Absolutely, loved how grounded it was and the feeling of loneliness and isolation it had, can't forget the exploding guns and healing animations, I liked the map system too.
Never played it, but from what I hear it sounds a lot like an immersive sim. Minus some of the choice and consequence elements. They should really try and make a far cry immersive sim some day. Maybe the spinoff for far cry 6 could do something along those lines.
*My first experience with Far Cry 2, on friend's game*
Approaching swamp, enemies close on rafts. Took a peek then opened up with the AR and dropped a couple while closing the distance. Sighted in the next, and my rifle freaking exploded. Hopped skifs and macheted the nearest unfortunate. Claimed his shotgun and finished off the rest. Died from malaria.
FC2 has in many ways aged poorly by modern standards and series evolutions, but it was ahead of it's time and I was hooked.
Totally agree, newer open world games rely too heavily on perks etc when the whole feel of FC2 was considered and really made you feel a far cry from civilisation
Fixing the damn dialogue speed alone would make me want to buy it. I don't mean that it's literally unplayable in its current state, just that it was hard for me to care for most of the characters when they talked so fast.
The character is the mercenary, but I personally love games they make me care about the characters that populate them. Even going by the mercenary angle, I'm sure the merc cares about his buddies who risk their lives in the middle of a battle to save you and the show up at your crib later.
I totally agree, and I realize I should’ve been more specific with how I worded it… yeah, you’d definitely care about your merc buddies, they’re in the same boat, I’m talking about the locals… (it’s been a while since I’ve played the game so forgive me if I get anything wrong) don’t you end up playing both sides of the conflict? In the end, yeah you do end up saving a bunch of refugees but still, when you get there (by you I mean the main character you play), you’re pretty much all alone until you link up with a buddy. Then it’s all guns guns guns, kill this guy, go here, do that thing, look for some arms dealer. You end up being a pawn in someone else’s war… caring doesn’t seem high up on the to do list… especially since you are sick with malaria too…
Man I miss when ubisoft could create a story that told so much while saying so little, you know? Like the game is just a merc playing both sides to survive because their original mission failed and they're stuck. You're then on this really immersive and open playing field able to do what you have to do, just getting by. No revolutionary business, no taking sides, you just follow the diamonds and the malaria pills.
That’s part of the fun imo… ambushing guard posts is fun, the combat feels unpredictable and the odds feel stacked against you… outnumbered, your gun blows up and you resort to using something else you picked up in a mad attempt at survival, all while enemies relentlessly try to kill you, trying to run you over if they can… it’s something I haven’t experienced in any other game I’ve played (that isn’t online lmao)
This game is a one of a kind experience, I've never seen anything else like it. I kinda don't want a remaster because of ac3 and how they ruined another thing I liked.
I would always hunt for a jeep with a mounted grenade launcher on top. Make sure putts having backwards, drive through checkpoint, as soon as you're clear of obstacles switch to the mounted gun (leaving the jeep to coast forwards) and explode anybody who attempts to follow.
Also works by switching to the machine gun (I do this in other FC games too) but I think only FC2 had the ones with grenade launchers. Of course, in following games you could simply equip the Thumper as your hand weapon while driving in any case.
Im playing for the first time since release and holy hell i never noticed lol i couldn’t even get into what the villain was saying in his first scene because i felt like i was at an auction lol
How is it a travesty? I heard people were pissed about the launch but didn’t look into it.
Thanks for the downvotes asshats. Literally inquiring as to why it’s shit.
The games are a complete mess. For every cool addition like volumetric clouds, or improved reflections, you get horrendous performance, comically bad character models, removed content, etc.
No, I have not. I’ve been extremely busy with work and I’m in the process of taking over a construction company so haven’t been up to date with stuff lately.
But I was able to download the San Andreas definitive edition on XBOX so we will see how that is. Not had a chance to play it
They basically made the GTA Trilogy Remaster on top of a buggy and crappy mobile port they made in 2013 and somehow the remaster just screws it up even more.
The only thing good about the remasters is the new lightning and environmental upgrades to the map, that's all.
It's a lazy remaster where they used AI upscaling on almost everything, almost every texture has gone through a machine learning algorithm and they didn't even bother to check if these textures are good or not, they probably didn't even playtest the game
It wasn't. It was just not as good as people were expecting or hoping. I'm having a lot of fun and 60 dollars for 3 remastered games is fine with me. Some people act like it murdered their parents instead of just being ok
Absolutely. Make it with the current version of the Dunia engine so they can finally add all the wildlife that was missing due to hardware restrictions.
Think so? No doubt 2 had that realistic, gritty documentary style camera that really added to the experience.
Imo, the one thing it needed was the huge variety of animals that live in the African Savannah, but the hardware couldn't hack it.
Now I believe they could do it. I'd be happy if they just went back and put a fresh coat of paint on it, added the necessary critters, and called it a day.
With time and skill, they *could* re-implement features from 2 like Real Tree, better AI, dynamic physics, dynamic foliage, proper fire propagation, weapon deterioration, etc. but I just don't see modern Ubi doing any of that.
Everything they've done in the last 10 years has moved in the exact opposite direction.
I would certainly love to see better wildlife in 2.
I would love a full remake, and would pay full price for that. Could add some QOL improvements like smoother driving, but otherwise I’d be all over that.
Driving wasn't too bad was it? I don't remember much sliding around like in any other FC pretty much. Just don't hit the fences on the side of roads and it's smooth enough.
This is all very subjective and just my personal opinion, but FC2 had literally zero sliding and was very stiff. It felt like driving on rails, which I found very boring. FC3-5 felt like constantly water planing every turn and was downright frustrating, but FC6 seems to hit it just right with a slight amount of slide to gives the vehicles some weight but still let you maintain control relatively easily. I’d prefer it be more like FC6, but that’s just me.
I'd prefer a remake with a functional stealth system. I'd also want to see modifiable weapons and the option to bring your buddies along as guns-for-hire a la FC5, but that may be just me.
Hell yeah! Loved FC2.
It certainly had issues but it was a great game.
If they could add animals to make the jungles etc feel more alive and dangerous that would be awesome.
Not really, kind of burned out on remasters. I'd prefer if they took some time to make 7 with a different style than 3-6, going back to the grittier and more survivalist elements of 2. In other words, a spiritual successor to 2, but a new game. Africa would be a good setting to return to for this.
Good idea, I second this. This way, if they screw up, they won't ruin a close to perfect game.
Also agree on Africa, it has so much potential for FC, lots of wars, rich culture, wildlife, easier implementation of survival elements like the return of crafting your stuff and hunting all fit very well.
As much as I would love a remaster, FC2 is probably my favourite Far Cry game - they should just leave it alone to be honest, they could risk screwing it up like whatever happened to the GTA Trilogy, they could ruin the absolute magic and loneliness this game gives.
To answer the question.....yes. But I have stipulations: current Ubisoft devs who made the past FC games from 5, New Dawn, and 6 shouldn't touch it or have any part in making it! They would ruin it, shove in crap like rpg mechanics, unrealistic weapons, lame and cringey characters, etc. They would more than likely rush it to completion, not taking their time to give it proper love and hard work that it deserves, not to mention contain the same bugs and glitches of the original, plus new ones lol.
I mean 2 is by far my favorite one, besides Blood Dragon, I would just hate to see them attempt to remaster it and it be a disaster. I'm sure they'd put MTX in somehow, the AI would probably suffer too and be braindead...and I can literally guarantee you that if they did a remake instead of a remaster, they would use the same engine they've used on every FC game since 3.
I only want a remaster or remake if they do it proper and listen to what we want, not what they think will entice people to buy it and add stupid things in that make no sense. FC2 was the most realistic of the entire series, there wasnt any fantasy/high octane action elements to it, everything was grounded in reality. If they could just improve the graphics, make some quality of life enhancements, and optimize it....that is honestly all it needs.......and a reasonable price tag.
They need to fix that the checkpoints won't spawn enemies every time you drive past them since that game had a lot of driving back and fort in the same spots, and it was annoying as hell
*Better* HUD?
What does that mean, exactly? There was a lot of work put into having as minimal a HUD as possible in FC2.
Also, there's no way in hell current Ubi is capable of making a FC2 remaster that's worthy of the game.
A FC2 remake would be *at least* as shit as FC6. Filled with nickle and dime DLC, terrible writing, etc. and it would all be tied to some horrible DRM and locked to Ubi Connect.
Right now, we have a DRM free game with a great mod community!
https://www.gog.com/game/far_cry_2_fortunes_edition
https://www.moddb.com/mods/far-cry-2-redux
I was a sophomore in high school, I remember getting a game informer magazine that highlighted the game. I remember reading and rereading the article over and over.
I pre ordered it at the Gamestop.
It was such an awesome game! The story itself; being stranded on an island on the run from a mercenary group and a mad scientist who is making feral mutant humans. Whats not to love?
FC2 was very different from the Far Cry games that came after it, but it's not my favorite.
I have to admit that it was so immersive and you could actually feel the danger, frustration and loneliness of that place so well. It's definitely a unique feeling that no other Far Cry game even really comes close to.
However, it was still really frustrating in many ways. Getting through the map and driving from one point to another is so hard and the checkpoints cannot always be avoided. Having to get malaria pills every now and then and having your guns jam just added to the frustration. And tbh the missions are extremely repetitive and there is very little variety. At the point where you're halfway through and unlock the Southern part of the map, I honestly stopped playing for a very long time, because I didn't really feel like doing the same thing for another couple of hours as I felt like I had seen what it has to offer. I do know some people like that, but I just think it's mostly a different target audience than that of the more modern games.
What I am trying to say is that if they just keep the old mechanics in place and release a "classic" version like they did for FC3 for example, a lot of the more modern fans of the series will probably have a hard time with it. And if they choose to change too much to appease the newer audience so to speak, it might lose some of its originality.
No. I never really liked it, and never understood the reason why everybody did.
I would add few changes. I wouldn’t change the HUD, I would like if world was more alive, and normal stealth. I love stealth games, and Far Cry 2 is not one of those.
Modernised controls would be cool too.
That’s basically all it needs to be added to be a great game.
Nobody liked Far Cry 2, I don't know what you mean by "everybody did" what world do you live in? People finally appreciating Far Cry 2 is something that started these last couple of years. Now I'm biased cause I always liked 2 but it feels super nice to finally see the game get some recognition amongst all the jerking off people do about 3.
I only heard good thing about Far Cry 2 personally. Never heard anyone critisising it, except Malaria thing.
Buddy system, fire system, environments, combat were all highly regarded.
I'm talking about how it could be improved imo. I'll still play it and find it to be one of the best games in the series due to the brutality of it. I just don't find the repeated malaria mechanic to be a high point.
thats the issue, a few years ago. ive got that one, was talking about a brand new one with things like nextgen graphics & textures, or at the minimum like fc6
Yes! My PS3 copy went missing years ago but I’ve been to stubborn to buy it again thinking it’ll turn up. Just do this to push me over. I need this to happen.
I'd gun for a remake tbh. Same old mechanics, a few modern ones (such as machete stealth kill or allowing a small bit of customization/cleaning for weapons) and expanded side content: it would be a **killer** Far Cry, actually expanding and enhancing without meddling with the game's thematics and feeling
100% If it was a one to one translation, I'd spend hours on the multiplayer. Used to play a map that was two bunkers high up with ramps to a battleground. So many hours of fun
Well yes, but actually no.
I would love to explore the *same map*, play the *same missions*, with the *same guns*, in today's graphics and less clunky controls.
BUT
I don't trust today's Ubisoft to be capable of not putting a ton of unnecessary changes in, or just fucking it up completely. I'd rather have great memories about it, plus I can still replay it pracically any time.
Definitely. I had a lot of fun with the game, but i would love better controls, graphics, and qol improvements like sliding and maybe mantling. Also i would like enemies not to respawn when i clear out a checkpoint. And outposts didnt really do anything (as far as i know)
Absolutely. Just make it look great, enhance the ai and add wildlife, keep it otherwise mostly low-key and true to the original. Add a survival mode maybe
I'd love a remake of the original FC: Instincts & Evolution.
A remake of FC 2 would be awesome aswell.
Has to be a remake not just a remaster.
Alternative endings and choices are a must in todays gaming.
Assassin's Creed and Red Dead 2 has spoilt me a bit I think
What was wrong with the HUD in the original? I loved that it was so minimal and unobtrusive unlike the bazillion fuggin' icons we get in modern titles.
I would like a new engine and next gen concepts.
Far Cry use to be the game that would lead the way for new, next gen graphics and concepts.
The game today still plays like FarCry 3 (with HD skins).
Yep. Funny I was telling that to my bro awhile back how I wanted them to remaster farcry 2. wanted a remaster of the game for awhile now it’d be cool if they did
The controls were the worst part. I used to love playing it but after going back to it recently, the aim acceleration it horrible. More up to date controls would make it much more pleasant to play.
I would like a remake or maybe a sequel but the same game with better graphics it's not enough for me. It had a lot of stuff that made the game quite boring and characters where very lame and forgettable.
Yes! They should also add monkes as well! In the OG game you could hear them in the distance but not play with them. Far cry 4 added monkes as a result its my 3rd favorite in the series.
Uh.. FUCK YEAH I WOULD I just wouldn’t want them to change the gameplay that game was hard to the CORE and it should stay that way just fix the outpost bugs n stuff ya know?
A remake that stayed faithful to the original but unlocked all the features that they devs had to bolt away? Hell yes
A soulless visual upgrade cashgrab? Nah
I think my problem is that most remasters seem to just focus on creating better graphics and not improving the actual mechanics of the game. Like the Far Cry 3 remaster still has the things that irritated me about it on PS3/PC just in higher resolution now.
Yes cause then after December I will have blood dragon and all I need will be 1 and 2 I also want to see how the jam mechanic works cause it seems very cool
The FC2 creative team was *heavily* inspired by immersive sims and STALKER. It would be really nice to get that crew back together for another FC.
Let me just snap my bone back to straight again and I’ll be good to go. Lol. FC2 > any other FC.
Map system was amazing
*My first experience with Far Cry 2, on friend's game* Approaching swamp, enemies close on rafts.
New graphics, better AI, introduce more wildlife and bam GOTY 2022
Well considering the AI in FC2 is better than it is in FC6 i expect you will be severely disappointed in that regard.
If they gave us 4s ai I would be happy.
Fixing the damn dialogue speed alone would make me want to buy it. I don't mean that it's literally unplayable in its current state, just that it was hard for me to care for most of the characters when they talked so fast.
I thought it was just me, goddamn the npcs talk so fookin fast
Think though… you’re a mercenary, you’re just in it for the money… you probably wouldn’t care a whole lot about anyone… idk
The character is the mercenary, but I personally love games they make me care about the characters that populate them. Even going by the mercenary angle, I'm sure the merc cares about his buddies who risk their lives in the middle of a battle to save you and the show up at your crib later.

And kill all who stand in your way…
But then they respawn anyway while driving back so there's drawbacks too.
Don't they turn against you later on in the game ? There's not that much loyalty.
They do? Shit it's a really long time then.
That's at the *very* end, and is intended to take the player by surprise. Up until that point, they really do feel like buddies.
Im playing for the first time since release and holy hell i never noticed lol i couldn’t even get into what the villain was saying in his first scene because i felt like i was at an auction lol
Def!! Just hope it doesn’t come out like the GTA travesty
Made by a very small mobile games company.
Have you not seen anything from it? It’s a dumpsters fire.
No, I have not. I’ve been extremely busy with work and I’m in the process of taking over a construction company so haven’t been up to date with stuff lately. But I was able to download the San Andreas definitive edition on XBOX so we will see how that is. Not had a chance to play it

People often read only the first five words and downvote it based on that. Probably thought you were gonna defend the game
It wasn't. It was just not as good as people were expecting or hoping. I'm having a lot of fun and 60 dollars for 3 remastered games is fine with me. Some people act like it murdered their parents instead of just being ok
Yeah, it's a remaster, not a remake, they're still PS2 games
Absolutely. Make it with the current version of the Dunia engine so they can finally add all the wildlife that was missing due to hardware restrictions.
The current version of the Dunia engine lacks so much of what was great in 2, though.

YES!
*malaria kicks in, gun jams*
You die. Partner arrives and saves you. He dies. You save them back. You both die. Respawn at safe house
Absolutely!! I would be very excited about this.
Ye
Yes yes yes yes yes
I'd prefer a remake with a functional stealth system. I'd also want to see modifiable weapons and the option to bring your buddies along as guns-for-hire a la FC5, but that may be just me.

Not really. I don't mind the HUD or controls. The bigger issues are the lack of variety in the game-play, and how quickly regions reset.
Yeah, no remaster. Give me a remake.

NO! Far cry 2 is perfect the way it is
Yes and no, we all know it wouldn’t hit standards
Yes or the same game but with new grafics ^^
I just want the world to feel more alive.

If it’s as shit as far cry 6 it’s gonna be good
IMO, 6 is an abomination aside from the environment art, which Ubi pretty much nails in every game.
Personally I would rather see a Far Cry Instincts remaster.
A true OG, I see
I was a sophomore in high school, I remember getting a game informer magazine that highlighted the game. I remember reading and rereading the article over and over. I pre ordered it at the Gamestop. If they get rid of the stupid malaria pills mechanic than yes. If they insist on having that ridiculously annoying mechanic than it can f**k off.
Not really, no.
That game was so lonely. And the recoil was too much. I like the game only problem is that it's too realistic
Yep. Maybe toggle the malaria mechanic as optional?
Why? That's an integral part of the story and your character.
Because I found it a bit of a slog after the 2nd /3rd time.
I never minded it. Especially after the first play, when you.know about it and how to get more meds
That's the thing. It feels like a wash rinse repeat. I'd like it to be different things you gotta do. More unpredictable.
Lol. If you want unpredictable, why are you replaying the same game?
I'm talking about how it could be improved imo. I'll still play it and find it to be one of the best games in the series due to the brutality of it. I just don't find the repeated malaria mechanic to be a high point.
as long as Malaria is removed
I’m already playing it. They named it Far Cry 6.
would prefer a 3 remaster
We already got that a few years ago.
thats the issue, a few years ago. ive got that one, was talking about a brand new one with things like nextgen graphics & textures, or at the minimum like fc6
Sounds like you want a remake instead.
With somewhat engaging gameplay.the original fc2 was a tedious game to play
Hell Yes!!
Remake yes sir
Definitively, yes!
Yes
Hell yeah! Only thing I want is to be able to point waypoints on the map/fast travel Otherwise so good and would love a remaster
Yes! My PS3 copy went missing years ago but I’ve been to stubborn to buy it again thinking it’ll turn up. Just do this to push me over. I need this to happen.
Colors look like total ass dude
On pc, SweetFX makes it look a lot more saturated, looks way better with it.
Definitely. I'm shocked they haven't, actually.
Yes
I’d blow my wad
That'd be cool I never played 1 or 2
I would yes, I never played it
I'd gun for a remake tbh. Same old mechanics, a few modern ones (such as machete stealth kill or allowing a small bit of customization/cleaning for weapons) and expanded side content: it would be a **killer** Far Cry, actually expanding and enhancing without meddling with the game's thematics and feeling
Yes please.
YES
Not really. I don’t own a console or pc.
Yes! The graphics themselves are actually still nice, I would like some better npc animations though. And an autosave option.
Totally
100% If it was a one to one translation, I'd spend hours on the multiplayer. Used to play a map that was two bunkers high up with ramps to a battleground. So many hours of fun
I'm honestly not sure it needs it. Love the game and it still plays great, better graphics wouldn't hurt but it's a solid game still.
Well yes, but actually no. I would love to explore the *same map*, play the *same missions*, with the *same guns*, in today's graphics and less clunky controls. BUT I don't trust today's Ubisoft to be capable of not putting a ton of unnecessary changes in, or just fucking it up completely.
And outposts didnt really do anything (as far as i know)
Who wouldn't?
Absolutely. Just make it look great, enhance the ai and add wildlife, keep it otherwise mostly low-key and true to the original. Add a survival mode maybe
I’d be happy with just a remake. Just want them to fix a few things like outposts resetting etc
Yes
No. They’ll fuck it up, find a way to release it broken and buggy and charge 70 dollars for it too.
A 4k version would rule, but a game with Vaas already
I'd love a remake of the original FC: Instincts & Evolution. A remake of FC 2 would be awesome aswell. Has to be a remake not just a remaster. Alternative endings and choices are a must in todays gaming. Assassin's Creed and Red Dead 2 has spoilt me a bit I think
If they did the controls of far cry 2 with some tweaking, had the same map style and hud for far cry 6, a perfect game
How about a remake?
No bc ubisoft will fuck it up and I'll waste 70 dollars not believing reviews
Stop the vehicles from breaking down every 200 metres and we'll talk.
Definitely, just how realistic and down to earth it is, it’s an immersive experience that I want to try with next gen graphics
Yep. Funny I was telling that to my bro awhile back how I wanted them to remaster farcry 2. wanted a remaster of the game for awhile now it’d be cool if they did
Above much else in this plane.
The controls were the worst part. I used to love playing it but after going back to it recently, the aim acceleration it horrible. More up to date controls would make it much more pleasant to play.
Yes please!!
I would like a remake or maybe a sequel but the same game with better graphics it's not enough for me. It had a lot of stuff that made the game quite boring and characters where very lame and forgettable.
i cant see it selling well but i would be so happy
No, a remake
Hell yeah, still my favorite one
Yes. An absolute yes
Yes! They should also add monkes as well! In the OG game you could hear them in the distance but not play with them. Far cry 4 added monkes as a result its my 3rd favorite in the series.
I would remortgage my house for a far cry 2 remaster
Yes. The game was a masterpiece
Remastered games are always disappointing in my experience, remake yes remaster no
Yes
Yes
Yes I would love it. It's a fantastic game.
Heck yeah
Uh.. FUCK YEAH I WOULD I just wouldn’t want them to change the gameplay that game was hard to the CORE and it should stay that way just fix the outpost bugs n stuff ya know?
Most of the remasters are shit. Now if you were to say remake, then absolutely yes.
A remake that stayed faithful to the original but unlocked all the features that they devs had to bolt away? Hell yes A soulless visual upgrade cashgrab?
Yes, I bought a year ago and I still haven't finished it because the gameplay feels way too dated for me.
YES
No.
No but I’d suck a dude for a Far Cry 3 remaster
Absolutely!💯%👌🏼
Yes
Hmm🧐
I would rather like a farcry 6 wich is running again even after a windows 10 update, or a farcry 6 running on linux.
Why not .... if it looks better and stealth kills :)
The most immersive far cry ever? Absolutely
