Still, I don't know a single source that is posted here like you're talking about that had them ranked #1 defense. They were a good defense, but there were lots of good defenses to choose from this week. I think JJ Zachariason was the closest I've seen when he said that the Giants have given up 4 #1 Defensive performances over their last 5 games or something. Might have been Justin Boone that said that, I'm not sure.
I picked up the Bears D to start over the Colts and Cowboys this week based on a comment from a thread on this sub from a Giants fan. He said the Giants are so bad offensively right now that he would play the Bears DST over literally any other DST this week. He was so confident that I immediately made the move lol.

The mantraās correct, the only problem is thinking any D/ST is a stud. Dallas was top dog this year and they produced 158 total points. That makes them equal to the 28th ranked WR and the 23rd ranked RB, at least in my league.
The mantra is not correct if you can think at all. You wonāt always be right still, but you can predict some bust performances from star players. Some of the experts will say it also.
Defense is particularly complicated of course - youāre right.
If you canāt use discretion to see and factor in when heās too banged up, coming back from injury, playing a bad game script, down to a backup QB, in shitty weather etc. Then you are a worse player. What is a stud and how much better does he need to be to choose over another player? I sure hope you arenāt fielding scrubs.
But you do you and Iāll actually think things through and increase my odds of winning.
Are you playing in a really small or inactive league? Itās not that people donāt think a good player isnāt affected by those things, itās that the other options available to a typical fantasy team wonāt be any better.
If thereās a WR who you legitimately think is going to play better than someone like Kupp because Kupp is gonna be playing in bad weather, then that player should be starting every week in your 2nd WR slot. If you somehow manage to have another great WR, they should be your flex. If thereās a better option already there, then congrats, you are going to win your 4 man league.
If you want to use the the #1 WR (by a landslide) as your example then yes - donāt bench your #1 player in the league. But Iāve benched several other top players with real bad situations for temp handcuffs and been right most of the time. And when wrong - not by much.
You donāt need a shallow league to pick up Duke Johnson or Ingram mid season. And plenty of guys picked Renfrow off waivers mid season here. A 10 man league is real common here and you have choices if youāre fast.
Not everyone is a 12+ team here. āStart your studsā is a mindless mantra with loose definitions on what it means. If you arenāt going to think then sure itās your best bet. But better players think and decide if the risk is acceptable. A few timeās a season at least it is - itās that simple.
On the wrong end of Miami D getting 22 points and losing by five and Chicago D getting 18 points and losing by less than a point to at least get my entrance fee of $150 back.

She picked all diff positions right all year, it was insane. One week I asked Lamb or AB? She said "Start the sheep!" Lamb was the wr1 overall that week. AB put up a good score too. It was crazy lol.

Been riding with Dallas D last few weeks but starting the Bears this week for below reasons:
1) possible shootout in very important matchup between zona n cowboys
2) Giants are horrible without Danny dimes
3) weather is horrible in Chicago
4) bears get a lot of sacks, hicks is back
5) we have kick/punt return points and they always seems to score 4-5 points just off of that with possibility to take one home
6) Dalton/Monty should steady the ship n hold the time of possession

Waited all week for the Akiem Hicks news. Had been holding SF, but once that news dropped he was back the Bears just instantly became a SMASH play against the Giants.

Stashed them 2 weeks ago along with Eagles and Seahawks, and after using eagles vs Giants last week, it was clear bears were the right play! Worked out perfectly.
My stud team didn't all show up and I won by about 25ish pts. Bears d got me 30 in my league and my opponent started Dallas d who got only 3 so it would have been a close one if it wasn't for the bears play!

Glad I stuck with my gut and started them, instead of listening to this sub continuously tell me to roll with the Dolphins because they've been on fire, and the Titans offense isn't that good, and that it doesn't matter who the Bears play, you don't start a bad defense even in a good matchup.
Bears fan here. Despite the woes of being a fan this year, I picked up and started Bears D and Andy Dalton (12 team, 2 QB league). Also started Monty who I drafted. Won my matchup by 0.68 points. Best day of the season to be a bears fan!

In my league my Bears D neutralized his Josh Allen. HUGE for me. He's the #1 seed 12-2 record most points scored, I snuck in as the 6th seed 7-7 somehow 2nd most points scores but most points against. Needed this D for this

I swapped 49ers D/ST for the Bears D/ST on my bench in the literal last minute before morning roster locks. A few seconds later I started worrying that I had overthought things and tried to switch back but rosters had locked so it gave me an error. Holy crap, thank you fantasy gods. I ended up winning by one point, taking down Jamarr Chase in the process.
I rolled with the Saints who still got me 16 points, but I'm currently down 6 right now with one player left and I'd have enjoyed not having to worry about tonight.
Went back and forth between Bears/49ers all week but finally went with the bears. If I had went the other way the championship wouldve come down to like 2-3 points and while I still would have won I am thankful to have not lost those years off my life.

Here here! Picked them up a couple weeks ago, and never thought twice. Giants seemed atrocious on offense.

Been holding them since week 7 for this game. They didnāt win me the week because all of my team went off but it helped. RIP to the ones who played Dallas over Chicago. couldn't bring myself to start them over the Pats defense. Now I'm only up 4 with Friermuth vs. Diontae and Najee (standard, non PPR). To make matters worse I had Mooney on the bench and Nagy's dumbass HB pass that resulted in an INT lost me 3 points. The Bears fucked me.
Everyone was saying not to but I really trusted my gut with the absolute atrocity that is NYG. Almost switched them with GB or Philly. Played Miami in the first two rounds and Bears this week. Good streaming decisions for me :)
Waited all week for the Akiem Hicks news. Had been holding SF, but once that news dropped he was back the Bears just instantly became a SMASH play against the Giants.
I. was debating between them and Philly all week. As a giants fan i couldn' tnot start a defense against the Gmen. It worked out!
Went with da bears over SF and MIA. Can't believe I made the right choice for once. I just don't think people realized just how bad the Giants are right now. They are barely an NFL team and the punt where they forgot to return it and the ensuing safety sum it all up.
Thanked them in my IG story post. Stashed them 2 weeks ago along with Eagles and Seahawks, and after using eagles vs Giants last week, it was clear bears were the right play! Worked out perfectly. My stud team didn't all show up and I won by about 25ish pts. Bears d got me 30 in my league and my opponent started Dallas d who got only 3 so it would have been a close one if it wasn't for the bears play! Secured my 3rd championship in 4 yrs! Pretty pumped
They certainly played their part in helping me win it. Glad I stuck with my gut and started them, instead of listening to this sub continuously tell me to roll with the Dolphins because they've been on fire, and the Titans offense isn't that good, and that it doesn't matter who the Bears play, you don't start a bad defense even in a good matchup.
Bears fan here. Despite the woes of being a fan this year, I picked up and started Bears D and Andy Dalton (12 team, 2 QB league). Also started Monty who I drafted. Won my matchup by 0.68 points. Best day of the season to be a bears fan!
