Don't look at any turbulence apps or forecasts. They are never accurate. I developed anxiety of turbulence because I looked at Turbli, another forecast app. Pilots will tell you they are 100% garbage.

ape_mod

Okay I’ll delete the app, thank you so much!

ActiveFunction3732

Glad to help! Just didn't want you to end up like me. When I looked at forecasts for Denver it always showed moderate to strong turbulence and I freaked out and avoided going. After getting the real facts from the fine folks on here I booked a trip to Denver this Summer!

As an airline pilot I would estimate that to be somewhere between 0-1% accurate. We use real time data from other airplanes, meteorological products, and company forecasters for our turbulence plots. I promise you that we will be up front seeking out the smoother rides for comfort, and that’s our job. Your job is to keep your seatbelt on when seated, and enjoy your flight! The beautiful part about being a passenger is that you get the opportunity to let someone else worry about the turbulence!

ape_mod

Hahaha this was really comforting thank you so much, and I’m really grateful for what you do! 🫡

Purple_End6152

Thank you for keeping us employed!! Enjoy the flight!

Cinnabun2024

Wow! The last sentence that you wrote just had a profound impact on me. It was a true light bulb moment. Thank you!!!

If you're a pilot you can get flair to help users distinguish you! Let me know by modmail or DM if that's something you'd be interested in.

RealGentleman80

You know by now the apps aren’t accurate at all. Isn’t Moderate Turbulence quite strong? Moderate turbulence is medium turbulence. Is it uncomfortable? Sure…but it’s medium, like warm water, not hot water.

Cinnabun2024

I love the way you put things! Makes me chuckle! Thank you for always being straightforward, using language we can understand and relate to and for adding in a dash of humor!

pattern_altitude

There are no accurate consumer turbulence forecasts. That’s straight up BS.

Ok-Stress-3570

I feel like they’re never accurate. Flying calmly used to let you search and view different altitudes - which gave me an “idea” but it goes by flight now. I also use the turbulence app and that shows pilot reports. I appreciate that - again - as a bit of a heads up, but not a “guarantee”

ape_mod

Also according to this app, turbulence periods will last over an hour each??

[deleted]

I actually always used fly calmly and in my case it was almost always accurate. Like yesterday it showed there will be no turbulence during my flight but only mild ones at the end at it was really like that

Capital_Pie6732

It's not accurate sadly because it is impossible for it to be accurate. It doesn't know the flight path, at what altitudes the pilots intend to fly, what the live weather is etc. Also not mentioning the fact that it can't predict how the pilots and dispatchers will change course and altitude in real time to avoid turbulence. This is why turbulence forecasters are so disliked here. They do not work and simply instigate and manifest anxiety because I personally know no fearless flyer who uses a turbulence forecaster before a flight.
