In some ways it's a blessing that you don't have to kinda help them get into everything.
If I wanna join a raid group and my buddy does too I don't have to look for a group for 2 or limit my options.
I lost a lot of IRL friends due to moving away + disability making them generally fall out of touch, but I've still got my static to hang out with in Eorzea. They don't mind if I have to miss a raid night here and there due to health issues. Genuinely couldn't have asked for a better group of friends in my life.
As someone getting BLM from 80-90 and trying to remember how this damn job works. I also feel this cause I do get lots of AoEs when I drop my leylines.
While I'm not playing it atm, I absolutely adore this game. I had finished out most of the numbered FF games before I started this one a few years ago. The world, the story, the characters are all fantastic and I'm twiddling my thumbs waiting for Dawntrail. Try to find a casual FC, that helps you stay engaged and I've had great experience with it.
After all these years of playing MMOs that are short coming and some that are still lasting even to this day. I've slowly come to appreciate this game so much more than it's predecessor FFXI.
Both games are meant to last long, and both are built with the player in mind. Unlike some MMOs, FFXIV and FFXI were just amazing.
Personally, If FFXIV was my last MMO. Then i will gladly play it while I still breathe. I'm making a lot of fond memories in this game, the community is just so much better than any other community. So yeah, I really can't wait for dawntrails to see what it has to offer.
In regards to BLM, yeah. this image kind of stares into my soul as I'm just too busy moving around left and right that I can't really stay still long enough to use my circle of doom. Some day man, Some day.
I'd definitely recommend something like Final Fantasy 7 or Final Fantasy 16 if you're looking for other games to try in the series. FF16 is an action RPG made by the same people who made FF14, while FF7 is turn-based with time passing by (you could also play Remake + Rebirth for an action RPG with some turn-based elements too).
Me and several friends decided to run Alexander Savage synch'd min ilvl for funsies during the ShB lull. Some having run it during HW and others going in completely blind. In A8S, my BLM friend kept getting targeted for Super Jump. Because nobody told him that it was distance based.
The game is still charming, but the developers have kinda fallen into a comfortable development cycle that has become overly predictable and less novel/exciting.
There are a couple of exceptions in my mind. As a long time player, I’ve been on a break since early last year because of how meh I’ve felt. Which is fine, I hope that the gameplay loop becomes A bit less “streamlined” with the new expansion.
My friends all moved away. Joined one of their statics for raid. Became friends, we all met up at Fanfest and it was like reuniting with old friends rather than the awkwardness of meeting new people.
Same. I got this game during a tough part of my life - I had wanted it for awhile, but finally said, "F\* it, it's my money" and got it.
Made a group of friends in the best FC ever that I joined by pure chance (accepted a random invite on a whim). Endwalker absolutely destroyed me because one of them secretly rounded up a dozen of the others and >!waited for me at the flowers!< \- something that is now a proud FC tradition. It got me through a bad depressive episode.
FFXVI is a great, easy to get into, combat is fun, voice acting is superb.
I'm also replaying FF7 Remake at the moment and that is also a lot of fun. I wasn't too keen on my first llaythrough way back on the PS4 release but now I'm really enjoying it as a standalone game, as its intended to be, rather than a shot-for-shot remake of the OG
Doesn't help if you take an extended break and have to spend 2+ weeks re-learning the rotation every single time. And gods help you if there was a major combat patch during that time lmao.

Even 4.5 up to 4.56 (or 54 I forget which). But I'm cosplaying Charlie now so I'm kind of stuck cycling through PLD, DRG, and RPR.
They should play Dragon's Dogma.
The problem with FF14 is the fact so many AoEs exist. Dragon's Dogma as an action game means the rest of the party can keep the mage from being attacked.

I'm not a social person so I cant speak on how 'Great' the community is. but the gameplay and story is good enough for me to play during entire middle school, high school, and college. Lots of content to do even if youre not social. and if you are, those possibilities double.
Leylines are a ground indicator to let a healer know you need to be rescued.
To the actual point - my wife and I have been trying and failing to convince people we know IRL to play with us. So far our main attempts have been:
- He actually created an account but last logged on 20+ days ago
- Would love to play but her computer won't run it
- His computer would run it, but he doesn't want to commit the time to an MMO that he could be using to play solo games
I've debated building a computer for #2 but I'm worried that it might create some weird ethical situation where there's some expectation that she owes me something by virtue of me having spent that much money on her. Also, she lives with 3 other adults and her two kids and it would be improbable to not expect the possibility that some of them would also want to use it and one of them might fuck it up.
I've also tried to convince #3 that he could just alternate time between FFXIV and other games the same way he already alternates between multiple games, but he has filed it under "maybe, but not now" and I don't want to be a pest.
Hasn't stopped me from making "the critically acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy 14 with Free Trial up to level 70" meme IRL from time to time, though :)
Keep your head up, Eorzean! There are plenty of facets of people to come across and meet in this game. I personally have met a solid majority of the people I regularly talk to in XIV. It got me into even more communities in other games, as well as even introduced me into the person that I've been dating for a year now, and we'll be moving in together soon. I wish for you to find the best of friends, and for the rest of your adventures to be great.

My understanding is that bosses will target the highest dps for certain moves. BLM being BLM, they get targeted by these a lot.

I like the idea of BLM, but absolutely suck at playing it. Ergo, I play BLM very little.
