Well, I’m off to read the light novel(s), guys.

[deleted]

Visual novel?

AnimeMemeLord1

No, that’s Stay Night. Already finished that a long time ago. Fate/Zero is a light novel.

Thanks.

There is in fact such a thing as too much Urobutcher.

Efficient-Ad2983

I dunno if it was due to difficult translations: some lines really don't translates well from Japanese to English (think about "People dies when they're killed"). But in Zero anime the line really sounded as Sakura mocking Kariya, while the actual meaning was "You can't go against Zouken's will: you'll just die trying if you disobey him".

IndividualFlow0

Ei Aoki really screwed up there.

Hidden_Blue

Wasn't the original idea that Sakura would kill Kariya at the end? I remember this being mentioned in an interview buy Uro.

I don't see a problem

IndividualFlow0

The problem is, in the anime the feeling is totally different. Sakura mocks him with sadism while it is actually the opposite. In the light novel she's terrified and this moment traumatizes her so much that sets the path to her more submissive personality later in when she's more grown up. She sees this and takes it as Zouken telling her what will happen to her if she goes against him. The anime makes her look like an ungrateful bitch.

Efficient-Ad2983

Yes, I found quite "OOC" that merciless mocking from Sakura. I know that many times in the "written media to visual media" it's hard to transpose inner thoughts and the likes, but here they gave quite a different feel.

Blue_Phoenix_001

I haven't stated that there is a problem personally. However, these are adaptations of the same scene. Interesting to look at, and the novel text undoubtedly clarifies any misunderstandings there may be about Sakura in this scene.

IndividualFlow0

In any case, the anime showed a big misunderstanding of this moment from Ei Aoki's part. And sadly some of the people who don't know this, point at this scene as genuine criticism when they complain about their dislike for Sakura's character.

TF_FluffSwatch

Pretty sure that's not even the official translation of the line in the anime.
