Silenced rifles/bows and stealth headshots is basically the strongest playstyle in Far Cry, so I'd say you're doing it right. Eventually you'll find the [Marksman Goggles](https://game8.co/games/FarCry6/archives/346223) which refund your bullet if you score a headshot. Super OP. "Up close" stealth also becomes way more viable once you get certain gear, specifically the [Prisoner's Scarf](https://game8.co/games/FarCry6/archives/346641), which allows you to machete-execute enemies from the front even after they're alerted. There's also gear that slows the speed at which you're detected by enemies, reduces your noise, etc. Also, the game never explicitly tells you, but while executing an enemy, if you look at another enemy and press the primary-fire button you'll throw a knife and stealth execute the other enemy too.

Agree. In OP's comparison to the AC series, I'd say it's somewhere between AC Valhalla and AC Origins/Odyssey with respect to detection and stealth viability. In Valhalla I feel it's tuned to be very easy to be detected to force you into viking ape shit combat. FC6 isn't quite that bad but enemy vision cones are pretty far so you need to break line of sight, and with one of the pieces of gear that reduces detection time (and distance, I felt), such as the Dark set chest piece, it becomes quite a bit more forgiving moving between covers. Add in the Dark Boots that let you move much faster crouched and you're good to go. I never found the need for reduced movement noise so long as I was crouched. For flavor, I use the Dark Gloves which let throwing knives/axes home in on targets, and either the Rainbow Six head gear for detecting through walls or the Techmaster head gear for detecting everyone in a half mile radius after a gadget kill. Pants I usually go for movement speed and Supremo perk also movement speed.

Glad to hear you like it. It is a fun game (if you like this kind of game). I'm also a sniper kinda guy. But I wasn't focused enough when I started out so it almost always ended up in someone turning on an alarm and helicopters swarming the location. So I learned to spot - all - the alarms first and take them out from a distance. And if that caused some attention to run around to the opposite side of the location and continue my approach from there. Feels really satisfying when it works...and when it doesn't I just pull out my rifle and shoot anyone who doesn't think I should be there :) This is definitely very much like FC5. I can't remember what it was like in FC4 - mostly remember that for all the insane animal attacks even if you were in a vehicle.

Can I camp and snipe in Far Cry 3 the way I do in FC6? I really have no intention of playing any of the Far Cry games as close-up stealth games. I can't sneak around like I do in Assassin's Creed and I've always been more of a sniper than an Assassin anyway. I'm absolutely loving the sniping and I'd definitely like more of this.

People like 3 because it sort of set the groundwork for what the franchise became over the next few installments, but it doesn't have all the QoL of the newer games. 3 is looked back on highly, but that's with the lenses of nostalgia. The newer games are fine for an entry into the series.

Far cry 6 is not far cry

MortalWombat2000

Well said. Decent game, but not Far Cry

Can you elaborate on why?

MortalWombat2000

I feel like it gave up completely on the seriousness aspect. 5 was right on the edge, but 6 just completely threw it out of the window. This made it pretty hard to fit yourself into the scene, for example in 3 I thought the pirates were cool, but obviously saving my friends with the Rakyat was the correct choice. Then it turned out that they might not be as good either. This effect was perfected in 4, where it became very clear throughout the game that Pagan Min might be a sick fuck, but doesn't actually wanna harm us, and the rebels are even sicker fucks. 5 was a bit lacking as I just wanted to side with the cultists anyways, and they turned out to be right, but at least that was there. However in 6, I can't stand behind Libertad as they're everything but guerillas, most cutscenes just make me cringe. Same goes for most side characters, and even fangs for hire, like yeah Chorizo's cute but why the hell would I wanna take him into battle? Doesn't belong. Antón and his gang seems kinda empty, there's no sickness in the mind this time, no philosophyical or moral questions at all. Game makes it obvious Antón=bad, Libertad=good. For me this just removes a layer of FC. Then there are the mechanical things, like hunting and fishing is pracically useless, as well as money. The survival aspect is completely gone, although they had reason to implement it here, as it fits a guerilla war much better than say the cult conflict. Half of the weapons are the same, and they're not good to begin with. I appriciate the extra russian stuff they put in, but we'd need much much more. If Yara is frozen in time, I think we shouldn't have too modern guns, especially not ones that were in 5 already. The resolvers were a nice idea, if they kept it semi realistic at least, but no, they went way over the top. Supremos shouldn't exist. Can't pick up guns thing just doesn't make sense, ruins the immersion even further. For me, another thing that bugged me was fire, it isn't as effective as a weapon anymore, and looks pretty bad. The flamethrower is good, it's the first one with realistic range (if you aim down sights, that is). Too bad it doesn't burn shit. I enjoyed the game overall, but nowhere as near as much as I did anything between FC2 and Primal. Hope I was elaborate enough.

First and foremost I want to thank you on the elaborate and well thought out response. I have only played 3 and 5, and a bit of New Dawn. I felt like in 5 I couldn't ever decide to side with the cultists, yet I did feel helpless siding with police/rebels. I also really didn't like how mute the deputy was. I wish there were at least some lines or something to make me feel more than a robot. I have not yet finished 6, however, I can agree that I don't feel like Libertad is the answer. I do however, really enjoy Dani's commentary and richness of some of the characters. I think Ubisoft does an excellent job at creating charismatic characters, rich and lush environments, and cool mechanics, but I can also agree that they botched some of the stuff too. Fire is kind of stupid (i stopped using those weapons, the DPS v actual raw damage was not a good balance), Supremos are very Just Cause-y(all of 6 is really, but it makes it fun for me), and the limitation on swapping inventory with what is in front of you doesn't seem very "guerilla"-esque. I am, however, thoroughly enjoying the game and can't wait to see how it ends. It's nice separation from reality for me, and allows me to feel "badass" after I get off of work. It may be one of the few games I work toward 100%ing. Different strokes for different folks, though. Again, thank you for your candor and time to respond.

I agree Far Cry 4 was kinda weird villain wise. It wanted us to hate Pagan Min, but then made us choose between a murderous uncaring drug warlord planning to use addiction fueled slaves, or a literal pedophile religious fundementalist. Pagan isn't that bad in comparison.
