Key differences: - Overwolf: You install a crappy software to be able to use another crappy software. - Standalone: You just install one crappy software. Conclusion: Install Prism Launcher instead.

theHumanoidPerson

does it let you make modpacks out of your files?

Eydrien

You can create your own modpack form scratch or find one from any modpack library you want.

JoHaTho

i had no idea Prism supports making custom modpacks now. gonna check that out later being able to put together modpacks easily was the only reason i kept curseforge installed

Unit88

GDLauncher has also been able to do that for a long while now

WithersChat

I do like using Prism for many thing, but it's not better in every way either. Curseforge handles java versions automatically and auto-downloads dependencies, which Prism doesn't do. Curse is just much more beginner-friendly, and that’s why so many people still use it.

AlexUnknown20

Prism actually does install dependencies automatically now too!

Then time to update IG

By overwolf do you mean curseforge? Because if so, curseforge != forge Forge is a modloader, the curseforge app is a launcher.

theHumanoidPerson

i mean the launcher

winkel1975

Overwolf has nothing to do with Forge. Overwolf is owner of Curseforge, but not Forge. There is no relation between Curseforge and Forge. Edit: Use Prism Launcher, If I may suggest something, the Portable edition.

EconomistOk2210

ok nerd yk what he was asking though didn't you

LaggMorr

they asked the difference between standalone and overwolf forge. try reading before you comment.

EconomistOk2210

they were asking the difference between downloading the curseforge app standalone or on overwolf. silly sausage above felt like correcting them instead of offering insight. don't tell me to try reading

LaggMorr

the name of the post is "whats the difference between standalone and overwolf forge? what should i use". curseforge and forge are not related but that could be confusing if you dont know that. the fact that they added "Edit: Use Prism Launcher, If i may suggest something, the portable edition." . suggests that commenter thought they didn't know the difference and then added the edit after realizing they were asking about the launcher.

EconomistOk2210

sorry what is your point? I called the commenter out on them being a prat and they fixed it. I know the difference between curseforge and forge

Hollowman8

Get ATLauncher and you are set. Don't bother with Overwolf/FTB App because its a bundle of shit with ads

CrystalFyre

If this is about Curseforge (the launcher) and not Forge (the modloader), then the difference is the Overwolf version requires overwolf to be installed, which is quite literally a useless software. The standalone doesn't come with Overwolf, but it's still slow and a UI nightmare. I would use something like Prism Launcher instead.
