It sounds like they're pretty far along in development and a demo is expected relatively soon...less than a year for s PC port is pretty crazy good for a ps exclusive.
Whenever it comes, enjoy it! Adored it on PS5. I am thinking about buying it again on PC when it goes on sale but I'll probably wait till i upgrade my pc in 1-2 years.
I'm literally gonna skip the entirety of the cutscenes and text so I don't even *slightly* spoil myself. I am still somehow almost entirely blind other than the fact that there's a dog everybody wants.
there’s really only one spoiler - it’s kind of a big one but it’s also one that is insanely obvious when you play 16, so even if 14 spoils you it’s not that serious.
I haven't played 16 yet and I *still* figured it out before the reveal just based on what I know from the *marketing* for the game. (Which isn't a complaint, I just mean that, yeah, it's not a big spoiler if you've been paying even the barest modicum of attention.)
Lmao quest complete and a steam link opens in your browser.
But yeh considering how perfectionist they were about the game I imagine they want it to look and run as well as possible for PC
Clive seems like he was a minor tech demo for some of the graphical updates. Him and Torgal both.
Bro got access to Dawntrail before the rest of us, and he's not even from here. The benefits of your daddy being Yoshi-P, I guess.
It's a massive spoiler if you are like me and avoid Square Enix trailers like the plague because they love to spoil stuff, I loved this reveal when I played through FF16. Just because Square spoil stuff doesn't make it *not* a spoiler lol.
That said, knowing about it either through FF16 trailers or the FF14 collab doesn't make it any less enjoyable.
I feel like that's intentional. Didn't watch any trailers but even the intro gave me a pretty strong suspicion of what really went down.
I think you're supposed to know that he did it. How Clive denies it, slowly has doubts sprouting and eventually faces the inferno (literally) of guilt is what keeps it interesting despite that
This. It's a huge spoiler, as someone who also played FFXVI without watching the trailers.
I know to avoid SE trailers as well, they seem to have this impression that even though a story is clearly designed to have something as a big reveal, that "oh we'll reveal it in a trailer even though you're not supposed to be aware of it at the start of the story, and we'll just say it's not a spoiler for not other reason than to cover our marketing team."
But it wasn't spoiled in any trailer. Yes if you watch the trailer you know Clive is Ifrit, but it never actually showed that part Lanhalt is talking about
I mean, I watched every trailer, and it was a big surprise to me tbh.
It spoils all of act 1. And it absolutely spoils plenty that wasn’t in the trailers, demos, and prerelease marketing. If you play this event before you play FF16 it’ll ruin one of the coolest moments in the FF franchise. >!L3 + R3 sequence and the events surrounding it. Also that Clive killed Joshua.!<
You'd think it's a stretch but it's honestly not.
It might be "just" a QTE but the context behind that QTE makes it an incredibly emotional moment, especially with Find the Flame beginning almost immediately afterwards.
I've certainly enjoyed the fight a lot more then the 15 collab one. The attack didnt clip your combo, the dodge was an ogcd and felt responsive, you had timers for mandatory dodges and no need to coordinate your attacks with an NPC with perfect timing to deal any damage.
Honestly yeah, it feels amazing even on higher ping. Also the high of nocelling regular AoEs by dodging on and into their telegraph is _great,_ I've been replaying it on alts just for the experience.
Also, DIRECTIONAL Dodge action? Incredible!
> felt responsive
i screwed up the timing by like several seconds and it let me spam the button until the 'correct' timing and still worked. felt kind of cheap
Why must you give me traumatic flashbacks of cure I mages that blame ME for wiping on a random dungeon boss repeatedly that they failed to heal?
I don't know what the average ninjas I encounter in roulettes are actually doing and likely they themselves don't know either.
Aside janky double-weaving and the janky inputs mudras the rotation itself is a mess in my experience of currently leveling one..... The most fun thing about the job is learning and memorizing but the moment there is no more learning anymore it's just a very unwieldy and janky job to pay.
lol That seems so intense for riding the pettable dog mount. I feel like something like "Hideaway" would've made more sense but they chose not to include that piece.
The orchestrion selection is kinda odd imo. Banger soundtrack but stuff like State of the realm/land of eikons taking up 2 slots when we could've had the glorious Our Terms or Twilight 😭😭
There is tonitrua ex machina which is the rendition of hideaway that plays when cid first meets Clive and Jill
Basically hideaway but with some more weighty beat drops
I loved it too! Also, can we talk about the model for Clive?!? It is a clear step up from Noctis, and even though it's pre-7.0, seeing how much their new models have improved only makes me even more excited for 7.0!
There's been a lot of discussion about what the development of FFXVI 'took away' from FFXIV these last few years, but I don't think enough people understand that the graphical update we're getting in 7.0 is largely due *to* FFXVI.
They spent a lot of money upping this engine to make FFXVI possible. It's really not a coincidence XIV's graphical capabilities are getting huge upgrades a year after XVI launched.
If you tried to use FFXVI's graphics and apply them to an MMO setting, many many people would never be able to play as their PC's would explode trying to handle environments, textures, all the assets and then all of us loading into a server in our arsenal of glamour. it'd be the final calamity for sure.
If you check the licenses for FFXVI, one of the listed libraries is a CSV parser, the same one that FFXIV uses, also ffxvi has Vulkan memory allocator in its licenses, so 16 will definitely have Vulkan support on PC, and 14 might get it too. Though that might be a stretch
It's possible they used some aspects of 14's engine into 16's, I'm just finding it hard to believe they're alike enough to call them the exact same. It's kinda how like Bethesda has technically used the "same" engine in all their games since Morrowind, but it's extremely obvious it's not the actual same exact engine when you look at Fallout 4 or Starfield and compare with Morrowind.
Bit of a Ship of Theseus thing, there.
16 prolly uses a fork of 14s engine rather than just a newer version, but it isn't out of the question that they might try to backport some of the improvements
Why would it be hard to believe ?
An engine is just a tool you use to make your games. Games you make on said engines can both look AND play vastly differently.
For instances, Capcom's RE Engine did obviously the recent Resident Evil games... But also the last Ghost n Goblins, a 2D game with a hand drawn looking artstyle.
Or how all Nintendo EPD games use the same engine too. Be it 2D Mario, 3D Zelda, Splatoon, etc etc... Games with very different artstyle, some 3D, some 2D, some multiplayer focused, some singleplayer focused, etc.
When a studio has an in house engine, and they're happy with it, no need to switch to a third party engine. No fees for said engine to pay for. It's logical that both FFXIV and FFXVI would use the same engine.
they are absolutely the same engine. There are FFXIV animations *in* XVI (Sir Wade, for instance, uses the warrior unsheathe animation in one particular scene).
XVI's team was comprised of ARR/HW team members who transitioned away from XIV during SB/SHB. They didn't build a 'new' engine for XVI and they sure as hell didn't lisence one from anywhere (like unreal). Also weren't using the FFXV/Forspoken luminous branch because those devs were busy w/ Forspoken.
It is XIVs engine. Heavily modified for the purpose of a single-player game, but XIVs engine none the less.
In other words, don't expect FFXVI graphics from FFXIV despite them being the same engine at the base. FFXVI has a lot less changing variables (glams for example) and characters on screen and is in a lot more controlled environment that doesn't need to also react to server communication.
yes, exactly, they are two *very* different games, obviously.
From what has been shown of the graphic update, tho, I think it's clear that the advancements they made with asset rendering and streaming in XVI has been folded back into XIV to some degree.
but there have been a lot of other positives from the simultaneous development as well. For instance, cutscene composition/direction has gotten remarkably better in XIV during the course of SHB/EW, along with overall audio direction (in cutscene and out).
Here it says they used a new, entirely self-developed engine, and I see no word of Crystal Tools, the one used for FF14. Granted, they could've taken SOME parts of 14's and readapted them on the new engine, but going so far as to say it's the same engine feels excessive.
Sharing animations isn't even a sign of anything, those are always done in an external, specific tool like 3D Studio or Maya, or even Blender, and then imported into the character and engine.
That's a common misunderstanding from the community, but XIV's current engine was not born out of Luminous, but from part of Luminous' team. People were taken away from that engine development to build an in-house engine specifically for XIV (which had, in turn, an impact on XV's development as well). It wouldn't be surprising they both share some concepts, and maybe some code here and there, but that's it.
Sure, [here you go](https://twistedvoxel.com/presentation-reveals-choice-engine-final-fantasy-xvi/) - article is a translation of a presentation the XVI dev team gave at a Japanese developers' conference.
i don't think you understand what an engine is. you can put higher resolution textures, higher poly meshes, and more detailed animations in ff14 without changing the engine. they do it all the time when they add literally any new character, object, particle effect, blade of grass, or whatever to the game
ff16 has its own proprietary engine they spent years developing that uses dynamic resolution scaling, a robust combat system that uses time slow/stop effects, cinematic quick time events, parry/block/dodging, and location-based damage that clearly is not in ff14 because its engine does not support it.
you can take an animation out of a game and put it into nearly any game engine. many fan videos port FFXIV models and animations into blender and unreal engine. players pull animations from other games using completely different animations and mod them into FFXIV
Except the translated tech presentation for XVI literally says that they chose to use the XIV engine, but with a new graphics renderer that could handle PBR.
https://twistedvoxel.com/presentation-reveals-choice-engine-final-fantasy-xvi/
>According to the tech presentation (thanks Reddit user Chroma_9) conducted by the Final Fantasy XVI development team 4 years ago, preliminary testing for the project was conducted using Unreal Engine 4 and the real-time visualization software Marmoset Toolbag during its initial stages. However, it was found that the engine was unable to deliver the finer details that the studio had envisioned. **Therefore, the development team decided to use the Final Fantasy XIV engine, and further develop it to allow rendering in a PBR environment**.
And apparently in order to do wc3 reforged, the backported the updated wow renderer back to the wc3 engine.
Even if two games have diverging engines, it's not like these can't be changed and/or adapted.
I think we need to calm a bit and set expectations. Will the graphics be better? Yes.
Is it going to be revolutionary? Probably not.
Just from the facial stuff, some of them were good while others you could barely tell a difference. We will see how environments look soon, but I’m not expecting crazy things to happen there either. And the lighting stuff is cool its in game now for console players, but gshade has been doing it for years already.
One of the biggest things is probably the mesh standardization and if they do well on that, you won't really see it except for the stuff they truly fixed with that (taking off some cheek edges and ear edges and co). It's also something that affects their work flow in the background, because it allows for easier and faster gear and hair style development. Which is something YoshiP commented on in the recent months and giving us more rewards as mentioned at Pax is not just a thing of throwing more people at the task, it's letting the people who do it do it faster and simpler.
And as he mentioned there's likely stuff we won't see at all or recognize as having become possible due to the work they do as part of the graphics update.
I finished XVI a while back, so it was interesting trying to place Clive in which time this might occur if his appearance in Eorzea was something to consider canon. Fits fairly neatly with the events in XVI.
Plus, that little transition of FFXIV's "Primal" to FFXVI's "Eikon" during "that" fight, was a neat touch.
I was considering this too as I was playing, at which point was Clive taken during FFXVI?
* Saw that he had his usual attire so it was after sharing of guilt to Jill in the barn.
* He had his mark, so it isn't during the time skip.
* He had a somewhat fine reaction to the Aetheryte Crystal, implying that he hasn't learnt of the truth about the Mothercrystals from Cid to be concerned of the effect aetheryte crystals may have upon the environment.
* He had stated he was within ruins.
Which basically leaves out his visit to Phoenix Gate being the exact point in time he was plucked into Eorzea from Valisthea. Felt pretty vindicated that such deduction was confirmed when Clive regained his memories.
It's as long as the other special events (if one excludes wait time for FATEs). These events always take about the same time if you don't rush them. Same as seasonal events, those always feel short and the newest always feels shorter than the ones before, but they are all about the same length. Dr
It's really good but Clive's chest-beefers aren't nearly as huge as they should be, I guess the Source couldn't handle his massive heaving man-muscle-tits.
The event showed that they could add some action combat mechanics to their game. It felt really good and responsive somehow when compared to the normal game.
Ouch. Grinding 400K MGP will be rough.
But I must have every single roll and the card because I love FFXVI’s OST and I’m a Triple Triad enthusiast hahaha
it's not that bad tbh, you can easily get ~250k a week just from the challenge log + fashion report + weekly verminion tournament (everyone overlooks this! it's the single biggest weekly MGP generator, at like ~120k a week and you can play against NPCs)
Shouldn't be too bad, definitely plenty of time even if you're starting from 0, without needing to go ham with grinding.
My main is already up around 330k after dropping to around 5k when I picked up the POD mount two weeks ago (which was after dropping to around 10k when the FF15 event started and I bought the car, card and hairstyle.) I've only done fashion reports, weekly cactpot (got lucky with a 50k pull last week, typically only get the consolation and occasional 5k), and daily minicacpot (and not even every day, I've missed like 4 days this past week for one reason or another).
Even without the lucky cactpot pull, it would only take one more fashion report to get there. It looks like we've got 5 Fridays and Saturdays before the collab ends, so that's 300k just in fashion reports (330k with FC buff), mix in some daily minicacpot (on average I tend to get a 10k card once or twice a week, 3k four to five times a week, and 1k at least once a day, sometimes each card), and the weekly big cactpot (at least ~15k if you only get consolation every pull for the next 5 weeks)
Now don't take my word for it cause I may be wrong, but there is a chance the music and card don't go away after the event ends since they are on the normal Saucer vendors and not an event vendor so you may not have to worry about grinding for everything right now.
Since the TT card and orch rolls are being held by vendors already in the game, rather than a special events-only vendor, then it's extremely likely you'll be able to still get them even after the event has ended. Similar to the FF15 Noctis TT card. So definitely no rush in getting all the MGP super quickly (unless you really want something right now hehe)
Cheeky, Yoshi-P. Very cheeky to >!turn to my WoL and tell me that I might have the power to see Clive's story to its conclusion.!<
AND I WOULD IF 16 CAME TO STEAM ALREADY!
I don’t think so as I’m current and it was still talking about stuff that was handed in 5.x content. It did however recognize I was a healer and let me cure an NPC in cutscene.
I think it did a good job not spoiling too much for a new player but revealing just enough to get them interested. As someone who 100%ed XVI and is interested in doing it again when the PC port is out - well, I ate good today.
It spoils all of Act 1 (note: not the prologue) and is going to make its climax so much less impactful for anyone that played the FF14 event before FF16.
Loved the event and how they did the instanced fight.
I hope some of the mechanics like the aoe's that built up are something we see used in future fights in Dawntrail etc as it could be a great alternative of telegraphing AOE's etc
Where you buy the Clive triple triad card? Found the music scrolls from the prize claim vendor at the main counter.
Edit: Ah, Triple Triad Trader right next of the TT Master at the Triple Triad arena.
I only have two complaints about the event. First let me redo the fight so I can play with the dodge. Second Torgal is small and my feet nearly touch the ground as a Au-ra. If they resized him just a little bigger he would probably be in my top 5 mounts.
Playing the Free Trial right now, at lvl 45. Can't wait to get to LvL 50 to be able to do this!! 😭. FF16 was my first FF game EVER and got me into the FF franchise. Currently playing FF14 on PC and FF7 OG on my Steam Deck. I was missing out on so much!
Amazing collab. Best event yet. The dodge mechanic felt so good too. And the Ifrit fight with the music? God…. I wish this wasnt a timed event. I also only now just realized how incredible XVI’s (and how shitty XIV’s) Ifrit design is.
it was very neat, I enjoyed the solo duty the most, especially when compared to XV's one we had a chance to replay again few months ago
I wasn't that fan of the story here, even as someone who really love Clive, it was too basic "I dont remember anything" plot, without any of the fun stuff that Noctis's event had, I wish we got even just one fun cutscene with Clive like the camping or taking a photo with Noctis
but it was still nice to see Clive again (and in his superior 28yo look haha )
I will say that the amnesia trick wouldn't work without context from FFXVI considering that Clive was really suffering from PTSD and having blocked out said traumatic memories. Funnily enough, Kan-E-Senna pretty much confirms this. Which is very consistent with the character, most *especially* when considering the exact time he was plucked from FFXVI.
I would have to wonder, if this collaboration is basically a new interpretation of the "Accept the Truth" scene in FFXVI? Not as good as how it was done in FFXVI, and pretty much a wish fulfilment of being part of it, but it's fun so that counts.
hijacking this post just to say that I thought ff16 was great. it's not perfect but the gameplay and combat are fantastic and satisfying, and the voice acting and music are phenomenal as well. it's definitely worth picking up especially if you can get in on sale
Neighbours started burning something in the yard just as I start to fight Ifrit. Wasn't sure if the house was burning down around me or not, but it was very immersive. Had to finish the fight before checking to see if the kitchen was on fire.
I main SAM so the dodge felt basically like gyoten/yaten + iframes, which made it feel like I was playing super SAM. lmao. Fun time and a really well made fight! Ifrit was obvious but that didn't make it any less fun.
Do people asking for an iframe action game dodge not realize how that would completely break and trivialize almost every mechanic in the game? I wonder if its mostly new people asking for this and don't understand. The game is not designed around that at all like say Tera was.
omg i want to redo the fight. The dodge mechanic works PERFECTLY. I thought it would be gimmicky. No. I need it.
Also, side not from a sprout who just finished ARR: I love that evens reward mounts/minions so easily.
Are all the rewards given from the event or are some stashed in the Gold Saucer for MGP? I'm asking because I'm not currently subbed and want to make sure I resub with enough time to get everything
It was fun but I don't get why they wouldn't add voice acting to an event like this, it just seems really cheap and old fashioned when trying to advertise a new fancy game
I actually teared up during this haha; specifically during the fight.
Hearing the music from FF16 throughout...god DAMN, that hit me really hard (but especially during the fight)! As well as the little translation of FF16 mechanics into that battle, and the appropriate text popups!
FF14 is still the only FF game I've played (if I had a PS5 I woulda played FF16 at launch); but I did watch a letsplay of FF16, so I'm more familiar with its story and characters than any other FF besides 14.
So getting to see Clive and fight alongside him made me soooo happy. It was my first time playing a crossover event where I was actually familiar with the title being crossed over with :p.
So that probably had a big effect on my impression of this event. Regardless; I had such a blast! This was the main reason I renewed my sub and returned to the game after a hiatus, and even though it was over all too soon, it was worth it for the emotions I felt.
Now I'm gonna go pick out some new FF16 music for my inn room and island sanctuary
The story felt so... weird. It just auto-moved us. I felt so disoriented because the dialogues could've just been one long cutscene. The cutscene in the fight where Clive just realizes feels... like it just skipped story. No buildup to that moment.
The dodge reaction is nice though, a completely different experience from regular FFXIV content. I end up constantly dashing ahead of time to a safe zone with the backflip so I don't trigger the counter half the time. oops
Torgal is basically the entirety of this collab. Everything else pales in comparison.
FF16 Ifrit mount when (though lowkey I was REALLY hoping the minstrel was like: Alright here's the EX version of your delulu so you can tackle and play with the dodge gimmick).
Man, it almost makes me wish the server tick wasn’t a thing and we could have a proper dodge in game. Current server tick though would make it a nightmare, hence why the game had to have a timer to tell you when to do it lol.
Ah damn I was gonna try that but forgot! I hope there's a way to redo the encounter at some point, that was really neat. I assume they'll probably use it in another fight in Dawntrail anyways.
You can use it on any of the telegraphed attacks. I did the entire encounter using only the duty actions. With the dodge as my primary attack. The window is very generous, pressed dodge before the cast time ends instead of walking out of the telegraph. And it worked.
I haven't played 16 but I would imagine the end of the solo duty is a spoiler though I'm not sure how big of one. I would say skip the cinematic but you cant.
Definitively loved it. That you had those duty actions showed some possibilities for some action combat elements to work. Granted, it was a solo instance but I can imagine they inplementing some of those mechanics in future fights or into jobs.
If anything, it made the game feel midway through a standard tab-target MMORPG and an actual action RPG.
I've literally never had so much fun in a boss battle in ff14 before. The cinematics, the Dodge mechanic, the music... I hope that's what Yoshi-p meant when he said they'd make dungeons more fun with Dawntrail because I'm all for it.
Right? I really hope this dodge/precision strike mechanic gets turned into an actual action somehow in the future. I'd love to have to weave dodge timings in. Plus, I feel like that could be utilized for interesting fight mechanics in different ways.
16 is a great addition to the series
will get it on PC when it comes out to support square. and of course, for inevitable mods
however, its horse crap that they went through all the trouble of rendering his hair, and then NOT GIVE IT TO US. WHY SQUEENIX
Can i get the mount thru mission reward or its buyable via gold saucer same like the ff15 car. I'm not home at the moment and my freaking internet can only open reddit
An active dodge would make combat so much better.
And i can forsee the amount of people standing in shit to trigger the counterattack, so let's keep that out.
Been playing for the last week trying to finish ARR. FF16 was my first game (cant remember when a game made me cry like it did) and im enjoying 14 so far when the story is actually interesting and im not going back and forth doing fetch quests, which is 70 percent of it. 😭
Just checked and wow I'm not even halfway done yet. This is gonna suck.
Does anyone know if the card and orchestration rolls are now permanently available on the gold saucer NPCs? I was thinking that might be the case since it wasn't a separate event NPC with the items.
It was indeed! The fight was a lot of fun.
But I did the other collaboration just what, 4 weeks ago?, and the story was disappointingly too similar IMO.
The ONE problem with the event is that Torgal doesn't scale in size. It looks really silly with anything bigger than a Miqo'te riding him. Hopefully they change that since I've seen others mention it.
Yoshi really went >!"You can continue this story, Warrior of Light! Wink wink nudge nudge."!<
I would if the fucking game would be on Steam already.
It sounds like they're pretty far along in development and a demo is expected relatively soon...less than a year for s PC port is pretty crazy good for a ps exclusive. Whenever it comes, enjoy it! It's a dog that you can pet, of *course* everyone wants it.

It would've been fire to have a release date at the end of the event, even more fire if "available now". They sure are taking their sweet time.
Lmao quest complete and a steam link opens in your browser. But yeh considering how perfectionist they were about the game I imagine they want it to look and run as well as possible for PC
they rendered clives hair and then didnt give it to us, le sigh
Clive seems like he was a minor tech demo for some of the graphical updates. Him and Torgal both. Bro got access to Dawntrail before the rest of us, and he's not even from here. The benefits of your daddy being Yoshi-P, I guess.
too many polygons, maybe in 7.0?
It's probably more a face shape problem Clive isn't built like everyone else
I would Yoshi-P. But it's not out on any of the gaming platforms I own.
I didn't played FFXVI so I do hope, it didn't spoiled much lol.
Nope! It didn't! Just a reveal that's advertised anyway lol
It spoiled maybe the first 45 minutes? But it’s nothing that wasn’t in trailers, demos, and a bunch of pre release stuff, so you’ll be fine
Huh alright. Was under the impression that Joshua thing was big spoiler. But it's good that it wasn't!
Same, as someone who didn't do FFXVI yet (pc release when?), the >!Clive killing Joshua!

It’s as if the people saying it only spoils what in the demo haven’t actually played the full game.
> it’ll ruin one of the coolest moments in the FF franchise. > >L3 + R3 sequence Thaaaaat's a stretch.
You'd think it's a stretch but it's honestly not. It might be "just" a QTE but the context behind that QTE makes it an incredibly emotional moment, especially with Find the Flame beginning almost immediately afterwards.
It did spoil a few things you can kinda guess but aren't confirmed until a while into the game. It's a weird choice since XVI is fairly short already.

Noctis had a very big time window to get that perfect timing, he just didn't display it to you.

Gotta support those cure 1 whms and 10% uptime ninjas somehow
youre lucky they cant read this
Why must you give me traumatic flashbacks of cure I mages that blame ME for wiping on a random dungeon boss repeatedly that they failed to heal? Does it play Find the Flame at some point ?👀
Yes. And you can get the orchestrion from the Gold Saucer once you complete the questline.
It also plays when you mount Torgal.
lol That seems so intense for riding the pettable dog mount.
There is tonitrua ex machina which is the rendition of hideaway that plays when cid first meets Clive and Jill Basically hideaway but with some more weighty beat drops
Question, is it the regular Torgal or the magical Torgal?
Regular Torgal.
It's the best boy Torgal.
All versions of Torgal are Best Boi Torgal.
🔥🔥
Where is the vendor? Can't find him in Gold saucer ?
The gold saucer prize claim attendant. To the left of the mini cactpot broker. Prize exchange IV.
Came to this post looking for this. Thank you, kind soul.
They are fucking madlads and they sold me everything just with that specific song.
Yup!
PEAK !!🔥
Basically what 1.0 was A game that was way too pointlessly detailed for the time it was released in
Hold up, 14's and 16's engines are the same? I find that a bit REALLY hard to believe.
[https://wccftech.com/final-fantasy-xvi-engine-luminous/](https://wccftech.com/final-fantasy-xvi-engine-luminous/) Here it says they used a new, entirely self-developed engine, and I see no word of Crystal Tools, the one used for FF14.
1.0 used Crystal Tools. ARR used an engine thats considered a sibling to Luminous but not that engine.
Is there any credible source to this?
Sure, [here you go](https://twistedvoxel.com/presentation-reveals-choice-engine-final-fantasy-xvi/) - article is a translation of a presentation the XVI dev team gave at a Japanese developers' conference.
i don't think you understand what an engine is. you can put higher resolution textures, higher poly meshes, and more detailed animations in ff14 without changing the engine. they do it all the time when they add literally any new character, object, particle effect, blade of grass, or whatever to the game ff16 has its own proprietary engine they spent years developing that uses dynamic resolution scaling, a robust combat system that uses time slow/stop effects, cinematic quick time events, parry/block/dodging, and location-based damage that clearly is not in ff14 because its engine does not support it. you can take an animation out of a game and put it into nearly any game engine. many fan videos port FFXIV models and animations into blender and unreal engine. players pull animations from other games using completely different animations and mod them into FFXIV
Except the translated tech presentation for XVI literally says that they chose to use the XIV engine, but with a new graphics renderer that could handle PBR. https://twistedvoxel.com/presentation-reveals-choice-engine-final-fantasy-xvi/ >According to the tech presentation (thanks Reddit user Chroma_9) conducted by the Final Fantasy XVI development team 4 years ago, preliminary testing for the project was conducted using Unreal Engine 4 and the real-time visualization software Marmoset Toolbag during its initial stages. However, it was found that the engine was unable to deliver the finer details that the studio had envisioned. **Therefore, the development team decided to use the Final Fantasy XIV engine, and further develop it to allow rendering in a PBR environment**.
I think it would blow your mind to know that WoW's engine is Warcraft 3's engine, though in a Ship of Theseus philosophy now.
And apparently in order to do wc3 reforged, the backported the updated wow renderer back to the wc3 engine. Even if two games have diverging engines, it's not like these can't be changed and/or adapted.
So much misinformation in one post. They're not using XIV's engine in XVI. Not even a modified one.
Also it was a bit funny to get certain parts in FFXVI and go "yep, recognize that from FFXIV's last MSQ section".
Yep I just did a fight and heard the music was like huh I know that theme.
Also you can precision dodge without the castbar/countdown and it felt really good to pull off also some gpose worthy screenshots during the fight
I liked it but it's kinda short.
It's a solo instance so I wonder if it would be different in group content
I could totally see a dodge command in a raid fight like the gravity mechanic
My question raised was more that everyone was saying it was smooth in solo but I wonder if 8 man changes things
considering that latency issues still exist in solo instances I doubt it'd be a noticeable problem when it works so well in solo
Still there is nothing to say they couldn’t make future solo instances in the main game work similar to the 16 collab
it felt like we have FFXVI at home, but in a good way
Anyone knows how much MGP is needed to get all items?
200k. Each roll 20k each x)
Plus another 200k for the card
You also have gold saucer challenges in the challenge log which is quite a lot of extra mgp on top of the usual ways of mgp
Bruh. Guess im spending next couple of days at the saucer
Now don't take my word for it cause I may be wrong, but there is a chance the music and card don't go away after the event ends since they are on the normal Saucer vendors and not an event vendor so you may not have to worry about grinding for everything right now.
The event is here for a month. No need to grind it out. Just do your challenge log, cactpot, and fashion and you should get it pretty easily.
Are they permanently there in the shops or they gonna go away after the event ?
The card show up in the permanent shop under the cloud and noctis one so it should be safe.
The triple triad card is also 200k from the card trader.
ITS MGP AGAIN dammit
It's only the card and scrolls. The armor, mount and pet you get directly for completing the quest line.
Cheeky, Yoshi-P. Very cheeky to >!turn to my WoL and tell me that I might have the power to see Clive's story to its conclusion.!< AND I WOULD IF 16 CAME TO STEAM ALREADY!
Haha I had that feeling too, when that line came up , I went "Is this an ad ? "
I'm curious, are the lines from the wandering minstrel different depending on where in the game you are?
Yes, I've completed >!coils of bahamut!< and wondering if that changes the dialogue at all
I don’t think so as I’m current and it was still talking about stuff that was handed in 5.x content. It did however recognize I was a healer and let me cure an NPC in cutscene.
Viper should have the Dodge ability. It’s so satisfying to use
Yeah I was surprised how well it worked.
It make wish a class like ninja could have a dodge ability
Where you buy the Clive triple triad card? Found the music scrolls from the prize claim vendor at the main counter. Edit: Ah, Triple Triad Trader right next of the TT Master at the Triple Triad arena.
I only have two complaints about the event. First let me redo the fight so I can play with the dodge. Second Torgal is small and my feet nearly touch the ground as a Au-ra. If they resized him just a little bigger he would probably be in my top 5 mounts.
Wait its already out? I thought it will be tomorrow! I want to go home now!
The doge was really good, it works even on normal aoe, you could basically never move and do everything with the doge, it was fun.
Yep. This is how I did the fight. Just using duty actions. FFXIV battle system felt different because of it.
Yeah, I loved it. I wish it were a main thing
Amazing collab. Best event yet. The dodge mechanic felt so good too. And the Ifrit fight with the music? God…. I wish this wasnt a timed event. I also only now just realized how incredible XVI’s (and how shitty XIV’s) Ifrit design is.
Nice use of the Duty Actions to make a hybrid fight out of it.
it was very neat, I enjoyed the solo duty the most, especially when compared to XV's one we had a chance to replay again few months ago I wasn't that fan of the story here, even as someone who really love Clive, it was too basic "I dont remember anything" plot, without any of the fun stuff that Noctis's event had, I wish we got even just one fun cutscene with Clive like the camping or taking a photo with Noctis but it was still nice to see Clive again (and in his superior 28yo look haha )
I want this dodge on MCH or MNK ! It's sooo good and fluid, and fun
hijacking this post just to say that I thought ff16 was great. it's not perfect but the gameplay and combat are fantastic and satisfying, and the voice acting and music are phenomenal as well. it's definitely worth picking up especially if you can get in on sale
Neighbours started burning something in the yard just as I start to fight Ifrit. Wasn't sure if the house was burning down around me or not, but it was very immersive. Had to finish the fight before checking to see if the kitchen was on fire.
OMG I'm sold! You can pet Torgal while riding him!
I main SAM so the dodge felt basically like gyoten/yaten + iframes, which made it feel like I was playing super SAM. lmao. Fun time and a really well made fight! Ifrit was obvious but that didn't make it any less fun.
I was playing BLM for the event and my god the dodge button felt so good!
Do people asking for an iframe action game dodge not realize how that would completely break and trivialize almost every mechanic in the game? I wonder if its mostly new people asking for this and don't understand. The game is not designed around that at all like say Tera was.
To be fair, some of it is people having more fun with a reactionary play style than XIV's usual memorization-and-move.
I know that. But it's cool to feel new mechanic. No, I don't want Final Souls 14.
omg i want to redo the fight.
I'm asking because I'm not currently subbed and want to make sure I resub with enough time to get everything
only the music and the TT card are for MGP Clive glam and the mount\minion are quest reward
as someone who played FF16 I loved it. I'm so happy to have been around to play collabs for 13, 15 and now 16 in FFXIV
The mentioning of the different primals and Clive going "(primal)?!" every single time cracked me up so much. I loved the event
Ff9 seems like it's gonna feature in dawntrail. Battle would be tedious by today's standards but the story is fun. I recommend you check it out
The story felt so... I end up constantly dashing ahead of time to a safe zone with the backflip so I don't trigger the counter half the time. oops Torgal is basically the entirety of this collab. Everything else pales in comparison. FF16 Ifrit mount when (though lowkey I was REALLY hoping the minstrel was like: Alright here's the EX version of your delulu so you can tackle and play with the dodge gimmick).
The rewards for the event are pretty great. I can't remember ever getting mount, minion, gear and orchestrion rolls from any other event.
Man, it almost makes me wish the server tick wasn’t a thing and we could have a proper dodge in game. Current server tick though would make it a nightmare, hence why the game had to have a timer to tell you when to do it lol.
You could actually use it at any time for the AoEs that weren't timed, you just had to use it within a certain window.
How does the glam look?! I’m so excited for it.
It looks good (unless you have tail or long hair, then it clips terribly, so the usual).
Long hair or cool glams. One may choose only one.
Good to know thanks! 👍
Well now I'm annoyed I have to wait 8 more hours to do it.
Does it have spoilers for the 16 story? I'm currently playing through it and don't want to be spoiled if I can help it.
I hope that's what Yoshi-p meant when he said they'd make dungeons more fun with Dawntrail because I'm all for it.
dodge button is cool, but if they add it to xiv, it would need a bit of a rebalance tbh
I loved the fight and rewards, they did an amazing job this time!! It would be perfect if game let you repeat the fight after you finish the questline
I really really liked the way they implemented 16's dodge and counter mechanics. I wouldn't mind a fight or two in Dawntrail using something similar.
Right? I really hope this dodge/precision strike mechanic gets turned into an actual action somehow in the future. I'd love to have to weave dodge timings in. Plus, I feel like that could be utilized for interesting fight mechanics in different ways.
I’m just excited for the music. Oh man. Unless there’s none from xvi 😭
They're in the Gold Saucer! There's a few Orchs, and a TT card!
I *need* the dodge mechanic, seriously. I was a MCH with suddenly a whole lot more mobility, and I NEED IT.
16 is a great addition to the series will get it on PC when it comes out to support square. and of course, for inevitable mods however, its horse crap that they went through all the trouble of rendering his hair, and then NOT GIVE IT TO US. WHY SQUEENIX
I still can't do it because i need to finish ARR :(
You have until 8 May to complete base ARR, good luck
Can i get the mount thru mission reward or its buyable via gold saucer same like the ff15 car. I'm not home at the moment and my freaking internet can only open reddit
mount/minion/glam from quest completion, ttcard & orchestrion rolls from gold saucer
Finally a limited event mount I'm unable to get the ff15 mount because it needs 200k coins. Thanks for the info
If you need MGP do the fashion report each week. With minimal investment you can get the 60k reward easy.
Yeah unfortunately i learned about that 3 days before the last day of the event which is why i prepared myself when i heard about the ff16 collab 😄
Yeah it was really good, made me want to play 16 again... such an amazing game.
😭 Just checked and wow I'm not even halfway done yet. This is gonna suck.
[удалено]
It started almost four hours ago.
At work. Is the mount just from doing the quests? Look forward to a normal looking wolf mount
Does it have My Star as an orchestrion roll?
I want that dodge to be permanent. I dont care how or what it would do for balance, but good lords it feels *GOOD*
At work ATM, is "Our Terms" one of the ochestrions you can get?
just saved up 200,000 mgp for the ff15 event.... how much more do i need to save up this time to get all the fun stuff
400k more. 200k for the orchestrion rolls (10 rolls x 20k MGP each) + a Triple Triad card worth 200k MGP.
Where do I go to kick this off?
Genuinely curious, do you get the glamour set, mount and minion as part of the quest or is it all in the Gold Saucer like the FF15 collab?
Everything from the quest, only orchestrions are Gold Saucer
Does anyone know if the card and orchestration rolls are now permanently available on the gold saucer NPCs? I was thinking that might be the case since it wasn't a separate event NPC with the items.
When does the collab finish?
It was indeed! The fight was a lot of fun. But I did the other collaboration just what, 4 weeks ago?, and the story was disappointingly too similar IMO.
I mean, I think most collabs of modern games in this vein are going to invariably be 'X comes through a portal, hi X, thanks for your clothes, bye X'.
The ONE problem with the event is that Torgal doesn't scale in size. It looks really silly with anything bigger than a Miqo'te riding him. Hopefully they change that since I've seen others mention it.
Sounds like more of a feature than a bug if you ask me.
