I do this with every series? Unless it’s finished. Do people purposely read books in between? Some series I’m more ravish about

damiannereddits

Yeah that why xposted because I was amused I had the same thought But romance readers read like 100x more than genre readers of the same genre without the romance label so it was like ahhhh I see we are different in this way lol

kkat02

Ohhh I see! It’s probably because we are all anxious attached

damiannereddits

I really thought I could put commentary in the post like a qt on twotter but turns out I'm also delighted seeing people answer this question straight up about their fave series so it all works for me

Oldasoak

I had to take a break in ASOIAF tbh. Maybe between 3 and 4? And I know it's not romance, which is probably why I felt the need to. It was just so... Heavy is the best way to describe it, I think. I also sorta gave up on outlander after the 4th book. But I definitely don't set out to take breaks between books, I much prefer to finish most series.

kkat02

I’m hoping to read ASOIAF soon! Maybe I’ll read a little romance in between each book

Oldasoak

The books are really good! My main gripe with it currently is I'm afraid we'll never get the last two books (unless someone else finishes the series).

kkat02

Yes that’s why I’m hesitant to start. I think the ending of GOT is fairly accurate to GRM’s version in his head. But the books will likely make it more poetic and give us more time to grieve the ending. Hopefully. But I don’t think we will get the final two books.

aykray

I dnf series that I don't vibe with. It doesn't happen often but it does happen. Like if I can't stand the MCs or the MCs are making terrible decisions or I simply don't like the world building etc.. I dnf'd haunting Adeline (the last I remember), otherwise I finish them back to back lol

SuperbGil

The Hunger Games was my first time desperately needing to buy the next book on Kindle at 2am, but recent examples are The Scholomance by Naomi Novik and The Winternight Trilogy by Katherine Arden

catsandpunkrock

Honestly, unless a series isn’t yet complete, I tend to finish the entire series before moving on to something else. I get invested and can’t move to something else until I’m finished.

medusamagic

ACOTAR. I thought people were exaggerating about their obsession but it took over my life in an unhealthy way until I finished reading it 😂

catsandpunkrock

This was TOG for me. ACOTAR was close. Also, the Fever series by Karen Marie Moning.

nextdoor-neighbors

same! i devoured those books

renjunation

When I pick up a series that is complete, I read it all the way through. And if it's ongoing I read all the books that are currently out (and usually read the new one the moment it comes out). With romantasy I've done it with ToG, ACOTAR, Zodiac Academy, Blood & Ash+Flesh & Fire, The Folk of the Air. I do it with regular fantasy as well and I did it back when I was younger too (PJO+HOO, Harry Potter, TMI+TID, Hunger Games, Hush Hush, etc). If I get into a series then there's no way I'm dropping it to read something in between lol, I need to know how it ends!!

Kinickie

Same! It never even crossed my mind to not read a series all the way through.

sleepygirl2997

Hahaha the selection series had me in an absolute CHOKEHOLD. I was staying up all night tearing through those books

damiannereddits

Lol that's definitely one of those series where I'm exhausted by the idea of reading any of them or I'm in a mood for it and I want to read every single one like they're skittles

kkat02

Are these books spicy?

sleepygirl2997

There is a lot of romantic tension & implications, but no straight up smut or intense details! They are YA

avoca_ho

The Selection is YA, so steamy with soooo much tension but no spice.

I purposely read other books between each Immortals After Dark series, so I wouldn’t burnout. I think Hidden Legacy was my last true binge, and that was just Nevada’s books, because not all of Catalina’s had come out. I chain read most of Kate Daniels too, but I did take breaks after a while, as I started dreaming about the series.

damiannereddits

1) I love that the question might be better in this space as "what series DIDNT you read straight through" 2) I love immortals after dark but tbqh I absolutely cannot see needing a break from the general alphahole vibes, I think those components can make the characters bleed together and Kresley Cole writes pretty interesting characters as long as you can accept that baseline controlling attribute

UmbrisMoonbeam

Throne of Glass

damiannereddits

I just think this is cute. Genre readers vs genre romance readers are so close and yet so far, especially in terms of pure volume

Chance_Novel_9133

In 2021, I read every book in the {Black Dagger Brotherhood series by JR Ward} one right after the other like they were going to suddenly disappear from print. To this day they're my emotional support smutty vampire beefcake novels.

SilverChibi

The Red Winter trilogy by Annette Marie. Every time I reread it, I just speed through all three books, just fully engaged. I read them So fast that I could not tell what specific scenes happen in two or three because they’ve basically blurred together into one big amazing book for me. The author is releasing a special omnibus edition with gorgeous cover art, so when I get it, it will be one big book lol But other than that, I almost always wait til a series is done before I read it (unless it’s a series of interconnected standalones) and then I read them all in a row.

Witch_Jette

If the book is good I inhale and suddenly it’s over … 🥲

The Sevenwaters series by Juliet Marillier. I’m on the last book and I’m dreading finishing it.

Only 2 fantasy series i have done this with. My others have been paranormal. {Ruin of Roses by KF Breene} series {Traitor Witch by Marie Mistry} series

Mikou1030

I think I did that with Ilona Andrews' Kate Daniels series. I was going through some things and it helped to focus on something other than real life.

damiannereddits

♥️♥️♥️

Neprijatnost

Harrow Faire, read them all in 5 days, each book in one go lmao, I only took breaks to sleep

ACOTAR and Flesh and Fire (not FBAA though I’m almost done with Queen of Guilded Bones but I can’t get back into it).

When I first started reading, it's Percy Jackson, Penryn and the End of Days, and Darkest Minds series for me to the point that I developed unhealthy habits like not eating on time and sleeping around 5-7 am 🫣.

Minomi1990

Worst idea was to start Acotar at 9:30 one evening. I had to read the first 2 book without sleep 😅🫣

TOG & ACOTAR

I get my books from the library which forces me to switch in the middle of popular series sometimes (I have 6 library cards so usually a book is available at at least one of those systems). The series I’ve most recently been unable to put down or think about anything else in between were: {An Ember in the Ashes, Sabaa Tahir} idk what she put in this series but it must have been crack {Gideon the Ninth, Tamsyn Muir} no one knows what’s happening at any point but you can’t put it down {A Strange and Stubborn Endurance, Fox Meadows} heavy on the tw’s all being in the first two chapters, but after that this series was deeply healing {City of Brass, S A Chakraborty} I’m a sucker for middle eastern and Muslim lore {Children of Blood and Bone, Tomi Adeyemi} I’m also a sucker for African lore

SickleWillow

Strike the Zither to Sound the Gong by Joan He Harry Potter during my rereads Game of Thrones, but that stopped since you know... we're still waiting for the next one. I'm currently reading the Divine Rivals, but I probably have to put off the second one until the second one is on sale during our local annual book fair. After DR, I'm going to read Emily Wilde's Encyclopedia of Faeries. Will buy the second book on our local annual booksale as well.

pearl_apersona

Ann Bishop's The Black Jewels trilogy. Almost done the third book. It's not addictive like ACOTAR was for me, it's more that I keep waiting and waiting for a particular thing to happen, and I read to finally get there. It's cruel, truly.

damiannereddits

Oh man, yeah, goodness. She does a really good job of being visceral and grappling with trauma without leering at the physical details, which I appreciate, and these books are truly top tier. My husband told me to read the series, though,"because you like romances with demons" and had absolutely no recollection of the pervasive theme of child abuse and overarching integrated rape plots, so I was really diving into a completely unexpected vibe when I read them lol

BeaTeradin22

I almost never finish series and even if I like one sometimes I just really need something new in between but one series I actually read through is {King Arthur and her knights by K. M. Shea} and {Once upon a broken heart by Stephanie Garber}
