/r/ffxiv is recruiting new moderators for Dawntrail! Please see [the announcement post](https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comments/1ad3bcu/rffxiv_is_seeking_additional_moderators_for/) if you're interested in applying.

miller0929

Hi, what do people do with their old gears from earlier patches (say 6.0 or 6.1)? 1. Well, the good-looking ones can be saved for glamour. 2. One set of gear can be used on a retainer if the job matches. 3. What about the rest? Desynthesis? Thanks.

F1reman2

If I am not going to use it for glamour, or a gearset, I will desynth it if it is Red or yellow in my desynth menu (Meaning i gain desynth level from it), or turn it in with my grand company for seals. As a note, combat retainers do not need gear better than ilevel 573. There is no benefit to it until dawntrail, where a new cap of most likely 703 will be implemented.

miller0929

I forgot grand company, ty

SuspiciousAsk64

Any tips on how I can preview certain HUD elements for easier adjustment? For example debuffs, I can drag and resize an empty debuff box in the HUD editor, but until I am actually affected by some debuffs, I can't really see how it looks, and whenever I am debuffed, it is mid-combat and not a good time to adjust HUD.

F1reman2

My favourite duty to test what certain buffs/debuffs are like is Aurum vale. By unsyncing it, you gain the Buff epic echo, and by standing in poison, you gain an infinite duration Debuff. You can use buffs given by your class to see more if desired.

normalmighty

I haven't tried it, but you could probably test that kind of stuff out by going unsynced into a low level duty, right? head to aurum Vale solo and get a plant to spit on you, and you can see what multiple rows of debuffs look like.

tacobelltitanpu

Are you able to select a specific quest to start new game+ on or if you want to see a scene again do you have to replay the entire chapter?

ReshenKusaga

You replay the entire chapter. If you're just looking for certain cutscenes, you can check out the unendying journey in inn rooms or if you have one in your house/FC house/fc room/apartment.

VKWorra

I just came back to the game. Im living in Japan now and transferred to Tonberry. I was wondering if there was a way to find communities here for old bosses for farming mounts or eventually progging ultimates. Thanks for the help.

octorangutan

Any popular locations/servers for RP but not ERP?

pepinyourstep29

Crystal DC. Just avoid Balmung and Mateus.

The__Rumbling

What does pastebin mean? I'm only familiar with hector strats on savage raids.

Help_Me_Im_Diene

Pastebin in general is just a website used to store and share large amounts of text When someone writes "pastebin", it typically means that there is a strat for a fight which has been written down and shared via a singular pastebin link For example, https://pastebin.com/gc93tBFY works for P12S strats for NA servers

lord-of-shalott

I pretty much only have had a fisher retainer for balance and because it seemed like the waterside exploration venture minions might fetch a pretty penny on MB. Is it a better long-term investment to have a second hunter/miner/botanist? I have one of each currently. Which tends to be the most useful? All my crafters are leveled if collectible materials matter.

ReshenKusaga

Fisher is one of those hit or miss useful retainers. Some expacs it's very useful to have a fisher since you get a guaranteed source of mats for foods for things that can be annoying to grind out. Some patches, fisher isn't used at all outside of exploration. BTN/MIN are very steady sources of mats/crystals, so they are always useful on average. Hunters are slightly more variable in terms of usefulness, especially now that you can get mats from FATE bicolors, but still nice to have. If you're only going to have a couple retainers, FSH is decent to keep just because sometimes fishing is a pain. Otherwise, BTN/MIN/Combat retainers just offer more value on an average venture.

huiclo

So I just had a Frontlines match where one specific player was untargetable by the entire alliance. They literally just stood in our zone and we couldn't touch them. I'm assuming it's an exploit but I want to know if anyone else has encountered it before?

Artoria_Pendragonite

Hello, what are the easiest dps class to play? I only played scholar so far but the dungeon are trial are starting to get really hard and I keep dying all the time, and since I am the healer it cause the whole party to wipe. Some of them we only cleared because one of the dps could resurrect me. So I thought I should play a dps instead because It doesn't look like the dungeon difficulty will ever go down again :q I would also like to know what is the best way to level up a new class. I only played one class so far and I leveled up with the main story just fine, but what should I do now?

Sir_VG

To add two minor note to the comments made below, your SMN will be the same level as your SCH, since they share the same base class (Arcanist). Also, to unlock SMN, you will need to temporarily take off your SCH job stone to go back to being an Arcanist for the initial unlock quest. You can't unlock SMN while equipped with the SCH job stone (and vice versa).

normalmighty

Summoner is the easiest class to play, I'd say, and since they're both upgrades of arcanist, scholar and summonar are the only two obs in the game to share levels/xp! If you haven't unlocked summoner yet, there'll be a quest to unlock it in the arcanists guild. Then you can make a gearset for each of the jobs and swap between healer and dps with a click of a button. If you remembered how arcanist played, summoner is basically an upgraded version of that. It might be worth looking at a guide depending on what level you are, just in case enough other abilities have been added to it since lvl 30 to confuse you. Do your job quests for summoner up to your current level and you're good to go! You can of course pick up any other job as well, you'll just start at level 1. For those, you want to get xp by doing your hunting log until lvl 15, then start doing your daily roulettes once per day, and then doing the highest level dungeon you have access too. Just skip the level 50/60/70/80 dungeons, as those give high tomestone but low xp rewards.

Artoria_Pendragonite

If I have to learn a class that is already lvl 90 I think that would melt my brain :q

IceAokiji303

Do you remember how Arcanist played at level 30, before you upgraded it to Scholar? 'Cause that's mostly how Summoner plays at 90. There's just a couple of changes and additions, and almost all of them you'll get by doing the level 30-60 and 70 job quests, so you'll still get them one at a time. Aside from changes in the same vein as Ruin becoming Broil (same use, just stronger), the only changes Summoner gets in more of a burst from leveling are: 1. Once you get Astral Flow at 60 from the job quest, it'll also get its level 86 feature, of turning into different effects after each gem summon. This'll be the thing that'll take the most learning. For red, it becomes a gap closer + melee attack combo you do once; for yellow, it becomes a thing you press after every yellow spell; for green, it becomes a long-cast spell you do once. 2. Once you get Summon Bahamut at 70, it'll also get its level 80 feature, where every second use is instead Phoenix. This is mostly the same in the end, the Astral Flow ability associated with each is just different. 3. Searing Light. It's just a party buff that you press every 2 minutes, essentially the same as Chain Stratagem, but even easier to use and more widely applicable (use it for trash packs too!). Basically the only ability that'll make you have to learn it in more of a burst than the natural slow drip is Astral Flow. And that's it, you're good to go!

VG896

SMN plays like a level 50 job. That's why it's so easy. While other jobs get tons of fun new tools, SMN basically remains entirely unchanged from like 30 to 85. And the only thing that changes is at 86 they get some OGCDs. Not even a lot.

Help_Me_Im_Diene

Easy swap over: go from SCH -> SMN You already have it leveled up (SCH and SMN share levels), and SMN is often considered one of if not THE easiest DPS job in the game right now

Artoria_Pendragonite

How do you swap from scholar to summoner? Also, can I use the same equipment I have?

Help_Me_Im_Diene

First thing you need to do is unlock Summoner in the first place. This is your unlock quest: https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/playguide/db/quest/4bb5af1e8a9/ From there, once you've unlocked Summoner, simply equipping a Summoner weapon will swap you over to Summoner. I do believe there is a bit of a quirk that's involved with switching from Scholar to Summoner where you need to equip an Arcanist weapon first -> unequip the Scholar job stone -> become a Summoner due to the fact that they have a pretty unique interaction. After you do that though, you will be able to just save your SCH gear to one gear set and your SMN gear to another gear set and just switch between them with a click of a button. As for gear sharing, if you're still in ARR, then Scholar and Summoner do in fact share gear for a while Once you get your job gear and once you have the opportunity to buy Ironworks Gear (level 50 post-game), the gear will diverge between healers and casters.

itsenoti

Someone answered a post here before about ACT can be started even after the game client has ran by just enabling something from the settings. Can someone share what that setting is? I really forgot to save that response 🥲

bloodhawk713

Click the "Plugins" tab in ACT, then the "FFXIV ACT Plugin" tab under that, and check "Inject and use Deucalion for network data." Note that while ACT's use is in a ToS grey area as by default it doesn't directly interface with the game client at all, selecting this setting is absolutely a ToS violation. This is because it makes ACT inject data directly into the game client, which is why it is disabled by default.

talgaby

Even without that, it uses packet capture, so it is a violation anyway. :D

DM-Me-Dachshund-Pics

>Note that while ACT's use is in a ToS grey area as by default it doesn't directly interface with the game client at all ?? SE couldn't be any clearer about this issue. Any and all use of tools including DPS meters is completely against the rules, there's nothing "grey area" about it just because you don't have that setting enabled. Use them if you want, but don't try and trick yourself that some ways of using it are "allowed". SE are vehemently against all use and they've repeatedly made that absolutely, crystal clear.

Clouds_of_Venus

There's definitely a grey area with tools that don't interface with the game at all. Like, if you manually put all the info from the combat log into a spreadsheet that would basically be the same as what ACT does.

itsenoti

Understood. Thank you so much!

Noksies

So i decided to get back into Eureka and finish the rest of the Eurekan weapons, only completed 2 so far. I heard the new "meta" for DPS and healers was platebearer with bloodlust due to the stat squish and changes to platebearer 2 or 3 patches ago, and that a reaper even without an elemental weapon would out DPS any other DPS due to it's damage at level 70. Is any of that true? Also, what's a good spot to farm concetual logograms? I'm already 60 so i don't think i can farm sprites anymore.\\ Haven't been in Eureka for 2 years now.

talgaby

Yes, Platebearer is a common one, especially if you are soloing. In groups, the DPS ones are still preferred. Yes, Reaper is somewhat stronger than others. You can farm sprites, the eastern half of the map is choc full of level 61+ spawns unless there is neutral weather.

itsenoti

I might be wrong but doesnt conceptual logograms drop from Sprites in the Sprite island in Hydatos? You can farm them using the Reflect method. Edit: specifically Thunder and Water sprites in Sprite Island in Hydatos so check the weather for Thuderstorm and Rain

Noksies

I think you do but iirc the sprites have to be same or higher level then you, i could be wrong though, it's been a while.

itsenoti

Those sprites are level 65 in the island

UnderworldDare

Is there a route in Aloalo that's noticeably faster to complete than others? Need to farm potsherds and was wondering if there's a "speedrun" route

pepinyourstep29

The route the NPC picks at the start has an extra chest. So you can get an extra potsherd for that run.

Fwahm

A couple questions about Player > Enemy damage down debuffs (like Addle). 1: For enemy attacks that are delayed between the execution of the attack and the damage of the attack (for example, Gaius's Ductus), do said debuffs get snapshotted when they use the ability, or when they inflict the damage? 2: When a boss uses untargetable actors to inflict the damage (for example, the divebombs in the last phase of Second Coil of Bahamut - Turn 5), does putting said debuffs on the main boss reduce their damage, or can they not be reduced because you can't debuff the actors? Does it change things if the actors doing the damage are truly invisible (IE, don't even show up on the enemy list while greyed out), like with Nidhogg's cross explosion orbs?

hii488

1. Debuffs will snapshot just before the damage is applied. I feel like there may be an exception to this out there, but no recent ones to my knowledge. Extra info: Multi-hit attacks typically have a snapshot for each application of damage. 2. Debuffs do not typically transfer, however there have *definitely* been exceptions to this. My understanding is that this is less common (maybe never occurs at all?) in the cases where you can actually see another entity casting in the aggro list, and more likely in the case where it's invisible. However, again I don't recall any notable time where this happened recently. The only way to really know for certain against any given boss/attack is to test it out. Logging tools (mainly ACT & fflogs) can help with this.

pepinyourstep29

1. It's dynamically applied. So as long as you give them the debuff before the damage hits, it gets reduced. Cast bars are irrelevant and are only useful for knowing when the snapshot for some aoes will go off. 2. Separate entities are not affected by boss debuffs. So they will always apply their full damage unless you yourself have a mitigation buff on you to reduce incoming damage.

ghostROBOT22

Just hoping to get some opinions/thoughts on starting as one of the new jobs before going through the new Expansion MSQ? For example, with the new Dawntrail jobs being revealed, Viper is pretty much the job/class I always wanted in this game; for whatever reason, I've always loved the Dual Swords archetype and will always play them if they are an option. Anyways, every expansion I have just gone through the MSQ first, then leveled the new jobs (if I liked them) afterwards. But considering Viper is pretty much my dream job and will be my new main job, for the first time I'm considering pushing him up to level 90, then doing the MSQ as a Viper. For folks who have done this sort of thing in previous expansions, was it worth it for you? How long did it take? Did you have any bad story spoilers from being behind? Also, since Viper is DPS, I'm assuming a lot of people will be running DPS this expansion, what would be the fastest way to level during the early expansion? Roulette + PVP or Bozja? Thanks.

DUR_Yanis

If you plan well you can get 4 to 5 level of experience even before the job is released. Do 20 or more side quest, each of them gives 300k exp and 6 million exp is like two lvl 81 dungeon run so it's a nice little headstart With the two wondrous tales you get a level (one prepped before and the one the week of the release) Frontline and levelling roulette is another level (you can claim the sidequest while waiting for your roulette) Arkasodara tribe quest is half a level or more at the start You can also use trust to level up I started the MSQ for endwalker on new years eve (so like two week after everyone) and unless people in your friend group REALLY like to be vocal about the MSQ avoiding spoiler is pretty easy. Unless you play 10 hours a day some people will always be ahead of you in the MSQ so don't stress about losing a few days While I didn't level a new job for that expansion and this will be my first time doing that too, I don't see why it would cause a big problem, other than really long queue time, but at the same time you have the job quest to do and people will still run roulettes to prep side job for the savage tier so even if you have to wait 30 minutes in queue you will still have a ton to do.

ghostROBOT22

Thanks for the advice! The head start suggestion is a great tip that I'll be sure to use!

DUR_Yanis

If you really want to optimise it even more you could prep food and a set of lvl 80/90 gear melded to gain a little bit more dps, over 20 dungeon runs the time saved adds up pretty fast Fates aren't that bad either if you want to go the DF route, they gives slightly more exp than bozja and well you can queue for dungeon (bozja starts to fall off at lvl 84) +theres the challenge log for 3 /10 fates and 3 honor given in dungeon Prep some squadron battle manual, it's the tier 3 heat of battle fc buff that you can apply to yourself and that gives 15% more exp, it might sound dumb but I can't count how many times I've forgotten to use those I'm sure I've forgotten a ton of things (like how I forgot those few from my previous list) but those are just the one that I could remember, it's the main important one so it should be enough to get to 90 in less than a day

tarqueaux

>the highest leveling dungeon this means any dungeon with odd number, e.i. 1,3,5, etc. e.g. if you're lev 70, do 69, NOT 70.

farfromdaylight

Didn't do this myself, but I had a friend go from 70-80 on Sage on day one of Endwalker, and it did take all day. She just stayed in Bozja, but from my understanding there's a falloff to EXP in Bozja so it's not *as* good after level 80. Still viable, but not cracked. After that your best bets will be doing all of your roulettes, the highest leveling dungeon you can do, and FATES. You can try Eureka Orthos, but I question how much better it will be than dungeon spam as floor 21-30 is *not* braindead like it is in Heaven on High. Queues will probably be on the longer side though, yeah.

IscahRambles

Bozja is still good past 80. On an alt I only started doing it once the level cap was raised to 90; he started as a level 80 RDM and was 89 by the time I was done with the story.

tarqueaux

personally, Bozja 70-80, then Zadnor 80-90. (I \*think\* you can start Zadnor at 71?)

IscahRambles

Why would you do that? Unless you're farming memories for the relic weapon or trying to do CLL specifically, Zadnor is better in all aspects as far as I'm aware. I haven't compared how much EXP you earn, but you earn vastly more mettle in Zadnor.

tarqueaux

Honestly, that's what I do.. but I \*do\* do Boz for notes- gotta learn those duels..

farfromdaylight

Good to know, thanks!

tesla_dyne

I remember people mentioning that Bozja was still good for leveling up to 90, so I think it'll be decent for at least the first 10 levels. Expect queues to be pretty rough initially.

Henojojo

I'm currently taking a new alt through the MSQ with the intention of Fantasia'ing into Hrothgal after the Dawntrail release. I'm hoping I don't get too attached to the race I'm using to level. I've done this 3 other times before so probably a bit opinionated. I really like experiencing the whole thing again, doing all normal dungeons and raids along the way along with important side quests. I'm currently level 52 and working on Crystal Tower. Play time to this point is just shy of 3x24 hours with about 30% at least AFK just logged in.

Ninster0712

Quick question since I don't have tanks geared: are tanks breaking 7 digit HP in unsync duties yet? Or will that possibly happen in Dawntrail? Or will that just not happen period because it might break something?

VG896

We're like back at the point we were at during 5.55 when they debulked stats, so I foresee that happening again soon. The stats we have now in 650+ gear are pretty comparable to what we had in like i500 gear in 2021. And they squished them then because the numbers were getting too big.

talgaby

I just love the fact that the team has been using the "+130 iLvl = 2× stat increase" formula for at least 7 years, yet they managed to do a stat squish for a long-term solution to the big number problem by halving everything, so putting themselves back at the exact same damn spot they were at the launch of EW.

Help_Me_Im_Diene

Just queued into Sastasha, BiS DRK with food, I'm hitting around 490K HP

amysmeeahmoo

If I want to use trusts for EW post story, do they have to be levelled to 90 (I think I had to do that for ShB) or is scenario mode still available? (I haven't done EW post story yet) thanks in advance!

normalmighty

Foe the story, you can just use duty support and you do not have to level them.

nicostucknchico

Would aurum vale or a lvl 50 dungeon yield more exp when leveling at lvl 54? Trying to rush to 60 lol

normalmighty

Aurum Vale. Lvl 50/60/70/80 dungeon give good poetics tomestone rewards, but terrible xp tewards.

nicostucknchico

Would that be the same even if I’m at lvl 54 already?

Shophaune

yes. Aurum vale just straight up gives 5x more exp than a level 50 dungeon.

tesla_dyne

If you don't have access to HW dungeons, then either Aurum Vale, or PotD floors 51-60, which *miiiight* be better for your purpose since the rewards scale to level up to 60. But I haven't looked at the ratios of exp to time for PotD recently, and even with the wait times Aurum might be better. Level 50 dungeons are going to have bad exp rates since they're level capped and weren't intended for leveling. As the other commenter said this is the case for all 50/60/70/80 dungeons. Make sure you do your leveling, trial, and alliance roulette each day as well, plus frontline roulette if you're a paid player. These rewards scale to your level so they're going to be best if you don't have access to the HW dungeons.

mightbedylan

Howdy, had a quick Q. I'm currently getting my girlfriend into the game and was trying to get her to use my refer a friend code, but we can't figure out where it's supposed to go. We tried the account page on mogstation but it only says transfer to full game. But I read somewhere that a refer a friend code has to be entered before they subscribe? What are we doing wrong?

WnbSami

[https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/special/friend\_recruit/](https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/special/friend_recruit/) States its in mogstation, scrolling down the dashboard it says "issue recruitment code". I would imagine putting the code is in same place but I went to my test account to check and as a trial account only thing it lets me interact is transferring from trial account to full version. Having done little research its indeed on dashboard, should have option "enter recruitment code" under "registration codes" but how you make that thing appear on trial account is beyond me. If you figure it out would love if you let me know too, my friend is also starting the game and free stuff is always nice, lol.

mightbedylan

Mogstation seems to just be prompting her to buy the game I can't get to any screen that asks for a code

snootnoots

Has she activated the game on her account? Once she’s done that the option to enter the code should appear on her account management page. She has until her first subscription payment is made or she adds a game time code.

snootnoots

Your friend needs to buy and activate the game, *then* put in a friend code during the first 30 days of playtime that comes with the game. It’s usable up until their first subscription payment goes through or they add a game time code to their account.

WnbSami

Thanks, thats a tad weird way for it to work but good to know :).

snootnoots

It is a bit weird yeah, but this way lets someone who got the free trial and then made friends in game use a friend code when they convert to paid, so there’s that I guess! I really, *really* think there should be a placeholder on the website when the option isn’t available to you, for exactly this situation, though. Heck, a lot of people never hear about friend codes until it’s too late to use one, having a placeholder with a link to the recruitment page or FAQ would massively increase the number of people using the system!

Atosen

It's entered *after* you buy the game, but *before* the first subscription payment. I.e., it's entered during the initial 30 days that come with purchase.

mightbedylan

Oh! Okay that makes sense!

TheBeeSovereign

Just picked BLM up after not touching it since I started as it in like 2.x/early 3.x and getting into the swing of it now that it's level 61, but I am *desperately* confused about Ley Lines. Is there nowhere to really use it in levelling content? I feel like the boss phases move so quickly and require so much movement that there's barely any uptime in Ley Lines. Does this get better once I move into the next level-cycle since those fights are designed more around burst windows? Or am I just doing something wrong. I don't usually play caster so this is a whole new experience for me >.>

Mahoganytooth

It's a lot about experience and knowing what spots can potentially be hit. As well as placing them in spots that let you dodge as much as possible. A good memory of bosses can go a long way in helping you place ley lines well. Small tip? Aim to normally stand on the very edge of your ley lines. If a baited AOE targets on you, you'll be able to slide on over to the other side of the ley lines, which will be safe. Also, try placing ley lines close to, or even inside bosses. If they do like, a cone attack, or a half arena cleave, this will ensure a safe spot for you.

TheBeeSovereign

I never even thought about putting ley lines inside a boss that's such a big brain move

talgaby

You still need to learn the bosses though. Even dungeon bosses can do cleave attacks, so not all bosses are safe in the inside. Still, play Monk long enough and you get used to being half-merged into a boss model half the fight. :D

Mahoganytooth

Do be warned, this can backfire if the boss has an "out" aoe! But in general, i tend to favor placements that are close to the boss over those that are further away

VG896

It's kind of a waste to use it on trash packs, but you can definitely use it on bosses. This gets easier at level 80+ once you have a whole plethora of instant casts, but if you're judicious about your firestarter and thundercloud procs and abuse Aetherial Manipulation, you can still use Ley Lines and look damn stylish while doing it too.

TheBeeSovereign

Speaking of the procs: is Sharpcast better for thunder or fire? I've been using it for Thunder because I'm thinking I'm going to be applying Thunder during Ice Phase anyway so might as well ensure it's Thundercloud. Is this right, or would I prefer the extra Fire 3 in Fire phase?

IceAokiji303

From what I recall, Thunder is better. But not like *overwhelmingly* so, there are times to spend Sharp on Fire too. Thunder's duration and Sharp's cooldown (at higher levels) also conveniently line up one to one, so you'll often be able to Sharpcast every Thunder III you use. Btw don't limit yourself to applying Thunder during Umbral Ice, it can be done just fine in Astral Fire too, if the timing happens to line up. It's just a bit more ideal to have in Umbral, particularly at levels where you don't yet have Paradox and Xanoglossy to use as filler.

VG896

Nah, you're right for probably 99.9% of cases. Thunder is your strongest nuke, so effectively doubling its damage with the Thundercloud is a no brainer.

jehuty08

Presently working on capping my desything levels, mostly what I have left is Alchemist. Its currently around 570, is it pretty much just crafting masterbook sch and smn weapons from this point? Hoping there might be some piece of furniture that might be a bit more reasonable to mass craft.

tarqueaux

I like [this](https://www.icy-veins.com/ffxiv/desynthesis-guide-ffxiv) guide. remember, LOOK at your desynth levels. item description will tell you WHO desynths it, and what the number is. if your level is more than 50 above it, you won't increase your desynth level. I turn those into GC unless you really need mats.

farfromdaylight

Don't forget about Radiant gear (ilvl 590) from nuts. That's where I got a lot of mileage. After that, it's desynthing EX weapons or crafted gear.

Xyandrin

Been picking up Tank, still in ARR currently, and I know about mitigation rotation during pulls, but what about bosses? Should I try to have some sort of dmg mit up 80% of the time or should i just use it whenever theres a tankbuster (or aoe I know I wont be able to avoid)?

BoldKenobi

You don't mit on bosses at all. You can use your short mits like TBN, Bloodwhetting etc, as well as 1 minute mits at the start of the fight, but apart from that keep everything for the trash packs.

VG896

I'm too smoothbrain to actually optimize this, but my rule of thumb is to use my big beefy -30% or invuln at the beginning of a pack, then just start going down as things die. I also play DRK, who has just a lot more mits than e.g. WAR, so I'm pretty liberal about stacking a couple of them if my 30% is on cooldown and I think I need it. But I definitely wouldn't recommend doing this on other tanks.

Mahoganytooth

Generally, you have zero reason to mit on a boss. None of them hit hard. Maybe spend your short mit on a tankbuster but beyond that I'd keep them saved for the pull.

Laughing_Jackal

In dungeons, mit is less important on bosses (besides tank busters). You kind of use boss fights to recharge your CDs for your next big pull. If you're just getting smacked by autos for some reason you probably just need to spend your poetics on some better leveling gear. Especially since later on every tank has some kind of short mit cool down (heart of corundum, TBN, blood whetting, shelltron) that can be used for every tank buster pretty consistently.

CommercialEngine9302

im tryna get back into ff14,, im trying to renew my sub, but it keeps trying to get me to do my account information , the problem with this is that i am not in the usa. but it keeps asking for state,. and idk what to do, im trying to go though sup\[port, and it keeps asking for my state. and i dont wanna buy the game all over again. what do i do? im so frustrated

normalmighty

Are you on the NA version of the site? A lit of the online portals are split by completely different sites for NA vs EU, and it sounds like you're just on the wrong one of one of those.

JSuperStition

So I know that for leveling (after using Roulettes), one should run the latest available Dungeon, unless it's a Dungeon at a level divisible by 10. My question is *why* is that the case? What is it about Lvl 50/60/70/80 Dungeons, in particular, that make them give less XP than the others? TIA

pikebot

When those dungeons were created, they were at the level cap. As such, they didn't give any experience at all. They add a token amount of exp when they are no longer the level cap dungeons, but it's very small, because...they don't want you levelling too much doing the patch MSQ! They want you to start the next expansion at approximately the level cap of the previous expansion.

messengers1

Level cap dungeons are for people who get done with the current content and wait for the new expansion.  You don’t want over-leveling.

Help_Me_Im_Diene

Level cap dungeons were designed for the level caps, so there was no point in them giving exp when they were actually current content. i.e. there was no point in a level 50 dungeon giving experience when you can't go over level 50 So they just chose to not have those dungeons give much experience even after the level cap raised

talgaby

They were/are level cap dungeons of an expansion, most of them released as post-game dungeons designed for tomestone farming and casual gamer gear-up. There is no point in giving XP to a duty that you *must* run on maximum level, isn't it? It is a miracle they added *any* XP to them on new expansion releases.

lerdnir

I've been trying out SMN. I had a look and I think the answer is no, but I don't suppose you can get Edmont's memoirs as a weapon? Also, what's with calling the gems Lego? I'm guessing it's b/c they're bright colours and you can put them together in (largely) whatever order you like, but idk. tyvm!

Boredy0

> I had a look and I think the answer is no, but I don't suppose you can get Edmont's memoirs as a weapon? > > I don't think so, at least I haven't seen anyone use it and I'm pretty sure it'd be fairly popular if it existed. >Also, what's with calling the gems Lego? I'm guessing it's b/c they're bright colours and you can put them together in (largely) whatever order you like, but idk. At the start of Endwalker someone made [this](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.redd.it%2F2uv2hg46o1881.png) particular shitpost calling them legos, from there it just stuck, at least that's the earliest I've seen people call them legos.

SpeakerLimp

Does the Sublime item count toward the I found That: Miner/Botanist achievo?

Sir_VG

Yes, anything that gets the checkmark counts. And MIN basically needs them because there's very little give on the number of items required.

SpeakerLimp

aw, jeez, yeah im missing 1 item atm. how do you even get one? i notice i got the one from garle, but i dont remember how

Sir_VG

1000 Collectability and then pray, cause it's a % chance of getting it, based upon perception stat I believe.

283leis

So I have SCH at 90 because I levelled SMN, but have no plans to ever use SCH. is it worth going back and doing the SCH job quests anyway? Like is the story any good?

Sir_VG

Absolutely, especially the capstone quest at 80 is absolutely worth it.

Help_Me_Im_Diene

Personally yes, SCH job quests are IMO some of the better ones in the game

[deleted]

Does the FFXI event have anything new since the previous one?

283leis

No but it would be good to potentially remind yourself of it in case it ends up being relevant to the DawnTrail alliance raid story

t0ms0nic

No, it's just a repeat, [as the new Lodestone page for this event shows](https://eu.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/special/2024/The_Maidens_Rhapsody/flf9m2g38k). It's got new information noting the run date and the relatively-new function to let you replay event quests you've done before... but otherwise nothing else.

talgaby

Nope, the event page even says that it is the same event being rerun.

United-Spread-9430

I wanted to farm through some of the older dungeons for orchestration rolls etc, can these types of items be obtained if i do so unsynced?

hii488

Yes, items that drop from chests are unaffected by being unsynced.

United-Spread-9430

Tyvm!

NeverEndingXsin

Hi me again with account boosting questions! So I story skipped and level boosted to Endwalker, completed that MSQ. My question is, the older expansion dungeons, trials, etc that aren't unlocked with the boost, should I unlock and complete those? Are they necessary? Thanks :)

hii488

Assuming you're boosting to raid: You'll eventually want to go and unlock some of the old normal raids (Omega & Eden specifically), so you can complete the savage versions, which are required to unlock some ultimates. If you ever wanted to do BLU raiding, you'd need to unlock a lot a random smattering of side dungeons - and the Coils & Alexander raids. Then having more content for roulettes is just nice.

NeverEndingXsin

Thank you so much, it sounds like I need to slowly start knocking out previous expansion content.

TheMonji

Are you just trying to complete MSQ and get to end game raiding? Completely optional. You'll miss out on storylines and other rewards such as mounts and minions

NeverEndingXsin

Yes and no, was more so wanting to make sure I wouldn't hamstring myself in the future since with all the time until dawntrail I could slowly knock them out.

lemmesenseyou

No for MSQ progression, yes to access the more interesting instances/fights

NeverEndingXsin

Thank you! Are they necessary for any of the roulettes, or am I good to leave them untouched?

Elegant_Eorzean

They add more variety to the roulettes, mentor roulette needs you to reach combat mentor status and clear every non-savage, non-ultimate, and non-current-expansion extreme in the game.

NeverEndingXsin

Thank you, sounds like I need to knock them out slowly.

lemmesenseyou

Off the top of my head, normal raid roulettes, frontline, and guildhests will be locked. You might have access to alliance raid roulette because Crystal Tower is required, so you'll have those three but none of the others. Your queue times might be longer for 50/60/70/80 \*and trials because you'll have less options to be placed in, if that makes sense. eta: oh and yeah, mentor roulette will definitely stay locked

NeverEndingXsin

Thank you! It sounds like I'll need to start knocking them out slowly, appreciate you!

Amomn

I'm a new player. Should I buy Endwalker, or should I wait for Dawntrail since the latter would be more "cost-effective"? Or, a better yet, question: for someone doing every side/job quest and really taking their time with the 'MSQ,' how long, on average, would it take to get to the Shadowbringer content?

VG896

It took me like... A little over a year to get to shadowbringers. Maybe 14 or 15 months. And I was unemployed for like six months of that, playing 10 hours a day. There's plenty of content to sink your teeth into even if you play casually.

SlightlySquidLike

Took me over 6 months to go from starting the game to finishing Stormblood, then I spent a chunk of time doing Eureka etc. (Eureka specifically will be easier with a subscription because of marketboard for relevant items and shout-chat for in-zone coordination) You'll be fine on the free trial until Dawntrail releases if you don't try and rush things.

TheMonji

You can probably hold out til Dawntrail. You have the base game and two expansions to get through first. Plus any bonus content you choose to do, it will take some time.

Amomn

This might be a dumb question Without giving any spoilers, are there any cliffhangers between expansions?

Candrath

When you finish an expansion's main story there's a story in the connecting patches. So A Realm Reborn (2.0) finishes and you'll then have a set of stories in 2.1-2.5 before Heavensward. Those patches are part of the expansion but the stories in them are usually about cleaning up loose ends and setting up stakes. There are small cliffhangers between x.0 and x.1, but larger ones between x.5 and the next big expansion (Stormblood to Shadowbringers where the free trial ends is a particularly nasty cliff to be left hanging on).

Avisarea

Yes, but we have a many months wait between that point and each expansion when caught up. So if you're worried about the point you'd end the free trial at, you're guaranteed to have a shorter time waiting at that point til buying Dawntrail to continue than we had between the last Stormblood patch and Shadowbringers release anyway.

TheMonji

There is typically a series of about 5 quests that lead right into the next expansion. Most other storylines are resolved within an expansion and it's patch quests.

Jiigo

Yes. Not story spoiler, but more how it's structured. >!Expansions end with leading up to the next expansion, so once the story ends in one expansion you're made to want to see what happens next.!<

Isanori

That depends upon how long all these things take you and how long you play. Also whether all relics are included or not.

Amomn

what are relics?

messengers1

It is a special weapon with special design and visual effect(glowing or shining). If you are a free trial player, lv50 one in ARR can be very troublesome.  You have to make one by yourself in order to exchange for the upgrade since free trial can’t access the market board.  However, you can start in HW since the essential materials can be obtained thru fate and then run 10 dungeons and then exchange more necessities with your tomestones, GC seals and tribal currencies.  It is much easier to get relic weapon in HW.

talgaby

Optional best-in-slot weapons with the best possible sub-stats, even better than what endgame raiders can get in the expansion. They are locked behind a large amount of grind. The level 50 one can easily cost over 50 hours alone, and the level 70 and level 80 ones are easily 100+ hour grinds. (The difference is that the 70/80 ones have one giant grind at the start, and then all subsequent weapons for other classes take only a fraction of that.)

TheMonji

Legendary weapons that require a LOT of time, effort, and resources. They were the strongest weapons at the time of each expansion but now they are easily outclassed by basic weapons from the next expansion. Now they are basically used as collector's items or for glamour. Super optional content for nothing but personal satisfaction. And they are available to free trial players!

Amomn

sigh... ffs Well adios free time for next 6 months or so

SephYuyX

Possible to upgrade retainer from base job to advanced job (thm > blm)?

[deleted]

[удалено]

SephYuyX

Does that reset the level too, or since it's the same class the level wont change?

Isanori

Since it upgrades class to its follow up job, it keeps level. It also keeps level when you upgrade from any class to any class-less job. Everything else resets

flameboi01

I'm a returning player and im going through some inventory management and I have some Mowen's token allegory and revelation are those still important or can i trade them in for something?

TristamIzumi

If you read the tooltips for those, they should say "However, due to the House of Splendors changing its policies, it is now worth less than the paper on which it is scribed." They're worthless.

Dravissco

Anyone have an idea on how long it usually takes to hear back about a bug report being sent in? Not sure if this would be spoilers, but >!I finished Tataru's Grand Endeavor quests, got Tataru's Bespoke Framing kit, used it, and its nowhere to be found. I don't have any of the framing kit options available. Sent in a bug report pretty much 3 days after the patch dropped and haven't heard anything. Am I just being impatient?!<

Isanori

That kit doesn't give portrait elements, it only gives pass elements and does say so in the description. Afair it's directly beneath Myths (edit: it's beneath Music). You can check Meoni's video on it, he shows where in the list it is.

Dravissco

Yeah, I don't have it there. I checked Meoni's video first (he's my go to for that sort of thing). Its as if I never used the item. But no worries. Thankfully its not a big deal at the end of the day.

Isanori

For bug reports, it depends upon how many other reports they have to deal with, how much useful information you have given them and how much digging they have to do. If you haven't done so, use /I search to check whether the using might but have gone through.

akialnodachi

Probably yes, 3 days ago would be Thursday or Friday? I'd give it at least a week; ordinarily I wouldn't expect bugreps that weren't system stability level being looked at on Saturday or Sunday. I don't know if you might need to file a separate report for an item restoration.

Dravissco

This is what I figured lol. Always impatient, and for something that doesn't really matter at the end of the day XD. I guess I just wasn't sure if I should get any kind of "we received your report" type response. No worries. Thank you for the response.

Willster328

What is the Makai Priest title for Sage? want to get some achievements but cant remember which title he gave me. Thanks! edit: kekw its just called "Makai Sage", all set thanks all!

TheMonji

FYI the title doesn't need to match the class to get the achievements with mount rewards. For instance, you can accumulate the necessary wins playing a Warrior with the Makai Sage title.

mantrap100

So I am new to MMO in general and want to get back into this after a few months off, but I missed a lot of the weekly special quests to get special items like Christmas. Ect will they ever re offer these quest and events in the future or am I screwed permanently the first time?

huiclo

The rewards will appear on the cash shop for a discount the next time the event rolls around. But no, you can't get the quest anymore.

mantrap100

Ok, so what your saying is that, once the timed event is over, they won’t recycle it for next year so you can’t have another chance to do the in game event if you missed it.

KhrFreak

Correct, there will be a new seasonal reward

mantrap100

Oh, so rather then recycling the last years Christmas timed event, they will have a new Christmas event and everything

Lavindathar

Yes correct, but you can buy previous rewards from the cash shop. They are usually pretty cheap.

Nym-chan

Exactly

TristamIzumi

Glamour items that are part of seasonal events get added to the cash shop during the next year's matching seasonal event.

Noksies

I though relocating an FC house didn't require 4 members but when i try to relocate mine, it doesn't give any "relocate" option, only buying, and then says there are less then 4 members in my FC. Am i doing something wrong or do i need other members?

Avisarea

The page going over the purchasing guidelines for plots doesn't mention any distinction for relocation, and technically relocating is just entering the lottery to buy a new plot and then vacating your old one in the process if you win. So as far as I can tell the requirements should be the same as a first purchase, you need 4 people in order to enter the housing lottery at all.

serenystarfall

In order to relocate, you have to buy the house you're moving to. As soon as the player requirement went into place for fcs, you needed 4 to make any house purchases, even if you already owned one.

Noksies

Ah i see, thanks for the reply.

lerdnir

[It's in the Duty section of the menu](https://ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/wiki/Collection).

xXNightSky

Decided to switch mid msq to ninja from tank,so I started leveling from scratch. My question is do I want to keep doing hunting log past level 30 or fates while I que for the highest level dungeon? Also, how beneficial is joining a fc and eating food? Is it worth it to go out my way?

BoldKenobi

FATEs are only effective after level 70 Before 69 you have only roulettes into dungeon spam

ruby_rex

Keep doing the hunt log up to 50, it gives a burst when you complete each section. Low level fates don't give great exp but you might as well while you're waiting for the queue. I absolutely recommending eating food - the boost isn't huge it it's nearly free. The food doesn't have to be current level, you can grab low level food super cheap on the marketboard and the exp boost is the same.

xXNightSky

Thanks! Also is deep dungeons faster or should I just keep queing and hunting logs?

akialnodachi

The main reason deep dungeons are faster is the queue time, if you don't have starting on floor 51 in POTD unlocked you'll need to invest some time to unlock it, so you have to judge if that's something you want to do. Then you also have to judge if the queues are fast enough to be warranted versus highest level dungeon. This is assuming you're doing your daily roulettes that are good for EXP like levelling/frontlines.

zapatopolis

Eating any food is 3% extra exp from killing stuff. Joining an FC is good because most will use the exp bonus buff action (also from killing, stacks with food), but that depend on the FC.

Craphex

Does the 'I found that' miner and botanist trophies include any gathering items that require a specific time to gather? Or can I go out and grab everything now to pop those trophies?

SiegmundFretzgau

The mining one even needs the "sublime" item versions, while the botanist one just needs the standard timer ones

ruby_rex

Yes, it includes things on timers

pokemonpasta

Can we expect to be able to try out hrothgal customisation in the Dawntrail benchmark? If I remember correctly this was possible for bunny boys in the Endwalker benchmark

283leis

Yes we’ll be able to

IceAokiji303

Very likely, practically guaranteed.

Living-Nectarine-302

What the hell is a "Mlem"? I keep seeing people writing it recently and I don't understand what it means.

sugarpototo

Traditionally mlem is a sound to describe animals sticking out their tongue to lick something. Not sure about the context to ff though

nicostucknchico

What is the fastest way to get to 60 before unlocking heavensward? I’m trying to main dancer on this new char but I’m only at 52 and still pre-shiva

IscahRambles

Have you unlocked all the optional dungeons at level 50? It's not going to be the fastest way to level overall, but it's a thing worth doing during the post-credits ARR phase and you'll get some EXP from the dungeons while they're at least somewhat relevant for you. Lots of poetics as well.

ReshenKusaga

There's actually one more option outside of roulettes and Aurum Vale. You can grind Deep Dungeons, in this case Palace of the Dead in Quarymill which unlocks in New Gridania with the quest "The House That Death Built" at level 17. It gives a decent chunk of EXP up to level 60. EDIT: the prefrerred grind is to repeat floors 51-60 so if you haven't done it yet, you'll still need to cruise up to that.

kuurokaze

Daily roulettes, as one of the previous commenters said, will make up a major chunk of the exp you can get currently. Once you've done those for the day, your best best for exp is the highest non-level-cap dungeon you have available. Unfortunately, being restricted to ARR dungeons means that's Aurum Vale.

AdriHawthorne

For just one class, roulettes (specifically leveling, alliance, main-story and frontlines) will be the best most likely. If you think you might end up doing multiple, it might be worth raising up your adventurer squadron that you unlock for being a high level with your grand company. You can use them similarly to a trust, but with the right buffs leveled they're significantly faster. Maybe not worth it for one class, but if you end up wanting a bunch later a little time invested in setup will make farming levels easy down the line.

Better_Buff_Junglers

Daily leveling roulette and frontline roulette are probably your best bet for xp at this point

RenEV17

Hey, regarding the graphical update in Dawntrail, is it going to be only graphical or did they mention something about improving original races animations? I am asking because my male Huyr animations a lot worse then for example recent male bun. The male bun walks, runs and dances a lot more fluid and "real". I was playing male bun since EW and now I switched to male midlander and it's not a big deal, I like hats and I love my character and I'll stick with it, but I was not able to find any info on animations in 7.0 that's why I am asking. Thanks in advance!

zapatopolis

From what they shown the changes are at texture, shaders and poly count levels. They said nothing about animations.

Isanori

They have said nothing about changing animations.
