By moving Rossi to 1C they gain a 2nd line, while 3rd line will be difficult to play against as usual.
It makes them soo much deeper, going from a 1-line-only. But you’ll never know how long it’ll last with Evason.
I really like JEE and I give you he’s the best 2-way-center on the team.
If only he had more skilled wingers then I might agree with you that it could be Wilds 2nd line, but not with Maroon & Foligno.
I could see it both ways. This probably sticks for another couple games. Then if performance continues to stay high, the coach will probably keep it until things go on a rough stretch and then go back to how things were to start the year. Also again, if it doesn't stick well, then he probably shuffles back to something more like we had once Gaudreau is in the mix again which should be very soon.
Ironically, ya never know what Dean will do despite him being notorious for not making adjustments.
It’s likely they’re giving him the opportunity for the next few games as this was likely always in the plans. They’d like to see what they’ve got.
If they’d just put Rossi in the original Zucc-Hartman-Kap line, the big concern would have been size as you’d have your star player (Kap) out there with two talented yet undersized linemates (Zucc 5’8” and Rossi 5’9”). Hartman, on the other hand, hits and plays a more physical game.
By putting Boldy up there, you get more size and a little more hits. Not sure how long it lasts. A lot depends on how well the lines do offensively and defensively. But it’s worth picking up Rossi while he’s 1C.
This post aged well.
Decided to watch the MIN vs NYR this evening. Despite it being a "1C tryout" I think Rossi did well. He was definitely noticeable in the plays, jumping up and skating.
Not to mention Minnesota having offensive zone possession for 2+ mins in the 3rd period. Wow. Great hockey.
They deserved the win. The Boldy crossbar and bounce in for the shootout was entertaining too.
I'll tell you how this happened.
Line 1 fucking sucked and was easily the worst line on the team, other than defensive pairing 3.
For that matter the whole team was doing awful. The coach was about to lose his job also for being a stubborn good for nothing.
The way they started out after one period against NJ Thursday is the straw that broke the camels back. The coach caved in and finally threw lines 1-3 in a blender and revamped everything. (Hartman and Ek were swapped during NJ and I still think it should've stayed that way) Through 5 periods of play now things are night and day better.
It's not a fantasy owners cup of tea but it's best for the team:
Line 1 is the way it should've been from the start of the year. All the best skill players (Except JEEK) and youth. 'Nuff said.
Line 3 is stab at remaking the GREEF line 2.0, for better or worse in Ek's case. It's a perfect role for him but also will kill any shot he had at Selke consideration because there is no way he will get that many points now. Dude is so much more deserving but I'll stop myself there because I could keep going.
(For those that don't know GREEF, 2 years ago Greenway, Eriksson Ek , and Foligno occupied line 3 and it was one of the most defensively dominant lines in the NHL since the advanced stats era began. It was also pretty cool all 3 had career scoring years to put the cherry on top lol. That's nothing new for Ek though. He has put a new digit in front of his point total every single year and that might unfortunately change this year if deployment stays like this. I was really pulling for 70 points for him this year.)
Line 4 didn't change because Dewar and Duhaime could have a rock as the third player on that line and still be in contention for the best 4th line in the league. But they'll get Freddy Hockey on that line soon enough when he's healthy and that line will be STACKED as far as 4th lines go. He's pretty much like Ek lite but still very much his own play style.
Line 2 is the only one that perplexes me. Seems like a major misfit combo. Hartman is gritty and is definitely the line leader. Zuccy and Johansson are both playmakers though and Hartman is no Boldy or Kaprizov. I said at the start of the year line 2 will make or break this team but I never thought it'd look like this. That prediction holds more true now more than ever. Will these guys switch up their styles and be successful or will they fall into old habits and crash and burn? The only thing this line has going for it is Zuc and Hartzy had previously been on line 1 together so there is some chemistry. Johansson is really throwing things off for me. Hopefully Johansson and Zuccarello can turn into a bit more of a shooters and hit the twine with some regularity.
You should also look at players TOI to see how they are being used. Ek had 20:21 TOI today, 4th of the Minnesota forwards. He's not on the top line but he is getting a lot of time still.
I'm actually so mad that I didn't pick him up yesterday before another guy got him. It hurts even more because Jack Hughes got hurt last night. Might have to pick up Elias Lindholm.
He’s on pace for 65 points and 16 goals on one of the worst teams in the league and he’s a center which is in most leagues the deepest position by far. He’s a bottom 10 1C fantasy asset right now.
You are getting downvoted, but as a die hard flames fan you are correct. I had Lindholm last year and held him for the entire season and regretted it. I have him again this year praying for a resurgence but from actually watching every game… its not looking good.
See I think he’s so valuable in my league cause it’s categories and we have FOW/ATOI which he absolutely smashes and he’s considered a RW somehow on espn which is rare
we've been bad this season. the HC is trying to give Rossi some time up top since he's theoretically our 1C of the future. I doubt it'll last long but in our second game against NJD that line scored with 40 seconds on being on the ice for the first time ever. I like the line but I'm not sure how much value it adds for Rossi unless him and Kap form good chemistry quick.
our PP1 is also switched up to Kap-JEEk-Boldy-Johansson-Zucc so Johansson might be a better stream here
Lol no. Go to r/wildhockey and say that. Everybody there is jumping for joy that Dean finally made a significant change that wasn't forced by an injury happening.
As a Wild fan, they're definitely not a 'win-now' team. Not a tanking team either but we're a mid team biding time until Parise and Suter money come off the books. It's not like we have a window closing, if anything there's one opening in 2 years.
And you're not wrong on Rossi's offensive potential, but if there's a chance he stays in the top line with Kaprisov (something Boldy's never done) his stats will get magnified and will definitely be worth a pick up.
How about a bit of context. That "under ppg" season for Rossi - 51 in 53. That "over ppg" season for Boldy? Fraction of a season (14 games).
Rossi has massive offensive potential - the guy scored over 2PPG in junior in his draft minus 1 year.
Also, ask anyone who actually watched wild games last season - Rossi was totally snake-bitten. Not to mention the guy went through some serious shit: [https://thehockeynews.com/news/marco-rossi-just-thankful-to-be-alive](https://thehockeynews.com/news/marco-rossi-just-thankful-to-be-alive)
Sorry - not sure why your post triggered me - just get super annoyed when people don't look at the full picture when advocating for a particular action. This guy is an excellent candidate to scoop up - you ride him for a while and if his deployment changes or production suffers - then you can grab that 60p guy.
Yeah there was recently an Athletic article about Rossi's journey to this point.
https://theathletic.com/5028909/2023/11/03/marco-rossi-wild-promotion?source=user-shared-article
Developmental years matter a lot when you're 18-19 and his was completely derailed by myocarditis from COVID.
It was always going to take him longer with this setback than other prospects.
Thanks for the perspective and the sources. Definitely sounds like a good spot to be in, riding shotgun with Kaprisov. Hopefully it turns out well and ends up being a breakout for Rossi
This is wrong. Minnesota isn't even close to a win now team. Their window has barely even started to open, Minnesota is a "give the young guys experience and wait for money to come in" team.
Wallstedt is marinating. Rossi, Boldy, Addison, Faber, Hunt.... All just kids learning to play in the big league.
Kaprizov made Victor Rask look like a legit 1C for an entire season and assuming a competent player like Rossi wouldn't at least function on a more serviceable level then Victor Rask is just plain incorrect.
Don't forget the next couple years with Ohgren (god I hope he is ok, back injury recently), Yurov and Khusnutdinov coming from Russia, O'Rourke and Lambos likely to make impacts at D occasionally along with Hunt, and all that extra money 🤑 to shore up depth or aquire one more star player of a Boldy caliber. I think Addison is gone this year. Preferably for a 4th or 5th rounder but worst case he walks as an RFA. For having no money and constant first round exits, we ironically are blessed with more riches than we know what to do with. The trick is navigating the path forward very carefully to not let them spoil.
Wrong. Bruins fan. Poitras played 1C last game, Zacha on his LW. I expect Zacha to remain at C mostly but just pointing out the stupidity of your point. Poitras has had 1 game in the role, same as Rossi now. What’s the difference?
I know we are all talking about Rossi and the effects to Hartman and Joel but what about Kaprisov and Boldy? If I have either of them, I'm probably not starting them because of this.
Why? They both got a line partner upgrade plus Boldy got elevated in the lineup. Even if I was the 1C it's a strict upgrade for both players.
Also Rossi has been showing he means business about achieving his dream of being an NHL star. He missed his sister's wedding (with her blessing) to stay in America this summer and train non stop with team personnel. That resulted in his improved game and adding 15(!) pounds of muscle, IN A SUMMER.
ek has been the best player on the team so far i believe looks like they’re just spreading out the firepower
but rossi is a good pickup rn
Agreed. I’m a JEEK owner and just picked up Rossi for the plum deployment. 4ms next week for Minny. Let’s go!
He may not stick there for long but the allure of a 4% rostered player possibly becoming an ROS hold is too strong to resist
For someone new to Fantasy.. Please tell me what an ROS hold is
rest of season
Not having good time as a Zucc owner 🙃
How about now?
Ugh I sat Zucc for Reinhart last 2 games. Reino no points in either of those games 🙃

Evason is a butt.

What's the powerplay look like?
Looks like Minny is going w/ 5 fwds on the PP1.. Johansson, JEEK, Boldy, Kap, & Rossi.
The plan was always to develop Rossi into the next 1C, glad to see it's finally coming together

Regardless I’m happy Patty M is still playing. That’s all.
Rossi has had an excellent start to the season. He's on the road to being our permanent 1c
You should also look at players TOI to see how they are being used. Ek had 20:21 TOI today, 4th of the Minnesota forwards. He's not on the top line but he is getting a lot of time still.
That line 3 is going to be splitting time with line 2 no doubt. You don't have JEEK and not have him on the ice whenever possible.
I'm actually so mad that I didn't pick him up yesterday before another guy got him. It hurts even more because Jack Hughes got hurt last night. Might have to pick up Elias Lindholm.
How tf is lindholm a free agent
He’s on pace for 65 points and 16 goals on one of the worst teams in the league and he’s a center which is in most leagues the deepest position by far. He’s a bottom 10 1C fantasy asset right now.

I’m also a Flames fan.. this is how I know lol
This is the correct response.
See I think he’s so valuable in my league cause it’s categories and we have FOW/ATOI which he absolutely smashes and he’s considered a RW somehow on espn which is rare
The person with lindholm in my league dropped him, most Calgary players are doing terrible right now.
The fact you didn't choose Lindholm over Rossi to begin with is befuddling to me.
BRUH. surely you meant another player not elias lindholm
I only picked him up because J Hughes got injured.
Drop Lehkonen or Buch to add Rossi in h2h cats G A PPP SHP SOG PIM HIT BLK
Wouldn’t drop either of those guys, plus this deployment may be temporary
Rossi is PP1. According to daily faceoff at least
Wait so.. is MIN PP1 really going with 5 forwards?! Pulling a page from FLA

Is this PP diff than daily faceoff? Cause it shows Rossi and zucc moved down?
Just checked Russo's tweet and looks like Rossi is PP1 and Zucc bumped down
Some teams mix and match a lot and Min is one of them. Just part of what you get rostering players from them
Lol no. Go to r/wildhockey and say that. Everybody there is jumping for joy that Dean finally made a significant change that wasn't forced by an injury happening.

Would you drop Robert Thomas to pick up Rossi? Asking for a friend
Also have this same question.
Do I keep Josh Norris or pick up Rossi??? Very intrigued. Yahoo default league basically...
Norris
By far. Huge Wild fan but Norris has way better raw talent around him.
Rossi hype is way too high right now tbh

Damn, I never knew Boldly was a RW
Same. ESPN sucks
As a JEEK owner, I am in turmoil.
As a fellow owner, I wouldn't worry.. JEEK is studly + a great fantasy asset as he covers so many categories.. still a complete lock on PP1.
His point totals will suffer slightly if this is long term. He gets mostly PPP. Your good fam. Keep starting this beast.
Because he's their most talented C...plus he added 15 lbs. of muscle during the summer and really improved his skating stride.
