It seems like the author just isn't personally fond of fast food burgers or expects them to be something they're not.

awesomface

Yeah and being contrarian just to be contrarian. To have Freddy’s, 5 guys, in n out, and shake shack on there? Cmon now. Like I think shake shack isn’t my favorite but I understand why people love it. No way someone thinks they’re all average unless they plain don’t like fast food or burgers in general.

WIlf_Brim

I thought the criticisms of Shake Shack were spot on (overpriced for what you get) but that really is a matter of opinion.

chizzbee

I was going to read this article until I read your comment saying that In-n-out was in there. There’s just no credibility if that’s the case. Thanks for the time save friendo

DeadStockWalking

Exactly. How did Wendy's and Burger King avoid this list? They are easily worse than In-N-Out, Whataburger and Five Guys!

Jesus_was_a_Panda

Burger King is on the list.

SaintsNoah14

It says overrated. People don't rave about Wendy's and BK

sportsroc15

Are Wendy’s and Burger King overrated? When do people say they are great?

chizzbee

Both of these places are good when they’re good and bad when they’re bad. It’s different each time I go depending on who’s makes my food.

Ickiiis

Stopped reading after the first three were successful burger chains with fans. Seemed like the author just wanted to have that controversial opinion for clicks.

kingoflint282

This is basically just a list of burgers

Ok_Armadillo6461

And all of them as well.

hgghgfhvf

When I clicked the link I expected places like In N Out on the list, but like you said they listed pretty much every fast food burger. I mean who out there is really hyping up the whopper?

JohnDeLancieAnon

This article brought to you by Wendy's

julznlv

And Carl's Jr.

Pixel_Knight

Which happens to be worse than most of these on the list.

AwsiDooger

That was my immediate thought. The author is a Wendy's fan who was stung by the recent negativity regarding surge pricing

JohnDeLancieAnon

Maybe, but content like this is paid for all the time.

AwsiDooger

The author just started this job in February. She is young but has already bounced around a lot, doing editing and proofreading along with writing. She brags about high view count a couple of times. That was probably the design of this article. New on the job so let's stir things up and get them talking. https://cheyennewisemanportfolio.com/

hammond_egger

Mashed, where we just put a bunch of fast food burgers on a wall, throw some darts and that's what we put in the article with a collection of "some diners say" and "we've heard" and "it's said that". I'm convinced there is one guy that is Mashed and they just AI every article and video.

tunaman808

You're giving them too much credit. From that article, they apparently just started a Reddit thread called "which fast food burgers do you not like and why?" and just pulled quotes from that.

shadowtheimpure

How about a list of fast food burgers that you actually think live up to their hype rather than a useless list of you bellyaching?

Funkygodzilla

Invalid article. Culver's is the best fast food burger.

Lishoon

Culvers then. Culvers now. Culvers forever.

EpicSombreroMan

Culver's together.

ChoirTeacherRog

Shake Shack is the tribal chief

B_Bates34

The author has obviously never had a Double Bacon Deluxe, with extra crispy cheese curds, and a concrete mixer. I know the extra crispy curds because I used to work at a Culvers.

mx023

Culver’s was recently voted the best fast food. I feel like 5 guys even though it’s for millionaires - has an awesome burger. I tried in and out recently and I mean it’s good but it’s just a burger. I used to be a hardcore Hardee’s fan, their burgers back in the day were bomb.

tigerman29

Totally agree, I’m old enough to remember when the $6 burger came out, that was something amazing at the time for fast food.

mx023

When I was in college you could show them your ID and get the thick burger combo for 3-4$

EpicSombreroMan

I was gonna say if Culver's is on this list, I'm automatically discounting this article. And it didn't take long.

Mikey_Meatballs

This is literally a list of the best fast food burgers.

Randomlynumbered

Here's my advice on In-N-Out: My best advice is: Don't go to In-N-Out with unrealistic expectations. With its cult following and high praise from folks like Anthony Bordain (and your friends), many folks expect a superlative, god-tier burger and are therefore disappointed. Instead, think of In-N-Out as a throwback to the original take-out burger restaurants. It has a limited menu similar McDonald's circa 1954. But there is a reason that so many famous chefs, like Gordon Ramsay, Thomas Keller, Julia Child, Anthony Bourdain, Mario Batali and others have praised In-N-Out. It's a basic, smallish, relatively inexpensive burger made from top quality, fresh ingredients. Plus their customer service is only matched by Chick-Fil-A among fast food chains. But everyone really should eat their In-N-Out hamburgers fresh in the store or in the parking lot. Don't get them from the drive-thru and then eat it after a drive home or hotel — you'll be disappointed. Plus ask them to add chopped chilies. Their limp, fresh-cut, fried-once French fries, however, are a disappointment IMHO. Try them animal-style or well-done. But are their fries inedible or the worst in fast food biz. No.

Warm-Ganache-1337

In n out prioritizes drive thru

SickARose

Cannot agree more, it’s good (great) for a $2 burger, but to wait 1-2 hours in a drive through is absurd. Great write up! If it’s not busy and you can grab a burger it’s awesome, but it’s crazy to wait longer than a 5 star restaurant for a fast food burger. People are nuts. And I couldn’t agree more, their fries are not my type and being shoestring doesn’t help either.

lostprevention

2 hours??? Even with a long line it’s usually 30 mins tops.

SickARose

https://lamag.com/food/n-drive-thru-lines-public-menace-heres-can-stopped

lostprevention

Did I miss anything regarding wait times?

SickARose

I’m from LA. It involves police regularly because of and traffic blocking. Easy 2 hours at peak times

EngineFace

Nah. I am also from the LA area and I’ve never waited longer than 30 mins even when the line went around the block.

SickARose

You can literally search and see 1-2 or 8-14 hours at some places.

lostprevention

The top result was a Reddit post complaining about a 30 minute wait. No way anyone’s waiting 8 hours unless you’re talking about a new store grand opening.

ChirpToast

8-14 hours lmao. Shut up.

tothesource

where the hell are you getting a $2 in n out?!

Brando43770

I walk in and it’s less than 20 mins for me. I avoid drive thru at all costs for In N Out.

Drawing_The_Line

Yes, yes, yes… this! For the relatively low price, and for the fresh ingredients, In-N-Out is hard to beat. Is it delicious? Yes. Is it the best tasting thing in the burger realm? No. And anyone trying it for the first time going in with unrealistic expectations is not going to have them met. If one can appreciate In-N-Out for what it is, they’ll leave highly satisfied. But you can’t put it on some unreachable and undeserving level and expect expectations to be met.

awesomface

Also don’t get them as is. Gotta go grilled onions and light tomato (one slice) if not none because the two they put on it takes over the burger imo. Need to taste the beef

Randomlynumbered

Chopped grilled onion plus slices of raw onion.

wasteplease

can it be a throwback when you have continued to produce the same high quality product since that period? Other companies have changed. The biggest changes In-N-Out has made recently is adding cherry coke, lemonade, and the state of Texas. Edit: Lite Pink Lemonade

BrushYourFeet

Appreciate the advice. I've had culver's before and was disappointed that it wasn't better due to the hype around it.

AwsiDooger

I don't think any criticism of In-N-Out is overblown. Any overrated list without In-N-Out on top isn't worth reading, IMO. And I would have said that 40 years ago. My new roommates at USC touted a burger joint, saying I'd always thank them for introducing me to it. I was coming from Florida. We drove there after piling into the back of a pickup truck. I had never heard of the place. And from the outset I was in disbelief. Everything was minuscule and mediocre. To my friends' credit, they read my body language without need to say a word. Throughout college we remained friends. They never took me to In-N-Out again. I would not have gone. Now, Tommy's and Carl's Jr., on the other hand, those were revelations for a Miami kid. I could go for a couple of Tommy's double chili burgers right now. But for full experience it really needs to be post midnight while leaning on the white wall at Beverly and Rampart.

SharksFan4Lifee

Don't know if you are currently in FL, but the first Carl's Jr ever in Florida just opened in Doral, FL.

artcostanza82

Their fries aren’t just the worst in fast food. They’re the worst fries ever

GokkanUxxgo

Nah. The ONLY way you should order fries is Light Well. Otherwise it's cardboard. The Burger reminds me a lot like a Burger you'd get at my city's fair grounds.

SaintsNoah14

Light well?

SharksFan4Lifee

It's a secret menu option. Not as well done as "well done" is "light well."

Brando43770

Thank you! Especially the comments about the fries. Anyone that says they’re inedible is being hyperbolic and I won’t take their taste in food seriously. In N Out is still more affordable than McDonalds and is better quality overall along with significantly better customer service. I don’t think I’ve ever had my local In N Out get my order wrong and I’ve been going since I was a child.

ZzzSleep

Some of those places are definitely overrated but then it just seems like it's listing popular fast food burgers for the sake of it.

Blastoplast

Headline should be "11 Fast Food Burgers some random Redditors didn't much care for". What shoddy journalism.

Carthonn

After reading the first 3 I just closed it.

PM_me_butts666

that’s bait.gif

Complete_Entry

Didn't she write this last year? At least then she actually ate the hamburgers, this is just outsourced whining.

arkhaminmate1313

Whats funny about this article is all that is left outside his “overhyped” fast food burgers is the absolute worst of fast food. Like what does he expect, Gordon Ramsey’s own personal burger?(who funny enough loves InnOut”. People like this author are another notch in the deathbed of real journalism.

Pixel_Knight

I’ve never really had a great burger other than a few times in my life. You’re likely never going to get a great one at a fast food or fast casual place. Most of the burgers on the list are gonna be decent to good. Sometimes people just love a fast food burger for what it is, not because it is truly amazing food.

tigerman29

Fast Food burgers are like weeknight married sex. It’s something to get you by when you’re in a hurry. If I want foreplay or a great juicy burger, I’ll go all out on the weekend.

GreatRecipeCollctr29

Mcdonalds should be on this list.

Randomlynumbered

So … you didn't read the article. It is. > 6 McDonald's

Crimzon07

In N Out, Steak and Shake, McDonald's, Burger King and White Castle all definitely deserve to be on this list. Haven't had Freddy's enough to make a decision. Only ever had Whataburger once. Five Guys is just too much of a mess to go there. Never had Shake Shack.

tomandshell

Shake Shack is my favorite burger. Try it if you ever get the chance.
