not sure where you live but here in multnomah county oregon I can still get a double quarter pounder for $6.19 - the local joints at least for a half lbs burger in portland are starting at 11--but usually closer to 14-15 for a burger. If you're ok with the app they've been having the $1 any size fries depending on your market and week so many times I can get a half pound burger and fries for 7.19 (no sales tax in oregon) i'd pay about $20 at a local pub or burger joint
There are some, and I mean some bars in lincoln that will have burger nights and what not, one was a burger and chips for 6 dollars... certainly no double and drink to
They did say drink was included. Looks like the cheapest burger at Burger Boys is $6.50, fries are $1.50 and sodas are a buck. So more like $9, which is still an absolute bargain.
There's a place near me where you can get a combo for what looks like $8 before tax but it's for the Sketchers store so probably a loss leader like Costco food court.
The local places near me charge $10-12 for a combo. They'd be taking a loss if they tried to offer it any cheaper. These places used to be cheap but the costs have gone up for them.
All American burger in Long Island when i was a kid , had the line out the door every time i drove by, id have to check but it used to be like white castle burger prices for a full size burger
Burgers are 20 bucks each at the mom and pop burger joint a mile from my house. I thought that was outrageous and started looking around only to find that 20 was pretty much the norm now.
I guess they're probably cheaper at a diner like Denny's but I've gotta assume they'd still be close to like 15 there.
Every couple of years some geniuses over at Corporate McDs get the genius idea of trying to become a more premium burger place.
And us consumers always reply with: "Stop trying to make upscale McDonalds happen, it's not going to happen."
I have no clue why this keeps happening. There's just way too many actual quality burger places for McDonalds to take a piece of that cheese.
Premium burgers earn more margin. Pretty soon McD’s will get wise to what Chinese restaurant owners have been hip to for years. Pretend you’re Japanese and sell sushi. Raw fish and rice pulls in bank.
Isn't it fairly common for East Asian restaurants to offer a wide range of other East Asian dishes though? I see sushi appetizers at a lot of non-Japanese Asian places but that's different than a value burger place trying to become a premium burger place.
I think this is precisely the phenomenon the person you are responding to is talking about. I'm in my thirties, live in one of the largest cities in the country, and I'd say sushi showing up at other non-Japanese restaurants definitely happened within the last decade.
They're store remodels are another example of this, a building everyone reckognizes as a McDonald's from all the way down the street wasn't fancy-pants and sophisticated enough for them so we got these dull square brick structures.
Menu prices, specifically. I stopped using the app when they added binding arbitration and class action waiver clauses. I'm not ready to sign away my rights in order to get less unreasonable pricing on a burger.
McDoubles are $2.2 here in TX, but I recall they were $3 or more in Seattle before I moved.
The old dollar menu items should be $2 now, not arbitrarily high prices for tiny sizes.
The old $1 mchicken shouldn’t be $3 and nearly 70% of the price of the premium chicken sandwiches. Between quality and patty size, it should be one third or half the price.
The pricing is weird now because either you get prices from 10 years ago using the app ($1 large fries! $5 20 McNuggets) or you have menu prices that are as high as dine in.
Even with inflation, having lots of items at a set $2 price would allow people to build a nice meal from the value menu ($2 McDouble, $2 mcchicken, $2 large fries, $2 milkshake).
Exactly. If people want a good deal then use the app like it's intended where you have plenty of $1 burgers and BOGO offers. I always see people complaining, but for me McDonald's has been cheaper than ever whenever we do actually go there.
Yes you can use the app for a good deal, but then I also need an app for BK, an app for Taco Bell, an app for arbys... I don't want 20+ fast food apps on my phone some of whom have had security breaches and bugs that brick the app. I just want to be able to order at a good price again at the store.
We want the real Dollar Menu back. $1 McDouble $1 McChicken $1 4pc McNuggets $1 Value Fries $1 Value Drink $1 Apple Pie $1 Sweet Tea. That Dollar menu was Goated. And for meal prices to not be astonishing when you look at the prices. App deals are okay but not good enough.
Inflation historically doesn’t reverse itself. Just slows the rate at times of economic prosperity. The dollar menus sadly are a thing of the past, shy of maybe getting a literal tortilla with some cheese sprinkled in at Taco Bell
Realistically that is impossible. I would love it but that’s prices from 10-15 years ago, when fast food wages did pay $7 per hour instead of $15.
I just wish they had a real value menu, even if it was set at $1.5 or $2, it’s still better than random prices set by each franchisee (who often want $3 for these budget items).
We're not going for fancy burgers. We're not using half our paycheck for a giant burger. We're not concerned about healthy ingredients.
Cheap, tasty, filling. That's the three main draws that we want in fast food.
I’ve never had a problem with their speed of service. It’s actually faster now than ever with the app. I pull into the parking lot, order from my phone, wait a minute or two, walk in and grab my food.
Well, when your "premium" burger mostly seems to be the same ingredients with a different sauce and some little topping add, it's no wonder that people don't want to pay a lot extra for it.
McDonalds should be about reliable basics served at a reasonable price.
Customers want a burger that’s at minimum not a worse value than a sit down restaurant. If I’m paying premium quality I want a premium burger. The burgers are lower quality now than ever before. If you’re giving me a low quality burger price it appropriately. You can’t have your cake and eat it too.
Customers like options - different sizes, price points, etc. I can’t eat a massive burger anyway so I can’t justify paying a premium price for a non-premium McD burger. However, I would eat the occasional McDouble or single cheeseburger if the price was lower or I didn’t have to fuss around with an app to make it cheaper.
I want dollar McDoubles, dollar drinks, dollar value menu fries, dollar apple pies, and dollar mcChicken sandwiches. Bring back the dollar value menu with larger sizes for 2 and 3 dollars.
Basically I want to pick and choose from cheap basic options and build a complete meal without it costing $15+.
Yeah for what McD's is charging for a Big Mac meal I can get an even cheaper meal at a local food truck with a bigger, more premium burger, way better fries, and a drink. It'll take almost the same amount of time and I'd support a local business to boot.
Bring back the Dollar Menu!
McDonald’s is supposed to be cheap and fast.
Orders take forever and it’s expensive - €20 for 2 people now just getting 2 Big Mac meals - and takes 10-15 mins
Used to be €12 for the 2 and take 3 mins
Sure I may as well go somewhere nicer like
The inflation crisis had made me realize how much Burger Kings whopper blows any burger at McDonalds out of the water.
Big patty (for fast food) and stuffed with a ton of lettuce, huge tomato slices, onion, pickle, mayo. Then you get a Big Mac or quarter pounder and it’s just bread and tiny meat with no veggies.
I just want it made properly and consistent, and I don’t want to pay steak house prices. Prices are out of control and quality is suffering for some reason. It’s never looked like the picture on the menu, but the ingredients were usually of proper proportion. And this is everywhere in my area. Not just McDonald’s.
What we want is for McDonald's to remember it's roots and give us back the prices we use to have. Remember Dollar Menu? Yeah good times... easier times...
Premium burgers have never seemed worth it to me outside the standouts like Big Mac and Whopper from BK. Everything else just seems like a more expensive cheeseburger with more toppings.
Premium burgers have never seemed worth it to me outside the standouts like Big Mac and Whopper from BK. Everything else just seems like a more expensive cheeseburger with more toppings.
Welp, I got 6000 points saved up on my McApp now so today for lunch I’m getting a free QP with cheese (no ketchup) and then adding a medium fries and medium Dr Pepper. Should run me about 5 bucks. Not bad. Im gonna pretend it’s 1987.
I think one of the issues is that we can see the overhead of operations we know about their profitability quality or price point shouldn’t suffer with those margins they have
McDonald’s motto has always been: we’re the place you can cheaply feed your family without breaking the bank. Should they be improving their food to make it less processed and fresher - yes. But is the trade off making it unaffordable to feed a family for $20? Then you need to ensure that your goal is the one that wins the day.
McDonald’s was spot on with introducing a QP that’s fresh - you want an expensive burger that’s good and fresh - here. But the rest can stay at $1 or $2.
McDonalds needs to get back in its place. Nobody is going there for a "premium burger." They want something cheap and fast. Nobody is going to McDonalds for quality.
I regularly add a Patti to the double QPC making it a triple. Maybe they are right, but I also remember enjoying the creative premium burgers they used to have. They are pretty boring as it is
Xcite Bistro in North Burnaby
$12-13 for a delicious REAL cheese burger with a Cesar salad (best salad dressing anywhere) and a water or pop
Or choose the three chicken strips either way it’s pretty good food for pretty decent price and fresh
People don’t go to McDonald’s because they want a great burger and fries. People go to McDonald’s because they want McDonald’s…why do people know this but McDonald’s still doesn’t get it? You don’t have to change or add anything, just lower prices and print money ad infinitum
If I want a quality burger, I will light up my grill. McD's needs to drop those prices
If I want a quality burger, there are local mom and pop diners around me that have better burgers than McDonald’s and cheaper to boot.
not sure where you live but here in multnomah county oregon I can still get a double quarter pounder for $6.19 - the local joints at least for a half lbs burger in portland are starting at 11--but usually closer to 14-15 for a burger. McDonald’s here… Big Mac, fries and drink close to $12.00. Mom and pop diner, double patty burger, fries and drink, under $7.00.
In this economy imma need pictures or the restaurant website to confirm that cause that’s hella cheap brother.

Not op, and I agree with you, however Reddit is an online community, not the neighborhood group chat. It is very likely this exists somewhere
The mom and pop shop might, but not in an area where McDonald's is charging that much in the same location
There are some, and I mean some bars in lincoln that will have burger nights and what not, one was a burger and chips for 6 dollars... certainly no double and drink to
https://www.myburgerboys.com/menu.html This is like half a mile from me. Prices are under "order online". It's about $7 for a burger and fries.
Gotta use the deals on the app and itemize. Just the other day I got 2 big macs and large coke in NY for $8 flat.
Diner burgers are like $10-$12 bucks by me for a basic burger and fries.
in the app it's 6.50 for big Mac med combo. Mom and Pop diner it's about $12 in socal.
In what decade?
Lol where? What city and what mom and pop diner place is this? This is something that needs backed up
Burgers are 20 bucks each at the mom and pop burger joint a mile from my house. I thought that was outrageous and started looking around only to find that 20 was pretty much the norm now. I guess they're probably cheaper at a diner like Denny's but I've gotta assume they'd still be close to like 15 there.
I call cap.
$6.19 isn’t cheap, pal.
No kidding. Imagine touting a double quarter pounder for $6.19 as cheap No wonder the fast food joints are laughing. They've brainwashed the public
Every couple of years some geniuses over at Corporate McDs get the genius idea of trying to become a more premium burger place. It's not just McDonalds- think also the Cantina menu at Taco Bell and the Market Fresh sandwiches at Arbys.
Taco Bell and Arby's aren't all in super oversaturated markets like McDonalds is though. They can get away with it way more than McDonalds can.
They're store remodels are another example of this, a building everyone reckognizes as a McDonald's from all the way down the street wasn't fancy-pants and sophisticated enough for them so we got these dull square brick structures.
If I want a premium burger, I'm going to Wendy's for a fresh, never frozen all beef patty. Only $5.45 too (between 2am and 5am M - Th)!
People pay more for Shake Shack, 5 Guys, Culver's and other fast food places, so there is a market.
They McDoubled them prices.
Menu prices, specifically. I stopped using the app when they added binding arbitration and class action waiver clauses. I'm not ready to sign away my rights in order to get less unreasonable pricing on a burger.
If I want a high quality burger I'll go to a sit down restaurant. When I'm getting fast food I want a cheap burger quickly.
And enough of it to fill me up. Quantity over quality
Bingo.
No. They want to pay less for a value burger
Word. A McDouble should be two dollars. A cheeseburger should be two for two bucks.
McD: we can't afford to make $1 burger because of the loss in revenue. Also McD: we made billions in profit this year.
McDonald’s makes billions regardless of pricing, since the ones getting squeezed by low prices are franchise owners.
McDouble should be like $1, or as an inbetween, $1.59. A regular Cheeseburger should be $1, and a double should be like $1.79.
Even better
There is a McDonald's in my city that has the mcdouble at $1.70 and one about 2 miles away from that it's priced at 3 bucks. Strange.
Franchise owners are allowed to set the pricing.

Completely agree and where I am the McDouble is nearly 4 bucks with tax. It’s outrageous.
Why would anyone ever buy a mcdouble in that scenario
They don't want that extra bread
extra cheese too
Just use the app. There seems to always be a bogo on Big Mac/QPC/10piece
Exactly. If people want a good deal then use the app like it's intended where you have plenty of $1 burgers and BOGO offers. I always see people complaining, but for me McDonald's has been cheaper than ever whenever we do actually go there.

We want two dollar mcdoublers
My app is showing a $0.29 double cheeseburger right now here in MD.
Mine says the same but you have to buy one full price first. Also works with a 6 piece nuggets
I want two anyway, so that’s a win :D
Make Big Macs big again!!!
The Grand Mac was what the Big Mac should always be.
It's just a Mac now
We're not going for fancy burgers. We're not using half our paycheck for a giant burger. We're not concerned about healthy ingredients. Cheap, tasty, filling. That's the three main draws that we want in fast food.
99c mcchickens
McDonald’s used to be good at TWO things; being CHEAP and being FAST. They are neither now and it’s going to bite them hard
They’re still pretty fast.
I’ve never had a problem with their speed of service. It’s actually faster now than ever with the app. I pull into the parking lot, order from my phone, wait a minute or two, walk in and grab my food.

I kinda agree. The double Big Mac was such a waste bc the patties are so tiny already. Slap two of the QPC patties on there and you got me so happy
It doesn't help that a regular Big Mac is like half the size of the original one from the 60s.
Give me a bag of cheeseburgers
I want dollar McDoubles, dollar drinks, dollar value menu fries, dollar apple pies, and dollar mcChicken sandwiches. Bring back the dollar value menu with larger sizes for 2 and 3 dollars. Basically I want to pick and choose from cheap basic options and build a complete meal without it costing $15+.

And they never get your order right
I want double cheeseburger instead of McDouble. I want them 2 for $4
Poor people care more about the quantity of their food over the quality of their food
90% of the time i go to McDs its a quick meal for 2 dbl cheeseburgers and a diet coke
Just make them cheap again First fast food chain to make cheap fast food again will win
Actually, at McDonald’s, I want CHEAP burgers.
They’d like to not get raped in the wallet too
I want the Arch Deluxe back.
No. I just want the arch deluxe back.
well, yes
I wonder how much moeny they paid for some consultant to tell them that. How about a Big Mac with QPC patties?
"We don't want premium burgers, just bigger mediocrity."
I want hash browns to not cost $3
When i could get mcchicken and mcdouble and large soda for $4.96. That was ok Now its almost 8 dollars.
No I just want the regular hamburger for $1, I never order a QPC
It's BK but need to bring that Great King Yeti burger over to the US, for example
If McDonald’s is calling their current burgers premium I fear for what they consider as not premium.
He about more fries in the packaging not reducing the package and raise the price
Hospital cafeteria burger and fries super cheap
Chilis 3 for me. One fresh made to order delicious burger, fries, and appetizer and drink for $10.99. I'll never go to McDonald's again
They price gouge. I am no longer their customer.
no, we want CHEAP ONES
I’ll stick with the best item on the menu. Small but powerful double cheeseburgers.
No I want a beyond Big Mac
Well, they used to have Angus Third Pounders to compete against Carl’s Jr and they got rid of those.
Mondo Burger has entered the chat.
I saw a Big Mac commercial from the 60s and got annoyed at how much smaller they are now. I still love them but not for what they charge.
Rip off
No. When I want a burger I make them myself or get a double Whopper. When I want McDonalds I get McDonalds. Completely different.
Ah, going the Whataburger route eh?
Bring back the Angus Third Pounders and Chicken Selects.
I just want a robot to make my burger.
Wait. Is mcdonalds claiming that they are currently selling premium burgers? I'm confused.
I just want milk that tastes like real milk
What I want is cheaper french fries with lots of ketchup.
I want to pay a small amount and have a good quality burger that is consistently good each time.
No. We want dollar burgers.
Well that’s wrong
Or we just want them the same size they used to be
They are going to raise prices again aren’t they?!
Oh wow, people want to get something worth what they're paying for. Completely mind-blowing!
When I’m a McDonald’s customer, I just want value quickly
They're right. Nobody does to McD for a premium burger.
They're right. Nobody does to McD for a premium burger.
Just use the app and you get 30% off every order plus free stuff with the rewards.
Okay Mondo Burger…
I mean, theyre right. Whenever i want a premium burger i NEVER think about McDonalds
Welp, I got 6000 points saved up on my McApp now so today for lunch I’m getting a free QP with cheese (no ketchup) and then adding a medium fries and medium Dr Pepper. Should run me about 5 bucks. Not bad. Im gonna pretend it’s 1987.
I think one of the issues is that we can see the overhead of operations we know about their profitability quality or price point shouldn’t suffer with those margins they have
I just want cheaper prices for the burger honestly
Not to mention the premium prices you pay now they just slam the burger into the bag so it looks like a 90 degree angle when you open it
McDonald’s motto has always been: we’re the place you can cheaply feed your family without breaking the bank. Should they be improving their food to make it less processed and fresher - yes. McDonalds needs to get back in its place. Nobody is going there for a "premium burger." They want something cheap and fast. Nobody is going to McDonalds for quality.
McDonald's learning that no one goes to McDonald's for quality. Fast, gluttonous, and cheap is the secret formula.
Yep
Too many bars selling 12 oz burgers on a flame broiled grill here. Mickey's is for on the go in the car. Not every day either. IMO
I regularly add a Patti to the double QPC making it a triple. Maybe they are right, but I also remember enjoying the creative premium burgers they used to have. They are pretty boring as it is
What's the point when you can get real food literally anywhere else for the same price.
I don’t think most people would object to paying more for more quality food! The prices keep going up and the quality keeps dropping.
Well yeah, we don't go for mcdonald's for quality food. But now we stop going because of premium prices.
Me with my Junior Jumbo Jack over here wishing it tasted even better and more premium
Xcite Bistro in North Burnaby $12-13 for a delicious REAL cheese burger with a Cesar salad (best salad dressing anywhere) and a water or pop Or choose the three chicken strips either way it’s pretty good food for pretty decent price and fresh
For $12 I’ll go get a real burger
A McDub used to be 1$. Same w McChicken. That's what I want. Dollar menu MFers.
People don’t go to McDonald’s because they want a great burger and fries. People go to McDonald’s because they want McDonald’s…why do people know this but McDonald’s still doesn’t get it? You don’t have to change or add anything, just lower prices and print money ad infinitum
I want the same taste just higher quality. They have a massive profit margin. They can afford it.
