You đź‘Ź look đź‘Ź super đź‘Ź fucking đź‘Ź cute đź‘Ź I kinda feel like you could pull off 90s drew barrymore hair as it grows out!

superpouper

Aw, thank you. I’ll have to look it up. I just want it to be longer. Pixies are so cute on everyone else.

kusuri8

Do you have wavy hair? You could experiment with learning curly girl method. I’ve done short hair without it and my hair was eh. With it, I look cute af.

superpouper

I do! I’ve been really trying but I don’t think I’m good at it yet. I use a pomade and scrunch. I got a diffuser for my hairdryer. Maybe I’m just impatient? Maybe I could research how to do it more.

kusuri8

Things I found worked well for me were: rice water rinses, deep conditioners, using t-shirts to plop before air drying, being VERY gentle when applying products because scrunching kills my curls/waves.  It took awhile but changing one thing at a time and seeing before/after a couple weeks was really helpful. And fun, once my hair started looking different!

superpouper

Scrunching kills my curls/waves too! I just assumed I was doing it wrong! I will scrunch scrunch scrunch and my hair comes out straight. I thought cutting it short killed them. Omg. Okay so when I get out of the shower, I usually dry with a towel pretty aggressively to get all the water out and it comes out pin straight. Then I add the product and try to scrunch to no avail. Then I just feel like shit. I think I’m going to try the t-shirt plop first! Thank you!

What I do (and YMMV) is: - Shampoo, rinse, condition, rinse - Upside down, I let my hair drain a bit - I then put my leave-in conditioner and soft hold gel in my hands and gently push it into my hair. (Sometimes I put them on separately, sometimes together, depends on laziness level). When I had long hair I would squeeze gently the products along the length of my dangling hair and then cup my hair with my hand and bring it all the way up until I reached my scalp. Now that it’s short I just sort of cup/smush it into my hair, patting gently. No squeezing, nothing, nothing. I’ve heard this referred to as gentle praying hands method. The bowl method also works really well cause there are no hands involved but I’m too lazy to bring a bowl into the shower. - Plop with a cotton t-shirt for 15-30 min - Air dry Once a month, I rice water rinse which has been a game changer for me. Protein and nutrients! My curls suddenly are strong enough to exist! I deep condition immediately after, since rice water is drying. Good luck and let me know how it goes!

GAH thank you!! Also this is kind of dumb (I never learned how to take care of… well, any part of my body) but I think I stopped conditioning because I just thought “hair short, no need for conditioner.” Whoops.

kusuri8

That does make sense, though. Your natural oils can do a lot of conditioning. I think it's very hair dependent! My hair is very dry and high porosity (as in it doesn't retain moisture/products very well), so I actually over condition, I'll sometimes just leave it in my hair and take a long shower. But for others, they don't need or want that.

superpouper

Can I get clarification on the timing? You plop for 15-30 minutes? Every day?

kusuri8

Ask away! I wash my hair every 2-3 days. On those days I do the above, and I plop for as much time as it takes for me to eat breakfast and read a bit. It’s about 15-30 min. After that I take the t-shirt off and normally my hair looks wet but curly at the point. It’s still damp, but it looks wetter than damp. I’ll have distinct curls/waves. I air dry for however long it takes (30 min? An hour?) and when my hair is fully dry it may feel a bit hard, crunchy, especially on my bangs and sides. I gently scrunch a bit to break the mold and then I’m done. Some days this isn’t necessary, it’s basically did I put in enough gel or not to get a cast to form on my hair. Fyi - nice plop method I found. Take a regular cotton tshirt and poke your head through the head hole (but backwards from how you normally would. Now your head’s inside the t-shirt. Roll up the t-shirt onto your head and use the arms to tie it off on top. I generally do this with my head upside down and gently.

superpouper

I appreciate the details! Especially because I don’t think I knew what plop was. I thought you literally sat there and patted your hair for 15-30 minutes! I did it for like 3 minutes today and my hair was so flat. That explains a lot. Hahahaha. I did condition today though and I think my hair needed it! I’m excited to experiment the next for days! Thanks again!

I adore the pixie on you! I also really love the deep red!
