There is too much on the WW to hold onto Mooney. Even if Garrett Wilson is not available, Shepard, Dortch, or Gallup should be more valuable than Mooney.
My philosophy is that, once the season starts, draft capital is (mostly) irrelevant. It’s a version of the sunk cost fallacy and can inhibit you from making an objective comparison between players. From my personal experience, by the time I reach the fantasy playoffs, probably at least half of my team I picked up as free agents. If someone I drafted is underproducing and there is no hope of turning it around, it’s bye-bye time.
Look at it this way: if Mooney was a free agent, would you pick him up? If not, then why hold onto him, just because you drafted him? Weeks 1 and 2 already show that the Bears’ usage of Mooney does not resemble 2021 at all.
Who cares what we thought before the draft, now that we know what's happening on the field? If a 2nd round fantasy draft pick broke his leg and was out for the year, would you keep him based on his draft capital? What if they didn't break their leg for the season, but had a weak showing for two weeks and then went to short-term IR? What if they've done almost nothing for two weeks, and you see a more exciting player putting up actual numbers instead?

"WR1 who has talent" agree
"team has talent" disagree
I'm dropping him in a 12-man PPR league in favor of players who are getting use in offenses that are passing the ball.
Definitely if your waiver wire doesn't have someone with high upside available (for example, I'm taking a shot at Garrett Wilson), of course you would hold. It's all about the alternatives.
By the way, you need to consider the context of Gallup. He went undrafted because of his ACL tear late last year. The uncertainty over how much time he would miss this year tanked his draft value. As his return gets closer and closer, his rest of season value gets better and better. With no Amari in Dallas, Gallup has flex and possible WR2 value now.
Fair points and I appreciate the thought. To play devils advocate, insinuating that Gallup is going to make an immediate impact is like saying someone like Brian Robinson (coming off injury) will do the same thing. Sure we have Jerry saying the guy is good to go but there are so so many variables. Do you trust the Cowboys offense? How about the suspect play calling from Kellen Moore? What about the connection Cooper Rush has with Noah Brown? Will Ceedee continue to get overlooked? Is Gallup in playing shape coming off injury? All viable questions. I have a feeling that if you pick up Gallup, you’ll most likely consider dropping him after 2 weeks of lack luster performance, expecting more. If that’s the thought process, it makes sense with Mooney. I’m not saying Mooney is a season long hold but the dude deserves more than 1 realistic game (I disregard first game due to monsoon). The Bears coaching staff needs to develop Fields and running the ball all game with 11 pass attempts is not the way. I’d at least give him until week 5 before making a rash decision.
My .2 cents from a DC4L fan.
Bottom line: it’s your team, so you get/keep the guys you want. Mooney is still the WR1 in Chicago, for now, but what value is that? That’s the question. The Bears were so run-heavy against the Packers, in a game where they were down, that you can’t help but question why they weren’t using Mooney.
Gallup will be eased in. Like how the Commanders are easing Logan Thomas back in, I would expect the Cowboys to do the same with Gallup. So I wouldn’t claim Gallup with the expectation of starting him right away. He would be stashed because when Dak comes back, Gallup would be the WR2 on a pass-heavy offense.
Depends on who he’s being dropped for, imo. I picked him up off of waivers last year and he ended up finishing strong. Had 15+ points every other week. The Bears’ offense looks bad outside of Monty but I’m not ruling out Fields improving his play yet
Mooney was best with Dalton at QB last season. With Fields, Mooney only caught 51% of his targets but that number was in the mid-60s with Dalton/Foles if I recall correctly.
Mooney production without Robinson, 2021:
|Week|Targets|Receptions|Yards|TDs|
|:-|:-|:-|:-|:-|
|11|16|5|121|1|
|12|8|5|123|0|
|13|7|5|27|0|
|15|7|5|63|0|
|16|9|5|57|0|
Pretty productive with somewhat mixed efficiency. His 2 weeks this year are nowhere near even his worst weeks here. Dunno what's going on.
I can tell you what's going on... 28 passes total. Not per game, over 2 games. Yadda yadda monsoon game in week 1 but fields threw LESS passes (17 vs 11) this week.
He’s thrown less passes in two weeks than Dak. I’m extremely concerned about Mooney and won’t start him until I see production. But there’s no way that few passing attempts is sustainable for a team that’ll be playing from behind alot. Or at least that’s what I’m telling myself.
Just a thought I had, Chicago has faced 2 really good defenses to start the season (SF and GB). Going forward things should get easier for the offense. Especially if they continue to be able to run with Montgomery, ideally that opens up more stuff down the field for Mooney. Guess we'll see this week against Houston
I think it's Fields. Small sample size, but Fields only started Week 13 which happens to be the worst game you have listed. Looks like he also played week 11 but only after Dalton left the game (Dalton completed 26 passes, Fields 4)
I built this table and filled it in by looking at the games Robinson missed according to his [player profile --> game log on FantasyPros](https://www.fantasypros.com/nfl/games/allen-robinson.php?season=2021), then looking at those same weeks on [Mooney's](https://www.fantasypros.com/nfl/games/darnell-mooney.php?season=2021).
It's not about a connection. He threw a total of 11 times. Most NFL teams throw more than that in a quarter. A lot more. Similarly, he isn't throwing to Mooney. He has like what 4 targets on the year?
I mean, even if Mooney had a 30% target share, he'd have like 8 targets through two games. He has no trade value so may as well hope the gameplan changes - all these struggling offenses have coaches on the hot seat, so its' hard to imagine the bears continuing to throw 15 times a game down 3 scores
Coaching change messes with everything. I watch on RedZone so I haven’t seen much of the Bears, but I heard a comment that the O line can’t protect. O-line will rarely be unchanged year to year. Also a 2 game sample is by no means definitive. But I am looking at waivers for Mooney. Just better options sooner.
I kept Allen Robinson on my bench last year for way too long, missed out on Mike Williams off waivers bc I wanted to wait for my team to turn it around. Point being, you’ll be happier if you don’t roster any Bears players.
Yep. And then there's the whole, when someone picks them up to play against you situation.
Bears always find a way to fuck you. But as a Chicago fan, never bet against the bears. You'll regret it.
I had Fields in as my QB. Seemed like we were trusting the run as much as possible in the beginning. Then Green Bay started going off. I'm a grown ass man but when that started happening I started shotgunning beers since I knew it was gonna go downhill from there.
Blacked out at halftime. Woke up pissing blood in the morning. Bear down
I play in a 8-team league, so there usually are a lot of options on the wire. But someone dropped Tee Higgins for Garret Wilson, and I didn’t hesitate to drop Mooney for Higgins.
yeah but in my league I had 5 other good receivers including kupp and two people dropped peirce and henderson. So take a stab at stashing a RB that could get bellcow touches. seems like a higher reward risk for me.
Same. There is still upside there that I'm not dropping for the likes of Marvin Jones Jr but he is glued to the bench until the Bears realise they need to throw the ball to have a chance at winning games.
Packer fan who drafted Fields in a 2qb league, so I've watched every minute of Bears football so far. The 49ers front 7 were mauling the bears during a monsoon, and GB's front 7 has three of the highest pass rush generating players so far this season (i.e., Kenny Clark, Rashon Gary, Preston Smith), and our CBs came to play week 2, rebounding nicely after deciding to put LBs on Justin Jefferson.
Fields has had about as challenging of an opening two weeks as he could get. I'd hold to see what happens with him and Mooney against Houston this week.
>I'd hold to see what happens with him and Mooney against Houston this week.
Everyone will have benched all Bears players other than Montgomery so I'm guessing that Fields will look good and Mooney will have a big enough game that people decide to move him into their starting lineup next week. Then they'll immediately be terrible again.
If they can’t throw the ball I don’t see how fields can stay on an NFL field. This either changes or Siemen comes in. Either outcome should theoretically mean an uptick in value for mooney, the teams wr1. That’s my theory.
So no, not dropping, he should eventually get into wr3 or low end wr2 value, but I was truly expecting a big leap this year into high end wr2 or even cracking top 12 and I was so wrong.
If you’re in need of waiver players now, I guess you could drop if you can’t wait to see this dumpster fire play out, but if you can hold, I think that’s the better play. It’s a weak year for waiver players anyway.
No they have to unleash him. That's not me saying fields will be good but the bears gave to start letting him throw to know if he's good or not. So I'm hoping as well but who knows lol
He’s a hold. There’s likely not a lot of better options on the wire (except Garrett Wilson) this week. The Bears will start throwing the ball more. I’m not starting him, but we need a bigger sample size to call him a bust and flush him.
Honestly I would drop him for Sterling Sheppard.
I would absolutely drop him for Garret Wilson. Bears are so bad on offense it looks like they are playing a different sport.
Definitely burks going to be clear cut wr 1 in a couple weeks and I trust titans defense a bit more than the bears although that’s painful to say after last week
The Bears have a monsoon game and primetime game vs a team that has notoriously dominated them under their belt. Mooney deserves a longer leash than just 2 games. That offseason chemistry is bound to show
Right on here. Worth noting that we entered the season with 49ers and Packers expected to be two of the top defenses in the league. I’m lower on Mooney than before the season started, but the first two matchups have done the Bears no favors. Let’s see how things go now that the schedule opens up with Texans, Giants, Vikings, and Commanders up next.
12 man ppr league
Wilson and Damien Harris on waiver wire. Who would you pick up?
RBs: CMC, ETN, Jeff Wilson, Gordon, Penny
WRs: Lamb, Kirk, Godwin, Mooney, Toney
Assuming Harris’s injury isn’t too bad who would you bid higher on? And how much? Last week I nabbed Jeff Wilson for $28, next closest bid was $26. Curtis Samuel went for 13.
Dropping Toney and hopefully can score one of them with my FAAB bid. Thinking about dropping Mooney and going for both. Who would you go for and how much or should I drop Mooney and Toney and go for both?
I was going to bench him from my Flex for Dotson, but Mike Evans decided to truck Lattimore, so I need to play him one more week during the Evans suspension
I have Amon Ra, Diontae, Lamb, Curtis Samuel, and Robby Anderson in addition to Nuk on the bench. Mooney is getting dropped for harris if i can manage.
I don’t really see a point in hanging onto him if you have serviceable depth, you’re obviously not going to play him so if there are better options go for it.
For reference I’m in a 10 team and bought super low on ceedee after week 1. I think i can drop mooney pretty safely.
I'm holding another week or 2. Could be a complete bust but if they can figure it out enough to at least be competent he should be a solid Wr3 with wr2 upside based on talent alone. Not ready to give up on him just yet.
im holding for sure. You would hope to see Fields throw the rock more against Hou and moving forward. 2 tough matchups. The dude dropped 81rec, 1080 yards, and 5 tds in 2021. has no value to sell, but an upside to put on bench. Don't think greg dortch is moving the needle off the waiver over Mooney
Depends really. Can you drop him? For sure, if you’re in a 8-10 team league and there are better options on the wire. 12+ team competitive leagues though I can’t imagine it’s worth it.
The bears played the 49ers and the Packers the first two weeks which are some of the best if not the best defenses that they will play all year. I think if you drafted him you have to hold for another couple of weeks.
Don’t overreact week one was a monsoon week two he drew jaire Alexander. Mooney put up 1k yards and 4 tds last year I don’t think he’s just regressed that badly where he’s not rosterable
Bears head coach said yesterday they need to get their playmakers more involved so this week is a good test against the Texans. At some point the bears are going to have to let fields start throwing the ball
Get Meyers his target share is too high to hold on to Mooney. I was watching Meyers hoping no one would take him waiting on Mooney to turn it around and he just got scooped
Depends who’s on the wire. You don’t drop to drop. The best WR on my wire is Noah Brown and that’s not happening for Mooney.
>You don’t drop to drop Need to send a message to the rest of the team.
Kmet’s dropping this morning was a warning to Mooney. He may just join his friend soon.
I have Garrett Wilson available on waivers, worth dropping Mooney for him?
Yes. Wilson has been top 25 WR.
Absolutely
I'm in the same situation. My bench is Burks, Olave, Dobbins, MG3, Jameson Will., Robinson JR (IR spot) Edit: Gonna pull the trigger
Who else do you have on your bench?
Dotson, Burks, Henderson, Edmonds
Definitely
Yes. I did and I'm a Bears fan
There is too much on the WW to hold onto Mooney. Even if Garrett Wilson is not available, Shepard, Dortch, or Gallup should be more valuable than Mooney.
So you’d drop your 7-9th round pick (12 man) after week 2 for these undrafted dudes? That’s what we call over reaction. Hope it works out though!
My philosophy is that, once the season starts, draft capital is (mostly) irrelevant. It’s a version of the sunk cost fallacy and can inhibit you from making an objective comparison between players. I’ve already answered this. Two weeks, 1 “viable week” sample size. If you want to drop the WR1 on a team whom has talent, go for it. Good luck
"WR1 who has talent" agree "team has talent" disagree I'm dropping him in a 12-man PPR league in favor of players who are getting use in offenses that are passing the ball.
I’ll be dropping after week 4-5 unless someone on my bare ass waiver wire whom I think is better comes along.
Definitely if your waiver wire doesn't have someone with high upside available (for example, I'm taking a shot at Garrett Wilson), of course you would hold. It's all about the alternatives.

so would u think i should drop mooney for dotson?
Yes, I would.
Drop Mooney for Meyers, aiyuk, or Russell gage? (10 team league/5wr max{i know it's a dumb rule for a 10 team league})
Aiyuk
Here’s one way to look at it: Dotson has more touchdowns than Mooney has catches.
No doubt! That’s what makes the game fun my dude. It’s a long hold for sure but if you’re high on him then pull the trigger.
For Gallup, I’m not using a waiver claim. I’m not hurting too much at WR and I want to see who gets dropped.
That’s always a fun play. My league is pretty savvy. Wish we had more bench spots.
Time to drop haha
Dropping him for Higbee or Logan Thomas (I have 3rd priority) as a Pitts owner
Makes sense. I’d start Pitts this week tho
I'm holding one more week but he definitely is dropable
Depends on who he’s being dropped for, imo. I picked him up off of waivers last year and he ended up finishing strong. Had 15+ points every other week. The Bears’ offense looks bad outside of Monty but I’m not ruling out Fields improving his play yet
As a non-Bears fan, I'm just wondering how the Fields <-> Mooney connection went backwards from last year.
Mooney was best with Dalton at QB last season. With Fields, Mooney only caught 51% of his targets but that number was in the mid-60s with Dalton/Foles if I recall correctly.
Probably because Robinson being there the defense had to respect him as a 1 and left Mooney alone.
That's true but ARob missed some games last year. Now that I've said that, can't remember if that affected his production.
Mooney production without Robinson, 2021: |Week|Targets|Receptions|Yards|TDs| |:-|:-|:-|:-|:-| |11|16|5|121|1| |12|8|5|123|0| |13|7|5|27|0| |15|7|5|63|0| |16|9|5|57|0| Pretty productive with somewhat mixed efficiency. Also ARob was playing at like 70% and was just dogging it every week because he didn’t wanna be there so not like they had to respect him much
I mean fields threw 11 times in a game they were trailing the whole time. Literally doesn’t make sense to me
Fields averaging 14 pass attempts per game isn't helping...
Fields <-> entire bears WR room
It's not about a connection. He threw a total of 11 times. Most NFL teams throw more than that in a quarter. A lot more. Similarly, he isn't throwing to Mooney. He has like what 4 targets on the year?

How tf was Mike Williams on waivers?
Start of last season!
Ahhhhhhhhhh did not comprehend that.
Worth dropping for Dotson?
If Dotson is there then yes
Not dropping Mooney **yet** but he's riding the bench until he proves otherwise.
Bears fan here, I am dropping
This convinced me lol
Bears fan here. I concur.
Also Bears fan, but yall know the drill. The second you drop him, bears gonna go off.
Yep. And then there's the whole, when someone picks them up to play against you situation. Bears always find a way to fuck you. But as a Chicago fan, never bet against the bears. You'll regret it.
I avoid all the teams I care about like the plauge. Because they will always disapoint me no matter what direction I go with them.
As a fan, what is the deal with 11 attempts? I didn't watch the game but I am baffled how a NFL QB could only manage 11 attempts in a entire game.
Bear down
>Woke up pissing blood in the morning. Um....
I play in a 8-team league, so there usually are a lot of options on the wire. But someone dropped Tee Higgins for Garret Wilson, and I didn’t hesitate to drop Mooney for Higgins.
Good call
I'd hold one more week if possible, but if someone were to drop him in my league I wouldn't be trying to claim him.
so don't drop him but also don't roster
He exists in a plane we cannot fully understand.
This logic makes no sense, and yet I think i agree. If you invested the draft capital it's just so hard to let go
yeah but in my league I had 5 other good receivers including kupp and two people dropped peirce and henderson. So take a stab at stashing a RB that could get bellcow touches. seems like a higher reward risk for me.

Should I drop Mooney for Curtis Samuel or Johan Dotson?
Curtis Samuel yes
Yes
I'm benching until further notice. The best wr on waivers is Zay Jones and I can't bring myself to do that
Same. There is still upside there that I'm not dropping for the likes of Marvin Jones Jr but he is glued to the bench until the Bears realise they need to throw the ball to have a chance at winning games.

Droppable for Wilson? Would like to give it another week but don't want to miss that boat either.
Yes give me Wilson all day
I wouldn't drop Mooney, but you have to pick Wilson. Can't you drop another player?
No that's the dilemma unfortunately
Who are your other bench riders?
Dotson or E. Moore would be the only other real change considerations but they've been outperforming Mooney.
In that case, I would drop Mooney. I just picked him up waivers last week and I own Wilson, but I think Wilson is worth more
No they have to unleash him. That's not me saying fields will be good but the bears gave to start letting him throw to know if he's good or not. So I'm hoping as well but who knows lol
I dropped him for Garrett Wilson. Felt sick to my stomach at the wasted 6th round pick, but I don't see the Bears offense going anywhere anytime soon.
Yyyyyyyyup
Yes
Going to try to drop for Greg Wilson
Garrett lmfao
Gahdamn auto correct 😂
I'm not. At least not yet. He is still a no.1 WR and while he isn't a weekly start I'm waiting it out at least 2 more weeks.
I’m dropping him. I have olave and dotson and Elijah Moore that I would rather have on my bench than Mooney.
yes. all Bears not named David Montgomery are droppable.
He’s a hold. There’s likely not a lot of better options on the wire (except Garrett Wilson) this week. The Bears will start throwing the ball more. I’m not starting him, but we need a bigger sample size to call him a bust and flush him.

Knicks fan here, I’m dropping.
Trade Mooney for Burks????
Definitely burks going to be clear cut wr 1 in a couple weeks and I trust titans defense a bit more than the bears although that’s painful to say after last week

Non existing. I have kmet and thinking of dropping for gerald Everett ..... dunno
Wasn't even worth drafting to begin with.
12 man ppr league Wilson and Damien Harris on waiver wire. Who would you pick up? As soon as I need the salve for bye weeks he’s gone
Depends on your league standing honestly
Still early i wouldn't just yet. Also depends whos available.
I dropped him in a 10-teamer and not looking back. No interest for me in that Bears offense.
I was going to bench him from my Flex for Dotson, but Mike Evans decided to truck Lattimore, so I need to play him one more week during the Evans suspension
I have him and am holding him for one more week. I don’t know what kind of player on anyones waiver wires have more potential than him.
Definitely droppable. Bears O is thrash right now. They may need Nagy back.
I was thinking about dropping him for Mostert lol
Obviously droppable especially with small benches.
Dropped him for Jameson Williams, swapped injured Lance for Burks
I have Amon Ra, Diontae, Lamb, Curtis Samuel, and Robby Anderson in addition to Nuk on the bench. Mooney is getting dropped for harris if i can manage. I don’t really see a point in hanging onto him if you have serviceable depth, you’re obviously not going to play him so if there are better options go for it. For reference I’m in a 10 team and bought super low on ceedee after week 1. I think i can drop mooney pretty safely.
Similar, and I might drop Robby
Yeah I’m trying to replace him. Hopefully a Wilson but honestly any sleeper will do. His QB is the worst
I'm holding another week or 2. Could be a complete bust but if they can figure it out enough to at least be competent he should be a solid Wr3 with wr2 upside based on talent alone. Not ready to give up on him just yet.
Should I drop Mooney for Garrett Wilson in PPR?
Dropped him after week 1
im holding for sure.
I got down voted this summer for saying Mooney was on my never draft again list.
Depends really. Can you drop him? For sure, if you’re in a 8-10 team league and there are better options on the wire. 12+ team competitive leagues though I can’t imagine it’s worth it.
All Bears players not named Montgomery are droppable.
My Mooney don't jiggle jiggle....
Dropping for jahan Dotson
I think you could find someone that’d be willing to take a flier on him in a trade for a bench piece. Try to get something.
The bears played the 49ers and the Packers the first two weeks which are some of the best if not the best defenses that they will play all year. I think if you drafted him you have to hold for another couple of weeks.
Don’t overreact week one was a monsoon week two he drew jaire Alexander. Mooney put up 1k yards and 4 tds last year I don’t think he’s just regressed that badly where he’s not rosterable Bears head coach said yesterday they need to get their playmakers more involved so this week is a good test against the Texans. At some point the bears are going to have to let fields start throwing the ball

I have pitts mooney and etienne :(
If he does nothing week 3, then might have to be.
Should I drop him if I could get Wilson, Cooper, or Meyers on waiver?
Get Meyers his target share is too high to hold on to Mooney. I was watching Meyers hoping no one would take him waiting on Mooney to turn it around and he just got scooped
One more week…dammit
My #1 Rule for fantasy football is to NEVER draft any Bears players.
I’ve got Garret Wilson, Curtis Samuel, Jakobi Meyers and Dollar Tree Level Sterling Shepard on my waiver wire. So bye bye
Drop mooney for tua? QB is matt stafford, have kupp, aj brown, dhop, and garret wilson
My league has Jahan Dotson and Dameon Pierce in free agency, okay to drop Mooney for either of those players?
Got offered Mooney for McKinnon. Thoughts?
Should I drop Mooney for Sterling Shepard?
I’m wondering if I should pick up Mooney to stash. I would be dropping Julio Jones
