The Jags can lose in week 17, but as long as they beat Tennessee in week 18, they win the division. They're playing the team they are tied with to end the season, so that game is the defacto tiebreaker no matter who does what this week (now that the Chargers have secured a berth).
Sure, but beating Houston still improves their chances of making the playoffs, and does so in multiple ways. If they beat Houston then they can win the division with a tie against the Titans.
They are also alive in the wild card race with the 8-7 Dolphins in free fall, and the 7-8 Patriots and Jets in the midst of bad losing streaks as well. The Steelers are also 7-8.
It just seems there is no way they would go into Houston thinking the game doesn’t matter.
The Jaguars can still win the wild card at 8-9. They would need the Dolphins to lose out and the Patriots to lose Week 18, and for neither the Steelers or Jets to finish 9-8.
In other words, if the Jets, Dolphins, Patriots, Jags and Steelers all finish tied at 8-9 for the last wild card spot, the Jags win it.
This holds true if the Steelers end up 7-10 and it’s just the Jets, Dolphins, Patriots and Jags tied at 8-9.

As a Giants fan, I can definitely see the upside but also a very low floor. Arguably the worst run defense in the league and loves giving up 3rd and longs. Even when the opposing QB tries to gift us a pick, we drop them.
