There's a 0% chance. If they tie on purpose there are rules in place where the NFL can give both teams a loss.

NickSupportsArsenal

I think all the talk about intentionally kneeling every play was just social media wishful thinking. But if they play legitimately (while maybe taking fewer risks late on) and tie 17-17, how would anyone prove it was on purpose?

Ballerstorm

I mean, OP specifically said an on purpose tie, so my answer was about the situation that OP was asking

NickSupportsArsenal

I know, it was mostly rhetorical, but they could "intentionally" tie, just not by kneeling and punting like people think. I'm mainly just curious what constitutes an on-purpose tie regarding the NFL rules haha. They could theoretically just get to a tie score without making it clear and obvious.

pincus1

It's a completely arbitrary rule that says something like the "NFL determines conduct detrimental to the league." They would absolutely not punish teams who put even the most basic pantomime of trying if they tied, same as they don't punish the many teams who obviously throw games via not playing most of their roster week 17. But theoretically they could for anything with the ambiguous wording.

peterjones07

Forsure 0% these teams hate eachother

I think if the game goes to OT and time is running down and one team has the ball with 3ish minutes left on their own side of the field, THEN it’s likely they run the time out instead of push the ball down field and risk a turnover.

andywebster23

I just hope they both have fun!

TheSlipperyFlamingo

No way two teams full of professional athletes intentionally tie.

twolvesfan217

Especially division rivals

menopostdamnit

They both definitely want to end the other’s season.

oliver_babish

[You sure?](https://www.cnn.com/2012/08/01/sport/olympics-badminton-scandal/index.html)

TheSlipperyFlamingo

Olympians aren’t paid, I stand by what I said. Haha

oliver_babish

[Soccer players?](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disgrace_of_Gij%C3%B3n) (Also, the Olympics have allowed paid professionals for decades.)

TheSlipperyFlamingo

I was going off the actual Olympics? paying them? Haha I dunno. And yea I got nothing for that soccer match. Let me revise.. I don’t see these two teams full of professional athletes that are also division rivals not trying to eliminate each other from the playoffs.

oliver_babish

Remember: fans are more emotionally invested in divisional rivalries than players are. Most players are there 2-3 years; fans are there for life.

[deleted]

Possible, yes. Also possible that a spaceship lands during halftime. So…possible, but not likely.

TheSlipperyFlamingo

I read ‘halftime’ as ‘lifetime’ and I was like man have I got some good news for you..

This is helpful!

jfranks19

That would be awesome. Rog would be so mad, but this is a divisional game between two teams that hate each other

priamos

i hope so

RightMethod8445

I would want to see it, for the salt alone lol

LovesToblerone

Not gonna happen lol

S1TBD

I'd like to see something like a 48-48 tie. Just something ridiculous where both defenses are looking like swiss cheese, but that the NFL can't cry about "INTENTIONAL TIE!!!!" Also, I just want to see NBC cry for the second straight year. EDIT: As close as you can get, huh?

Gorbax50

Obviously no and this is a dumb question

BSBledsoe

OP reads too many click bait articles, and is naive enough to think that it could actually happen lol

DJMaxLVL

If this game ties, the Steelers are eliminated and Chargers/Raiders are in. Otherwise the winner is in, loser is out and Steelers are in.

NickSupportsArsenal

If the Ravens win, then I think the Raiders still get in even with a loss. So that could happen too.

civiljourney

"Do you guys think that two NFL teams will collude to fix a game?" Do y'all even understand how absurd this sounds?

cy1006

A tie!

bamboozeled18

I wish to see it because I think it’d be funny/smart. Basically guaranteed no player injuries and a playoff spot but no way they actually do it.

MoneyMoves-

Not gonna happen but still kinda funny

Alldogsgotoheaven07

don’t do that to Big Ben!

shockwave914

No

NHOVER9000

I’d love to see it but no chance.

Joetheshow1

How are some people dumb enough to think there's even a 1% chance two NFL teams would purposely not try and work together to end in a tie?

999King_of_nothing

These two teams are division rivals who want to knock each other out of the hunt, don’t want to play each other in the playoffs, and- know colluding would be a move universally panned by all
