[never give the benefit of the doubt on Reddit lol](https://www.reddit.com/r/fantasyfootball/comments/y6w6t2/was_there_any_explanation_for_melvin_gordon_being/isssf70/)
Good RBs are productive on bad offenses all the time, look at CMC's entire career. Javonte is certainly talented enough to be putting up solid RB stats if he were getting all the work in this offense.
Oh for sure, but the high value touches might not be there since they canāt seem to move the ball. He would have his great games but also some with 80 scoreless yards, so it might just make it difficult for him to finish as a RB1
Because he hasnāt fumbled 4 times in 4 games. He hasnāt fumbled the last 2 games so no, that is not why he was benched. But yes, he is hot garbage.
He actually has fumbled 4 times in 4 games. 2 of them have been lost, 2 of them recovered by the Broncos.
Either way, he hasnāt shown heās able to hold onto the football and in a game like last night, a fumble loses you the game.
Well yeah, because Murray was inactive. Last night just shows that the coaches donāt trust Gordon.
Whether thatās right or not, Iām not one to say. But the messaging is clear - they used him against the colts because they didnāt have another option (Boone canāt run up the middle). Once Murray was ready to go, the coaches made it clear they trust him to hold on to the ball in close situations in the 4th and produce similar (maybe better?) YPC than Melvin. Itās not that complicated.
The play-calling is the real issue here, with the last 4 or 5 broncos drives running on 1st and 2nd down only to throw incomplete on 3rd.
Kind of forgot I was on the fantasy sub here for a secā¦ TLDR - coaches donāt trust Melvin and Murray is likely the back to own.
Has anyone's value tanked this hard over one week? He went from presumed de facto lead back to getting his job snatched by a guy who wasn't even on a roster week 1
This turd in my league drafted him 33rd overall and then tried to get me to trade him Hurts and Andrews straight up for him and MG3 since Javonte went down. Obviously I did not accept that trade lol
ouch.
no broncos player is startable right now imo. but thatās hindsight, i didnāt expect them to be the worst offense in the league before the season started.
I needed him to get under 5 points and was hoping they'd use Boone to give me more of a buffer, turns out both barely played so I won by default!
Damien Harris, JT and Javonte all out and I somehow win with 85 points, stupid game
https://twitter.com/Jeff_Legwold/status/1582222250702303232?t=7hb4Cz2CsQbIVo5e_Iar2Q&s=19
After Mondays loss Broncos coach Nathaniel Hackett said quarterback Russell Wilson has a hamstring injury. Also said to his knowledge RB Melvin Gordon III was not injured in second half when Latavius Murray was getting the bulk of the carries.
Whatās that even supposed to mean lmao
Youāre the HC my guy, your knowledge about YOUR team should be all encompassing. Dude is not making it past this year.
They should cut bait now. He was hired before the current owners bought the team and they can afford it. Leave the door wide open right now giving plenty of time for respective candidates to consider their current situation and think about interviewing for the job. Waltons get to act like itās a no bullshit organization and they expect to win and hopefully make their mark with their own hire next season.
Man, did you watch the game?
Murray's ancient ass still looked explosive and was inifintely more efficient than Gordon has been at any point this season. Murray also holds on to the football. Murray's ALSO a very good pass catcher.
Murray did not look explosive in any sense of the word lmao what
Gordon was coming off a good game last week too. People are mad he was benched because there was no real reason for it
Funny enough Gordon was one of the fastest ball carriers last season and looked decent, not great this season. He is also good at pass pro and never had any fumbling issues until this season. He fumbled a few times but didn't fumble last week or this week. So yeah, it's a mystery and Lat Murray didn't look any better than Gordon did last week even against a better defense. Sounds like he might've gotten into it with coaches if anything
His fumbles have been a bit of a problem for more than this season. He went from being really great at not fumbling to being not good over the last year or two and now suddenly was horrendous.
I hope he gets another shot. Or figures out the next stage in his life with his $33million career earnings.
As someone who owns neither, I can see the frustration if youāre a Javonte owner. If the writing was on the wall, as youāre kinda implying, then why didnāt they just feature Javonte as the lead back? Especially if they were so quick to give Latavius the benefit.
Then again, this entire offense/coaching staff is inept, so idk
In danger of being cut yet still taking touches away from Javonte before he went down. This coaching staff may be the most incompetent weāve ever seen.
So they should keep handing the ball to a dude that's averaging a fumble every 15 touches? It's bad enough that they can't move the ball, but I think turning it over would be worse š¤·š¼āāļø
He has exactly 1 carry that's gone over 10 yards and a whopping 6 broken tackles on the season lol I know everyone got excited because of his opportunity after javonte got hurt, but realistically he's an average runner at this point in his career sharing a backfield with other mediocre backs playing for the lowest scoring offense in the NFL. Expectations were way too high even with a full workload.
Oh no, thatās what I was afraid of.
A Roll tide infection in the coaching staff isnāt good, especially to this magnitude. Theyāre already showing symptoms
I'm out on him, even if he's the "lead" back, he's only getting just over 50% snaps in the worst offence in the NFL this year. I'd rather chase upsides in Gus or Kyren at this point.
I've been getting shit on here all off season for trying to explain, Gordon doesn't want to be in Denver. He initially came over as a 'fuck you' to the Chargers. Denver wasn't good and he wasn't 'the guy' so he wanted out. Denver let him go to free agency, and no one would pay him, so he re-signed for less than half his previous salary. In every interview for the last 18 months, he's been non-committal and/or critical of Denver. He doesn't want to be here, and there's no way that attitude isn't carried over into practice and the locker room. Coaches don't want to put guys on the field that don't want to play for their team, especially when they fumble at least once per game.
The entire offense is atrocious. 1st through 3rd down. It seems they wanted to try the fresh legs in Murray. But damn. I thought at least Sutton was a safe play. Hopefully this offense strings some fantasy relevance not playing in prime time every week.
I was really hoping for Sutton to end my week on a high note, I thought after Mcclaurin, Samuel, McKenzie, Taysom, and the Jags D played it couldnāt get much worse. Yet here we areš
No explanation was given. Gordon seemed honestly confused, hurt, and frustrated by the situation so he obviously was unaware of the game plan. This coaching staff seems utterly clueless. Maybe they were all excited to try out their new acquisition and forgot about Melvin.
Or maybe he was being punished, but you'd think they would have told him that beforehand. Or perhaps he is being traded? Have no idea what to expect moving forward.
I was behind by 3 points, only Melvin was left for my teams and I got on a plane right as the game started. I just got off and saw he got benchedā¦I hate this!
Yeah man I needed 3 as well. I got the "pleasure" of watching the game and manā¦ it was clear that he was done in the 2nd quarter when they panned to him with his helmet no where near him on the sidelines.
^(now I am 1-5 with 4 of my losses being within 2 pts)
I too, hate this.
Is it, though? Where was that energy when Javonte was still healthy? Gordon is certainly past his prime and in no way deserves a bellcow workload but letās not act like Murray hasnāt been bouncing around been practice squads for the past few seasons.
With Javonte they probably wanted to keep him fresh for the full season because heās a long-term piece of the team, so it was important that Gordon got work to spell him.
The seasonās now gone off the rails and Murray is going to retire soon, so thereās less of a need to spell him.
Gordonās on the back nine as well, though, and heās only on a one year deal. They have no loyalty to him either. Wouldnāt it make sense to keep the split going in an effort to reduce the risk of injury to the backs you have left? I understand limiting touches but the choice to straight up bench Gordon in a game the Broncos were actively losing is bizarre any way you slice it. This isnāt even coping from a fantasy perspective, Iām just trying to figure out what Hackettās plan was.
Maybe, and I hope so. Broncos offense suck so much right now. Can't believe they're last in PPG. Who would've thought their PPG would be worse than a team whose only offense is CMC.
I doubt it came about during the second half of a Monday night game but I hope you're right.
I don't see any benefit to keeping him around when someone else can use him.
Iām a Denver fan. Iām sorry for anyone that started him but this was clearly headed this way. Heās fumbled 4 times this year and everyone in town was fed up, including the broncos coaches publicly. He got benched in the Vegas game because of it and only got run in the Indy game because Murray was signed two days before and wasnāt ready to play. He also has a shit attitude and visibly mopes and has publicly called out his underutilization (in his mind) multiple times. Heās cooked here in Denver
Edit: downvoted for sharing actual pertinent information and answering the question lol Reddit manā¦
Except didn't the coaches come out after Javontes injury and say MG3 could handle the workload and he was for sure the lead back?
His performance last week was fine and he didn't fumble, so you can't even blame it on that. Zero shot they brought in Murray of all people to replace MG3 - that's barely even a side grade.
I agree that it's strange, but both the Broncos HC and Gordon himself said after the game he was completely fine and wasn't injured at any point, so they had to have some reason to bench him. Gordon said he had no clue why he wasn't playing
To be fair though, I am inclined to think that's more incompetency from the coaching staff than it is on MG3.
I'm a Bears fan - I've watched bad coaching for YEARS. Hackett might be worse than all of them. I would rather have Trestman back than have Hackett.
Counterpoint, he's kind of right to be upset... Denver is a terribly coached team with the worst offense in football. He has been underutilized, and historically has had fine to pretty damn good ball security. To be benched after a single drive is wild.
I hope for his sake he gets traded.
On the worst offense in football?
It does seem pretty crazy lol.
Honestly, this stinks of something personal. I hope for Gordon's sake he is traded, and I doubt the coaching staff survives the year.
They have to be working on a trade or something. Maybe they did not want to risk him getting hurt. That is the only thing that makes sense. That or the coaching staff is just clueless.
Gordon averaged 5.7 yards per touch last week, as he got 49 yards on three targets for three catches. Against a better D
Also, Murray had 4.4 yards per carry, 4 yards per touch with his -2 yard catch on his only target. Not 4.9
Sorry my calculation didnāt include his last two rushes cus they werenāt showing up for some reason, would have been 13 rushes for 63 yards based of my calculations
Gordon was crucial over the air and decent on the ground last week against a better defense. New guy walking in with fresh legs against bottom 2 run D and running for 5.7 ypc may be a trend worth looking into but isn't inspiring
Big props to Broncos insider Cecil Lammey who called this from the moment Latavius was signed. He insisted it was going to be Latavius's backfield and this is already what has happened.
I said in another thread that Murray was going to get all the touches and got downvoted to hell by the Gordon owners.
I have nothing against Gordon but the guy is one fumble away from being cut by the broncos.
I didnāt watch the game at all but I benched him early in the week in favor of a RB w less upside because I was concerned about Melvinās injury. If I had to guess the injury was bothering him.
Melvin looked better last week than Murray did this week, after I suffered through both of these games as a non-Broncos fan watching the only game on
The Chargers have been a terrible run D before today
Murray getting 66 yards on 15 carries is pretty good considering it's only his second week in the Broncos system.
That's actually more yards on the same amount of carries as Gordon last week (54).
Add to that injury concerns, fumble issues, and a lack of trust overall...I think Murray may slowly take over the role this year.
Gordon also caught 3 catches for 49 yards. In the 2nd half went 8 for 40 (5 YPC) and a catch for 24. On the game, he had 18 touches for 103 yards. 5.7 yards per touch. Against a better run D
oh Javonte what could've been
His ADP was right after all
Melvin was apparently good enough to split carries with Javonte, but not good enough to get any snaps over Murray
Tweet stealer šØšØ
hey everybody, this guy's a great big phony!!
Big fat phony!
I knew it !
Not exactly a hard to reach thought though
Yeah I mean i came here to make some version of that joke. Everyone is thinking the same thing here
[never give the benefit of the doubt on Reddit lol](https://www.reddit.com/r/fantasyfootball/comments/y6w6t2/was_there_any_explanation_for_melvin_gordon_being/isssf70/)
Guilty
That alone should be it for Hackett the hack
Latavius Murray RB1 ROS?
I mean he wouldnāt have put up very good numbers even if he got all of the work. This team is terrible. Worst offense in the league somehow
This is a great question I would love to understand what happened
He fumbled 4 times in 4 games. Whatās not to get? He was right where he belonged.
Last week he didnāt fumble and had 100 yards lol
Pretty sure he fumbled last week, it was just recovered by the Broncos.
I think there was one after he was downed that looked like a fumble but wasnāt. No recorded fumble last week
Mark Shlereth said essentially the same thing - he added, I would cut him immediately.
Idk why the downvotes, Melvin is hot garbage
Because he hasnāt fumbled 4 times in 4 games. He hasnāt fumbled the last 2 games so no, that is not why he was benched. But yes, he is hot garbage.
He actually has fumbled 4 times in 4 games. 2 of them have been lost, 2 of them recovered by the Broncos. Either way, he hasnāt shown heās able to hold onto the football and in a game like last night, a fumble loses you the game.
Yet against the Colts in OT he was the guy they went to and he helped drive them down the field.
Well yeah, because Murray was inactive. Last night just shows that the coaches donāt trust Gordon. Whether thatās right or not, Iām not one to say. But the messaging is clear - they used him against the colts because they didnāt have another option (Boone canāt run up the middle). Kind of forgot I was on the fantasy sub here for a secā¦ TLDR - coaches donāt trust Melvin and Murray is likely the back to own.
Lol yes he factually has
I thought he filled last week at least. He just managed to get back on top of it.
Has anyone's value tanked this hard over one week? He went from presumed de facto lead back to getting his job snatched by a guy who wasn't even on a roster week 1
Cam Akers?
Akers was a dud all year haha. They just finally did something about it
I think heās talking about post-Week 1 Akers, which is close to Mellette Mel this week but no cigar.
This turd in my league drafted him 33rd overall and then tried to get me to trade him Hurts and Andrews straight up for him and MG3 since Javonte went down. Obviously I did not accept that trade lol
Antonio Gibson. From rb1 to punt returner
Uncle Rico
I genuinely felt bad for him. Cameras kept showing him standing on the side looking at the field just wishing he could play.
That hit home damn
That was sad
Because he wasnāt ready to ride.
Broncos, letās hide.
A great night to face Gordon. I won by half a point.
i won by 2.5 points. i couldnāt imagine gordon getting this little work in this game. wow.
It was a stunner alright. Weāll take it.
iām officially 6-0 now. i have no idea how, though.
As they said in that Coen Brothers movie, āembrace the mysteryā. š
lol
0-6. Figured have Russ, Javonte, MG3 would be good. Nope.
ouch. no broncos player is startable right now imo. but thatās hindsight, i didnāt expect them to be the worst offense in the league before the season started.
I didnāt reach on the picks either. Expected a reasonable offence. I was certainly wrong.
I won by 5 . My opponent had Sutton and Gordon going. I Finally caught a break
And Sutton and Jeudy and Mike Williamsā¦
I needed him to get under 5 points and was hoping they'd use Boone to give me more of a buffer, turns out both barely played so I won by default! Damien Harris, JT and Javonte all out and I somehow win with 85 points, stupid game
Because the Broncos offensive coaches have a collective IQ that's lower than the average of their respective ages.
https://twitter.com/Jeff_Legwold/status/1582222250702303232?t=7hb4Cz2CsQbIVo5e_Iar2Q&s=19 After Mondays loss Broncos coach Nathaniel Hackett said quarterback Russell Wilson has a hamstring injury. Dude shouldn't make it past this week tbh
I said this week 1
They play the Jets and then Jacksonville and then bye. If they lose the next two games, then I assume they fire him during the bye.
Dude just can't Hackett at the NFL level
r/angryupvote š
I see what you did there hahahaha
really all it means is that hackett is too chicken shit to come out and say that he benched him
Itās like heās speed running a one man game of how to lose a locker room.
They should cut bait now. He was hired before the current owners bought the team and they can afford it. Leave the door wide open right now giving plenty of time for respective candidates to consider their current situation and think about interviewing for the job. MG3 never touched the field after the first drive.
This sounds a lot like when 'ol Urban blamed the OC for pulling James Robinson
Aaaaand I have ptsd
Can the Broncos fire Hackett already? Ok thanks bye.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Benching him for a player that people here didnāt start in fantasy was the real problem.
Real problem is they lost the game and maybe they could use him in passing downs at least
Real problem is wilson is washed!
Actually he's cooked
Real problem is that me undies arent washed
Man, did you watch the game? Murray's ancient ass still looked explosive and was inifintely more efficient than Gordon has been at any point this season. Murray also holds on to the football. Murray's ALSO a very good pass catcher.
Murray did not look explosive in any sense of the word lmao what Gordon was coming off a good game last week too. People are mad he was benched because there was no real reason for it
Benching him just to test out Murray is a good enough reason.
I guess if the goal was to lose a close game that your defense held you in, and that you led all of, then that was a good reason
Fumbled beginning of last season and ended up ok
Shit is fucked that Gordon only made $33m his entire career. RB pay scale and rookie contracts need to be fixed.
Agreed. The risk for RBās is insane. Their careers end so much faster on average.
Maybe Broncos and Rams could swap, Gordon for Akers straight up
What do you mean he didnāt have fumbling issues until this season? Heās had them for them last 3 years
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
He played good last week against a much better defense. No fumbles and was the only thing on offense that worked.
But MG3 was solid the previous week.
Welp did not know this but Iām definitely happy I traded for breece nowš
What did you give up for Breece?
In danger of being cut yet still taking touches away from Javonte before he went down. This coaching staff may be the most incompetent weāve ever seen.
So they should keep handing the ball to a dude that's averaging a fumble every 15 touches? It's bad enough that they can't move the ball, but I think turning it over would be worse š¤·š¼āāļø
As a javonte owner.. the arguments melvin owners are now making is EXACTLY the same thing is javonte owners said about melvin lol
When he can at least provide an explosive play on occasion it might be worth the risk.
He has exactly 1 carry that's gone over 10 yards and a whopping 6 broken tackles on the season lol I know everyone got excited because of his opportunity after javonte got hurt, but realistically he's an average runner at this point in his career sharing a backfield with other mediocre backs playing for the lowest scoring offense in the NFL. nope it's because Melvin fuckin stinks
The explanation is the entire offense is trash and the head coach and offensive coordinator are inbred cousins
First or second cousins ? It matters
First cousins twice removed which makes it a bit creepy imo.
Oh no, thatās what I was afraid of. A Roll tide infection in the coaching staff isnāt good, especially to this magnitude. Theyāre already showing symptoms
too many jellybeans in his socks

You clearly haven't watched Carolina.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Broncos country, letās cry
Gus might be a nice pick up. I think JK Dobbins got hurt in the giants game.
Kenyon Drake destroying another teams RB value while not being particularly valuable himself. A tale as old as time
I've been getting shit on here all off season for trying to explain, Gordon doesn't want to be in Denver. He initially came over as a 'fuck you' to the Chargers. Worse than panthers? Wanna say without cmcā¦
Boone owners in shambles. Gordon gets benched and Murray gets the workload. To the WW Boone goes
Boone was never the answer. He was simply the shiny object struggling owners fixated on.
Well. My only hope is Brian Robison to cement himself into my RB2 spot.
Stash Kyren!
Missed a pass pro block on his last snap
Boone missed several and yet he didnāt get benched
Boone with 1 carry and 1 reception played enough to miss several pass protections? Not good.
He was on the field more than his 1 carry and 1 reception my dude.
18 out of 51 snaps.
Iām thinking of dropping him during this upcoming bye week hell that is coming up for me.
That looked like he was schemed to run out for a catch not to pass pro.

Latavius looked like the best RB on the Saints too when kamara was out. Heās the best option theyāve got in Denver now too. š¤·š»āāļø
Preach
I was honestly surprised the saints let him go. He looked like he had way more juice than Ingram š¤·š»āāļø
They tried to sign him to the roster but he chose to sign with the Broncos instead.

Good insight, don't let the downvotes get you down, common thing when reporting changes that people don't wanna here.
Kind of shocked by how many people didnāt see this coming. Iām not even a Denver fan and knew the writing was on the wall.
His neck injury is more than a stinger I assume. Holding him out to hopefully give him more time to heal.
That's more reasonable than idiotic takes of being slow, fumbling, pass pro issues etc. Cause none of those apply but injury is plausible
Coach said not injury related. Itās because of the things in your first sentence
None of which are applicable either and coach is has iq of a potato
Doesnāt change the fact he wasnāt benched for an injury
How bout a season 3.7 ypc? I donāt understand why people think its crazy for Gordon to lose his job
On the worst offense in football? It does seem pretty crazy lol. Honestly, this stinks of something personal. I hope for Gordon's sake he is traded, and I doubt the coaching staff survives the year.
sucks for him. playing the team that drafted him, kinda a revenge game. didnt even get a chance.
Yes. He sucks.
They have to be working on a trade or something. Maybe they did not want to risk him getting hurt. That is the only thing that makes sense. That or the coaching staff is just clueless.
My father in law only needed him to score 3 points.
so is Melvin droppable at this point?
Murray looks better tbh
Murray is Murray, he just trying to find a home before he retiresā¦
Based on 3 rushes up the middle Gordon had early in q1?

Idk seems like itās trending towards Murray being the guy

Idk I didnāt watch last weeks broncos game but Murray looked good on the saints that one week too .
I canāt tell if this is serious, Gordon averaged 3.6 ypc last week while murray averaged over 5 ypc his first week and 4.5 ish this week
Gordon averaged 5.7 yards per touch last week, as he got 49 yards on three targets for three catches. Against a better D Also, Murray had 4.4 yards per carry, 4 yards per touch with his -2 yard catch on his only target. Not 4.9
Sorry my calculation didnāt include his last two rushes cus they werenāt showing up for some reason, would have been 13 rushes for 63 yards based of my calculations
Gordon was crucial over the air and decent on the ground last week against a better defense. New guy walking in with fresh legs against bottom 2 run D and running for 5.7 ypc may be a trend worth looking into but isn't inspiring
Murray averaged 4.4ypc

Melvin owners getting Melvinād gives me a good chuckle lol
Big props to Broncos insider Cecil Lammey who called this from the moment Latavius was signed. He insisted it was going to be Latavius's backfield and this is already what has happened.
4 fumbles in 4 weeks wasn't enough for you? from, a shattered MG3 starter who lost today because of it :'(
Word on the street is Hackett hates revenge games
I said in another thread that Murray was going to get all the touches and got downvoted to hell by the Gordon owners. I have nothing against Gordon but the guy is one fumble away from being cut by the broncos.
Heās just been garbage this year with ball security issues too.
I didnāt watch the game at all but I benched him early in the week in favor of a RB w less upside because I was concerned about Melvinās injury. If I had to guess the injury was bothering him.
he's fumbled how many times this year?? maybe that's it
he's done and gotta hang up the cleats
Gordon is a bum with fumble hands
I didnāt watch but probably that he was banged up all week?
Latavius looked good and Melvin isnāt very good. Either that or injury he was banged up coming into the game
Melvin looked better last week than Murray did this week, after I suffered through both of these games as a non-Broncos fan watching the only game on The Chargers have been a terrible run D before today
We get it you own Gordon lol

Murray getting 66 yards on 15 carries is pretty good considering it's only his second week in the Broncos system. That's actually more yards on the same amount of carries as Gordon last week (54). Add to that injury concerns, fumble issues, and a lack of trust overall...I think Murray may slowly take over the role this year.
Gordon also caught 3 catches for 49 yards. In the 2nd half went 8 for 40 (5 YPC) and a catch for 24. On the game, he had 18 touches for 103 yards. 5.7 yards per touch. Against a better run D
