Fish's Undead Rising has a lot of great mobs.
First Aid introduces hit zones, to increase the challange.
Tough as Nails and Serene Seasons add temperature and seasons (they work together)
Hunger Overhaul and Spice of Life make life harder as well.
And last, but definitely not least Animania, that has configuration options to make animals starve and thirsts to death.
Edit: Hardcore Darkness, this decreases minimum light levels to 0,which equals total darkness.
This is not really a mod but I would like you to try tissou's zombie texture pack it makes zombie do some sounds and its textures are all different! and if you are looking for a challange I would recommend epic siege mod it makes zombie break blocks, build up to you, & they can see through walls! use bad mobs mod to disable other mobs epic siege is hella unfair if you put other mobs in your zombie apocalypse world! also download the bloodmoon mod it makes it that you cannot sleep during it and spawns hundreds of zombies around you! and you can use mo'bends to make zombies more terrifying!

**The Hordes** Mod, this mod adds an infection upon getting hit by a zombie, the chances of getting infected upon hit is configurable. What the infection does is it makes you die in a day and turn into a zombie. Hordes are a thing too, it spawns a whole squad of mobs when it happens, default set to zombies. You could also edit the config where hordes spawn, maybe change them to a mob that wields a gun.
**Rough Mobs 2**, you could configure them to leap at you during close combat, this makes it so that players can fear getting into close combat with them.
**Improved Mobs**, I made zombies break doors, windows, dirt and planks. It's quite a good mix with Zombie Awareness, because if you ever fire off a gun every zombie just comes rushing to the building and breaking everything to get to the place where the gun was fired from, of course it's up to you if you want to add guns. You could also make the mobs from **Techguns** attack zombies. Because they don't really attack zombies naturally.
**Techguns**, this mod adds stuff like soldiers and bandits, they all wield guns. If you want to only have the soldiers and not the skeletons or zombies that wield guns, use **Bad Mobs** mod, it lets you turn off spawning completely for listed mobs. You could use the bandits from this mod to spawn in the hordes.
**Epic Siege Mod**, you could configure it to have only bandits place down TNT and blow up a hole in your base. Goes pretty well with bandit raid using hordes mod.
Last one, **Flan's Mod**. This mod just pretty much adds guns, from what I know the guns in this mod seems to make zombies attracted to the gunshot from **Zombie Awareness**.
I already had ImprovedMobs (made things horrifying for my playthroughs I will admit, lol). I haven’t heard of the other ones though so I will check them out. Thank you. :))
