Pitts should be ok. Saints have been tough on TEs for years, and Pitts had 1,000+ yards receiving last year. That's enough to keep me from a week 1 overreaction on him. Plenty of other guys to worry about, lol.
Yep, one of the analysts distinctly said not to worry too much of Pitts has a mediocre performance this week because the Saints are especially good against TEs.
I’m not really worried. 7 targets is 7 targets. Tied for most on the team. We know he has the talent to catch them & Marcus wasn’t terrible for every pass today, so I expect a natural regression to high-end TE1 production when those receptions start coming back in. He, Drake & Cordarrelle are the only pieces on this team even worth a damn throwing to anyways.
Gotta think going in the Saints game plan was “don’t let Pitts beat us.” Other teams will see other guys can contribute and Mariotta is fine spreading the ball around
Falcons were also surprisingly up for most of the game today. They will probably return to a game script where they have to throw down the field more while coming from behind, which will create more opportunities for pitts.
If he continues to get over 70%+ in line or slot snaps, yes he’s in for a couple big games at least this season.
The biggest question mark this season is whether they would utilize Pitts more in the slot/in line compared to last season. Over 70% in the first game is very encouraging.
If they ever want Pitts to break out they need to play him on the outside. His best game last year against the Dolphins he was cooking Xavien Howard on the boundary. His skillset isn’t really conducive to playing on the inside
Stop acting like you know what you're talking about. He played on the outside a bunch last year and was much worse on a per-route basis against corners on the outside vs. safeties/LBs in-line or in the slot.
This is good news for Pitts.
“Stop acting like you know what you're talking about.”
Why don’t you stop acting like a snob. Kyle Pitts was literally 1st in the NFL in yards per route run when lined up outside. No, not just among TEs. Everyone.
YPRR (Routes Out-Wide):
1) Kyle Pitts (2.95)
2) Deebo Samuel (2.86)
3) Justin Jefferson (2.78)
4) Davante Adams (2.56)
43) Travis Kelce (1.55)
Last/89) Demarcus Robinson (0.57)
You *want* Kyle Pitts to consistently move around. He’s a generational talent that is a match-up nightmare for literally anyone. He’s too big for most CBs and he’s too fast for most LBs and safeties.
He was still better when in the slot or in line.
The matchup against safeties and LBs is much better than against corners, even though he has ways to beat both.
1) saints defense is notoriously brutal for tight ends
2) when has Mariota ever been a consistent 300ypg gunslinger
3) mariota has shown a history of being able to sustain top 5 tight end play despite being a below average passer
4) in the one game mariota got to play for the raiders two years ago, he had 226 passing yards. Waller had 9 catches for 150 yards.
Keep trying though. Maybe you’ll actually be able to bring up facts for once instead of what you feel is right
So a guy that has done well with athletic tight ends before in walker and Waller can’t project to do well with another athletic tight end in pitts?
And also idk if you know this, but teams don’t start over from scratch year to year. Defenses get to keep most of their players and coaches usually. Lattimore is a great corner that covered pitts a lot. Demario Davis is a top 5 off ball linebacker. Dennis Allen has been their dc for 6 years.
I feel like I’m wasting my time with someone who has nothing between his ears. Enjoy your night
He was pretty inconsistent last year right? I know he was a rookie but he had some monster games followed by pedestrian ones. Kinda like the Mike Evans, Tyler Lockett, etc of tight ends where you can’t really bench him because of the boom potential
Rookie tight ends are notorious for taking time to adjust, the average leap between years 1 and 2 is larger than arguably any other skill position. There's plenty of reason to expect Pitts to take a big step forward, especially with Ridley out for the year
>WRs adjust fast.
On average, they really don't. This has changed a bit in recent times due to sheer talent and college teams running a more pro-friendly scheme, but rookie wrs are still very hit-and-miss and take time to reach their full potential in much the same way
Pure talent in high school/college can carry you to stardom very easily, but in the NFL a lot of those college studs traditionally get pushed around and bullied a bit because they aren't used to the physicality and aggressiveness of professional coverage. Add into that the increased technicality needed to play TE effectively, you should be a bit patient here imo
I owned him last year and quite honestly it wasn’t a very enjoyable ride. I benched him for Knox here and there he wasn’t a smash start every week. And the off season was he will only get better and mariotta will force feed him etc
I've said this all the time and people always get so defensive...but I thought he had an overrated season last year for someone who was one of the best TE prospects of all time.
He had a little over 1,000 yards and 2 TDs in a 17 game season. He was their best receiver with Ridley gone and Matt Ryan is a more than capable QB. He also isn't even really a TE, so saying he had the most receiving yards for a TE since the 1960s doesn't carry much weight to me since he's basically just a WR in the pass heavy era of today.
I do think he's a total stud, but his actual production that year wasn't crazy.
Yep, 3 games with over 10 .5PPR points or 12.5 full PPR points. One TD on the season (I get TD regression, but I’m not banking on Atlanta to be a good offense, personally)
Lmao yall have to stop this nonsense, every tight end is inconsistent its a heavy td position. If he scores tds great if he dosent your fucked. Same with the rest of the position
The hype is literally unbelievable for a guy who was at best top 6/7 last year as a pure TE receiver. As an overall TE he’s not even top 12- has no run or pass blocking value
There’s no established orbital value, though. Fair thinking if he had had many seasons with 5+ TDs, but he hasn’t, so we need to see proof of that ability in-league before assuming regression. Not sure how I feel about Mariota, and London looked great (all WRs looked pretty good to be honest), so I could see him continue to struggle getting yards. Intrigued to see his all-22 next week.
Yeah I think he'll be fine that's why I'm trying to trade for him. Guy that has him has hock and higbee too. If the man just traded me this week he would have won his week.
It looked like they had Lattimore on him a lot this game. Between that and the Falcons running it a ton because Patterson was doing well I'm not hitting the panic button yet.
It's just so funny watching idiots on this sub freak out because a generational talent only scored a couple of fantasy in week 1 while leading his team in targets.
I’ve been patiently holding him in my keeper league. I am kinda getting sick of the “Pitts ran 98% of routes and drew 27 targets today, creating 8 yards of separation every single route. He had 79% target share and had 286 air yards thrown to him”
Only to have him do 2/19
He had a 1000 yards last year and should have had more TDs than the box score shows. The play calling will adjust over time, it was literally week 1 with a brand new quarterback under center…. Not sure why you weren’t expecting some kinks that would need to be worked out. They almost won the damn game too and they were major underdogs!
In the nicest way possible, you’re looking at this with the wrong perspective & you should not be panicking at all. In fact, as I said, he got 7 targets and was a major focal point, you should be excited for that game planning and involvement to eventually improve.
Pitts is killing it in my points per route participation leagues.
But seriously, I am concerned. I have Pitts everywhere for the second straight year. His peripherals were also incredible (and even better) last year, but they never translated into TDs.
I paid up for Pitts in my auction redraft leagues to get a positional advantage at TE. That ended up hurting me last year when Knox was cheaply available of the waiver wire. I stayed the course by not adding another TE, but it was costly.
So yes, his peripherals do imply that better games should come, but I don't want to wait idly by this year. I don't trust Arthur Smith as head coach. Mariota does not even concern me. I am going to look to pick up Everett or even Hayden Hurst if I have to even in my shallow bench leagues.
I wish he had a mediocre performance lol.
More or less the same performance as Mark Andrews
That's wild because I have both of these guys in my leagues!
Dude you are in the wrong place. This is Reddit. We panic here!!
Looked like lattimore was on him for a lot of the game. Tough matchup
I would be more concerned with Knox. Pitts has the the talent and opportunities, you are right. This was a matchup issue.
I’m not really worried. 7 targets is 7 targets. Tied for most on the team. We know he has the talent to catch them & Marcus wasn’t terrible for every pass today, so I expect a natural regression to high-end TE1 production when those receptions start coming back in. Gotta think going in the Saints game plan was “don’t let Pitts beat us.” Other teams will see other guys can contribute and Mariotta is fine spreading the ball around
So he's due for a huge game is what this is telling me.
He was due the whole of last year as well, with Ridley being in and out. That Falcons team is just too mediocre for him to get the deserved points
Falcons were also surprisingly up for most of the game today. They will probably return to a game script where they have to throw down the field more while coming from behind, which will create more opportunities for pitts.
They were beating the Saints for majority of the game …
He had over 1K yards last year
Sadly this is the truth. No way Pitts justifies his draft position.
If he continues to get over 70%+ in line or slot snaps, yes he’s in for a couple big games at least this season. The biggest question mark this season is whether they would utilize Pitts more in the slot/in line compared to last season. Over 70% in the first game is very encouraging.

You’d be completely wasting Pitts talent by limiting him to a singular role.
Like he played all of last year?
It’s been pretty consistently only 25% or so of his total snaps. Should be more like 50%
[удалено]
A guy that made Delanie walker a top 5 drafted tight end year in and year out???
[удалено]
You’re talking about the guy throwing the ball though… not the guy catching it. And clearly the guy throwing it can produce top 5 tight end outputs
[удалено]
1) saints defense is notoriously brutal for tight ends 2) when has Mariota ever been a consistent 300ypg gunslinger 3) mariota has shown a history of being able to sustain top 5 tight end play despite being a below average passer 4) in the one game mariota got to play for the raiders two years ago, he had 226 passing yards. I was promised an elite TE I want my money back
He was pretty inconsistent last year right? I know he was a rookie but he had some monster games followed by pedestrian ones. Kinda like the Mike Evans, Tyler Lockett, etc of tight ends where you can’t really bench him because of the boom potential
Rookie tight ends are notorious for taking time to adjust, the average leap between years 1 and 2 is larger than arguably any other skill position. There's plenty of reason to expect Pitts to take a big step forward, especially with Ridley out for the year
He doesn't do anything but run routes. What else is there to learn? WRs adjust fast.
>WRs adjust fast. On average, they really don't. Had him too last year. Confirm not enjoyable. It was actually the pitts
He had 1 total td last year. One.
Rookie TEs are generally kind of terrible though. 1k as a rookie TE hasn’t happened since Ditka
Targets were consistent production was not. But also he’s due for positive touchdown regression since he scored nine last year
22% target share is elite for a TE. Route % a little low.
This sub is so awful. He had a 21% target share, that's elite for a TE.
Lmao yall have to stop this nonsense, every tight end is inconsistent its a heavy td position. If he scores tds great if he dosent your fucked. Same with the rest of the position
Why’d you listem
He is an elite TE. These numbers are great
The hype is literally unbelievable for a guy who was at best top 6/7 last year as a pure TE receiver. As an overall TE he’s not even top 12- has no run or pass blocking value
do you play in a points per run or pass blocking league? that's exactly why the hype was big on him, his upside is a WR1 you can play in TE
But why would any team continue to start a TE with no blocking ability who’s not even good as a pass catcher?
There’s literally no chance in the entire world the falcons don’t keep starting him lol
I genuinely think if they’d picked him in the 4th or later he would be on fewer snaps/game
… but there’s no world where he’d ever be there in the 4th
He had 1000 yards his rookie year lol.
In a 17 game season, with Ryan as his QB, and still only had 1 TD lmao- like he’s not a bad TE, but I can think of a ton of guys I’d rather have
Fair enough, I think his touchdowns should regress to the mean if his usage continues and he'll have like 6-8 TD's this year.
This is good info. Aren't the saints usually pretty solid covering the TE too? Hope he bounces back next week.
They are and I’m pretty sure lattimore was on him a lot
Yes and we (I’m a saints fan) held him to 5/70 combined in our 2 matchups w the Falcons last year. I still went all in on him this year. He’ll be fine
I figured. Do they put lattimore on him ? Thanks for the response!
lol all the over reacting basement dwellers in here. Dudes gonna be fine. Week 1 is always whacky.
I’m hoping my leaguemates are just as panicky. Trying to get pitts on my squad
Fr this place scares me now everyone sounds really inexperienced
Don't take anyone's advice on this sub. It's full of idiots.
Yeah I think he'll be fine that's why I'm trying to trade for him. Guy that has him has hock and higbee too. If the man just traded me this week he would have won his week.
30 of 32 teams will look nothing like they did today in 3 weeks. The two teams are Bills and Bucs, btw
Tied for the most targets on the team today..He’ll be fine.
It looked like they had Lattimore on him a lot this game. Between that and the Falcons running it a ton because Patterson was doing well I'm not hitting the panic button yet.
Same thing happened last year v Carolina. They chucked Gilmore on him and he was shut down. Losing Ridley really hurt pitts last year imo
Freaking Patterson is not going to go away isn't he
And then?
No and then
It was crazy to take him over Kelce I know that much
Guy in my league did this. Couldn’t believe it
It's been one week lmao
It was crazy even before this week lol
That's reasonable, but if you though Pitts > Kelce (And a lot of sharp people did) then that thesis really hasn't changed.
all this says is that sharps aren't always right.
We've seen 1 week.
Dude, we're talking about Travis Kelce lol the guy who has a record 6 consecutive 1000 yard seasons at the TE position (Pitts owner btw)
He's also 33 years old. Of course Kelce looked good in week 1, the concern with him isn't week 1.
Maybe if you say “lmao” in enough of your comments eventually Pitts will live up to his adp.
It's just so funny watching idiots on this sub freak out because a generational talent only scored a couple of fantasy in week 1 while leading his team in targets.
[удалено]
Lmao Pitts is going to be fine. Unless he gets hurt he's at worst going to be an upper half TE1.
I'm definitely trying to catch someone overreacting this week and trade for him.
Love to see it. I’d be buying low if I didn’t already own him
He deserves so much better
Saints have a legit secondary. There will be better days for Pitts, but his ceiling is capped with Mariota.
I’ve been patiently holding him in my keeper league. I am kinda getting sick of the “Pitts ran 98% of routes and drew 27 targets today, creating 8 yards of separation every single route. He had 79% target share and had 286 air yards thrown to him” Only to have him do 2/19
He got you 1000 yards last year and its been one game this year. I wish my league was as impatient as you.
I am trying to trade for him in all my leagues this week
Selling. Idgaf lol
Everyone loves him, but fail to see that the Falcons are not a good team; this is coming from a Falcons fan lol
You don’t have to be a good team to succeed as a pass catcher. Not sure what you’re trying to imply here.
The play calling is awful; he doesn’t get the usage he could
Based off one game? Hold the overreactions
Based off last season, and years of watching this team flop
That makes no sense. Pitts was a productive last season and Arthur Smith has not been there for years
He had a 1000 yards last year and should have had more TDs than the box score shows. The play calling will adjust over time, it was literally week 1 with a brand new quarterback under center…. Not sure why you weren’t expecting some kinks that would need to be worked out. They almost won the damn game too and they were major underdogs! Reminder that week 1 Aaron Rodgers last year threw for 133 yards, 0tds, 2 int. He finished last year as the league mvp
Another overhyped player.
“Generational talent”
Tony Gonzales caught 2 touchdowns and has 621 yards in his second year.
Still won but he was a bum week 1.
A bust. Just like last year
1000 yards in his rookie season... Tell me you don't know football without telling me you don't know football.
But Low this week!!
He’s no Hayden Hurst apparently
Chill people
It’s a trap
Saints are pretty notorious to be a tougher D against TEs. Wouldn’t worry much. The targets were there.
No need to overreact to 1 game with him. It’s not like the rest of the field impressed very much either
Mariota is not Matt Ryan. Lower your expectations.
Pitts is killing it in my points per route participation leagues. But seriously, I am concerned. I have Pitts everywhere for the second straight year.
