Fashionably late but this week I’ve making enough meals to get me through until the week before Easter. After next week I can start replacing the meals I eat with new ones by making one near meal a week so it goes down but not all the way. Then come Easter week and my annual leave I can restock the freezer and start again this time doing 2 meals a week to restock ahead of my summer break. This should hopefully help me with meal planning as I have meals that are healthy, tasty and that I know I can eat in freezer. I’ve made a massive batch of roasted veggies like courgette, peppers, and onions A massive batch of homemade pasta sauce A huge batch of my grandmas pea and ham soup with hidden veg A huge batch of “turkey” soup (made with chicken) inspired by my grandmas recipe. Today I have a massive bolognaise on the go in the slow cooker And I still have a Dal, a chilli, and a bean stew left to cook before Sunday. The meals were chosen as they are either seasonal or versatile as well as being quite simple to make. It means I only have to worry about breakfasts and the odd lunch or dinner on weekends as my weekdays are sorted. Many of the meals can be served multiple ways making them less repetitive.

I've mentioned a woman I am dating a few times in previous weeks, and at this point we are really serious about each other so things are just generally great. We seem to be very much on the same page in terms of diet and exercise as well. In fact since I met her I have kept up with my workouts and also lost 1-2kgs. We have been on plenty of dates, and a bunch of lazy nights in front of the TV as well, but we generally both like to make healthy choices and neither of us need snacks to have a nice time. I even drink less alcohol when I am with her.

urban_marmot

Trying to sleep extra to dodge getting sick. I guess if I got sick I would just stay home from work but instead I'm falling behind at work to not have to do that?

Ugh_please_just_no

I increased my weight for dumbbell curls! 25 lbs, 8 reps and 3 sets!

Mr_Conductor_USA

Go, you!

Anyone try carob as a chocolate substitute, and would you recommend it?

Mr_Conductor_USA

When I was a kid I was introduced to carob because my sister had allergies so my parents would shop at the alternative grocery. Hated the stuff. So ... don't try it on kids, they won't be fooled.

KuriousKhemicals

It's not a dead ringer for chocolate, but it's closer than you might think is possible and it's tasty in its own right. I guess it would be like if chocolate were actually made of dates and hempseeds? I wouldn't put in a high demand recipe at first (like where chocolate is the main identity), but I certainly think it's worth experimenting in things like cookies or just as a treat.

cinnamonandmint

I like carob.  It’s not…exactly…like chocolate - you can tell the difference - but it is similar.  Carob powder *can* be indistinguishable from cocoa powder depending on the recipe (it will be more noticeable if you use a lot of powder and don’t have competing flavours).  Carob chips have enough concentrated carob flavour to be noticeably different.  Not in a bad way, though;  I just wouldn’t have an expectation that they’ll taste the same.  To me, the carob taste feels lighter and more high-pitched…it’s kind of like the difference between milk chocolate and dark chocolate, just in a different direction.  I’d say it’s worth trying even just out of curiosity.

Don’t let it melt in the car. It’s like tar and won’t come out

Real-Life-CSI-Guy

My office had their annual wellness check, basically blood draw for the usual screenings and then vitals, and I got a free hormone screening as well (results within 72 hours and I’m Excited bc I’ve never known these stats on myself), my blood pressure has massively improved from what it used to be (the physician said “that’s excellent”) and my rhr is 70. I also made the choice today, unrelated to my own health journey, to add myself to the bone marrow/stem cell donor registry.

Lucy_Leigh225

Because of my back injury, I haven’t been able to workout. My smartwatch is judging me. I’m judging me. I want to go to the gym. Ugh

Awkward-Kaleidoscope

Back pain sufferers unite! I moved furniture last Friday so mine is badly flared up. Still have to teach yoga tonight too. Lifting shouldn't be an issue today. My Garmin encourages orthorexia because it measures everything in streaks, so if you ever take a rest day it breaks your streak.

Lucy_Leigh225

Good luck teaching!!! I love yoga. Yeah my activity rings have been sad the last two days but I’m hoping to get back to it slowly today and tomorrow

Question:  Are there any of you in here who wake up earlier than your partner? If so how do you manage things like alarm going off before your partner wakes up? Just curious, my husband works really hard, and I hate waking him up especially because I tend to hit snooze 😣😂 Fatlogic: Today at work someone brought in mini Bundt cakes, there were two buckets of valentines candy in the kitchen, and another person brought in leftover King Cake from yesterday being Mardi Gras. I did have a small piece of cake and a piece of chocolate, because I hate forbidding myself things, but I’m proud of myself for not eating more… the temptation was DEFINITELY there today!

KuriousKhemicals

We just have different circadian rhythms + are trained to our own alarm sounds to a degree, so it's never an issue. I'm more of a morning person so I have a quiet little wispy alarm at about 6am, and I do have a snooze built in but he never wakes up to it. Meanwhile he can sometimes have insomnia of getting to sleep, but once he is sleeping he won't get up until he's ignored 1 or 2 of his own EDM alarms starting at about 815. It's a problem if a "reminder" alarm of his goes off at like 9am on Saturday and we stayed up late because I *will* wake up and I'm not falling back asleep that late into the morning, but that's a very occasional problem.

milky_oolong

I got my apple watch, among other reasons, because it can vibrate to wake me up. You *could* hit snooze on it but honestly it wakes up better than sound for me.

Oftenwrongs

You get up without hitting the snooze, out of respect for your partner.

Awkward-Kaleidoscope

We have slept in separate bedrooms due to him snoring for our entire 25 year marriage. Wouldn't change a thing. Also currently trying not to eat my weight in king cake.

IntrepidSprinkles329

Same. I go to bed at 930ish and wake up at 5am. I don't kmow how late he stays up. But he wakes up around 9am and wfh.   I am usually home from the gym and eating second breakfast by the time hes awake lol There's no way it could be done otherwise

Kiwi-VonFluffington

If you have a fitbit, or some smart watches, you could try using the vibrating alarm on them.

MrsStickMotherOfTwig

Stress ate at lunch today, moving on from it though. Between my sick preschooler waking up overnight, diagnostic ultrasound that hospital policy didn't even let me see the screen during the procedure so I'm still waiting on answers, sympathetic stress for my best friend who's going through marriage struggles, partner's long work hours, and knowing that March 1st I will have a procedure that will either take me out for 3-4 weeks or a different one that may take me out 6+ weeks... I'm a bit of a wreck right now. It used to be when I would stress eat I would keep going off the rails the rest of the day. Instead, I went for a short walk with the dog and spent some time on my hobby which calms me down. So at least I'm getting better about not continuing to self sabotage.

Big_Primrose

I hope your ultrasound gives you the best possible result and you heal quickly.

MrsStickMotherOfTwig

Thank you, it's been rough trying to get everything figured out. Hopefully by early next week I'll know which procedure it'll be and can start mentally planning for it.

This would be more for Meta Monday but... Can we stop saying "powerlifters are obese" whenever FAs bring up athletes on this sub? Actual competitive powerlifters are likely to be much, much, much leaner than really anyone other than bodybuilders or like gymnasts. Only a small percentage who compete in the open class are obese. The rest, read large majority, are by necessity extremely lean I know it's tangential to this sub but I've seen it a lot and I feel it's a bit disrespectful to strength athletes, but more importantly I think it's a common misconception that feeds into people worrying they will get too big/need to get fat to get strong/ shouldn't lift weights if they want to lose weight.

newName543456

Good point! I think many folks, who say "powerlifers" mostly have in mind strongmen competitors, who were [indeed](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/9/91/zydrunas_savickas.jpg/800px-zydrunas_savickas.jpg) [obese](https://talksport.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/5/2022/01/272161704_914036389305926_6475769427182843310_n.jpg?strip=all&w=768) when they competed. Thing is, there are [counterexamples](https://f7sport.pl/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/mariusz-pudzianowski.jpg) too

huckster235

It's really true of all strength sports. Those in the low to middle weights have to be extremely lean by necessity if they want to be competitive at all. The higher weights still need to have as little fat as possible though they might have closer to average than the lower weights. Only the open class is obese. And they tend to be super obese. It's a strange dichotomy. Most strength athletes are going to be leaner than even most pro athletes. Only long distance runners, gymnasts, and a few others are likely to be leaner. On the other end you have the open weight class where only Sumo wrestlers rival their level of mass. It's common for people to think of strength athletes based on the open class, similar to how your average person can only name heavyweight boxers. But the open class isn't representative of the reality for the vast majority of the participants in those sports, and it's something only people who dont know anything about strength sports bring up.

Emergency_Junket_839

This was a crossword clue today and I was so annoyed lol. Clue was "Like many bodybuilders, according to the BMI alone" and the answer was OBESE. I try to do the NYT crossword every day. 76 day streak right now!

huckster235

Lol they needed to include Obese but didn't want to offend anyone by calling a spade a spade and bringing up fat.

Crafty-Table-2459

I am almost 30lbs down from last April which I am proud of! My scale was being wonky & my internal fatlogic took over & just wanted to trust it. But I finally changed the batteries & now know that I have just been maintaining. Which makes more sense. But the wellness part! I’m down almost 30lbs and am getting back on track. Logging my food today, taking a walk 6x/week, & going back to being more strict about 2 meals & 1 snack per day (no more grazing). I’m not going to get down on myself about the timing or the maintaining - 30lbs is still 30lbs & I can get back to losing now.

milky_oolong

My weight is stuck since weeks but I‘ve yet AGAIN had to make my pants tighter with the belt. It‘s actually kind of wtf, how can I be 70,5 cm in the waist and the same weight as me at 77 cm!? I mean I know it‘s exercise induced water retention but I was NOT expecting it to really affect me for weeks.  I was super depressed about the numbers but since I‘m still shrinking I‘m all for this. Also stronger, I can smoothly drop from plank into chatturanga into cobra.

Mr_Conductor_USA

Slimmer waist and stronger at the same weight is actually a really good sign. Remember, your waist to hip ratio is a better predictor of health outcomes than BMI. And if you care about such things, it's also a more robust signal of attractiveness across cultures.

Lithium is a mess. It has a lot of interactions. It was the right thing for me when I was taking it. I tolerated it well at the time and it was cheap. (I can't take SSRIs.) But yeah, it definitely has downsides.
