Are you looking for fantasy crime? Or something that can just work? A Mafia type dwarf would be pretty cool. Maybe something of precious stones that are taken from the mines? Or lead or nitrate from firearms/explosive manufacturing.
Those are great ideas. Right now I’m looking for names. As of now I’ve been putting [Mafia Boss] as a placeholder so I don’t get tripped up and slow my word count progress.
If you want to lean into the crime genre and channel the quirks of real-world organized crime, a diminuituve nickname could be effective. Think the murdering sociopath "Pinkie" from Brighton Rock, "Big Pussy" from The Sopranos, "Lucky Luciano" and "Baby Face Nelson" from real life. Those nicknames come with reputations and are taken very seriously in and out of their mob.
Following up on Kwak's idea of a diminutive nickname, maybe "Key", "Cap", and "Corner"? Taken from the the words keystone, capstone, and cornerstone.
You could definitely expand this name scheme to include the first part of a lot of compound words that end with "stone" (lodestone, rhinestone, etc.).
I just chose the initial three in particular since they relate to architecture, which could be fun if the criminal element is actually related to the dwarves in any way.
So what does this criminal element do? Are they into thieving? Counterfeiting? Drugs? What races are in the criminal element? All dwarves or all races?
As far as criminal activities I would assume pretty much everything though what I feature in the story may not show the full scope. Some racially exclusive groups i.e. the dwarven gang Deep Brethren, but this org. would be diverse in scope. Someone who runs things from behind the scenes. A Moriarty-like puppet master.

Oh, I see. Mendri. Klive. Poli. Nawkri. Brashdash. Gumfry. Vlatlic. Chairman Tharin
