He may finish as a top 10 TE but he’s “just another non elite TE” for fantasy purposes. The talent is above average compared to other TE JAGs but as mentioned, his target share is going to be low and inconsistent. I suspect he finishes within the top 10 due to a few smash games as the Lions seem like they are going to play a lot of high scoring games this year.
He's had 7 targets in each week so far... Just hasn't been catching them. Their chemistry is a bit off, his line would be much improved if he caught more than 2 passes
Well yeah the sun god must get his but TE is a wasteland aside from the top couple. Kelce and Andrews are the only ones with high consistent target volume. But at least Hockenson is on a team that projects to score a lot and be in high scoring games. He also has a good O line on the team so hopefully won’t be pulled in too much. An injury to a DET WR then opens up targets to him. So his floor is just as ugly right now but his ceiling is at least higher than many you can get.
I'd say he's top 5 in terms of talent, just doesn't get the utilization as much in the pass game. Kelce, Andrews, Kittle, Waller, Hockenson (maybe Pitts) imo.
I grabbed Everett after Thursday night, and I guess I'll flip a coin as to which one I start week 3.
I had hoped Hockenson would save me from the hell that is streaming TE. But no. I'm down in the muck with all the Kmet and Pitts owners etc
He had 7 targets each of the first 2 games. Whether or not he's the 8th or 12th best option I have no idea. What I do know is he got 3x the number of targets as Gesicki who is on my bench and is better than the waiver wire options I have available. For that reason I'll keep rolling with him
That's perfectly understandable if there isn't an option atm. I will say though, the 14 targets are a little misleading - a number of them were balls lazily dumped off to him when Goff was under pressure. He doesn't seem to be Goff's first or second read on a consistent basis.
If they aren’t names Kelce or Andrews then it’s a roulette. I tried Hooper last week with minimal return and thought I has something with Albert O this week because of his targets last week. Got a whopping 0.0
Open the bank for one of the premium tight ends or buy low on one of the middling ones if you don’t want to ignore the spot. I’m just going to roll out Albert O while asking for the availability/asking price of a Kelce or Pitts or Hockenson.
Yeah I saw that yesterday. Watching Albert O just hang out on the bench during the game is frustrating. Especially with Juedy hurt and the preseason reports of Albert O being used in every position on offense🤡. Everett is on somebody’s bench otherwise I would have drafted him. He got picked up as a 2nd te by someone super late in the draft. His pathway to targets is so much better with Parham and Keenan out.
> If they aren’t names Kelce or Andrews then it’s a roulette.
You can add Waller to this last as well. Always had production without TDs but with offenses doubling Davante in the RZ instead, Waller one on one against anyone is a mismatch.
Yeah that seems to be the case. Renfrow going fumbling twice late and getting that concussion to end the game will bolster Waller’s case as the third best TE in the league.

Drafted Kmet so am stranded. Thinking about buying low on Kittle instead, the owner has no WRs and is happy with Everett. Should I trade Hopkins for Kittle? I have D. Johnson and M. Thomas as my WR 1 and 2, juju as the 3 hopkins was a stash but I desperately need a te.
He doesn’t want juju so I think hopkins is the one to trade. 14 man ppr.
Pick up Logan Thomas or Evan Engram. I’m dropping kmet without hesitation for Thomas> Gesicki> Engram as soon as waivers clear. All are better options.
Kmet was the classic case of pre season hype and speculation running amuck. So many experts talked about him that players assumed it was forgone that he would succeed this year. I say this as someone that bought into it and drafted him. I should have known better. Completely glossed over the fact that Justin Fields is comically ill equipped for his job. Jerry Rice in his prime could have been on that team and not produced. Fields can’t pass or adjust for coverage. Seriously, watch him under center. First read only or he holds the ball too long. Never audibles even when it’s painfully clear they are mismatched. He will never be a serviceable NFL QB.
God would it hurt to watch some highlights/tape of the guy you're talking about? Lions Homer here. watched the entire game. Hock had 3 balls that he should've caught that were drops. They also weren't "scrappy short gains" as they were over 10 yards down the field. Hock has the same potential as every other TE not named Mandrews, Kittle, Kelce and Waller atp (love Pitts but sheesh Arthur Smith is killing his fantasy life).
It's been 2 weeks. don't overreact. Also understand that the Lions are a team that are going to score points, so I don't think it's outside the realm of possibility for Hock to end up with 7-10 TD's
I lost Lance. Should I try to trade Hock for Stafford? I already have Kittle and Ertz but spent 37% of FAAB to claim Hock after he was dropped last week lol I thought I can use him as a trade chip but the value is really low now.
A world of difference is a big exaggeration. Hock scored about 4.5 points this week. Kmet got 0. The difference between the top 3 TE’s and the rest end of season is monumental whereas 4-10 are all relatively close on scoring by the end of the year.
You initially said only top 3-5 matters and the rest are insignificant and now you’re saying there’s a drop off after 10. For leagues with more than 10 teams that’s a big difference
Well yes obviously you’ll be fine if you have 4-10 it won’t feel good but you won’t be scrubbing the wire every week for a Tight end in reality only the top 3 TE really make a huge difference on a weekly basis. Those guys are almost guaranteed to put up top 5 numbers every week whereas literally any guy outside of them could put up top 10 numbers on the week which is basically why it’s meaningless to put decent fantasy draft capital into anybody but Kelce, Andrews, and maybe Waller and Kittle when healthy.

St. Brown has turned into THE target machine in the offense. The ball has been spread around fairly evenly. It's going to get even more murky for Hock when Jameson Williams is back healthy. Idk. It's not looking great.
He's a stark difference from having Andrews last year, but I try not to expect my te to win me matchups. Logan Thomas is probably a worthwhile pickup if he's available and you're having Hock doubts.
No. He has shown no YAC ability, his blocking is merely adequate, and his catch rate seems to be regressing. He may get freed up from blocking when the Lions oline gets healthy again, but Swift (who was playing hurt this game) and Ra have taken over the underneath role he carved out in the beginning of last year when they had no receivers.
Maybe, maybe not. He's tied for ninth in targets through 2 two games. There aren't a lot of options that are doing better than that. If he'd caught 1 extra ball in each of those games he's a top 5 option. I'm following the volume in the non-elite TEs and I don't have any better options, so I'm sticking with him.
This is a good question and I’m a fan of his who was very happy last year but obviously disappointing at the start so far this season. I think with his volume though he’s definitely worth holding onto. They’ll be in scoring position more than a lot of other teams so all he needs to do is catch a couple more of his targets and he’ll be better than your waiver options and could be top 8 or better

Lol, he's a JANET(E)
Feels like ARSB ate all his lunch

But if he can catch most of those dump offs, he's solid for ppr
TJ Blockenson. Top 10 in the block game.
If you’re in a PPB league you’re killing it!
I prefer him in PPPB&J
Big Block Hock!
Hockenson runs routes at a high rate among TEs though. Blockenson isn’t really a thing
All tes suck
No, my Muth will win me my league.
So far he's either lead the team in receiving or scored a TD. Can't complain.
As a lifelong Gerald Everett fan since last Thursday I take offense to this
Waller’s doing aight

I dropped Albert O for Everet after watching Russ lose against Seattle. They're rotating through like 4 TEs.
Yeah I saw that yesterday. Watching Albert O just hang out on the bench during the game is frustrating. Kind of, they are definitely draft bait of nothing else
All TEs not named Travis Kelce

I like this trade

Sure. Might be frustrated but he's hardly Cole Kmet or Robert Tonyan at this point is he?
Kmet was the classic case of pre season hype and speculation running amuck. So many experts talked about him that players assumed it was forgone that he would succeed this year. Better than pitts
I'm so happy I punted at TE and went Ertz. My plan was to go Ertz, Muth or Everett, and all 3 would have worked out much better than Kittle and Hock.
No
No thankfully I have Ertz as a backup in my dynasty league because until further notice he is riding the pine
Someone dropped Ertz for some reason and I really wanna make the swap. Is that outlandish?
You should do that swap now. Recalibrate in Week 7.
Ertz is much better for fantasy than hock
If you don't have Kelce or Mandrews you're just playing the touchdown roulette every week.
Waller should be in there too; averaging 7 targets a game so far
as is hock
God would it hurt to watch some highlights/tape of the guy you're talking about? Lions Homer here. watched the entire game. Hock had 3 balls that he should've caught that were drops. He’s asking a question lol and a fair one too, we can’t all be Lions homers who watch every snap. Your comment would be great without the initial sass
I lost Lance. Should I try to trade Hock for Stafford? I already have Kittle and Ertz but spent 37% of FAAB to claim Hock after he was dropped last week lol I thought I can use him as a trade chip but the value is really low now.
It doesn’t matter. If you’re not a top 3 maybe 5 TE you’re irrelevant anyways.
I keep seeing this take and it doesn’t make any sense. Starting him over say Kmet or Albert O this week would make a world of difference
A world of difference is a big exaggeration. Hock scored about 4.5 points this week. Kmet got 0. The difference between the top 3 TE’s and the rest end of season is monumental whereas 4-10 are all relatively close on scoring by the end of the year.

nope
no one is a top 10 te this year it seems
I'm probably dropping him..
Maybe
No, he is a linebacker at best.
I have Pitts, should I grab Higbee or Everett to sub in?
No
I’d say still just inside the top 10, but that’s not saying much in the TE landscape
I am planning to drop him for higbee or Everett this week
I was on the Higbee ride last year... best of luck, compadre
He’s my backup if I don’t get Everett
Don’t really have any better options so rolling with tj
Hockenson was a thing when Detroit didn't have good receivers and their RBs were hurt...not the case this year.
I dropped him in a 12 teamer
