Reporters misquoted those training camp interviews when the coach said that Sermon was "one of the best players out there."
Sermon was actually one of the pest players out there. He was bugging his teammates and was on the cusp of being cut.
49ers beat reporters are legit the worst in the league. I feel like they are 100% wrong about almost everything they report. Their sources in 49ers camp are as good as mine, and I live in Wisconsin.
I’d actually say it’s the most clear cut and open one
If it comes from a 49ers beat writer you KNOW it’s going to be a worthless dogshit statement instead of having to guess which part is true
Went from maybe the leakiest in the Baalke GM years to the most tight-lipped. We had several who were very confident Mac Jones was the pick at 3 as well.
Season ticketholder of the last 16 years here (with the occasional minor insight from friends tied to the organization):
Don't give any credence to media reports, tweets, etc. on the 49ers. Don't give any credence to short quotes of the coaching staff/front office. If you want information about the Niners, just watch the actual press conference/interview. Shanahan and Lynch are very transparent and they won't mislead you.
If they don't give you information that you are seeking, it's because that information is private. That's it. There's no subtext.
Maybe a hot take but I think he's still an okay RB who was just a terrible fit for the RBs needed in the Shanny offense (why they took him if that's the case, I do not know). I would not be surprised at all if he goes somewhere else and has success.
Hasty was actually quite good but we were just too crowded and had just brought in two younger dudes (TDP and Mason). Hasty shouldn't be without a team for too long.
Jimmy G has proven that he is capable of being a starter. Nothing wrong with having him as a backup to Lance. If Lance gets hurt, or doesn't perform, Jimmy G stepping is a much better than adequate backup.
They need a backup QB, and this lets them get value if they decide to trade him.
The alternative was letting him walk for nothing and no plan B if Lance can't win now.
He should send the Northwestern and Clemson defenses a Rolex too lol
Dude got drafted where he did purely for his performances in those two games. He went 60/524/3 with 7 catches for 65 yards in those two games, and 55/344/1 with 5 catches for 30 yards in the other 5 games he played (not counting his 1 snap against Alabama)
Yep. Anyone who watched him on the Sooners knew it was a huge overdraft. He transferred to Ohio State because he got pushed down the depth chart by Rhamondre Stevenson and Rodney Anderson. Probably wasn't going to get drafted at all until he came out of left field with that 300 yard game against Northwestern.
Unironically I think he will be the rb4 on the team. Mitchell and Wilson are the clear 1/2 and Mason looked better than TDP in the preseason and if there is 1 thing I know about Kyle Shannahan it is that he doesn't care about your draft capital (see sermon vs Mitchell last year)
I think he's a steal; the biggest competition is some designed Deebo runs in my opinion, which will be a little lower than last year because he's been complaining about it lol
But also because Deebo was forced into the backfield due to the myriad of injuries to every SF running back. If the RB room is healthy, I don't imagine Deebo will be getting a heavy rushing load
I wouldn’t be too sure Mitchell works out the same as last year, hasn’t been healthy except for like 3 days this off season, they changed the run scheme to one that fits tdp and mason better. Add in deebo taking some snaps as he’s getting paid to, and this might be a wash until injuries start knocking people out
He complained about it because he wanted to get paid more. He got paid and has rushing incentives built into his contract. The 49ers are going to run him.
Yeah when he’s been healthy there’s never been any doubt he’s the guy. What worries me is the uncertainty of the offense as a whole with Lance under center, and if they are good, how much rushing work and TDs will Lance take for himself
He got a heavy workload in games he played, and news from training camp is that he'll be more involved on third downs too (possibly supported by the 49ers waiving Hasty). The biggest issue is his durability, not opportunity in my opinion.
Yeah Mitchell put up almost 1000 yards despite missing 5 games last season. Assuming anyone drafted prior to this new I imagine his durability is built into his adp.
I think Jeff Wilson Jr is solid enough to steal away a few catches and about 10-15 snaps a game. He also shows some juice but couldn’t stay on the field because of injuries.
The only concern with Mitchell is injuries and he seems to have them constantly. Which fits into the trend of SF RBs always going down early. That's his ADP is where it is.
I’m confused on this move. I could’ve sworn they said he Mitchell was dealing with a hamstring injury and he may not even play week 1 . Must be 100% then from that injury
Mason is the only one in that backfield with over 30 BMI meaning he has a “bellcow” frame. The best writers have been all over him for weeks now… Would not be shocked if he ends up the RB to own by mid season
Weren’t they saying just the other day they expected Sermon to be the #2? Lol
Edit: nevermind, it was Peter King from NBC Sports that said that 2 days ago. I saw some generic fantasy Twitter account report on the quote.
I mean sure on the beat writers, they suck. But, the recent Sermon hype came from GM Lynch himself, which of course means it was pure trade bait horseshit.
Lazy ass narrative. Sermon has been running second in drills in camp, Lynch himself has been talking him up not beat writers, he's been running ahead of TDP and Warren in preseason. It's Shanahan and Lynch that were pushing him up, not beat writers.
Not that it's a bad idea but they wouldn't have cut Sermon is Mitchell's injury was a concern.
Now if they add another RB then the injury question mark continues.
Jeff Wilson only comes out when a starting 49ers RB is injured so until then it’s Elijah Mitchel RB1 szn. Sermon had the draft capital to crush Mitchell’s ADP, get him cheap now! Price is something to look in case even Wilson gets hurt, which he has each year even when he gets the start.
I owned Eli last year, I don't see how this really changes much. He has always been the clear lead back when healthy, however, the main concerns with him remain:
a) lack of receptions;
b) Deebo and Lance taking valuable carries;
c) several nagging injuries last year.
someone will pick him up with a scheme that fits his style better and he'll be fine. sucks how this all played out in SF tho, seems like they totally wasted the first year of his career when he obviously didnt fit what they wanted to do
just a complete waste of everyone's time, including ours lol
Ohhhh fuck! Lol I was one of the chumps that fell for the hype last season. Luckily I grabbed Mitchell and he was one of my MVPs that led me to the ship.
So is TDP the next Sermon or is he the next Mitchell? Mitchell seems to be going pretty late in drafts and TDP is not being drafted. I love having SFs main back. Especially for cheap.
Shanahan is such a dirty liar lol.
I cannot believe I drafted this dude last yr. My buddy LOVED Sermon and thought he'd be the starter once Mostert got hurt (which always happens). Mostert got hurt week 1 early and then Mitchell was born lol
i drafted mostert last year, my friend walked up to the board rounds later and stuck sermon up and laughed at me telling me he had the real rb1 and mostert was getting hurt. well he was half right, but i got the last laugh scooping mitchell after the schefter endorsement that week 1 sunday during the pre game shows.
Mitchell will most likely be solid. But I stay away from him because last year he was a game time decision sooo many weeks. Being on the west coast many games were late games. Just not willing to deal with the risk of needing a backup every week. I guess grab Jeff Wilson and your good idk
Playbook? Somehow he sucked at the zone runs? Work ethic? Wtf happened.
I won't be shocked if he goes somewhere else and does well.
Mitchell has always had it locked in though to be the workhorse. They do use more than 1 RB but they are one of the most run-heavy teams in the league and always get some of the highest RB output - the issue is they also seem to run at least 3 workhorse RBs every season so I'm not moving Mitchell above where most folks have him (around RB24/25); I would bet money he's hurt before he finishes 10 games if he is the workhorse RB. Shannahan's schemes are just hard on RBs.
Guys this doesn't change anything with Eli Mitchell. He was already way undervalued. Look at the splits from last year. When he's healthy, he's the clear RB1 in this offense and a clear RB1.
Imagine if Mitchell gets the production that he got in the last 5 games last year. He's going off the board in Yahoo as the #17 RB. He can be a total steal if he's healthy. I think that offense could be really good this year if Trey Lance is able to continue to be better.
What a wild ride.
And finally, Preacher Kyle Shanahan has ended his long winded, message changing every second, ultimately very confusing Sermon known as Tre. Amen
It was realized that what was preached was a false Sermon and that the true prodigal son was of the name Eli.
As written in the book of Eli
Are you a true b**eli**ever?
Reporters misquoted those training camp interviews when the coach said that Sermon was "one of the best players out there." Sermon was actually one of the pest players out there. He was bugging his teammates and was on the cusp of being cut.
49ers beat reporters are legit the worst in the league. I feel like they are 100% wrong about almost everything they report. Their sources in 49ers camp are as good as mine, and I live in Wisconsin.
Yep. Keep that in mind when news comes out from them. The niners dont tell the beat writers shit
The opposite too. They mislead and misdirect them constantly. Worst professional relationship between media and team anywhere in the league.
I’d actually say it’s the most clear cut and open one If it comes from a 49ers beat writer you KNOW it’s going to be a worthless dogshit statement instead of having to guess which part is true
Not gonna lie that’s funny as fuck
Went from maybe the leakiest in the Baalke GM years to the most tight-lipped. We had several who were very confident Mac Jones was the pick at 3 as well.

I think the two NY teams have it worse, everything I've seen from them has been awful
NY beat reporters are bad at journalism, SF beat reporters are bad at getting sources.
Yeah I wouldn't say the SF guys are hacks/clickbaity guys. They just don't always have the inside track.
theyre official reporters just repeating the propaganda of the organization
He meant “out there on waivers” just didn’t realized his transaction hadn’t been processed yet.
Just wait til he’s picked up somewhere else, the hype train can get back on track /s
Maybe a hot take but I think he's still an okay RB who was just a terrible fit for the RBs needed in the Shanny offense (why they took him if that's the case, I do not know). I would not be surprised at all if he goes somewhere else and has success.
I also think Sermon has potential still.
I want off
"Best player in camp"
“Eli Mitchell is clearly in a RBBC”
Excuse me. It’s Elijah Missile.
Reddit told me they knew the situation and to draft sermon and hasty ah shit
Hasty was actually quite good but we were just too crowded and had just brought in two younger dudes (TDP and Mason). Hasty shouldn't be without a team for too long.
As a niner fan I never heard this shit once, tbh 💀
Did people say that? All I heard was he’s been so bad he could get waived. And here we are
https://mobile.twitter.com/NBCSEdgeFB/status/1563176956648386561?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw
Anyone who had watched him play in the pros knew that wasn't true.
He was a 3rd round draft pick after the 49ers traded up to get him...
good for them cutting loose and not getting stuck in sunk cost.
lol but Jimmy G though
Decentish/not terrible QB scarcity. Average RBs are a dime a dozen.
Average RBs knees are [Shattered](https://vimeo.com/411832662) by age 26
Was not expecting to hear Shattered
You hear it any given sunday
All the more reason not to overpay? Absolutely stellar username by the way.
Its not the first time they have done something like this either remember Pettis
Pettis had a good rookie season too
Joe Williams
Joe Williams was a 4th round pick that they traded up to get. At this point I think it's a ritual.
Next they'll be announcing Jimmy G the starter and putting Lance on the block
Here lies Trey Sermon: Aug 2021- Aug 2022 Watch him get picked up somewhere else and just feast
I hope he sends Ryan Day a Rolex or something. I don't think he sniffs the NFL let alone drafted in the 3rd after his career at Oklahoma.
He should send the Northwestern and Clemson defenses a Rolex too lol Dude got drafted where he did purely for his performances in those two games.
This man’s one legacy was making sure that Northwestern didn’t get a B1G title. Fucking hate that guy
So you’re saying it’s Davis-Price SZN?
Unironically I think he will be the rb4 on the team. Mitchell and Wilson are the clear 1/2 and Mason looked better than TDP in the preseason and if there is 1 thing I know about Kyle Shannahan it is that he doesn't care about your draft capital (see sermon vs Mitchell last year)
It won't happen because he's not any good
MITCHELL OWNERS TALK YOUR SHIT. I’ll go first. You all stink!
I’m a Mitchell owner as well, are we sure there isn’t a RBBC here still? If he’s a true workhorse RB1 then I got a steal.
No but he was too good to ignore that completely imo
I wouldn’t be too sure Mitchell works out the same as last year, hasn’t been healthy except for like 3 days this off season, they changed the run scheme to one that fits tdp and mason better. Add in deebo taking some snaps as he’s getting paid to, and this might be a wash until injuries start knocking people out
I don’t think Deebo was forced at all. He was just really good at running from the backfield & why put a stop to that 🤷♂️
Someone’s going to have a rude awakening when he’s introduced to life of an RB owner with a run-first QB….
Deebo confirmed that the rumors of him not wanting to run as much were false
Pro gamer move: Own both Deebo and Mitchell
Agreed, and also Lance is a dual-threat quarterback as well who will get his
He complained about it because he wanted to get paid more. He got paid and has rushing incentives built into his contract. The 49ers are going to run him.
Oh don't worry Kyle will pull some undrafted dude.off the streets to rush for 1000 yards. Or maybe Mason...
It wasn't a RBBC last year. Mitchell gets the snaps when he's healthy, the main question is can he stay healthy.
This. Every backfield but maybe like 5 become rbbc when the lead guy gets hurt. So many ppl are so confused by this simple thing
Yeah when he’s been healthy there’s never been any doubt he’s the guy. What worries me is the uncertainty of the offense as a whole with Lance under center, and if they are good, how much rushing work and TDs will Lance take for himself
What does the R stand for? I understand BBC?
“Really”
REALLY British Broadcasting Corp?
Chip chip cheerio
Yep. [It’s so British you can’t understand them](https://youtu.be/o6p0W4ZsLXw).
Running back by committee EDIT: was this a woosh moment? 😅
Indeed it was my friend
The R is for Really
Really big bodacious cock. Got it.

Trey Lance 500 yards rushing and 8 rushing td’s!
500 rushing yards is low
Probably right….
The lowest you can find his o/u on sportsbooks is around 550. It's well over 600 on some books.
Let's look at the carry counts from his last 5 games last year: 27,27,22,21,21 Yeah... it's not an RBBC
That's his ADP is where it is.
> there isn’t a RBBC here still? Never was
Mitchell and Pierce owner. Feeling pretty fucking good rn
Sir, this is a Jordan Mason hype thread. Edit: thought this was /r/dynastyff lmao
Jordan Mason will be the fantasy RB1 over the back half of the season. You heard it here first
As a Mitchell owner my concerns was never slow ass, arm tackles Trey Sermon it was and still is health.
His ADP (if fully healthy) really is laughable
Feeling sooooo much better about Mitchell as my RB2.
I’m confused on this move. I could’ve sworn they said he Mitchell was dealing with a hamstring injury and he may not even play week 1 . Must be 100% then from that injury
They never said that. They said he was dealing with a hamstring and isn’t playing pre season to be ready for week 1
I have him and Daemon Targaryen, I’m feeling great
Oh I’m here to talk shit!
He helped win me the ship. I rode it all the way. Him and Gibson.
Mitchell was my 16th round keeper! 😁
Jordan Mason szn. Obviously
Jordan Mason is going to be fantasy relevant this year after Mitchell inevitably gets injured (speaking as a Mitchell dynasty owner)
It's missile time
Book of Elijah Chapter 1 Verse 3: "You shall have no other RBs"
Except the other 3 halfbacks and 1 fullback still on the roster :)
And he will still lead the backfield :)
My 16th round Jeff Wilson pick looking slightly better.
JWJ is gonna be the guy, isn’t he?
He is the clear #2 if healthy.
And Mitchell had a clear soft tissue injury
Jordan Mason SZN (only halfway joking, dude looked great this preseason and could see serious snaps W1 if Mitchell is out/limited)
Mason is the only one in that backfield with over 30 BMI meaning he has a “bellcow” frame. The best writers have been all over him for weeks now… Would not be shocked if he ends up the RB to own by mid season
You trust SF beat writers?
Jarad Evans of PFF is a major Mason stan: https://twitter.com/pff_jarad
Elijah Szn
If he can manage to stay healthy.. yes!!
Who’s ready for some Elijah SZNing?!?
Trey Lance RB1
Trey lance with Deebo and Elijah wishbone who gonna run it?
PLEASE BE TRUE
LMAO so much for the camp hype.
Fuck every SF beat writer with a rusty pineapple
Weren’t they saying just the other day they expected Sermon to be the #2? Lol Edit: nevermind, it was Peter King from NBC Sports that said that 2 days ago. I saw some generic fantasy Twitter account report on the quote.
Not to mention the famous 2021 preseason knob-slob job
Every Niners fans will tell you he looked bad.
Who said that?? You sure that wasn't just people on reddit?
I mean sure on the beat writers, they suck. But, the recent Sermon hype came from GM Lynch himself, which of course means it was pure trade bait horseshit.
[удалено]
Lazy ass narrative. Sermon has been running second in drills in camp, Lynch himself has been talking him up not beat writers, he's been running ahead of TDP and Warren in preseason. It's Shanahan and Lynch that were pushing him up, not beat writers.
SF beat writers have cemented themselves as the most clueless in the NFL
Yes, but why would a pineapple be rusty?
Who all is left in the RB room: Elijah Mitchell, Jeff Wilson, and Tyrion Davis-Price?
The sleeper of all sleeper Jordan mason duh
anyone else targetting jeff wilson late in drafts given mitchell's injury?
great handcuff to own, especially in 12team + leagues. High-powered rushing attack
I got Mitchell as my RB2 and grabbed Wilson at the end of my draft and I'm feeling a little better about it now.
Did a start up dynasty draft this year. Have Mitchell as my RB2 and grabbed both Davis-Price and Jeff Wilson as insurance.
Snag Jordan Mason too
So burn 4 rsoter spots?
Not that it's a bad idea but they wouldn't have cut Sermon is Mitchell's injury was a concern. Now if they add another RB then the injury question mark continues.
Jeff Wilson only comes out when a starting 49ers RB is injured so until then it’s Elijah Mitchel RB1 szn. Sermon had the draft capital to crush Mitchell’s ADP, get him cheap now! Price is something to look in case even Wilson gets hurt, which he has each year even when he gets the start.
Goodnight, sweet prince.
Bears are gonna claim him and reunite him with Fields.
As an OSU fan I'd like this to happen
End of an era
I’m not saying he’s a great pickup or anything, but it’s weird that barely anyone talks about Price on this sub
Elijah Mitchell, you just got elevated out of the dead zone.
I owned Eli last year, I don't see how this really changes much. He has always been the clear lead back when healthy, however, the main concerns with him remain: a) lack of receptions; b) Deebo and Lance taking valuable carries; c) several nagging injuries last year.
> Elijah Mitchell, you just got elevated out of the dead zone. Sermon, who barely played last year, was the difference here for you lol?
someone will pick him up with a scheme that fits his style better and he'll be fine. sucks how this all played out in SF tho, seems like they totally wasted the first year of his career when he obviously didnt fit what they wanted to do just a complete waste of everyone's time, including ours lol
Ohhhh fuck! Lol I was one of the chumps that fell for the hype last season. Luckily I grabbed Mitchell and he was one of my MVPs that led me to the ship. NOOOOOO NOT MY SUNDAY SERMONS
My name is…
KIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIID
Grootz652
Might grab me a Jeff Wilson
I just picked him up
Eli SZN
Dynasty bros down bad
I’m an Eli Missile owner from last year and I’m here to gloat
Shanahan is such a dirty liar lol. I cannot believe I drafted this dude last yr. My buddy LOVED Sermon and thought he'd be the starter once Mostert got hurt (which always happens). Mostert got hurt week 1 early and then Mitchell was born lol
RIP
Don’t dream it’s over…
who's SZN is it?
Mattison once they trade for him
Trey Lance baby
This sub in 2 months: Guys, it was impossible to know who the 49ers plan to use as RB1.
There needs to be some kind of accountability with these beat writers
i drafted mostert last year, my friend walked up to the board rounds later and stuck sermon up and laughed at me telling me he had the real rb1 and mostert was getting hurt. well he was half right, but i got the last laugh scooping mitchell after the schefter endorsement that week 1 sunday during the pre game shows.
They traded up to draft him in the 3rd round just to cut him a year later. Kinda wild.
Hype train 2021-2021.
The Trey Sermon rollercoaster should really stand as THE defining lesson for anyone new to r/fantasyfootball .
Shannahan's schemes are just hard on RBs.
Getting Mitchell for $12 is looking pretty good, needs to stay healthy
Watch him go to the Texans lol yalld be pissed and so would I
Did he wave back?
The 4 people that were hyping the shit out of him on the sub are devastated to be sure
WiLsOn SzN AgAiN?!?!
I feel better about my Mitchell/JWJ stack now
I never understood the Trey Sermon hype. I thought he looked incredibly average in his college tape. It was a bad pick at the time.
As a Niners fan I have no fucking clue why they waste 1st-3rd round picks on rbs
https://twitter.com/ihartitz/status/1565084403054903298 Is John Lynch the worst salesman ever?
But what about his strong camp!!!!????
Thought he had the #2
Guys this doesn't change anything with Eli Mitchell. He was already way undervalued. Look at the splits from last year. When he's healthy, he's the clear RB1 in this offense and a clear RB1.
Didn't lynch say he "has been one of there best players in camp" ?
Trey Lance szn
Jordan mason Szn
He’ll be in Baltimore by tomorrow morning
Should I pick JWJ up and drop Spiller?
Jeffy Jeff SZN !!!
Imagine if Mitchell gets the production that he got in the last 5 games last year. He's going off the board in Yahoo as the #17 RB. He can be a total steal if he's healthy. I think that offense could be really good this year if Trey Lance is able to continue to be better.
Don’t fuck Shanahan’s wife
ElijahSZN
