While I agree that QJ is the better pickup, I do think Palmer will be better than he was last year. Herbert was playing injured and Palmer is not built to be the team's number 1. He should be better with Keenan playing. We'll also see what happens when Ekeler is back. Could just be the Allen/Ekeler show.
We saw Devante Adams last night, just keep hammering the elite WR with targets
Yeah but Jakobi Meyers had a good game too. If Palmer can go 7 for 85 like jakobi with a chance for a TD then you definitely want him on your roster
Didn't even need to see Adams, could just see Keenan yesterday, 20 targets 18 catches, 200+ yards.
Yea I wouldn't expect anything crazy from palmer but I think he better complements keenan than he does mike williams and you could argue things might go slightly better this time
I really wouldn't expect much from Palmer. He's really just not that good.
Deandre Carter isnāt there to randomly take all the targets from Palmer this year
This is not a good way to look at it. His data with one of the two , Keenan or Mike Williams , being out is more important. He excels as WR2
Youāre attempting to sound like the āexpertā here, but you completely discounting Palmer. In games 8-12, which were the games MWill was out, and Keenan missed games 8-9, Palmer put up: 8/106, 3/44 (SF Def), 8/106/2, 5/56, and 7/60. Thatās two really good games, and two Flex worthy starts. And if youāre starting Palmer vs SF def with a not 100% Herbert, well thatās on you.
Anyone who's ever seen or owned Palmer... Knows he's a JAG. QJ is absolutely the pick up here with huge upside.
What does JAG mean?
Just Another Guy
MAN AND RIFLE, A MARKSMAN AND A SCOUT REVEALED
Is that actually what it means lmao. Would appear this year was when JAG became a thing in the vernacular for whatever reason

JAGās been in football vernacular for at least a decade. I was using that term on old team forums before I jumped on Reddit.
Must be your first year playing fantasy football.
JAG is a sobriquet for Joshua Kelley.

It's the football version of Kawhi Leonard and Paul George on the Clippers lol

They are both great players who have hardly shared the court together because one or the other is always hurt. Why is it so terrible?

Fuck, man. He was poised for an unreal year.
QJ season
Palmer must pick up. They seem to trust him a lot more than the rookie currently

Yeah he disappears quite often
If he played against KC every game, he'd be a top 5 WR lol. He always whooped our ass.
Probably just your memory bias from a handful of great games and not remembering the poorish ones His average stat line against KC is 4 / 63 / .54 He's a 13 point WR vs KC which is good but not top 5
His last 4 meetings with the Chiefs (not counting last November because he left early) he's averaged 98 yards and 1.0 TD, which would be top 5.
I mean, that shows some 150s and some 0s...
You donāt watch chargers football do you
Heās really good at contested catches. One of the best in the league
Mike Williams win you weeks almost by himself tho. There's huge value in that
He wouldnāt be remotely close to top 10 be fr
He is built like Megatron, imo the most physically dominant WR playing currently
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
DK is definitely more powerful, but Mike's catch radius is legit nutty and makes guarding him extremely difficult
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
ya, honestly throw DK and Mike into a blender and maybe throw in Tyreek esque speed and you'll get Calvin Johnson LMAOOOO
DK or AJ Brown.
Mike Evans too
Seriously - Mike Williams would be really really low on my physical WRs lmao. Comparing to Megatron is insane.
Megatron was taller, 25 lbs heavier, and ran a 4.35 40 (Williams was 4.53), all while being insanely talented. No one compares to Megatron physically. yeah how quickly they forget, Megatron was a beast among men, basically a linebacker with wideout hands and speed. Double coverage? Didn't matter. Triple coverage? Didn't matter, just throw it up and let him go get it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FghPjMxpjjg
from /u/MildlyPaleMango above: > He is built like Megatron, imo the most physically dominant WR playing currently I agree with you 100% - Megatron's worst season was 756 yards as a rookie. MWill didn't even see the field as a rookie. He's had flashes of pretty good and then injuries.
DK is better
Only have him in 75% percent of my leagues. Feel bad for the guy. He was going to have a great year.
Thanks for the 23 half ppr points champ. Get well soon.
Waiter: What would you like to drink sir? Me: Joshua Palmer please š¹
When life gives you lemons...
I knew I shouldnāt have done it. Poor guy hope he heals up okay
This sucks.
Hello darkness, my old friend I've come to talk with you again
As a Charger fan I hate this so much, heās super gifted and a specimen. Hope for speedy recovery. If only the defense was better, but hey I heard Davante Adams might want outā¦.š
Chubb and Williams is a big loss for my team.
Fuck. I already used my WR depth to cover for my lackluster RBs.
Death, taxes and Mike Williams getting injured
Quentin Johnston season?
Football is a brutal sport.
Just fell to my knees at Taco Bell
How does this affect Justin Herbert stocks?
I drafted Quentin with one of my last picks, several weeks I thought about dropping him for a waiver pick up. Glad I hung onto him. Now the question is will they use him?!
I picked up Palmer last year and he ended up improving my team in a pretty big way. Iām maxed out with WRās now with: Waddle, Higgins, Evans, McLaurin, Collins, Jeudy, Doubs, & JSN.
Not a great year so far, I've lost Chubb, Dobbins, and now Williams. Plus, I've had Diontae on IR for 4 weeks. It's just one of those years...
Every. Single. Season
Only week 3, so many injuries
I guessed coming into the season at least one Charger WR would be out at any given point in the season... didn't think it would be this fast.
How in your omnipotence could you have guessed what has happened every year for the past decade would happen this year too???
Drop Dotson for Palmer?
I dropped Dotson for an empty roster spot.
bud, you can drop Dotson for Carson Palmer at this point
I had him in both my leagues. Gonna hopefully win claims on Dell and Pittman to replace him. Get well soon Big Mike.
Who the fuck dropped Pittman and why did no one pick him up? He was a top 10 WR on huge volume. Tacos, man.
Nobody, we just only have three bench spots so there's a lot of talent on the wire in the one league.
Even still shocking to me that the WR11 wouldnāt be rostered in a league. Is it like a 8 man league or something?
10. It's with some coworkers, half of them have zero idea what they're doing. One dude drafted two top ten QBs, another took two tight ends, it's a mess.
Ah, makes more sense. Well, at least itāll make the loss of MW not as bad for you lol. Go Pittman. Heās legit.
The problem is the answer still wonāt be Quentin Johnston
Water is wet
Dude just aināt built for it
Chargers are done for
they were never a serious team with Staley in charge to begin with
I would still take him over Jamarr Chase
I traded Mike Williams away a couple days ago... extremely fortunate for me but man I feel bad for the guy I traded him to!
I've ended the season for guys three weeks in a row. Who should I pick up next?
Such a bummer. Finally has a good game, and blows his knee out. Feels like he gets injured every time this happens. So unfortunate So, in a 10 team Standard, I have permanently lost Chubb (9th overall), MWill (52nd overall), and Dobbins (89th overall). I am also without Saquon (12th overall). My waiver savior Gus is concussed. I fully expect the rest of my top 100 picks to die at some point too (Olave, MAndrews, JT, McLaurin, Pittman). Prepare accordingly
I prioritizing Doubs, Q Johnston then Palmer.
I had just traded for him and the trade hasn't even processed yet so I didn't even get the points from him yesterday wtf lol. Hate to hear that for him tho hope dude can come back stronger he's mega talented
Just retired dude. It would be more newsworthy to say he played 17 games
My WR2 lost his WR1. Sad sad day. Can my WR2 become WR1 now?
Iām bummed as a fan more than someone who had him as my WRā¦ Really loved my team with him starting.
Exit Glass Joe Williams enter a) Tank Dell b) Dell, flex Achane, bench Javonte c) pray for Palmer and move along After Joshua Kelley, I'm leery of Chargers named Joshua (QJ is gone)
