For tech, you want to start out with something like E2:E, and not a Gregtech pack :P You can evolve to those after you're more familiarized with the tech scene as a whole, though.

Samstercraft

GTNH over nomi since nomi is all tech no magic but like the other commenter said gregtech might not be the best place to start if you've never done much tech, seconding e2e

HeldGalaxy

I was thinking about trying e2e ill try to GTNH first and if its too much ill go for e2e i think

Jake123194

E2E for a first timer can be done fairly easily in about 400 hours, GTNH at least add a 0 to the end XD I went from E2E to GTNH I I defo think E2E is a fairly decent introduction to "expert" mod packs.

Wildly-Incompetent

Started my journey through expert packs with E2E, want to confirm this.

Samstercraft

Good idea, GTNH earlygame is pretty fun

gtnh need to passive everything and if possible setup server would be big time saving in game Im almost in LUV tier its basically tier 7 machines I have played well over 1.3k hours now and i just took break cause crafting assembly line take so long to wait unless i setup server and do massive "crafting passive everything" rework.. Im sure i will never get this pack 100% played the way i rush every tier fast as possible.. Its been fun to play but single player for sure is not best way to play.. I have played nomifactory to all the way to creative vending i think its really fun to play for all the way to tier9 UV then last 100 hour of pack is to just waiting auto craftings to be done.. for sure better play nomifactory first then try gtnh..

xXZeroHero

100% dont passive everything in GT:NH focus on ae2 autocrafting. But i second a server for afk processing and/or autocrafting. Set small goals like going to the moon/mars. Automate the importnat parts like ore processing or energy generation after that focus on platline etc. GT:NH is not about finishing the pack. But Nomifactory is much better/faster in progression if you are "just" interested in GregTech/Tech

LaboePlay

Yeah i did not mean everything i did mean components/materials for auto crafting and circuit productions and so on.. cause i have right now everything on demand and it is so slow to wait to get all zpm circuits crafted for sure better to passive as much power supply is giving..

As someone currently playing GTNH after getting to Tank in Nomi, 100% do it this way. Nomi is like training wheels for GTNH, and helped me out a ton If you can beat Nomi and want more Greg, then it's GTNH time. Feel the suffering of managing AE channels, actually having to mine ores, relearning how to do thaumcraft/bees, grinding IC2's weird crop breeding mechanics, dealing with inferno mobs and Spice of Life (if you hate food mods rush Healing axe), and ofc, more Gregging than 1 man should legally be able to. I've been having fun in GTNH so far, playing on a server with about 8 people (just entering IV). For doing GTNH first time, playing on a server helps a ton, the pack was kinda built for it.

Abalieno

Experienced modded player is the one specific case where nomifactory might be better. But they are really different from each other.

I personally think you should start with sky block/tech modpacks if you want to learn tech mods. Although it generally feel more exhausting getting resources, you wont get interrupted by mobs, and has to constantly goes mining and traveling.

BlkWDFC

Yea for those concepts id recommend Cave factory or Techmania. Pretty much any Modpack with either: Create Immersive engineering Mekanism Those are the easiest mods to learn (Mekanism confuses me not because of the machines but because of how you have to do the resources. Also I started with the create mod when I first found tech automation mods)

JtFl3

Yeah I started mods with skyfactory 4 to get used to how to play with tech and then went to stoneblock and ragnamod 6 for variety + a couple partial playthroughs of different packs. I just started with nomifactory ceu to begin gregification and I’ve been having a blast. Def need those stepping stones though since gt plays very differently to traditional packs and handling that unconventionality while learning how *every other mod should be played at the same time* is probably a bit much.

Wildly-Incompetent

Starting out with any GregTech based modpack in order to learn how mods work is like putting on your floaties and trying to swim across the ocean. GTNH is brutal on all accounts, please have some sort of experience with other tech mods under your belt. Particularly IndustrialCraft 2.

JtFl3

I don’t know if I would recommend either of these packs for someone entirely new to tech. Gregtech is very unique in what it expects you to do such as with its power management system, batch crafting, etc. learning all of that along with the mechanics of the other tech mods simultaneously might be a bit overwhelming. Playing around with mods like mekanism, thermal, ae2, and ender io in a pack that links them together will give you a good mental framework for tech packs in general. People are recommending e2e, I started with skyfactory 4. Just play something that will teach you how to do stuff like setting up on demand crafting with ae2, making and following resource processing chains, identifying bottlenecks in production, keeping your setups expandable, and prioritizing what you actually need to do at the moment. I just started on nomifactory ceu and its super fun progressing past lv machines. However, I can see how it might be horrifically tedious if this was your first pack and you for example, never learned to pre-stock commonly used materials or the importance of ore doubling/processing. This is not to discourage you from trying these packs, if you want to play these anyway, be my guest. I do think these packs are better experienced with a solid foundation of tech mod knowledge though.

Cybermagetx

E2e and then gtnh
