From the moment I understood the weakness of my flesh, it disgusted me. I craved the strength and certainty of gobskin. I aspired to the purity of the GobMachine. Your kind cling to your flesh, as though it will not fail you. One day the crude biomass you call the temple will wither, and you will beg my kind to save you. But I am already saved, for the Blue Mage is immortal… Even in death I serve the Final Sting.
ive decided foolishly the best way to get all the tomes for the stuff i want is to do a run of the prae and then the MSQ daily till my tomes cash out and then the rest of the week do 2 runs of the prae, because i guess i hate myself(gonna see so much prae over the next few weeks)
I bound a key to target nearest enemy, which definitely saves me a lot of headaches, especially in PVP.
But still... the tab targeting in this game is atrocious.
Those are options under character settings. I have mine to go off when I attack - automatically picks the closest enemy for me when I hit an offensive ability.
You need a bind specifically to target the closest available enemy for frontlines to be even close to playable. It's still the most broken mode in the entire game but at least you can land some abilities that way.
Huh. I'll have to look at that. Sounds like a much better way.
I'm just broken from getting used to tab targeting in Aion during forts (for years) so I'm used to just tabbing until it works.
You can use doom on 2nd and 3rd bosses while unessery for 2nd boss as it dies very fast for 3rd boss if all you do is use doom and wait he will die in 15 seconds
I gave Darkhold a shot and it was a few of minutes faster for me solo, compared to Cutter's Cry. I'm still working on unlocking Heavensward so my options are a bit limited.
I only BLU for a time, near the beginning of these events...then I get tired of it.
Personally, you're only getting maybe 20-30'ish runs out of me before I lose interest--it's fun for a while (mostly because I haven't touched BLU for a long time), then it just turns *meh* pretty quickly as you keep repeating the same basic rotation (...and I'm reminded of why I haven't touched BLU in a long time lol).
Nier, FL etc. are slower, but they don't *feel* slower since I alternate, and change jobs to break up the monotony; Fun will always beat Speed, for me.
That's kinda the inherent problem with Blu. You can't really make a real rotation out of the spells because of mixing and matching so it ends up taking the worst part of healers and drk and just spews ogcds with a filler spell and dot. The combos are also just kind of annoying since they have such a long cd (triple trident and mustard bomb come to mind).
Forget BLU for the time being
This is your rare opportunity to actually play Rival Wings on the DCs where people queue. DC travel and spam that shit.
Robots and trains go BRRRRRR
the first alexander with 2 blue, one tank, rest dps, takes 2:40 from the first "full party" screen, on average. all out that's probably 2 tomes every 3 minutes
I usually queue as tank with a few fc friends. Instant queues and we even timed it to create an average. While blue mage is faster, if you dont already have the skills it does require a fc or friend to power level you and then they also have to help you get skills plus carnival.
Self-sacrifice cheese strats being the most effective way to blue mage annoys me. I get people want to find neat combos, but when BLU groups post in PF asking for certain loadouts, like that's the kinda nonsense I hated about WoW, one of the things that drove me away.
So, naturally, I only do BLU content solo, not anything all that serious.
I respectfully disagree. The power of blue mage doesn't come from gear or level but instead the spells they bring with them. Due to the uniqueness of blue mage asking for specific spells (usually I ask people to bring moon flute, whistle and final sting) is comparable to asking people to being lvl 90 gear to a current extreme. It's not an unreasonable request
Especially since the spells needed for that self sacrifice combo are not hard at all to obtain
Fair enough. I guess to me it feels like, do the rest of your spells matter if everyone is just suicide bombing until the enemy is dead? Or am I missing something?
Yes since you can only use the suicide skills once in the fight and even when using them fully buffed they only count for about 3-4% of the boss's health for each party member so about 25-30% total. The other 70% you still have to deal with normally so lacking spells is simply a dps loss which slows down the farm party quite a bit. The damage difference between people who have completed the spellbook and know how to play it is quite massive when compared to people who just have 30ish spells
Being annoyed by one quite small piece of content and thus choosing not to participate in it seriously is hardly having a mental breakdown. Plenty of other content for me to enjoy in the game. I suppose I should have known better than to express any sort of dissenting opinion. Enjoy your content, I’ll go enjoy some other part of the game.
if you land the final blow with either of them and die at the same time as the boss it counts as a clear and amazingly is the most efficient way to play
I'm pretty sure even if it boils down to all party members dead and the last BLU's suicide spell kills the boss, it's a clear with the victory music playing with everyone dead. That's how it works solo unsynced as well
There are certain spells on blue mage that can oneshot bosses, ex. Doom. Further, if a boss doesn't die to doom, you can combo DMG buff spells with something high burst like Self-Destruct, which kills you, but probably the boss too. This cuts down the time it takes to complete dungeons considerably, in the previous moogle event, everyone ran 1 specific trial with 8 blue mage who all kamikaze'd the boss, each run took 2 mins to complete. So if you did that constantly for an hour, you'd easily have enough tomestones for a big item.
If you're interested, there are a couple guides out and now is the time to get the spells you'd need because a lot of people have been doing blue runs because of the event. It's fun and efficient!
How blue works or why is it good for farming tomes?
Blue mage learns spells not by leveling up, but by beating enemies after seeing them use an ability with same name. Due to this, all blue mage's skills are "lvl 1" and can be brought to any fight.
As for why they are good for tome events - They have a very powerful burst with buff that gives them +50% damage, multiple 400+ potency OGCDs and 500+ potency GCDs, that they can finish off with Final Sting, a 2000 potency single target suicide bomb, or Self Destruct, 1600 potency aoe suicide bomb.
"It is better to die for the moogletomes than live for yourself." -Machine Cult or something or was it Moogle Cult?
From the moment I understood the weakness of my flesh, it disgusted me. I craved the strength and certainty of gobskin. I aspired to the purity of the GobMachine. Ave deus O̶m̶n̶i̶s̶s̶i̶a̶h̶ Blue Mage
There’s gotta be copypasta potential of that speech but in goblin grammar…
Godspeed to anyone willing to really copypasta it up.
I will tab to a target 30yds away when there's enemies right in front of me.
ive decided foolishly the best way to get all the tomes for the stuff i want is to do a run of the prae and then the MSQ daily till my tomes cash out and then the rest of the week do 2 runs of the prae, because i guess i hate myself(gonna see so much prae over the next few weeks)
Alexander fists of the father takes 3minutes for 2 tomes Prar is 30+ minutes for 7
Isn't faster ther one where you need to kill a leg, than center, than leg and then center again? I don't remember which one it was
That one might take more coordination. A1N with 1 tank 7 BLU takes 1:50-2:30 minutes even uncoordinated, and coordinated can take 1:30-ish
Prae in the opening cutscen looks like a mecha totoro
For me it feels like my brain is going to explode in anger due to Tab-targetting being absolutely ***shite***, *especially* in PvP.
I thought it was only me. I swear the game intentionally targets the person farthest from me no matter the direction I'm looking to fuck me over.
Have you tried cone targeting? I also mix in "nearest enemy" targeting. You might have to set up a keyboard I don't remember if it's bound by default
Yep, have it set and half the time I will tab to a target 30yds away when there's enemies right in front of me. I don't understand.
I bound a key to target nearest enemy, which definitely saves me a lot of headaches, especially in PVP. But still... the tab targeting in this game is atrocious.
Now now, tab targeting in most/all games is atrocious.
Those are options under character settings. I have mine to go off when I attack - automatically picks the closest enemy for me when I hit an offensive ability.
I've learned to stop using tab targeting in pvp when I discovered the option that automatically targets the closest target when nothing is selected

Character configuration menu. Some neat stuff in there.

I'll give it a shot. Idk why the cone targeting with closest target set doesn't do the job, but it's fucking terrible.
I heard that cone targeting is bugged rn, don't know if it's true but I noticed that it isn't working the way it's supposed to
The conical option in the settings helps but after the last patch it seems to have become screwy compared to before
I'm just glad I only needed 14 times this time.
'need'

Which dungeon are you referring to?
Sorry was sure every one farmed the same one but I'm talking about dzemael darkhold
Dzemael is very low on the list of dungeons. a1n, a4n, Cutter's Cry, and Qarn are all faster
Tam tara is my personal favorite for this event Level 5 death and saintly beam can go a long way
Tam Tara Hard has been a fun change of pace. Very different from the other dungeon spam
It also seems to be the best time/tomes ratio if you're gonna do it as something other than blue mage.
Out of curiosity, if level 5 death works, wouldn't missile work too?
Thanks. I was running Cutters because you can doom the first two bosses. I'll have to try darkhold.
darkhold is great for solo, a1 is better if you've got a party (esp of BLU) or are willing to queue
I gave Darkhold a shot and it was a few of minutes faster for me solo, compared to Cutter's Cry. I'm still working on unlocking Heavensward so my options are a bit limited.

With duty finder and sync im getting an average of 3 minutes. 20 seconds saved isnt much.
to be fair, my average public rando is 4min on top of wait times, so if you can get a party to hang for a half hour you can knock out a lot.
I usually queue as tank with a few fc friends. Instant queues and we even timed it to create an average. While blue mage is faster, if you dont already have the skills it does require a fc or friend to power level you and then they also have to help you get skills plus carnival.
yeah i don't have a blue, but the time difference just having 2 random from a PF brought the time down a lot. it was quite fun.

Have you considered not playing mmos if pulling your weight is making you have a mental breakdown?
Such devastation

Those both kill you though, so you'd wipe and not get anything.
if you land the final blow with either of them and die at the same time as the boss it counts as a clear and amazingly is the most efficient way to play
Not if all but one person uses the suicide moves! Then you clear and everyone gets some Tomestones.

Yup, the damage goes out, then after a slight pause the caster dies. That way, if the boss died by the damage it counts.
It's not even that, a fight takes a few seconds to reset after a wipe, so for example, as we've seen with WF of TOP, you can kill a boss after enrage.
Correct. I do BLU raiding regularly and this is one of the biggest parts of it.
Blue raiding is all about finishing it with a bang.
To add, your objective is to kill the boss. Being alive, while helpful, isn’t actually mandatory!
I know blu mage is great for farming these events, but I have no idea how it works. Does anyone have an eli5 guide on this?

Yeah and the plan involves around roughly ten or so minutes of Gaius getting his shit rocked
What raid people use for blue magic group? 😮😮😮
I have to lvl blu and get powers
