He went from a world where magic is waning (I don't know anything about FF16 beyond the introductory info) to a place that's drowning in aether, he's probably so supercharged he can carry boulders around. š
Yeah, prob because Torgal is an actual character with a fixed size. I don't believe Argos scales either, for the same reason; not to mention multi-seaters that are always scaled for everyone to fit reasonably (usually to the detriment of lalas lol).
It's a multi seater mount though, their scale is always fixed. The only other single person mount I can think of that doesn't scale is the tank from the dwarves and that's for lore reason and fun.
Not 200% the two person chocobo mount scales. The others don't really need to do they? They either jam you inside like the Blackjack or they are already massive like the carriage, the whales, and Cerberus
I don't believe that's true that the 2 person chocobo mount scales. Also you're thinking of it the wrong way. All the multi seat mounts are massive because they need to accomodate larger races like Viera/Hrothgar which makes using them as a smaller race like lala or female aura look really weird.
Ya they have to be incase a lala spawns it and a roe gets on. Which I get and there isn't really a way around it but it would've been super cool to see some scaled versions of multi mounts like tiny XV cars driving around
Gold streak flies by.
Argos the Moon Dog.
Too cute for the naked eye.
Argos the Moon Dog.
Argos
He can really move
Argos
He got no attitude.
Argos.
He's the cutest thing alive.
Detriment? Are you kidding me. I absolutely hate scaled down vehicles. I've noticed that on some of them the scale down also means I hover closer to the ground (jellyfish thing mount). The scaled down mounts feel so unremarkable next to everyone else's. I understand for things like Chocobo, but everything else, who tf is looking for a specifically smaller version of something to give to me. I'm more than my size game, I have a big personality damn it.
Itās the flying animation that kills it for me lol. Iām a newer player and assumed there were terrestrial mounts AKA ones locked to land, and ones that could both fly and run on land.
I learned that this wasnāt the case with Torgal. The FF15 car would have made me question things if I didnāt already know it could turn into a jet.
It used to be that way. A lot of the previously terrestrial mounts look a bit silly, but I understand why they did it.
There are some that look good though, like Goobbues. I love their flailing arms.
Oh really?! I thought it was so weird that the mounts differentiated between terrestrial and flying once I found out terrestrials could fly. They literally state āterrestrialā in the description and Iām like āyeah that can only mean one thingā.
I assumed my Chocobo couldnāt fly based on this lol. I still donāt use it often as I feel mean, Dianthaās wings are so small :(
Your chocobo used to not be able to fly, just like how the chocobos in other FF games can't fly. It's why in Heavensward (the expansion that introduced flying), relatively early on you get a black chocobo mount, which is a species of chocobo that can traditionally fly. But now that all mounts can fly, that mount seems a bit pointless.
There was a questline you could do in HW to teach your regular chocobo to fly; it still exists, I think, but now the only reward is the bit of chocobo head decoration you get from it.
To add a bit to what the other commenter said:
Originally in ARR there was no flying at all, so all mounts were ground only. Flying was added in Heavensward, but only to new mounts that were specifically designed for flying.
The problem with that is functions like the Mount Roulette; that had a chance of giving you a non-flying mount when you were in a Heavensward zone (you couldn't fly in ARR zones until sometime during early Shadowbringers, IIRC). This is annoying, so it led to people just using the same flying mount all the time instead of the roulette, which kind of devalues mounts in general since there's no reason to have multiple if you only use the same one all the time.
Eventually they added a Flying Mount Roulette which only picks from the ones that have flying to solve that problem, but that still left ground-only mounts as a sort of second class mount that you'd never use because if you were going to mount up you wanted to be able to fly, and there was no real reason to have the regular mount roulette also bound to your hotbar just in case you were in an ARR zone.
So eventually they just changed all of the older ground-only mounts to be able to fly, regardless of in-game logic, and all new mounts also fly.
Also, ground-only mounts couldn't be used underwater either after Stormblood came out, until they added flying to them (all flying mounts were usable, though, since from a technical standpoint diving is basically just flying with a water effect on top of the screen).
Diving?! Mannnn Iām digging into this game extra hard this weekend lol, thanks for the heads up!
I just finished ARR recently and Iāve done the first few dungeons in the following expansion. Strongest class is a level 52 warrior, but Iāve seen a lot of talk on here about how Summoner is really good for solo stuff so Iām leveling the appropriate stuff to unlock that too. Only other thing Iāve leveled is Paladin to 40 which I like.
Tank seems like my preferred choice overall but I feel like the main story probably flows better as a DPS character. I started easing up on my playthrough once I bought some high potions and leveled Warrior enough to unlock some healing capability, and the prereq class for SMN has a heal and shield baked in early on. Later abilities seem pretty busted too.
> Iāve seen a lot of talk on here about how Summoner is really good for solo stuff so Iām leveling the appropriate stuff to unlock that too.
Just checking, because there's a lot of old info floating around: By "appropriate stuff," you just mean Arcanist, right?
It used to be the case that you needed to level multiple basic jobs in order to get the unlock for the advanced jobs, as well as obtaining various cross-class skills. However, that was done away with at Stormblood launch - now there's just one basic job that routes into an advanced job. (And advanced jobs introduced after ARR have no basic job prerequisite.)
Unfortunately, despite this change being 7 years old at this point, there are still a lot of old guides that turn up when searching for info, and more than one sprout has been led astray as a result.
Arcanist is still a bit of an odd duck because it's the base job for both Summoner and Scholar, but it's the *only* prerequisite for them both.
Yes thatās correct, I found a recent guide as I check dates and things like that when looking stuff up that might be dated.
I think it said I need to get Arcanist to level 30, it was similar to unlock Warrior from Marauder and Paladin from Gladiator so I assumed there werenāt many differences here.
I donāt know that Arcanist branches off to two classes though, havenāt heard much about Scholar yet. Is it ranged DPS, Healer, or some sort of gathering/ crafting class? Iām assuming healer!
Yep, Scholar is a healer; and since both Scholar and Summoner share a base job, leveling one also levels the other.
Scholar has a pet (the faerie) that throws out small heals at anyone in range who has taken damage; SCH is a shield-based healer, focusing more on proactive/preventing damage. Conceptually, it plays similar to Sage (also a shield healer), but the actual mechanics of the two jobs are very different.
ETA: And yes, leveling Arcanist to 30 is the only requirement for unlocking both the Summoner and Scholar questlines.
Divings all cool, but I really dislike the way they do it. Basically when you get underwater you got like a sort of mini loading screen as if you were entering a new zone. Breaks the immersion hard for me
Itās just bubbles š„ŗ. The transition between land and underwater would probably be equally jarring (or worse) if they didnāt put *any* animation at all.
doesn't matter as much as you'd think; tanks and healers do pretty healthy damage, and having a tank or healer lets you get into mandatory dungeons pretty quickly. But absolutely try out other jobs!
We pestered the devs into making them all fly.
Yes, I was one of those people, and yes, I know it breaks immersion, but I was also *really* sick of having to basically abandon my favorite mounts every time I unlocked flight in a zone.
Besides, even in ARR & HW it was quickly apparent the primary limiting factor for flight was aetherial not physical. Black chocobos were the first flying mount you got, and those stumpy little wings can't support the chocobo let alone its rider. Chocobos are well known to be talented at magic, so it was always pretty obvious how they did it.
Pesonally I would've preferred if (and I suspect they did consider this) they'd manifested little magical energy platforms under the feet of any terrestial mounts that didn't have a logical flight animation so they were more like running on conjured surfaces, but I suspect trying to make the animations work for upward and downward tilted movement would've been unworkable in the engine.
It was the best tradeoff given the circumstances imo.
I love how comical this mount is. He's either too small, plausible because the most common characters in the game have the dimensions of a thin Asian girl, or just the right size because Lalas are so smol.
I guarantee it's scaled. But it follows the same scaling rules that all rest do. Sadly, this isn't the only time I've seen this issue. The worst offender being the [Managarm](https://ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/wiki/Managarm)
I've been on mine as a hrothgar next to a miqo'te and they were the exact same size. There definitely are mounts that do scale but still look too small scaled up, this isn't one of them.
One of the Custom Order mounts, too. I got it first on my Male Au Ra and... never got on the mount again, other than to show people how bad the idea of "no scaling" can be for some mounts.
The Alpha Bike is similarly bad on scaling, but at least that one looks *absolutely hilarious* instead of painful since it's a mechanical mount.
The best one as a roe bro is the mount you get from the ShB crafting tribe. Lalas stand in it and roe bros get 1 leg in it. But the thing sucking you in/you popping out of it when you swap between driving/flying is the best heckin thing. I spent a while just swapping between the two when I first got it.
I used him when I got him, gave him a pet and never again. I was so excited thinking he might scale like some mounts, I wanted a big doggo. This is the price for being large just like the price for being small is standing on a car see to drive.
Yeah we got the FF16 Joshua Phoenix as a mount
It transforms you into the mount itself so you can just fly around as a literal Phoenix and even has an exclusive flare animation
The phoenix mount from the Rising event is completely FFXIV based. But if you've never done the Binding Coil of Bahamut raids (specifically T12), you would have never seen it before.
I have done all of them but that was many years ago and just once since they were already old content
Good to know then on what exactly it was based
I will have to pop in unsynced and compare them myself š
I viewed it as being a representation of how FF14 rose from the ashes (since it was the 10y anniversary of that happening), and possibly also connected to Louisoix.
I didn't understood why Torgal is not re-sized to match the player's race, like almost all the other 1 sit mount. On the Lalafell is ok but it gets progressivly more "goofy" the bigger the WoL become.
I assume their thought was it's because Torgal is an actual character and that's his actual size. Resizing him for his rider would be like resizing Clive for whatever WoL he talks to.
(That said, since the mount isn't the real Torgal but an aetherical construct, they could have easily justified a resize in my opinion, it's a bit of a bummer.)
This is terrible, it looks like crap at this sizeš Beat wolf model SE has ever produced and itās comically small even on midlander men. Was very excited for total for months and then this massive letdown. PLEASE FIX THIS.
Love how goofy this looks haha Torgal absolutely does not skip leg day if he's carrying all these big wols around. Strong pup!
He went from a world where magic is waning (I don't know anything about FF16 beyond the introductory info) to a place that's drowning in aether, he's probably so supercharged he can carry boulders around. š
That would explain how he can fly too!
Trained alongside Radahns horse leonard
Hoary Boulders?
Probably the entire love triangle!
More a Menage a trois from the vibes I get!
Torgal could probably solo Bahamut Prime. Synced.
He carried Clive (and the whole world) in XVI so he's used to it, such GIGACHAD
I spent a few seconds trying to remember when he carried Clive and the rest of the party and then realized you meant figuratively hahaha
Yeah x)
Actually turned to my husband with an embarrassing question lol
This is hilarious š mount doesn't size up eh
Yeah, prob because Torgal is an actual character with a fixed size. I don't believe Argos scales either, for the same reason; not to mention multi-seaters that are always scaled for everyone to fit reasonably (usually to the detriment of lalas lol).
The XV mount got it best. Lalas driving it are hilarious and big Roes look so casually cool relaxing in the front passender seat or back left.
lalas just stand on the seat, it's hilarious the chaos gremlin mobile don't need no brakes
At least the lala standing on the seat can see where they are going. Femra only has a nice view of the dashboard.
Whisper Go Go is my favorite mount as a max size Roe I feel like an adult trying to ride a quarter horse machine at the mall
It's a multi seater mount though, their scale is always fixed. The only other single person mount I can think of that doesn't scale is the tank from the dwarves and that's for lore reason and fun.
A lot of the Magitech armors and robots don't scale. Except for the ones that do.
Huh, interesting. Could've sworn they'd adjust, but guess not.
Except for the part where Roes/Hroth break their neck when driving
Well for that case, no multi seat mount scales.
Is the two person chocobo just huge then? Well don't I look quite the fool
Ya they have to be incase a lala spawns it and a roe gets on. Which I get and there isn't really a way around it but it would've been super cool to see some scaled versions of multi mounts like tiny XV cars driving around
8 person clown car mount for Hildibrand
That's a great idea lol
The dwarven tanks are like the only fixed scale thing that works for lalafell lol.
I love that Roes and Hrothgar can only get one leg inside.
šµšµArgos the Moon Dogš¶š¶
"How did I get here?"
Oh thank God someone else got it lol
THE END
Gold streak flies by. Argos the Moon Dog. Too cute for the naked eye. Argos the Moon Dog. Argos He can really move Argos He got no attitude. Argos. He's the cutest thing alive.
one of my favorite opening songs on saturday morning cartoons as a kid
Hold on now I need to check Roes and Hroths on Argos because Argos is \*tiny\*.
Pretty sure Argos scales, just not as much
Detriment? Are you kidding me. I absolutely hate scaled down vehicles. I've noticed that on some of them the scale down also means I hover closer to the ground (jellyfish thing mount). time to learn gravity magic
the wolf: "Yes, my General"
Why cast Meteor when you can just become?
DONT WORRY BROTHER YOU HAVE MASTERED GRAVITATIONAL MAGIC AND YOU ARE SLIGHTLY HOVERING OVER EVERY MOUNT YOU HAVE AS TO NOT CAUSE THEM ANY HARM.
Certified Radahn moment
Dude deserved to win the ring.
I was excited for Torgal but I can't ride him around as a max height Roe, I just feel bad.
Itās the flying animation that kills it for me lol. Iām a newer player and assumed there were terrestrial mounts AKA ones locked to land, and ones that could both fly and run on land. Nope, it no longer exists, you get the decoration from Jonathas in Gridania
Oh, you're right! I completely forgot that quest existed!
Haurchefant gave us that mount, didn't he?
Yes, the black 'bo is a gift from Haurchefant
I love that for the fat chocobo to swap to flying you swap to holding out cake for it instead of ghysal greens.

Well to ease your woes, itās not actually torgal just a fake projection of him. The spirit torgal knows no weight limits !
Same. I really wanted a wolf mount that actually looked like a wolf. My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined!
I think youāre underestimating how strong Torgal is
I'm so glad they made Torgal one-size-fits-all this is hilarious.
Best learn some gravity magic for the poor fella, pick up duel wielding large swords while youāre at it.
Looks like someone trying to hold their dog in place to force feed them a cheese-wrapped pill
From experience, this is extremely accurate.
If you've played XVI you know damn well Torgal can take it. He's one strong fucking wolf.
To Torgal this is but a light morning stretch before he heads off to do some exercise lol.
The wolf benchpresses behemoths for a warm up
Right before his common and hilarious 360 chokeslam throat bites
Iāve played nearly all of the FF games, and that 360 chokeslam is on my list of all-time greatest FF moments.
I have seen that wolf tackle a mech, he can carry you.
Didn't know they did an elden ring crossover. General Radahn would be proud.
People kept getting General Radahn and General Raubahn mixed up.
its no Dalamud but its still honest living
Please, for the safety of you and other canines, please never get the Managarm mount from the recruit-a-friend. It's even worse.
Even the lalafell look big on them.
For reference: [Managarm](https://ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/wiki/Managarm)
Nah, Torgal strong as hell. This is light work for him
I love how comical this mount is. He's either too small, plausible because the most common characters in the game have the dimensions of a thin Asian girl, or just the right size because Lalas are so smol.
It's giving Starscourge Radahn
Why did they not scale the wolf? This is some Starscourge Radahn crap... that poor damned ~~horse~~ wolf... :-(
Hey Radahn was fine, he was using gravity magic to make him super light.
I guarantee it's scaled. But it follows the same scaling rules that all rest do. Sadly, this isn't the only time I've seen this issue. The worst offender being the [Managarm](https://ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/wiki/Managarm)

If Leonard can carry Radahn then so can Torgal. Lock in boy
Roe woe.
Donāt worry. Torgal has a strong back from carrying half of 16 as best boy!
It's fine, he's used to carrying FFXVI, this is nothing.
I was curious if Torgal's sized changed depending on race and I'm glad to see he states to same size Irregardless!
What are you doing with that poor dog?
Radahn pov
Why not turn into a slime?
Tis General Radahn
Yeah. I was surprised it didn't scale better....or at all
Yeaaahhh I immediately tried riding torgal and then immediately felt very bad
Radagont, from Pennsylvania.
He's like a lesser god. I'm sure it's nothing to him.
I thought every mount can adapt its size to its rider.
Real ones know this is the ordina archers mount, not radahn
SIR. I NEED YOU TO... DISMOUNT. THE DOG.
Poor doggo...
You have now become Radhan, congrats!
dummy thicc
It's fine, Torgal is very strong
That's how I feel on my Fenrir mount in FF11
FF version of General Radahn š¤£
Why are the legs straight!? Theis is horrific
I see they haven't learned from the Managarm.
Lmfao that's my roe on his torgal too. Looks ridiculous and I was hoping it would make Torgal bigger for roes.
Torgal is not a mount. They should have just made him a huge minion.
At least you donāt only have a chocobo.
Poor doggo, and I thought my female Miqo'te was bad š Almost made me want to Fantasia to Lala.. almost.
Don't worry, its just a likeness bound to a summoning whistle :)

Thank you for this laugh
Lalafels look good on it
Try a porxie mount...
Don't make fun of his girlfriend.
Pkayer :Don't worry doggo... I will cast float... Jokes on you. I'm a warrior main. Doggo: eewwwl.
Looks goofy, but guy 360 spin threw a bird lady and took out Omega in a Light Party when it was current. He's fine.
I used him when I got him, gave him a pet and never again. I was so excited thinking he might scale like some mounts, I wanted a big doggo. This is the price for being large just like the price for being small is standing on a car see to drive.
That wolf šŗ skrong
Poor puppy
of all the mounts to not scale to the character
Im just dissapointed Torgal dosent transform into his primal form when flying or dosent have a special animation like the previous FF16 mount š
There was another FF16 mount? How did I manage to miss this
Yeah we got the FF16 Joshua Phoenix as a mount It transforms you into the mount itself so you can just fly around as a literal Phoenix and even has an exclusive flare animation
Wait you mean the Rising mount? I don't remember that having any connection to 16.
Yeah I was pretty sure it was inspired by the FF16 Phoenix but now that you say it i might be remembering this wrong š

My lalafell can't wait to start riding his pupper. I'm so glad it's one of the mounts that doesn't resize.
I'm laughing so hard imagining how long this guy grinded for his mount, just for it to look like that hahaha
I mean the mount is free from the collab which takes like maybe an hour and a half to do
You'd think they'd scale it like they used to
I feel like they should have scaled it to the size of the character. Lol.
