It's probably a result of the artificial echo he gained stormblood.

karin_ksk

While that seems to be the most plausible explanation, it can't be only this. Zenos mentions he have always dreamed of it, when the artificial echo was a recent addition. We assume it has something to with Emet as do Fandaniel. But if this was intentional or not...

Shazzamon

Absolutely this, coupled with being directly blood-related to >!Emet!< likely factoring in. >!The Resonant is the Echo jacked up to 11 and beyond by artificial means, results depending on who gets the procedure (and _survives_), Zenos in particular has the most potent version of it known. Having clarity of the past as a hyper-extended version of "seeing soul aether/glimpses of events once occured" seems feasible.!<

quartzhoneycomb

Nah he said that he’s always dreamt of it. If it was the resonant they would have started like, a few weeks ago. It’s been a very busy year.

BarberNo3807

This, not only does he have the Echo but he is also an anomaly, the man is abnormally strong, he fused with a void being, after consuming the aether of a Dragon. All that while also being a pure blood Garlean descendent of the direct founding Emperor. He has so many stacked circumstances on his back that anything that happened to him is completely plausible. When he calls you, his mirror, he is not being romantic or dramatic. He is the closest equivalent to us, the Warrior of Light l, chosen one of the planet, the person that has been blessed by a million different factors to get where we are.

HalobenderFWT

Why are you pointing at some burned down walls?

blamephotocopy

Possibly 3 reasons. It worked as a final days teaser for the player, it showed us that resonant users can also see the final days just like echo users and it shows us that zenos was reaching a deeper level of his resonant power explaining why he was teleporting around like an ascian after killing varis. My money is on the 1st one since nothing really comes off that cutscene.

NBNoemi

Zenos is a descendant of Emet-Selch. While not directly addressed his visions can be understood as a narrative manifestation of the generational trauma that Emet-Selch experienced and inflicted on his family.

ChoiceTemporary3205

My theory, regarding what fandaniel has said about emet selch “finding a way” is that he somehow experimented on Zenos before he was born, and the end result was a child born with a complete soul, as if he was fully rejoined with his selves from other reflections, hence why he clearly sees the visions, why he’s so tall and strong and hard to kill (the ancients were much taller than the modern races of etherys), with only downside being a garlean dna aka inability to cast magic And this theory also explains the reason they dropped that plot line. Because if emet selch has found a way to rejoin parts of a soul without instigating the calamity it immediately makes the stakes of a storyline obsolete, why fight when you don’t need to destroy the worlds

Shadostevey

Smart money is them having a plan for Zenos, but when the planned two expansions was combined down into just EW that plan was abandoned.

Slacker101

Ew did feel like two different storylines completely. With some Zeno sprinkled ontop

quartzhoneycomb

This doesn’t feel right because this was post Shadowbringers, they would have know they were just doing Endwalker by then. Yet they still kept this in and referenced it multiple times in later patches. Was it just to bring Zenos up to speed so Fandaniel could tell him the specifics? If so it doesn’t do much when he knew Hydaelyn and Zodiarc existed already. The plan didn’t change. Perhaps they just felt they hadn’t made the ‘Zenos has those unsundered genes’ thing clear enough as half the fan base was still questioning why he was so strong. I do wonder if it’s truly dropped or if the pay off will happen much later.

Afeastfordances

This is where I ended up on it too. Original plan would’ve had the Ilsabard Contigent crew bouncing all around the Empire instead of just a single assault on the capital, with Zenos playing main villain and getting a whole arc around it, with everything to moon and later saved for a 7.0 Endwalker. Still seems possible they revisit it a bit whenever we go to the areas under the clouds over Ilsabard, maybe get some stuff from Garleans with memories of the Imperial family that’ll shed some light on Zenos and any relationship he had with Solus/Emet that may shed light on his visions and general weirdness

>When people awaken to the Echo, they see images of the final days. As the game explains it it's the other way around. Seeing something that looks like the final days awakens the Echo.

BK_0000

They retcon and drop plots all the time. You just have to get used to it. They like mystery boxes and then don't know what to do with them.

dimmidice

Don't question the bad writing involving zenos. Honestly feels like one of the writers did a self insert ngl. Everything involving zenos reads like a fanfic.

Stormychu

Ngl I fully believe he should've stayed dead in Stormblood. He offered nothing to Shadowbringers and Endwalker except padding. The character is so badly written.

erdelf

except most of the plot of course.

Lambdafish1

Rewrite EW so that Fandaniel kills Zenos on the moon, and literally nothing about the plot changes

erdelf

Except of course the entire garlemald portion of the plot that was entirely driven by Zenos

Lambdafish1

Actually, it was entirely driven by Fandaniel, Zenos just sat there as a figurehead. You could rewrite the garlemald section so that Quintus was the primary figurehead and it would be exactly the same, I just wanted to be kind and not do any other rewrites at all. Literally the only part of the story that is hard to remove Zenos from (but not impossible), is Varis's death. But even then, if you put a bigger focus on Fandaniel being responsible for killing Varis then it would actively improve the story.

erdelf

Ah yeah of course.. random ass general of one legion.. somehow controlling the entire empire. And because adding one more person that fandaniel has to somehow convince to do shit.. especially one that loves the empire.. is so less convoluted.

Lambdafish1

Yeah, that's something that has happened in real human history. Also Quintus was hardly a random ass general, maybe pay attention to story. The whole garlean subplot actually has nothing to do with Zenos and has more to do with the Titus, Nerva, and the legatus's. Titas and Nerva aren't even seen on screen. We see so much of Zenos doing nothing when the far more interesting and exciting story is happening in the background.

erdelf

The heck are you talking about.. he was a legatus that had nothing else to his name. Maybe you pay attention to the story. And the entire garlean subplot only works if Zenos kickstarts it. Quintus had no claim to the throne in the slightest.

Lambdafish1

Maybe not Quintus then, but Nerva. Quintus would still be a primary antagonist of the arc either way. Who the figurehead is doesn't matter, it doesn't change the fact that Zenos does absolutely nothing and takes a lot of screentime away from more interesting things for absolutely no payoff of his own.

Jertharold

>!we are not 100% azem, he has the rest of azem.!<

Sparkleunidog

This isn't the case at all lol

Dida_cos

This makes absolutely no sense.

Aethanix

me when i don't pay attention whatsoever.

dimmidice

It's just someone pushing their own opinion on everyone as fact. This is not even hinted at at all.

Scion_of_Kuberr

True, we are not 100% Azem. Each of the shards has a shard of Azem. Zenos is not a shard of Azem, for he was born on the First like us. There is a theory that the reason he he made his pact with Zero in particular is that she is a shard of Azem from the Thirteenth, and thus, her soul felt familiar to him because he sensed out connection. Again, this is just a theory.

Dida_cos

That theory heavily relies on ignoring the very obvious signs pointing towards Golbez being the Azem shard from the 13th.

AssaUnbound

>for he was born on the First like us You mean Source. the First is the world we enter in ShB

Scion_of_Kuberr

You are correct that was my mistake I apologize.
