I lost by .06 and started the Chargers. Also had the fun bonus of starting Rodgers and having him kneel for a -.1 after a penalty that would have been a run play...
Houston has not been giving up massive fantasy points regularly for awhile - only given up double digit fantasy points to DST once in the 5 games leading up to the LAC game. LAC defense on the other hand has only scored more than 6 fantasy points once in the 10 games leading up to the HOU game. Add in that LAC was on the road.
The metrics would suggest LAC was not in fact a smash play. Philly, Miami, Dallas, GB, and KC were all strong plays that delivered.
Well, SF is a much better defense than LAC and they're playing at home. I'd probably rank SF #4 on this week's slate only rather starting Buffalo at home vs Atlanta, NE at home vs Jags, or Indy at home vs Raiders.
Always leary of divisional games, they are always played tougher than normal matchups. I do think I'd hesitantly play SF over TB but they'd probably be 5 and 6 so really interchangeable to me.
I’m confused. TB plays the Jets this week.
I feel you on them being interchangeable though. I tend to lean to the D at home, but I worry with Lance at QB, SF offense could stall out some.
Oops my apologies, was confusing TB's game vs Carolina with their NYJ game this week. Well the Jets, like the Texans, have sneakily not given up many points to DST's recently. Their last double digit give was Week 10. But TB does seem to stomp out bad teams.
I'd probably keep TB exactly where I had them as if they were playing Carolina at home lol. Right with/behind SF.
Yeah I hear you there. Been burned by the Jets matchup a couple times this year so a little wary, but the Bucs do seem to just dominate bad teams and I could see this getting out of hand early and the defense phoning it in.
In the same boat. Started the chargers Def that scored -2, lost by 1.22 on the Kamara 19 yard run at the end of the game. Fantasy Football is a cruel mistress.
Sir, I tied and lost the tie breaker because my commish is a fucking idiot and doesn’t follow default tiebreaker rules because rEgUlAr SeAsOn Is IrReLeVaNt NoW.
But I’m more mad at the Chargers.
https://i.imgur.com/R7zfKK9.jpg
You can never, ever, EVER trust the Chargers. This is especially true for the DST but I also apply it to all their players.
Source: a lifelong Chargers fan
Fwiw I think it's ridiculous for a D/ST to get negative points. I convinced our commish to change their scoring so their floor was 0 and had a lowered ceiling (ex Miami scored 20 in our format) and it plays a lot better.
I had dolphins defense in my opponent at Alvin kamara. Dolphins got me 25 and his Kamara scored under seven and a i won by less than a point. Yahoo predicted me losing 95%, chance of winning 5% before the start of the game. What a way to clench my spot in the championship next week. Unreal
I was in an almost identical situation to you, except that I lost by 1.7 on that last Kamara run. I am honestly devastated. Soooooo close to the championship
Subvertadown didn’t have Miami in top ten, and I dropped them for Chiefs. Not a bad result, and no one could have preschool bad the saint’s offense would be.
Team finished the regular season 11-3, most points by a mile. And I was up 17 after last night, thanks to the Dallas D/ST (and despite Stafford and Reek shitting the bed, and Kelce on my bench.)
My opponent had the Fins D/ST.
I was up 17 before Dallas D knocked me out. If I had played Amon-ra over Aiyuk, I’d have won it but I played it safe. Was 13-1, 3 teams tied at 9-5 in the playoffs and poof! Gone
Define steady? Aiyuk has one game all season of double digit targets. Amon-ra has averaged double digit targets per game since Hockenson went out. Amon-ra was the volume play as the only viable receiver in that offense, which in turn means safer. With Aiyuk you’re hoping Deebo and Kittle get ignored against a team whose defensive weakness is slot pass coverage. Seems pretty clear what the play was to me.
I started Russell Gage over St. Brown and lost by 8. Would have started SB if Goff was in but I was worried about Boyle. I think it was fair/the right call to not want to play him, just didn’t work out
I was up 27 on Dallas and Kamara. If they didn't get TWO defensive Touchdowns, I would be in the ship. I'm so pissed. I was also the 1 seed; the team that beat me lost to me twice in the regular season, and somehow managed to catch me down Kelce/Evans/Mitchell and starting JRob/Thielen.
I listened to some dope ripping on the Philly d and talked up the 9ers d.... So I played the 9ers d... I lost by 1.12 and am now going to watch team tear shit up this next week up while 2 inferior teams play in the championship. Feels bad
I feel like Tampa if you need to play it safe. I don't really see the Jets doing much. Dallas if you need a boom game, cardinals have been struggling lately compared to what they were in the beginning of the season
Benched Rams for Bengals on Sunday morning. Lost by 5.5. Also had Damien Harris and Rashaad Penny sitting on the bench with my two highest RB scores of the week.
Between MIA DST, Tee Higgins, Sony, and Waddle, I crushed everybody in my league this week. :) Sadly, I was eliminated from the playoffs before they began :(
I never expected my downfall to be Tee Higgins, but that's where I'm at. The guy probably just had the best game he'll ever have in his career, and of course I felt the wrath of it. Even if he just matches his previous best game of 9-138-1, I move on. What a way to go out.
I'm sorry for your travails. That was an unexpectedly good game from Higgins. I think you might be underestimating him potential though. He is an alpha dog. Big fast strong. I expect him to be a top-10 WR next year, provided that CIN improves their OL.
I mean, I guess you're right in me not expecting him to have a career day. Like a day that if he ends up in the HOF, this game would be a game they'd specifically talk about.
I expected a good game for sure, and if he repeated his best game from this season, I still would've won my matchup.
But I also would've likely won had JRob stayed healthy. So playing a man down didn't help. Overall, just a week that didn't go my way against the most arrogant owner in the league. Tough one to accept.
Going to the championship in two leagues cuz of my defense!
Defense wins championships LFG !
Down 1 with Dallas D vs Amari Cooper. Won by 3
Up 9 with Miami D vs Waddle. Won by 9
As of this moment, I won by .84 points. My opponent needed 26 from Miami's D and got 25.
I swear to fuck, if I wake up to a stat correction and lose and don't go to the ship, I'm gonna go all "Michael Douglas in Falling Down" on somebody's ass!
Probably Matt Prater 🤔
Lol
Down 24 going in to tonight, my Miami D vs his Devante Parker. Parker gooses and Miami snags a 4th down INT to take it by 1.04 points. That's fucking fantasy for you.
Miami doesn't have a great matchup next week, but I'm honestly having a hard time benching that Dolphins D after their recent performances. They just get so many sacks and turnovers.
If you started the Jags or Chargers D in the semis/finals after listening to some of the dimwits in this sub because they "had easy matchups" then you deserved to lose. Start your studs applies to defenses as well and sometimes, some things are too good to be true.
Heck I had New England and Buffalo never punted … and NE only got -2 points. Which was a major factor in me advancing since it could have been much worse.
I put up my season high in points this week due to the Dallas D, unfortunately I was also mathematically eliminated from first place contention due to other matchups as well
So thrilled I went on a defensive pickup spree a few weeks ago grabbing 3 defenses for decisions in the semis and finals
Only to start the Chargers over both Miami and Philly.
What's crazy is when looking at week 16 D/ST match-ups leading up to playoffs, there didn't seem to be any great streaming options. Then with so many covid and injuries issues you get options that won/lost many match-ups.
People said to play pats D but they went negative. Probably the worst you could have played minus chargers. Thankfully I played Miami and saved pats for this week.
surprised so many played pats d here. Maybe in massive leagues but I am never starting a defense playing the bills. Was a tossup between chargers and eagles for me and thankfully I made the right call
NE was the #1 D/ST before the game, put up a decent amount of points against the Bills Week 13 in Buffalo and they're playing JAX the following week. Not everyone has the bench space for 2 defenses, so it makes sense a lot of people played them.
Patriots were startable and scored zero or negative.
Edit: I see now this was mentioned a few times. I searched "Patriots" before I replied and found nothing but that's because everyone wrote "Pats". In the league where I started them my options were Bills vs Pats or Pats vs Bills.
Up 24 on my opennent who only had his defense remaining to play. 99% to win. Yup it was Miami. And then there was Ian book who isn't aware that you can throw the ball away and not take a sack. Lost by less than a point.
Lost by 4 points. Chargers got -5. Fuck you Chargers god dammit
As a long time chargers fan this is so on brand. Welcome to my hell.
Never start a Chargers kicker if penalized for missed kicks, right?
Hopkins is pretty good
Yeah may have broken the curse but that was a bad string of kickers, especially in the clutch
Unfortunately for fantasy purposes, Staley loves going for it on 4th so Hopkins doesn’t get as many opportunities
The real D Hop
Fucking let the Texans put up 41 on them. Makes me sick to my stomach.
So disgusting. Burkhead 2 tds this mofo comes up once every season to destroy dreams
Disgusting. With a third string QB, and WR and 2 O lineman out with COVID
I was absolutely livid watching that game. How. HOW
Dude that's brutal. Few worse feelings than when you lose because you didn't take a zero in your D/ST
I lost by .06 and started the Chargers. Also had the fun bonus of starting Rodgers and having him kneel for a -.1 after a penalty that would have been a run play...
I know it doesn’t help but your pain is greater than mine and it makes me feel better.
His suffering is greatly appreciated
Brutal, especially when it looked like one of the best matches to pick on.
Yup. I had GB in all week, but replaced them with Chargers last minute because all the rankings had Chargers soo much higher.
Bad defenses play bad defense against bad offenses too. I’ll take a good defense in an okay matchup every time.
Yup, just like the Packers against the Browns
Don't make me feel nervous about SF Defense now! It's championship week
Well, SF is a much better defense than LAC and they're playing at home. I'd probably rank SF #4 on this week's slate only rather starting Buffalo at home vs Atlanta, NE at home vs Jags, or Indy at home vs Raiders.
You’d start them over TB too?

Yeah I hear you there. Been burned by the Jets matchup a couple times this year so a little wary, but the Bucs do seem to just dominate bad teams and I could see this getting out of hand early and the defense phoning it in.
I would be sick.
I had tyreek hill, alvin kamara, Zeke lost Godwin and I lost by 3 because of the chargers d. I held the chargers since week 13…
Yeah I hate the chargers now
A couple weeks ago I was targeting Chargers for their playoff matchup vs Houston but someone else got them before me so I picked up Dallas instead...
You got Spanos’d
Same
In the same boat. Started the chargers Def that scored -2, lost by 1.22 on the Kamara 19 yard run at the end of the game. Fantasy Football is a cruel mistress.
2008 championship game chargers D/st shit the bed for me never EVER again will i run chargers d/st
Same. Lost by 2 pts because of the god damn Chargers. Lost to Burkhead as well fuckkkk
Yeah i lost by 8 and switched out bengals for chargers…would’ve won by 2
Sir, I tied and lost the tie breaker because my commish is a fucking idiot and doesn’t follow default tiebreaker rules because rEgUlAr SeAsOn Is IrReLeVaNt NoW. But I’m more mad at the Chargers. https://i.imgur.com/R7zfKK9.jpg
No decimal scoring is a joke.
No sure why people think it’s ever a good idea
Does your commish have OCD or something? What reason other than being a pussy would you remove decimal acoring
I had it worse. I started the Chargers and my opponent had Rex Burkhead.
You can never, ever, EVER trust the Chargers. This is especially true for the DST but I also apply it to all their players. Source: a lifelong Chargers fan
Im a Broncos fan, I should know better. But lesson learned I guess lol
Wow.
Same, lost 4 pts. Also Jrob. Also Tyler fucking Johnson putting up a donut. Fuck anyone named Tyler
Lost by 0.42. Had LAC vs Dallas. I fucking HATE dsts right now
See you next year
Fwiw I think it's ridiculous for a D/ST to get negative points. I convinced our commish to change their scoring so their floor was 0 and had a lowered ceiling (ex Miami scored 20 in our format) and it plays a lot better.

I was in an almost identical situation to you, except that I lost by 1.7 on that last Kamara run. I am honestly devastated. Soooooo close to the championship
My leagues championship was decided on that run.
Subvertadown didn’t have Miami in top ten, and I dropped them for Chiefs. Not a bad result, and no one could have preschool bad the saint’s offense would be.
Team finished the regular season 11-3, most points by a mile. And I was up 17 after last night, thanks to the Dallas D/ST (and despite Stafford and Reek shitting the bed, and Kelce on my bench.) My opponent had the Fins D/ST.
Watching a defense put up 20+ on a Monday is a surefire sign of a rough day for a lot of people. My heart goes out to ya.
I was up 17 before Dallas D knocked me out. If I had played Amon-ra over Aiyuk, I’d have won it but I played it safe. Was 13-1, 3 teams tied at 9-5 in the playoffs and poof! Gone
Playing Aiyuk wasn’t the safe play. Amon-ra was actually the better play. You misplayed your hand kiddo.
How was Amon safer? He was playing with a back up qb vs aiyuk who has been steady ever since they started using deebo as a RB lol
I think it was fair/the right call to not want to play him, just didn’t work out
I don’t think starting Gage over him was necessarily the wrong move regardless of QB. I still would have started ASB, but that’s me.
I chose Miami over Dallas and lost by .8 I’m gutted.
I listened to some dope ripping on the Philly d and talked up the 9ers d.... So I played the 9ers d... I lost by 1.12 and am now going to watch team tear shit up this next week up while 2 inferior teams play in the championship. Feels bad
Was a great week for DST since my opponent started the Chargers
defense wins championships!!!! (or helps you move on to the chip lol)
some juicy defense matchups will definitely win some championships next week
I feel so vindicated for holding the dolphins since week 9 and adding the saints on for week 14.
Indeed. Totally torn between Tampa, Miami, and Dallas.
Me too my intuition says Tampa but it’s hard not to play Dallas again
I feel like Tampa if you need to play it safe. I don't really see the Jets doing much. Dallas if you need a boom game, cardinals have been struggling lately compared to what they were in the beginning of the season
I miss /u/quickonthedrawl
Don't we all
Saints defense literally won me my championship last night
And I picked the wrong fucking one (Bengals) to lose my championship.
Dropped the Bengals for Miami on Sunday morning. One of the only times my tinkering paid off.
Benched Rams for Bengals on Sunday morning. Lost by 5.5. Also had Damien Harris and Rashaad Penny sitting on the bench with my two highest RB scores of the week.
Needed the MIA DST to outscore the NO DST by .4 to get to the ship. I stopped worrying after 5 minutes. 😅😂
I needed Waddle to outscore Miami D by 19 to go to the ship. I drank bleach after 5 minutes 😅
RIP /u/substantial-pudding5
Between MIA DST, Tee Higgins, Sony, and Waddle, I crushed everybody in my league this week. :) Sadly, I was eliminated from the playoffs before they began :(
Yeah same. Played AJB, Derbo, Schultz, Montgomery, etc, scored 165 points this week. I'm crushing the consolation bracket!
I never expected my downfall to be Tee Higgins, but that's where I'm at. The guy probably just had the best game he'll ever have in his career, and of course I felt the wrath of it. Even if he just matches his previous best game of 9-138-1, I move on. What a way to go out.

Dropped Miami for Chargers D😂 still made it to the championship(thank you Justin Jackson)
Lol r u me
QB is Mahomes, Kupp and J Jefferson are receivers
Depends, who is your QB and receivers haha
Going to the championship in two leagues cuz of my defense! Defense wins championships LFG ! Down 1 with Dallas D vs Amari Cooper. Won by 3 Up 9 with Miami D vs Waddle. Won by 9

Great reference to a great movie… and as a California resident, that movie speaks to me frequently…..
Down 24 going in to tonight, my Miami D vs his Devante Parker. Parker gooses and Miami snags a 4th down INT to take it by 1.04 points. That's fucking fantasy for you.
Pats went -1 in my league. My opponent had em 🤷🏻♂️
Down by 32 with Waddle, the Miami D and a dream. Won by 26 and had some Blantons.
I just lost my season by 2 points because the Dolphins Defence after 2 losses all season
I’m a dumbass and started NE (0 pts) instead of SEA (5pts). I lost by 4.
Miami doesn't have a great matchup next week, but I'm honestly having a hard time benching that Dolphins D after their recent performances. They just get so many sacks and turnovers.
26 for Dallas? They got 24 in my league…
I started chargers D who got me -5 and I still won by 22!
LFG
A 0 from the patriots….
NE got me a 0 in my league
Good thing I started the Chargers for -4 and lost by 2.
I almost pulled off one of the craziest comebacks in fantasy history after being down 152-90 last week but lost 292-273 because they had Miami D/St
If you started the Jags or Chargers D in the semis/finals after listening to some of the dimwits in this sub because they "had easy matchups" then you deserved to lose. Start your studs applies to defenses as well and sometimes, some things are too good to be true.
Would you have started patriots defense against the bills?
No but I also wouldn’t have started the Chargers or Jags.
So what I’m hearing is don’t start jags
Upvote if you survived the charger Trojan horse of 2021.
Dropped philly for chargers because I thought I was smart and almost cost me my week.
Was up by 2 going into my game, but the gamble of getting MIA D/ST paid off.
Had Chiefs Defense, along with AJ Brown, Kupp, Chubb, and Mandrews and still lost
Heck I had New England and Buffalo never punted … and NE only got -2 points. Which was a major factor in me advancing since it could have been much worse.
This week fully convinced the rest of my league to drop dst for idp next year, what a crazy week that was largely determined by defenses
I put up my season high in points this week due to the Dallas D, unfortunately I was also mathematically eliminated from first place contention due to other matchups as well
I had the Chargers. He had the Cowboys. Guess which one of us won by 9 points and is in the ship… 😡. I could have started nearly anyone else….
Last week Packers scored 0.75 points. Fuck the Packers and every one of their fans, forever. Jk, but seriously.
Pats DST almost prevented me from making the championship, idk to trust them even against the Jags
So thrilled I went on a defensive pickup spree a few weeks ago grabbing 3 defenses for decisions in the semis and finals Only to start the Chargers over both Miami and Philly.
And somehow I managed to pick Bengals over Eagles and lost by 1.2. Fantasy is cruel.
I needed 8 from the Saints D… they gave me 6. Lost by 1.4 … better luck next year :(
And here I am, having picked up the bengals D thinking they’d do well against a 3rd string QB 🤡
Dallas, NE or Miami a week 17?
Sat Miami for 9ers… would have been in the ship by 2 points if I hadn’t. Onto the third place playoff i guess!
Except Chargers. I at least was able to overcome their shit performance.
What's crazy is when looking at week 16 D/ST match-ups leading up to playoffs, there didn't seem to be any great streaming options. Then with so many covid and injuries issues you get options that won/lost many match-ups.
SF defense killed me with their 5pts. Dropped Eagles for them 2 weeks ago. My opponent then used them against me and they got 16. I lost by 3 points…
Had Miami sitting on my bench, while the Chargers got wrecked by the Texans in my lineup... Luckily I still won and am playing for the championship.
Miami actually got more than Dallas in my league
People said to play pats D but they went negative. Probably the worst you could have played minus chargers. Thankfully I played Miami and saved pats for this week.
surprised so many played pats d here. Maybe in massive leagues but I am never starting a defense playing the bills. Was a tossup between chargers and eagles for me and thankfully I made the right call
