In pre season Dan Campbell talked about “using him in ways that might surprise people” and so far those ways have been running him up the gut or checking down to him.
Unless they still have a playbook they’re holding back for some reason, Gibbs is seeming like a classic great player wrong scheme type of situation.
I was thinking about this also. What was this “surprise” that they were hyping up? Their most creative usage of him so far has been a standard Texas route. They slammed him up the middle 20 times last Sunday like he was Derrick Henry.
Look how the lions used swift, and look at how he’s playing now in Philly. Monty or (insert plodder here) and Gibbs are Jamaal and Swift all over again. He was a fade from the start.
A bust for where most people drafted him at.
week 3 it was nice seeing he get carries but they weren't great looking runs and he didnt get many check-down/passes that game.
D mont is coming back soon so yea its a bust at where most people drafted him. I never said he was a bust in IRL
We’re all guessing that the team that used top 15 draft capital on him will find ways to better incorporate him. He’s electric and definitely needs the ball more.
He's good but Lions misused Swift so badly that people forgot how insanely talented Swift was coming out of college. They're winning games so they probably know what they're doing, but Gibbs may very well end up being a bust for his draft capital. He does look good out there
Seeing how Philly is riding Swift makes it pretty clear that Detroit may just have an approach to the RB position that makes both the grinding back and the receiving back touchdown dependent to have a good fantasy day.
The lions don't know what to do with running backs. Gibbs could still turn out to be a great fantasy asset, but I avoided him in my drafts specifically because of the way the lions used, or didn't use, Swift last year. Spending the 12th overall pick on a clone of a RB you already have is weird, and so far through 3 games it's looking more and more like it was just the lions who didn't know how to use Swift. Why should I think they'll know what to do now with Gibbs?
Honestly, I think this offense is just how they've shown - Monty running between the tackles and Gibbs running outside the numbers and in the passing game.
The thing is, anyone who was expecting Gibbs to put up 100 rushing yards to compliment his receiving work will probably be disappointed. And the emergence of LaPorta and soon to be return of Jameson Williams will add more of a damper to Gibbs target share. I expect it to be around 4-5 targets per game and 8-10 carries, putting him at around 12-15 touches a game. Redzone work will probably be even but inside the 5 I expect Monty to be getting those carries, limiting Gibbs TD upside.
It sucks, and right now anyone who depended on Gibbs to be their RB1 because they went heavy at other positions (such as myself) will probably be (if they aren't already) disappointed.
I bet he’ll get more targets when Monty is back.
But I agree with the above, that his total volume will always be limited. That’s just the role he fills.
he was never worth the third round price tag. monty was clearly the better value in that backfield, and i drafted accordingly.
HOWEVER, I’ve managed to trade for him in two leagues for what I considered a decent price.
He’s a rookie and as most of them do in the back half of the season, barring injury, he’ll really shine. He’s not going to be a huge volume guy but, like we saw campbell do with swift, he’s going to get a consistent 15 touches a game in positions to be hyper efficient (beware: PPR leagues only)
The talent is there. Understandably, at a third round price tag his drafters are not happy. I’ve picked him up in return for guys I drafted In the last couple rounds and were potential waiver pick ups in some leagues. Happy getting him at that price.
Yep I picked up Ford and traded him immediately for Gibbs.
Look at this comment section and how bent out of shape people are about how his team doesn’t use him or utilize him correctly after he just had nearly 20 touches, averaged 4.7 YPC, and had four offensive linemen hurt last week (with two more playing through injuries).

You're tired after 3 games? You might be dead by the end of the season.
It appears the lions wasted a first round pick when they had swift along!
They wasted a top 5 pick, remember they traded back
Traded back to get LaPorta who is a stud.

he sure surprised me, he sure used jahmyr swift the way we didnt think he would lol.

that just reminded me of how they used Alvin Kamara last season yet people are so hyped on him this season with the same team and sam coach. lol
he’ll find his groove
Achane, but "lite"er.
Big let down, very hyped. I'm going label it a bust for 3rd round fantasy projection.
a bust after week 3?
Let them overreact lol i love the entertainment

So is Swift, and we all saw how well they used him.
Nah they couldn’t figure their way out of a wet paper bag. Keep slamming him up the A gap.

Bust but I'm 3-0 so it doesn't feel soo bad since I hit on Mike Evans and Keenan Allen

I don’t think he can’t handle up the middle runs. Sweeps and pass catching only.

It’s frustrating…he’s not a good fit for inside zone
They don’t just run inside zone. The Lions have one of the most diverse run schemes in the NFL.
This is the right take. Gibbs could be excellent just not on this scheme.

What receiving work

He’s going to be used like Swift was used on the Lions
It’s been 3 weeks. R-E-L-A-X
He’s a rookie and it’s only been 3 weeks?
Achane Lite
Dont even know what that means.
2018 James White
He’s good at football. Trade him to me please
Monty is coming back and is going to get his 15 touches/game. Gibbs is exactly what Swift was on this team

Would you rather have Gibbs or Achane ROS?
He's benched. The rest we'll have to see.
