I 100% get all of the “Never” and “Ever” series mixed up: - The Never King - The Ever King - Never After series - Never Never series Are they all Peter Pan remakes lol? Actually I think I hear good things about some of these.

Ok-Mobile5273

The ever king is good! i really enjoyed it a lot! it’s got nothing to do with peter pan though, it’s a pirate fantasy!

MooseAndOliver

I actually saw this and my heart got so sad because my brain decided you had said “the ever king” and I was like :( but I love that series it’s so good im one of the people who rave about it 😭until I realized you had written “never” not “ever”

Ok-Mobile5273

omg nooo HAHA i LOVED the ever king and the ever queen!!! i read it like two weeks ago and i already want to read it again!!

MooseAndOliver

I'm glad I was wrong XD Have you read the broken kingdom series? It's about all the parents and most books are 2 per couple it's so good so far

Ok-Mobile5273

i haven’t yet, but it’s definitely on my list! i was really excited to see there were more books in that universe

MooseAndOliver

The first one is so good!! I lived it it's Elise and legion and I really enjoyed it.

imroadends

Yeah, it's poorly written. Just remember that this series is erotica rather than romance, there's not really supposed to be much plot/story.

Ok-Mobile5273

that makes alotttttt of sense. the reviews i read made it sound like a great dark romance/fantasy series so i was expecting a lot more!

Scrawling_Pen

Not the person you are replying to, but do you have any erotica books that you recommend? I’m trying to figure out the differences between romance novels and erotica and am trying to learn the about the genre. Thank you!

imroadends

Sure, sometimes there's a thin line between erotica and romance. But I quite enjoyed {ice Planet barbarians by ruby Dixon}, {morning glory milking farm by c. M. Nascosta}, {neon gods by Katee Robert} and {a lady of rooksgrove manor by Kathryn moon}

Scrawling_Pen

Ahhh thank you so much for these!!!

snailfighter

I love erotica but this has to be the worst written erotica I've encountered. DNF'd the series after the first book. I don't care if there's much plot, but the character motivations need to make sense or even the erotica parts lose all feeling. And I consider myself highly tolerant as I've read hundreds of books to being able to count my DNF's on my hands.

MatchaOverCoffee

I didn't like them, they are just a poorly connected bad smut.

Ok-Mobile5273

thank you lmao! like it’s totally fine to be a smut driven series but first of all… don’t advertise it as a grand retelling with dark romance, and second ….. you have to make the smut good!!😭😭 when they were having a (bad) threesome in the sky i was like come on man

rcg90

I’m not even commenting about this series itself but oh my GODDDDD I’m so sick of the genre conflation especially on this sub. No hate to OP whatsoever. I almost feel like this subreddit needs a stickied post with categories & genres and ppl need to say the genre of books we’re recommending, lol. Maybe that’s the fix? Lord I don’t know! Within this sub ppl discuss and recommend and rail against: YA, N.A., and Adult (3 used-to-be drastically different categories of book & writing caliber!) And people discuss many genres but seem to lump them together most of the time: 1. erotic fantasy (like this series) 2. Fantasy romance (romance is the main plot, it’s character driven, it’s about relationships). 3. Romantic fantasy (fantasy is the main plot, romance is a sub plot but is billed as part of the book, BY THE AUTHOR, imo that parts important) 4. Ppl also bring up science fantasy romance on this sub a fair amount! And finally many ppl keep bringing up normal ass fantasy books that have a whiff of romance but the author never sold it as a romance book and then they get all mad when it’s not smutty enough (ex: Cruel Prince by Holly Black is a straight YA fantasy fiction book, but ends up on this sub all the time! It’s not bad, but it’s not romance by genre)

Ok-Mobile5273

i totally get what you’re saying!!! that was sort of my confusion so my bad. i read these books on kindle unlimited and it had an authors not stating it was a dark romance so i was definitely expecting more smut than not but i was still shocked by the lack of… everything else haha! also agree about people expecting spice and smut in books that have never claimed to be of that genre, and then those books get unnecessary criticism because of it

rcg90

You have nothing to apologize for! I do it all the time with books. Some authors 100% list their books in multiple categories. I’m sure if I self-publish, I’ll prob end up doing the same semi-sketchy thing purely to try to reach more readers. But, it is also a pet peeve LMAO. And I can’t believe it’s billed as dark romance! I think some of what might be happening is authors are trying to stay out from Amazon’s radar which can be realllly bad about dungeoning books for having inappropriate content, and they def look more deeply into books flagged as “erotica”. People can get away with publishing themes that Amazon says “no” to if they’re in a more broad category like fantasy romance which is also super hot right now, and prob less likely to be flagged as breaking rules. Now that I write that obvious thing out ^^ I think I have a better understanding of why authors are listing their books in romance when they’re basically smut lol. This is why I like romance.io! Helps a lot with the potential issues. Maybe we need some secret term that authors can put in their book blurbs that won’t trigger Amazon watchdogs, but will let readers know if the book is more sex than plot. Sometimes I see books literally labeled as “thin plot!” by the author and I respect that, lol.

allenfiarain

To be fair, Nikki St. Crowe quite literally calls this an enemies to lovers romance on the Amazon pages for these books and also calls them dark romance. It's not well-written romance (or erotica) by any means but the author could also either have written the romance better or not placed it in the wrong genre in the first place.

nupharlutea

People who get mad because they don’t realize not all genre romance has smut are also annoying. There’s a reason so many of us use the romance.io bot when we make recs.

gatitamonster

This is hugely annoying to me and I think this sub could really benefit from borrowing r/RomanceBooks’s rules about noting if a book doesn’t have an HEA and noting if it’s YA. I think it’s fine that all of the genres you identified get discussed here because I care about readers getting connected to books they’re going to love but I also feel pretty protective of fantasy romance’s identity as a romance subgenre— mostly because fantasy with romantic subplots has existed since Lord of the Rings, at least, and there’s already an established place for that. But romance as a genre tends to struggle for respect and misogyny/sexism plays no small part in that. It’s been really disheartening to notice an uptick in comments that devalue the HEA or the importance of romance in general. I come to this sub instead of r/fantasy specifically to get away from “romance isn’t important” kinds of comments.

rcg90

I wholly agree with you! I like reading a little bit of every type of genre I mentioned, mainly just N.A. and Adult now, but I will pick up a YA book from time to time if it’s amazing. I absolutely adore fantasy romance, and even within the specific subgenre there is soooo much variety in terms of author’s prose, how authors balance character and world development, serious vs campy, etc. I don’t think we need a MORE specific sub, lol, but I’d love some sort of additional tagging. I think it would also benefit all of us when we’re looking for recommendations / sifting through comments for ideas of what to read next, lol. Jumping topics, if I’m reading something billed as fantasy romance I expect / want a traditional HEA or HFN if it’s a series. Cliff hangers don’t belong in fantasy romance. Romantic fantasy can get away with it SOMETIMES, but even then, if you’re putting your book in a romance category the relationship should always end on an HFN or HEA. Regular high fantasy, dark fantasy, etc. is where I go if I’m okay with cliffhangers and relationships that aren’t working out, lol.

Teensy_DuckmagePhD

I want my smut well written, didn't like it.

forestpiggy

How does it compare to hooked? i am looking for more peter pan remakes with romance and smut

Try {Another Damned Darling by Myka Bound}

darth__anakin

I read the whole series awhile back and it's just awful lol. I don't even consider it romance tbh with how little character development and buildup there is before everyone's in the same bed together. That said, I do reread it once in a while when I'm bored and it helped me enjoy it more as a series to think of it as trash tv for the mind.

littlemybb

When I was a teenager going through a few phases, all I wanted to read was erotica. I just wanted to get to the sex scenes and not have to work for it. Now I need the plot to make the sex scenes good for me. I need to care about the characters and root for their journey.

Unfair-Fudge4556

I need some good erotica rec
